Elvin CANONIZADO Was Arrested

A male has been arrested after sexually assaulting a female and threatening her and another male with a firearm in Oshawa.

On Friday, April 19, 2024, at approximately 2:05 p.m., members of Central East Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Simcoe Street South and Athol Street. The suspect approached the victim, while she was alone on the street corner, and touched her inappropriately before walking away. The victim told her partner, and both parties confronted the suspect. The suspect made threats with a firearm toward the male and female before leaving the area.

Officers searched the area and located the suspect a short distance away. Police took the suspect into custody without incident. A search of the suspect located a concealed BB firearm that resembled a revolver.

The victims did not sustain any physical injuries.

Elvin CANONIZADO, age 28 from Oshawa is charged with: Sexual Assault, Uttering Threats x2, Possess Weapon for Committing Offence, Carry Concealed Weapon, and Use of Imitation Firearm During Commission of an Offence.

Gregory BRADFORD Was Arrested

(SMITHS FALLS, ON) – A Smiths Falls resident faces charges after incidents including threats and vandalism.

The Smiths Falls Police Service requested assistance April 19, 2024, from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) after an individual had made threats against two members of the police service and committed multiple acts of vandalism in the form of graffiti.

Members of the OPP East Region Community Street Crime Unit and Lanark OPP Crime Unit began an investigation which resulted in an arrest warrant being issued. On April 20, 2024, officers, assisted by members of the OPP ROPE (Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement) Squad made an arrest in Ottawa.

 Gregory BRADFORD, age 28, has been charged with:

  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – two counts
  • Criminal harassment
  • Intimidation of a justice system participant
  • Mischief under $5000 – four counts

The accused remains in custody. The bail hearing is scheduled to continue before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on April 23, 2024.

Tom GECSE Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – One individual has been charged following an investigation into a neighbour dispute in Turkey Point.

At approximately 7:25 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a neighbour dispute at an address on Turkey Point Road in Turkey Point, Norfolk County.

It was determined that two individuals had a dispute on the property, resulting in the victim being threatened and physically assaulted. Minor injuries were reported.

As a result, one individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 63-year-old Tom GECSE of Norfolk County:

  • Assault,
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm.

The accused was detained in custody to appear at a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe.

Repeat Offender Arrested Again After Death Threats

(THESSALON, ON) – One person was arrested and charged after police were called to a neighbour dispute on Federation Street in Thessalon.

On April 11, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the residential property. The complainant reported a neighbour attended their property and threatened to kill them with a tire iron in hand. Police also later learned that the person was on probation with release conditions. 

James HEMBRUFF, 38-years-old, of Thessalon was arrested and charged with:

  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie on April 12, 2024.

Tyrone TANGIE Was Arrested

(CHAPLEAU, ON) – One person is facing a criminal charge after sending threatening messages over social media. On April 9, 2024, shortly before 11:00 p.m., the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a threats occurrence on Martel Road in Chapleau.

As a result of the investigation, Tyrone TANGIE, 24 years-of-age, of Brunswick House First Nation was arrested and charged with one count of Uttering Threats to cause bodily harm.        

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 13, 2024 in Chapleau.

Rene LAPIERRE – Threats & Firearms Charges

(BRANT, ON) – At approximately 7:05a.m., on March 31, 2024, members of the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to investigate a mischief complaint at a residence on Flagg Avenue in Paris.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that the complainant had been receiving threatening messages from a male individual. Additionally, it was found that the complainant’s vehicle had been damaged by the same individual using a BB gun.

As a result of the investigation, 39-year-old Rene LAPIERRE, from Paris has been charged with the following offences.

–      Utter Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm

–      Mischief Under $5000

–      Careless Use of a Firearm

LAPIERRE was taken into custody without issues and held for a bail hearing.

Wasaga Beach Armed Robbery – Derek PUSHIE & Michael CAIN

(WASAGA BEACH, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged two individuals in relation to an assault with a weapon incident in the Town of Wasaga Beach.

On March 20, 2024, at approximately 1:35 p.m., members of the Huronia West Detachment and Huronia West Crime Unit responding to a report of a shooting on Mosley Street. The victim suffered moderate injuries, which were treated on scene by the EMS.

Both the accused were still on the premises when police arrived and were arrested without incident. During the investigation, police seized 0.8 grams of fentanyl.

On March 21, 2024, a search warrant was executed at the residence of the first accused. The following items were seized:

  • Glock air pistol
  • Beretta air pistol
  • Air pistol

Derek PUSHIE, 48-year-old of Wasaga Beach, was charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Firearm – use while committing offence
  • Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Robbery with weapon
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin)

Michael CAIN, 40-year-old of Wasaga Beach, was charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Firearm – use while committing offence
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Break, enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Robbery with weapon
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm

Both the accused’s appeared in Bail Court on March 21, 2024. The accused’s will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie at a future date.

Spouse Assaulted With Weapon

(CHAPLEAU, ON) – A Chapleau resident is facing criminal charges as a result of a sexual assault investigation. On March 23, 2024, shortly after 4:00 p.m., the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic disturbance on Pine Park Road in Chapleau.

As a result of the investigation, a 52-year-old person from Chapleau was arrested and charged with:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Assault with a Weapon – Spousal
  • Assault – Spousal
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death – Spousal

The accused was held for a bail hearing, and remanded into custody. Due to the domestic nature of the incident, the name of the accused will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.

Armed Robbery – NICHOLSON & TORRANCE Arrested

(LAIRD, ON) – On March 9, 2024, shortly before 7:00 p.m., the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an unwanted person at a residence on Neebish Road in Laird Township. Investigation revealed an individual entered the victim’s property and attempted to steal a vehicle, then returned a short time later with a second individual, and left with items belonging to the victim. The accused individuals fled the scene prior to police arrival.  

On March 13, 2024, police completed their investigation and arrested both accused individuals. As a result, Leslie NICHOLSON, 34 years-of-age, of Garden River First Nation was charged with:

  • Robbery with Weapon
  • Using Firearm while Committing Offence
  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Uttering Threats – Injure Animal
  • Theft Over $5,000
  • Mischief Under $5,000

The accused was held for a bail hearing, and subsequently released by the Ontario Court of Justice.

Lucas TORRANCE, 36 years-of-age, of Sault Ste. Marie was charged with:

  • Robbery with Weapon
  • Theft Over $5,000

The accused remains in custody, following a bail hearing. 

Sault Ste. Marie OPP officers were assisted by Batchewana First Nation Police, Anishinabek Police Service, East Algoma OPP, North East Region Canine Unit, and Sault Ste. Marie Crime Unit.

Assault With Weapon & Threats – Steven DENIS

(WEST NIPISSINGON) – Police arrested and charged one person after a report of a road rage incident.

On March 14, 2024, shortly before 12:30 p.m., Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a weapon complaint on Dutrisac Road, West Nipissing.

It was reported that two vehicles had been involved in a road rage incident on Highway 17 and pulled onto a side road to confront each other. One driver brandished a knife, while uttering a threat to harm the other driver.

As a result of the investigation, Steven DENIS, 32-years-old, from North Bay, was arrested and charged with, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on April 4, 2024.

Repeat Offender Pervert Alert – Garry FISHER Arrested For Child Pornography,

A male has been arrested for sexual assault and breaching his release order.

On Monday, January 1, 2024, the accused began to contact the victim while on a no contact order, and attempted to intimidate her into dropping the charges.  The victim came forward to police, who commenced a secondary investigation, after she detailed a sexual assault by the suspect. 

On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, members of the East Division Criminal Investigations Branch, with assistance from members of the Internet and Child Exploitation Unit and E-Crimes Unit attended a residential address in Lansdowne to execute a search warrant.  The suspect was located inside the residence and taken into custody without incident. 

Numerous electronics were located and seized.

Investigators have concerns there may be more victims and are releasing a photo of the accused (attached).

Garry FISHER, age 60 from Lansdowne is charged with 23 offences including: Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference with Person Under 16, Luring a Person Under 16, Possession of Child Pornography, Access Child Pornography, Criminal Harassment, Make Indecent Telecommunications, Obstruct Justice, Uttering Threats x6, and Fail to Comply with Release Order x6.

He was held for a bail hearing.

David KOOSTACHIN – Aggravated Assault, Armed Robbery, Forcible Confinement

(MOOSONEE, ON) – An arrest has been made in an investigation in Moosonee, with serious criminal charges.

On February 27, 2024, shortly before 8:30 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the local health clinic in Moosonee, regarding a victim of an assault that come in for medical attention.

Police investigated and determined that the victim, who had suffered a broken jaw, had been assaulted at a residence on Ferguson Road on the evening of February 25. Further, the victim was then prevented from leaving the residence, until February 27 when the victim sought medical attention.

On February 29, shortly before 2:00 p.m., the OPP arrested David KOOSTACHIN, 39 years of age of Moosonee, who was charged with the following:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Forcible confinement
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Armed robbery

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 11, 2024.

On February 29, at approximately 6:00 p.m., a search warrant was executed at a residence on Ferguson Road, and seized evidence relevant to the investigation, including three knives, a 2 by 4 wooden plank, and a snowmobile helmet.

More Domestic Violence

(HURON EAST, ON) – On February 20th, 2024, members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a matter involving intimate partners in the Municipality of Huron East.

As a result of the investigation, OPP learned that the involved suspect had allegedly committed several criminal acts against their partner in 2020.

A 21-year-old individual from Waterloo has been charged under the Criminal Code with the following offences:

–      Assault – Spousal,

–      Assault Causing Bodily Harm – (two counts),

–      Uttering Threats to Cause Bodily Harm or Death – Spousal.

The accused was arrested, processed, and later released from custody with a court date scheduled for the Goderich Ontario Court of Justice.

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – On February 21st, 2024, members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a matter involving intimate partners in the Municipality of Central Huron.

A 46-year-old individual from Central Huron has been charged under the Criminal Code with the following offence:

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – On February 22nd, 2024, members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a matter involving intimate partners in the Municipality of Central Huron.

Surge In Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assaults

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) On January 1, 2024, Wellington County OPP entered into an Intimate Partner Violence (I.P.V.) investigation in the Township of Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old male from Centre Wellington, has been charged with Spousal Assault contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, at a later date.

On January 2, 2024, Wellington County OPP entered into an I.P.V. investigation in the Town of Minto. As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old male from South Bruce, has been charged with Spousal Assault with a Weapon, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held for bail.

On January 4, 2024, Wellington County OPP entered into an I.P.V. investigation in the Township of Guelph/Eramosa. As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old male from Dorchester, was charged with Failure to Comply with Release Order contrary to the criminal code. The accused was held for bail.

On January 12, 2024, Wellington County OPP entered into an I.P.V. investigation in the Township of Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old male from Brampton, has been charged with Spousal Assault and Forcible Confinement, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, at a later date.

On January 13, 2024, Wellington County OPP entered into an I.P.V. investigation in the Township of Wellington North. As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old male from Brampton, has been charged with 3 counts of Assault Caused Bodily Harm, Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Uttering Threats to Damage or Injure an Animal, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held for bail.

On January 17, 2024, Wellington County OPP entered into an I.P.V. investigation in the Township of Wellington North. As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old male from Wellington North, has been charged with Spousal Assault with a Weapon, Spousal Assault, Disobey Court Order, and Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held for bail.

On January 18, 2024, Wellington County OPP entered into an IPV investigation in the town of Erin. As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old male from Mississauga has been charged with Assault Caused Bodily Harm, 3 counts of Spousal Assault, Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke or Suffocate or Strangle Another Person, and Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm – Spousal, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held for bail.

On January 20, 2024, Wellington County OPP entered into an I.P.V. investigation in the Town of Minto. As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old male from Minto, has been charged with Spousal Assault contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, at a later date.

On January 20, 2024, Wellington County OPP entered into an I.P.V. investigation in the Township of Guelph/Eramosa. As a result of the investigation, a 60-year-old male from Guelph/Eramosa has been charged with Spousal Assault Causing Bodily Harm contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held for bail.

On January 25, 2024, Wellington County OPP entered in to an I.P.V. investigation in the Township of Mapleton. As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old female from Mapleton has been charged with Spousal Assault contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of justice – Guelph, at a later date.

On January 26, 2024, Wellington County OPP entered in to an I.P.V. investigation in the Township of Wellington North. As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old male from Wellington North has been charged with Failing to Comply with Undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held for bail.

On January 26, 2024, Wellington County OPP entered into an I.P.V. investigation in the Township of Centre Wellington. As a result of the investigation, a 54-year-old male from Caledon East has been charged with three counts of Failing to Comply with Undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held for bail.

(CHAPLEAU, ON) – One person is facing criminal charges after causing a disturbance at a residence in Chapleau. On February 22, 2024, shortly before 3:00 p.m., the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a threats occurrence on Pine Street.

As a result of the investigation, Darryl HIGHAM, 36 years-of-age, of Cloyne, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Mischief       

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 16, 2024 in Chapleau.
