Melquis RIVERA – Aggravated Assault

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Central Criminal Investigation Section has charged a man in relation to an assault with a weapon at a residence in the 200 block of Nepean Street yesterday morning that left a man in critical condition.

Police were called to the building at approximately 4:35am for reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival one man was located with serious injuries, deemed to be from an assault. He was subsequently transported to hospital by paramedics, where he remains.

A short time later, the suspect was arrested nearby.

Melquis RIVERA, 60-years-old, of Ottawa, has been charged with the following:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault with a weapon

He appeared in court yesterday afternoon.

Ottawa Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to contact the Central Criminal Investigation Section at 613-236-1222, extension 5166.

Man Wanted For Aggravated Assault

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance locating a man wanted in an Aggravated Assault investigation.

On Monday, December 30, 2024, at approximately 7:43 p.m., police responded to a call for a Robbery in the Avenue Road and Deloraine Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

  • the suspect entered an LCBO store
  • he proceeded to take bottles of alcohol and put them into a box 
  • loss prevention staff members approached the suspect
  • the suspect threw a bottle which struck a loss prevention staff member before fleeing on foot
  • the victim was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

Adam Canali, 34, of Toronto, is wanted for:

  1. Robbery
  2. two counts of Assault with a Weapon
  3. Aggravated Assault
  4. Have Face Masked/Disguised
  5. two counts of Uttering Threats/Death of Bodily Harm
  6. two counts of Breach of Probation

He is described as 6’0 tall and having buzzed hair with a receding hairline. He has tattoos on his neck and both arms and hands. 

He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, black Roots sweatpants, black shoes, and a black balaclava.

Investigators area asking anyone that witnessed the incident to contact police.

Repeat Offender Arrested For Aggravated Assault

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating weapon-related incidents.

On December 17, 2024, shortly after 6:30 a.m., officers responded to a report a shooting from a vehicle towards a residence on Jamestown Court in the Town of Caledon. No injuries were sustained as a result of the incident. The shooting remains an ongoing investigation.

During the investigation, information was received about a separate incident the day prior, which occurred in Brampton. As a result, Tejinder KAHLON, 36, of Brampton, was arrested on December 20, 2024, and charged with:

• Aggravated assault

• Pointing a firearm

• Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm

• Forcible confinement

• Fail to comply with release order

The accused was held for a Bail Hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville.

Benjamin WHALEN – Aggravated Assault

(ESSEX, ON) – The Essex detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with aggravated assault after altercation.

On November 23, 2024, at 1:21 a.m., members of the Essex OPP, were dispatched to a residence in the community of McGregor in the Town of Essex for a report of an assault.

As a result of the investigation, Benjamin WHALEN, a 35-year-old from Essex, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

·        Aggravated Assault

The accused was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor.

The victim was treated at a local hospital for their injuries.

Listowel Assault – Hayden JOHNSON Arrested

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged following an investigation into an aggravated assault with an edged weapon that occurred in the Municipality of North Perth.

Hayden JOHNSON, 21, of Listowel, has been charged with:

–      Aggravated Assault

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

On August 10, 2024, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began investigating an assault that took place in Listowel between 3:15 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street West and Mitchell Road South.

One person was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital.

Police are still seeking any witnesses and/or dash-cam video footage of the incident. Stabbing – 4 Arrested, ADAMS, MCGIVERN, SHAFFER, CHARLEBOIS

(PEMBROKE, ON) – The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment has charged four people after an assault in downtown Pembroke.

Officers were called to Pembroke Street West around 9:00 p.m. on March 12, 2024, where they located a 25-year-old male with a stab wound and other minor injuries. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment of the non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation, four people have been arrested.

Richard ADAMS, age 38 of Laurentian Valley Township has been charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Forcible confinement
  • Failure to comply with a prohibition order

Meryl MCGIVERN, age 37 of Pembroke has been charged with:

  • Assault
  • Forcible confinement
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

Jaclyn SHAFFER, age 43 of Killaloe has been charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle

Jade CHARLEBOIS, age 25 of Laurentian Valley Township has been charged with assault with a weapon.

All four accused have been released and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 15, 2024.

One Airlifted After Aggravated Assault – David ZAMIDA Arrested

(TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged one individual with aggravated assault in the Town of Wasaga Beach.

On February 25, 2024, members of the Huronia West Detachment responded to a report of an unconscious individual on Homewood Ave. The victim was in critical condition and was airlifted to a trauma center in Toronto.

On March 6, 2024, a search warrant was executed on the accused’s residence by the Huronia West Crime Unit, Huronia West Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), and the Emergency Response Team (ERT).

As a result of the investigation, the following items were seized:

  • A 9mm Kal Tec foldable rifle with three 30 round capacity magazines
  • A .22 calibre rifle
  • Two .22 calibre folding rifles
  • A black pellet gun
  • Shot gun ammo
  • Brass knuckles
  • A quantity of cocaine

David ZAMIDA, 46-year-old of Wasaga Beach, was charged with the following:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – Three Counts
  • Careless storage of Firearm
  • Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition – Two Counts
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine

The accused was held for a bail and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 8, 2024.

David KOOSTACHIN – Aggravated Assault, Armed Robbery, Forcible Confinement

(MOOSONEE, ON) – An arrest has been made in an investigation in Moosonee, with serious criminal charges.

On February 27, 2024, shortly before 8:30 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the local health clinic in Moosonee, regarding a victim of an assault that come in for medical attention.

Police investigated and determined that the victim, who had suffered a broken jaw, had been assaulted at a residence on Ferguson Road on the evening of February 25. Further, the victim was then prevented from leaving the residence, until February 27 when the victim sought medical attention.

On February 29, shortly before 2:00 p.m., the OPP arrested David KOOSTACHIN, 39 years of age of Moosonee, who was charged with the following:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Forcible confinement
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Armed robbery

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 11, 2024.

On February 29, at approximately 6:00 p.m., a search warrant was executed at a residence on Ferguson Road, and seized evidence relevant to the investigation, including three knives, a 2 by 4 wooden plank, and a snowmobile helmet.

Violent Robbery – Steven NORMAN & Michael GUNN Arrested

(TOWNSHIP OF MINDEN HILLS, ON) The Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two individuals in relation to an assault and robbery that occurred earlier this month.

On February 9, 2024, shortly after 4:30 a.m., members of the Haliburton Highlands Detachment responded to an assault and robbery with a weapon on Parkside Street in Minden. The victim was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A thorough investigation was conducted by the Haliburton Highlands OPP Crime Unit. 

As a result of the investigation, Steven NORMAN, 44-year-old of Minden Hills, has been charged with:

·        Aggravated assault

·        Robbery using firearm

·        Possession of a weapon

·        Possession of a weapon while prohibited

Michael GUNN, 28-year-old of Minden Hills, has been charged with:

·        Aggravated assault

·        Robbery using firearm

·        Possession of a weapon

·        Fail to comply release order

·        Possession of a firearm while prohibited

Both were held for a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.
