26 Year Old From Central Huron Arrested – Details Released

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Central Huron resident with a criminal driving offence following a traffic stop on December 22, 2024, in the Municipality of Central Huron. 

Just after 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2024, Huron County OPP officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle travelling on Huron Road in Central Huron, near Goderich. Police spoke to the driver and determined that the driver’s ability to operate the motor vehicle was impaired.

The driver was arrested for impaired operation and transported to the Sebringville OPP detachment where they completed a series of tests before an OPP Drug Recognition Expert (DRE)

Connor RANKIN, 26 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused was additionally charged with an offence under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and the Cannabis Control Act (CCA).

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on January 20, 2025.

43 Year Old From London Arrested In Central Huron

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a London resident with an Impaired driving offence following a traffic stop in a “Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere” (R.I.D.E.) check on December 22, 2024, in the Municipality of Central Huron. 

Just before 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2024, Huron County OPP officers stopped a vehicle on Stone School Line in Central Huron.

The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired operation and transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton where they provided breath samples before a qualified Intoxilyzer Breath Technician. Breath samples were provided to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.

Kevin NAGLE, 43 years of age from London has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80,

–      Dangerous Operation.

The accused was additionally charged with offences found in the Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA), and the Tobacco Tax Act (TTA).

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on January 13, 2025.

Hit & Run – Justin MATHERS Arrested, Cocaine A Factor

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) -Driver facing impaired charge as a result of a collision.

On December 22, 2024, at 10:35 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were dispatched to Amiens Road in Middlesex Centre for the report of a collision involving two vehicles.

One involved vehicle fled the area prior to police arrival, however, was located not too far from the scene at which time a traffic stop was initiated.

The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the Middlesex County OPP detachment.

As a result, Justin MATHERS, a 34-year-old of Strathroy, has been charged under the Criminal Code, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with:

·      Operation while impaired – drugs

·      Dangerous operation

·      Failure to stop after accident

·      Poss of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine

·      Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice February 7, 2025, to speak to the charges.

The Middlesex OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority immediately.

BENNINGER & AL-MASHNI Arrested

(BROCKTON, ON) – On December 23, 2024, at approximately 8:55 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a motor vehicle collision along Bruce Road 4, Municipality of Brockton.

On arrival, officers located a single vehicle in the ditch. The investigating officer determined that the occupants were in contravention of release conditions. Two individuals were taken into custody without issue. Police seized a quantity of suspected cocaine, a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW), and ammunition.

Michael BENNINGER, 36-years-old, of Barrie was charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm / ammunition contrary to prohibition order (x4), CC 117.01(1)
  • Failure to comply with undertaking, CC 145(4)(a)
  • Carry concealed prohibited device or ammunition, CC 90
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon, CC 91(2)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance, CDSA 4(1)
  • Careless driving, HTA 130(1)
  • Driving while under suspension, HTA 53(1)

The accused was held for a bail hearing on December 24, 2024 and subsequently remanded into custody.

Zaid AL-MASHNI, 27-years-old, of Barrie was charged with:

  • Failure to comply with undertaking, CC 145(4)(a)

The accused is set to appear at the Walkerton Court of Justice on January 22, 2024.

2 More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – Two 9-1-1 calls from concerned citizens within three hours, led officers to two separate impaired driving arrests in Kapuskasing.

On December 21, 2024, at approximately 12:00 a.m., The James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of a suspected impaired driver on Government Road West in Kapuskasing. Officers located the subject vehicle and driver, and determined the driver had consumed alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing. 

As a result, Suzanne ARSENAULT, 55 years of age, of Kapuskasing, has been charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on February 24, 2025, in Kapuskasing.

Then, at approximately 3:00 a.m., officer responded to another call of a suspected impaired driver on Maple Drive in Kapuskasing. Officers located the subject vehicle and driver, and determined the driver had consumed alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.

As a result, Samuel MOREAU, 21 years of age, of Kapuskasing, has been charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on January 20, 2025, in Kapuskasing.

In addition, the two accused individuals received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicles were impounded for seven days.

39 Year Old Arrested At RIDE

(SELWYN TOWNSHIP, ON) – Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving after stopping a vehicle that appeared to be avoiding a RIDE check.

On Monday December 23, 2024, just after 10:00pm, Peterborough County OPP officers were conducting R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) on Woodland Drive in Selwyn Township. Officers observed an approaching vehicle slow and then turn into a driveway. After a short time, the vehicle exited the driveway and began driving in the opposite direction without anyone being observed exiting the vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and spoke with the driver.

After a brief conversation with the driver, the officer determined they were under the influence of alcohol. The officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied with the demand and provided a sample of their breath resulting in a Fail at which point they were arrested.  

Brian WALKER (age 39) of Peterborough, ON., was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available

The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on January 28, 2025.

Hwy 7 Collision Results In Impaired Charge For RECTOR

(CAVAN-MONAGHAN TOWNSHIP, ON) – Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving after receiving a report of a three-vehicle collision on Saturday night on Highway 7 in Cavan-Monaghan Township.

On Saturday December 21, 2024, just prior to 10:30pm, the Peterborough County OPP were dispatched to a three-vehicle collision on Highway 7 just north of Morton Line. 

Officers arrived on scene and were assisted by Peterborough Police Service (PPS) in closing Highway 7 in an effort to deal with the collision. Officers spoke with one of the vehicle drivers who stated they were travelling northbound behind another vehicle. The vehicle in front suddenly swerved as a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction crossed over the centre line resulting in the collision.

Officers spoke to the driver of the southbound vehicle who was displaying signs of impairment and was arrested.

Amanda RECTOR (age 33) of Campbellford, ON., was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

·      Unsafe move – lane or shoulder

·      Fail to notify change of address

The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on February 4, 2025.

The occupants of one of the vehicles were transported to a local hospital as a precaution.

Obstructed Plate Leads To Impaired Charge

(ALLISTON, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for driving while impaired in the Town of New Tecumseth.

On December 22, 2024, just before 4:00 a.m., a Nottawasaga OPP officer was conducting general patrols on 8th Avenue, when the officer observed a passenger vehicle with an obstructed plate.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and as of a result of the investigation,

Omar Michael 30 years-old, of Alliston, was charge with:  

• Adult Operation while Impaired- alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Obstruct plate

• Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

• Fail to surrender insurance card

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on January 16, 2025, to answer to the charges.

16 Year Old Pedestrian Run Down – Suspect At Large

On December 23rd, 2024, at 4:33pm Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) responded alongside Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) paramedics and members of the St. Catharines Fire and Emergency Services for a motor vehicle collision on Carlton Street between Roehampton Avenue and Grantham Avenue, in the City of St. Catharines.

Upon arrival, officers determined a collision occurred involving a white Kia Soul and a pedestrian who was walking west on the Carlton Street sidewalk.  The pedestrian, a 16 year old male resident of the City of St. Catharines was assessed at the scene and transported by paramedics to an out-of-region trauma centre for medical care.  The pedestrian remains in hospital at this time.  The Kia Soul failed to remain at the scene.  It was last observed travelling west on Carlton Street.  Witnesses have come forward and indicated to investigators that the Kia Soul was seen in the area prior to the collision. 

Detectives assigned to the 1 District Criminal Investigative Branch have assumed carriage of the investigation.  They are being supported by detectives from the NRPS Forensic Services Unit.

Witnesses to the collision, motorists who were in the area with an operational dash-camera, and residents with surveillance capabilities that captures the area surrounding the collision are asked to review their footage and contact the lead detective by dialing 905-688-4111, option 3, badge 1009588 or by email at [email protected] with any relevant information.

19 Year Old Deceased Following Snow Plow Collision

On December 23, 2024, at approximately 1:15 a.m., 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded alongside the St. Catharines Fire Department and Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) for a motor vehicle collision on Glenridge Avenue, in the area between Lockhart Drive and John Macdonell Street in the City of St. Catharines.

Initial investigation has determined a Red Pontiac Vibe was travelling north on Glenridge Avenue when the vehicle lost control, crossing into the oncoming lane and collided with a snowplow travelling south on Glenridge Avenue.

Tragically, the driver of the Pontiac Vibe, a 19-year-old St. Catharines resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives assigned to the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit have assumed carriage of the investigation. They are being supported by detectives from the NRPS Forensic Services Unit. The collision remains under investigation.

Witnesses to the collision and motorists who were in the area with an operational dash-camera are encouraged to review their footage and contact the lead detective at 905-688-4111, option 3, badge 1009170 with any relevant information.

Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 165 calls for service between 5:00 am on December 20, 2024 to 5:00 am on December 23, 2024.

Barricaded male surrenders

A 30-year-old Belleville man is facing a number of domestic-related charges following an incident which led to a stand-off with police for a number of hours in the east end, Sunday.

Officers attended a home in the city shortly after 1 a.m. to arrest a male wanted on a number of charges related to a domestic dispute reported earlier.

However, shortly after officers contacted the male – who was alone in the home and refusing to come to the door – he barricaded himself inside the residence and began threatening to self-harm.

Officers contained the scene and members of the Belleville Police Service Emergency Response Team and Crisis Negotiators were called to assist. A number of other emergency services were called to be on standby as the situation unfolded over a number of hours.

Shortly after 4 a.m. the male surrendered to police without further incident and was taken into custody.

The male was charged with the following offences:

  • Assault;
  • Assault by Choking;
  • Two counts of Mischief;
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm;
  • Uttering Threats to Burn, Destroy, or Damage Property.

The male was held in custody for a bail hearing. His name is not being released to protect the identity of the victim involved in the incident.

Lights off leads to lights out for impaired driver

Driving without headlights turned on after dark led police to an impaired driver Saturday.

An officer on patrol observed a vehicle driving on North Front Street without proper headlights around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

After stopping the vehicle and checking the male driver, it was found he had consumed alcohol.

Following an investigation, the male was arrested and charged with Over 80 mgs (driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his blood)

Charged is Joseph Cooper, 33, of Belleville. Cooper was released with a court date of January 23, 2025. In addition, his vehicle was impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.

Domestic charge

A 42-year-old man was arrested and held for bail on a charge of assault following a disturbance, Friday evening.

Police were called to a reported domestic dispute in the city’s north end shortly before 7 p.m.

Following an investigation, the man was arrested and held for a show cause hearing the following day. The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim involved.

Festive RIDE program continues

This proactive initiative sees officers conducting roadside spot checks at locations throughout the city to deter and detect impaired driving. Threats:

On Sunday the victim contacted police and advised that 28 year old female from St. Thomas had threatened the victim.  Reasonable and probable grounds now exist for the arrest of the 28 year old female for uttering threats.  St24023008

Warrant arrests:

On Monday a 28 year old male attended the Elgin court house and was arrested on the strength of a bench warrant. ST24023049.  On Monday evening a 40 year old male attended the police station to turn himself in for mischief and utter threats.  He was arrested and release with conditions and a future court date.  ST24023084

Theft

4 youths attended a grocery store in St. Thomas and proceeded to take alcohol from the shelves and exit without making any attempt to pay.  First female long dark hair black shirt and camo pants.  Second female red sweater, blue pajama pants long dark hair with red and white shoes.  First male black sweater shirt jacket, blue jeans, black running shoes and black and blue jays hat.  Second male grey sweat shirt, black pants and leather shoes.  Fled in a red van after leaving the store.  ST24023071

Assault/ False fire alarm:

A warrant application has been applied for for a 46 year old male who assaulted, threatened and then pulled the fire alarm at a St. Thomas complex on Saturday evening.  The male got into a physical confrontation with his neighbor and then pulled the fire alarm in the building.  ST24022959

Theft:

An Amazon package was taken from the front porch of a resident in the area of Hinks Street in the city of St. Thomas on Sunday December 22, 2024.  Male suspect described as wearing plaid jacket.  Anyone in the area with surveillance of this male during the 5:30am time frame are asked to contact police at 519-631-1224 or Crime Stoppers. R.I.D.E

Police conducted a R.I.D.E spot check Sunday morning 25 vehicles were stopped and no infractions were observed.  Please take care of the roads this holiday season and don’t drink and drive. ST24022989

Break and Enter

Several locks were cut at a local business on Progress drive in the morning hours of Sunday.  Surveillance cameras observed two individuals wearing all black with faces covered holding bolt cutters enter compound and proceed to cut locks to trailers.  ST24022995

Warrant arrests:

A young person turned herself into police on Sunday and was arrested on the strength of a warrant.  The young person was released with conditions and a future court date. ST24023015.  Early Monday morning police observed a 39 year old female while on patrol and recognized her as a wanted party.  She was also arrested on the strength of the outstanding warrant and held for a bail hearing.  ST24023038

Theft:

A female entered a local grocery store located on Talbot and proceeded to take $300-$500 worth of merchandise and walk past all points of sale without paying.  The female is described as wearing a red jacket and black pants and fled on a bicycle. ST24023023

Police Crusier Involved In Collision

A driver has been charged after being involved in a motor vehicle collision with a police cruiser.

A Thunder Bay Police Service officer with the Primary Response Branch was operating an unmarked police vehicle that was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Oliver Road and High Street shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 23, when it was struck by a passenger vehicle.

The officer and driver of the vehicle were both treated and assessed for minor injuries. Both vehicles sustained damage.

Members of the Traffic Unit were involved in the investigation.

The 35-year-old driver of the passenger vehicle is charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver has been issued a summons to appear in court at a future date.

Know Sex Offender Arrested Again – Richard Walker #PervertAlert

Region of Peel – Investigators from the 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have arrested and charged a known sex offender in relation to an indecent act investigation that took place in the City of Brampton.

On December 20, 2024, police were called to the area of Madronna Gardens and Montoya Gate in Brampton for a man allegedly driving around the area in a Honda Fit committing an indecent act.

Following an investigation, Richard Walker, a 50-year-old man and known sex offender from Brampton, was arrested and charged on December 21, 2024, with the following Criminal Code Offences: 

  • Indecent Act in a Public Place 
  • Fail to Comply with Prohibition Order

Mr. Walker was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton. 

Investigators believe that there may be additional victims, and are urging them to contact 22 Division at 905-453-2121, extension 2233.
