Jacob PEART – Arson, Break & Enter

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged in an arson investigation in Elliot Lake.

On March 6, 2024, shortly after 1:00 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Elliot Lake Fire Department responded to a suspicious fire on College Place in Elliot Lake where multiple camper trailers were destroyed.

As a result of the investigation, Jacob PEART, 20-years-old, from Elliot Lake has been charged with:

  • Arson – damage to property (3 counts)
  • Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence (2 counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court on March 8, 2024.

The East Algoma Crime Unit in conjunction with the North East Region OPP Forensic Identification Services are continuing the investigation.

Business Scammed Out of $210,00 Over 3 Years Before Noticing #CrimeDoesPay

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – Members of the Crime Unit from Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have now charged a person in relation to a fraud investigation at a business in Collingwood. 

The investigation began in February 2023 when police received a complaint in regard to a former employee of a business who had altered payroll data so that funds could be deposited into their bank account.  

It was found that over the course of approximately three years, over $210,000 was defrauded from this business but had only been discovered recently. 

OPP have now charged 39-year-old Sarah GRAY of Wasaga Beach with one count of Fraud Over $5000. The accused is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on April 9, 2024.

Ramandeep LEHAL – Impaired Driving

(PICTON, ON) – Members of the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with refusal as result of a single vehicle collision.

Earlier this morning, shortly after midnight, officers responded alongside Hastings Quinte EMS and Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue to the collision on Miller Road. Officers spoke with the driver and a demand for an approved screening device was made. As a result, the driver was arrested. Ramandeep LEHAL, age 43 from Prince Edward County, was charged with the following offences:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·        Failure or refusal to comply with demand

·        Dangerous operation

·        Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on March 20, 2024. The driver also had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

Multi-Million Fraud – Nagatheepan SIVANANDARAJAH Arrested

(TORONTO, ON) – A North York resident has been charged following a months-long multi-million dollar fraud investigation involving suspicious transactions at multiple Ontario-based casinos. 

In the fall of 2023, the Investigation and Enforcement Bureau of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) commenced an investigation into suspicious transactions that occurred at multiple casinos in Ontario as part of a multi-million dollar fraud scheme. 

As a result of the investigation, on March 7, 2024, Nagatheepan SIVANANDARAJAH, 42 years old of Scarborough, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

·    Fraud Over $5000 – three counts

·    Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

·    Use, Deals, Acts on Forged Document – two counts 

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in New Market on April 4, 2024. 

The IEB is a division of the OPP, embedded within the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), responsible for conducting criminal, provincial and regulatory eligibility investigations to ensure integrity and public safety within the AGCO-regulated industries.

One Airlifted After Aggravated Assault – David ZAMIDA Arrested

(TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged one individual with aggravated assault in the Town of Wasaga Beach.

On February 25, 2024, members of the Huronia West Detachment responded to a report of an unconscious individual on Homewood Ave. The victim was in critical condition and was airlifted to a trauma center in Toronto.

On March 6, 2024, a search warrant was executed on the accused’s residence by the Huronia West Crime Unit, Huronia West Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), and the Emergency Response Team (ERT).

As a result of the investigation, the following items were seized:

  • A 9mm Kal Tec foldable rifle with three 30 round capacity magazines
  • A .22 calibre rifle
  • Two .22 calibre folding rifles
  • A black pellet gun
  • Shot gun ammo
  • Brass knuckles
  • A quantity of cocaine

David ZAMIDA, 46-year-old of Wasaga Beach, was charged with the following:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – Three Counts
  • Careless storage of Firearm
  • Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition – Two Counts
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine

The accused was held for a bail and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 8, 2024.

Hero Citizen Follows Criminals – Kaitlin EMMONS & Jonathan GLOVER Arrested #Catch&Release

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two residents of Forest with several criminal offences following a report of a break and enter in progress at a commercial property in South Huron on February 29th, 2024. 

On Thursday, February 29th, just after 4:00 p.m., Huron County OPP officers responded to a report of a break and enter on Quebec Avenue in the Municipality of South Huron. The property owner discovered two suspects and a minivan on their property. The suspects fled the scene in the van, and the property owner followed, providing updates for police.

OPP officers from Huron, Lambton, and Middlesex Counties were involved as the suspect vehicle entered Middlesex and Lambton Counties, before being located stopped on private property in Bosanquet Township, Lambton County. A female was placed under arrest immediately, while the second male suspect was located hiding in the area. Officers transported both arrested parties to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton for processing.

As a result of the investigation, the following charges have been laid:

Jonathan GLOVER, 42 years of age from Forest, Ontario has been charged with:

–      Break, Enter a Place – Commit Indictable Offence,

–      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000,

–      Fail to Comply with Release Order – (two counts).

The accused was additionally charged with an offence found in the Tobacco Tax Act.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for April 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. 

Kaitlin EMMONS, 23 years of age from Forest, Ontario has been charged with:

–      Break, Enter a Place – Commit Indictable Offence,

–      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000,

–      Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine.

The accused was additionally charged with offences found in the Tobacco Tax Act and Cannabis Control Act.

The accused was processed and later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for April 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

(DUFFERIN COUNTY) – The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired operation related offences as the result of a traffic stop.

On March 6, 2024, just after 2:00 p.m., officers from Dufferin OPP were called to assist on a traffic stop which was conducted by a Protective Service Officer from the OPP in the area of HWY 10 and CTY RD 109 in the Town of Orangeville. Officers attended the scene and were quickly into an impaired operation investigation.

Seth GAVIN, a 21-year-old male, from Kitchener has been charged with:

•      Driving while under suspension

•      Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

•      Fail to surrender insurance card

•      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville to answer to the charges. Their driver’s licence was suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.

Dufferin OPP continues to conduct traffic enforcement daily as drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs and who drive at excessive speeds continue to pose a threat to Ontario roads. We are committed to the safety of our community.

Drug Bus – SIU Invokes Mandate

(Orillia, ON) – Officers from the Orillia Detachment Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested two individuals and seized a large quantity of fentanyl, cocaine and cash during execution of search warrants in the Town of Innisfil.

On February 28, 2024, the Orillia CSCU with the assistance from officers of the Orillia Detachment executed search warrants at a condominium, storage unit, and vehicle in relation to drug trafficking throughout Simcoe County, resulting in the arrest of two individuals.

During the execution of the warrant at the condominium, one individual sustained injuries. The individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment. As a result of the injury, the SIU was contacted and have invoked their mandate.

As a result of the investigation, police seized the following:

·        101 grams of Cocaine

·        278 grams of Fentanyl

·        22 oxycodone pills

·        $15000 cash proceeds

·        Digital scales and drug packaging

·        Multiple cellular devices

The following individuals have been charged:

Ajit KAHLON, 28-year-old of Beaumont, Alberta:

·        Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·        Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (other than Heroin) – Two Counts

·        Possession of Proceeds of property obtained by Crime over $5000

·        Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other than attend Court – Three Counts

·        Resist Peace Officer

Gurneet DHESI, 23-year-old of Calgary, Alberta:

·        Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·        Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (other than Heroin) – Two Counts

·        Possession of Proceeds of property obtained by Crime over $5000

Both accused were held pending bail hearings on February 29, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(DRYDEN, ON) – An investigation led by the Dryden Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with assistance from the Treaty Three Police Service and the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), has led to charges being laid against three local residents.

On March 6, 2024, just prior to 5:00 p.m., a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant was executed at a residence on Memorial Avenue, City of Dryden, where a quantity of fentanyl, morphine pills, oxycodone pills, Canadian currency, and evidence of drug trafficking were located.

As a result of the investigation, Glen LOZEJ, 60 years old, Erin SMITH, 45 years old, and Rosalyn MEKINAK, 44 years old, have been arrested and charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (3 counts)
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000

Additionally, Glen LOZEJ is also charged with obstruct police. Erin SMITH is also charged with fail to comply with release order and fail to comply with probation.

The accused individuals have been remanded into custody at the Kenora District Jail where they are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Kenora on March 11, 2024.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered – 3 Charged, Names Released


(SOUTHWOLD, ON) – 
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County (St. Thomas) Detachment has arrested three individuals after police located a stolen vehicle.

On March 6, 2024, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Elgin County OPP received a report of stolen vehicle being operated in the Township of Southwold.

At approximately 11:35 a.m., members of the Elgin County OPP located the stolen vehicle leaving a residence on Talbot Line near Union Road, Township of Southwold.

Police stopped the stolen vehicle, and three occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody without incident. Investigators determined that there was an outstanding arrest warrant, held by the London Police Service, for one of the individuals.

As a result of the investigation, Sheldan COOPER-OSTRANDER, a 28-year-old from St. Thomas was charged with:

·        Possession property obtained by crime over $5000

·        Possession property obtained by crime under $5000

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance – Cocaine

Additionally, Taylor GERRITS, a 29-year-old from City of London was charged with:

·        Possession property obtained by crime over $5000

·        Possession property obtained by crime under $5000

Further, Chad WHITAKER, a 37-year-old from City of London was charged with:

·        Possession property obtained by crime over $5000

·        Possession property obtained by crime under $5000

·        Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

The accused parties have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on April 16, 2024.

The 28-year-old was transferred into the custody of the London Police Service to satisfy the arrest warrant.

Meryl MCGIVERN – Cocaine, Impaired Driving

(LAURENTIAN VALLEY TWP, ON) – Two local residents are facing charges after an impaired driving investigation in the Township of Laurentian Valley (TLV) resulted in the seizure of suspected cocaine.   

On March 2, 2024, at approximately 10:20 p.m., members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a suspicious passenger vehicle parked on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) Trail near Whitewater Road in TLV. Officers located the vehicle on the trail and as part of the investigation a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted. Further testing was conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer at the detachment.   

As a result of this investigation the driver, 37-year-old Meryl MCGIVERN of Pembroke, has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences:

·        Operation while impaired – drugs

·        Failure or refusal to comply with demand

·        Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine – two counts

Vehicle passenger 46-year-old Candace RANGER of TLV, was charged with one count of possession of schedule I substance – cocaine, contrary to the CDSA. 

The accused driver had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. Both accused individuals were released and are scheduled appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 9, 2024.

Daniel HANSAN – Impaired Driving

(SOUTHWOLD, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County (St. Thomas) Detachment has charged an individual following a collision investigation.

On March 16, 2024, at approximately 11:10 p.m., members of the Elgin County OPP (St. Thomas Detachment) initiated a single-vehicle collision investigation involving a passenger vehicle that lost control and left the roadway on Wonderland Road near Ron McNeil Line, Township of Southwold.

The investigating officer observed signs of impairment from the driver. The driver transported to a local hospital with minor injuries and arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation, Daniel HANSAN, a 28-year-old of London was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on April 9, 2024.

Michael McCabe – Drunk Driving

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Fort Frances have arrested and charged one individual with numerous offences after a traffic stop.  

On March 6, 2024, at approximately 1:00 a.m., OPP observed a driver who was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle in Canada. A traffic stop was conducted near the Co-op gas station where it was determined through investigation that the driver was impaired. The accused was transported to the OPP detachment where he failed to provide a breath sample to a qualified breath technician.

As a result of the investigation, Michael McCabe, 49-years-old, of Fort Frances, ON has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code, and Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was issued.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on April 8, 2024.

Kincardine Drug Bust – Dale CONANT Arrested Again

(KINCARDINE, ON) – On March 8, 2024, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) and South Bruce OPP officers executed a search warrant at a residence along Kincardine Avenue in Kincardine. 

As a result of the execution of the warrant, police seized a quantity of Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Percocet, and Hydromorphone. The value of the seized controlled substance is estimated to be $28,533.

Officers also seized offence related property including Canadian currency, packaging material and cell phones. The value of the seized items is estimated to be more than $1,840.

Cheryl REDMOND, 41-years-old, from the Municipality of Kincardine was charged with:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance of the Purpose of Trafficking – Four Counts
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on June 5, 2024, to answer to the charges.

Dale CONANT, 45-year-old, from North York was charged with:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance of the Purpose of Trafficking – Four Counts
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
  • Disobey Court Order – Three Counts

The accused was held in custody pending the results of a show cause hearing scheduled for March 8, 2024.

Meth Bust – Names Released

(GARDEN RIVER FIRST NATION, ON) – Two individuals are facing numerous charges after failing to stop for police. On March 5, 2024, shortly before 2:00 p.m., the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Batchewana First Nation Police were notified that a vehicle had failed to stop for officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

A short time later, officers located the suspect vehicle on Sweet Grass Street in Garden River First Nation. A search of the vehicle yielded large quantities of various illicit drugs, including over 71 grams of suspected Fentanyl, over 24 grams of suspected Cocaine, over 18 grams of suspected Crystal Methamphetamine, and approximately 219 Percocet pills. Street value of the seized drugs is estimated at $17,000.00. Officers also located drug paraphernalia, over $2,000.00 in Canadian currency, and a replica firearm inside the vehicle.

As a result, the driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Michael HOGAN-DENIS, from Sault Ste. Marie, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of Schedule I Substance for Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance for Trafficking – Opioid – two counts
  • Possession of Prohibited Device
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order – two counts
  • Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order – three counts

The passenger of the vehicle, 25-year-old Bridgette SIMONS, from Thessalon, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of Schedule I Substance for Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance for Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance for Trafficking – Opioid – two counts
  • Possession of Prohibited Device
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000

Both accused individuals were remanded into custody, pending bail hearings.
