Stolen Firearm Recovered – Two Arrested

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachments Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid multiple firearms related charges against two individuals.

In March of 2024, the Orillia CSCU executed a search warrant for controlled drugs and substances at a residence within the City of Orillia, during the search, an illegal firearm was located and seized. The Orillia CSCU commenced an investigation regarding the firearm; learning that in the fall of 2023 the firearm was stolen from a vehicle which was parked in the north end of Orillia. The victim was assaulted just prior to having the firearm stolen. The firearm was later sold to persons unlicensed to possess.

Orillia CSCU was assisted by OPP Orillia Major Crime Unit.

As a result of the investigation, the following individuals have been arrested and charged:

David SHIRK, 37 years old, of Ramara, has been charged with:

·      Trafficking in Firearm

·      Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

·      Robbery with Violence

·      Possession of firearm contrary with Prohibition Order

·      Failure to Comply with Release Order

Ashlee RUSBY, 29 years old, of Orillia has been charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Robbery with Violence
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order

The accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.

2 Arrested In Meth Bust

Two individuals were arrested with drug related offences after the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) executed a warrant at a residence on Sixth Street in Fort Frances.

On May 2, 2024, shortly before 7 p.m. Fort Frances CSCU with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Treaty Three Police Service, and the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) executed a warrant after an investigation into drug trafficking. The officers seized a quantity of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine, cash, and evidence of drug trafficking with an approximate street value of $6,000.00.

Gabriel Tuesday, 33-years-old, of Big Grassy First Nation has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

–         Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl and Methamphetamine

–         Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

–         Obstruct Peace Officer

–         Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Alexis Holland, 27-years-old, of Fort Frances has been charges under the Criminal Code with:

–         Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl and Methamphetamine

Tuesday was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 3, 2024.

Holland was released from custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 17, 2024.

Zackary SMITH Was Arrested

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) – The Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with operation while impaired after he was stopped for speeding on Highway 11 in the Town of Huntsville.

On May 2, 2024, at approximately 11:55 p.m., police were conducting speed enforcement when a vehicle was stopped for travelling at 164 kilometers per hour (km/hr) in a posted 100 km/hr limit. Upon speaking with the driver, police were led into an impaired driving investigation and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made. As a result, the accused was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.  

As a result of the investigation, Zackary SMITH, 30 years of age, from the Town of Huntsville was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – Blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed

·      Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

The driver had their license suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for fourteen days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on June 18, 2024.

Repeat Offender Arrested Again

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – Police responded to a weapons related call in the Town of Tillsonburg.

On Thursday, May 2, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oxford Detachment, arrested an individual as the result of a weapons related incident, near Concession Street East, in the Town of Tillsonburg.

Jason NEVILL, a 45-year-old of Tillsonburg was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

·        Failure to Comply with Release Order 

·        Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

·        Assault with a Weapon

·        Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

·        Fail to Comply with Probation Order

·        Assault with a Weapon

Fortunately, there were no serious injuries.

There is no threat to public safety.

The accused has been remanded into custody.

Fatal Dirt-bike Collison In Arthur

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a fatal dirt-bike collision in Arthur.

On May 2, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a parking area along Eliza St, south of Tucker Street, in Arthur. It was reported that the operator of a dirt-bike was ejected and had sustained serious injuries.

OPP, Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services and Wellington North Fire Service responded. The operator, a 23-year-old from Arthur, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but pronounced deceased shortly after.

Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) team attended the scene and is assisting with the investigation. The office of the Chief Coroner was notified. The cause of the collision is still under investigation and anyone with information related to it is asked to call 1-888-310-1122.

Chatsworth Assault – 3 Arrested

(CHATSWORTH, ON) – Three individuals are facing charges following a report of an assault at a residence in the Municipality of Chatsworth.

On May 2, 2024, at 8:57 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an assault that occurred on John Street in Chatsworth. Officers attended and learned that three suspects left the address in a vehicle. The victim sustained minor injuries from the assault. At 9:55 a.m., the suspect vehicle was located, and the three occupants were arrested.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 41-year-old Ryan Desroches of no fixed address:

  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Aggravated assault
  • Imitation firearm – use while committing offence
  • Possession break in instruments
  • Discharge air gun or pistol with intent
  • Break and enter a place – commit indictable offence
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Trafficking schedule I substance – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

Isiah HAMILTON Arrested – Sexual Assault

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) – The Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged an individual in relation to a sexual assault investigation in the Town of Huntsville.

On May 1, 2024, at 11:22 a.m., police received a report from a victim of a sexual assault that occurred on West Road. The Muskoka Crime Unit, Canine Unit, and Emergency Response Team (ERT) were engaged to identify and locate the unknown individual.

As a result of the investigation, on May 1, 2024, Isiah HAMILTON, 24-year-old from Huntsville, was arrested and charged with:

·      Sexual Assault  

The accused was held for bail and remanded into custody.

5 Arrested Drugs & Cash Seized

(PEMBROKE, ON) – Five people were arrested after a warrant was executed on a residence in the City of Pembroke. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with assistance from the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) detachment executed the warrant.

On May 2, 2024, OPP entered a residence on Hunter Street in the City of Pembroke. Inside the residence, OPP located three persons wanted on outstanding warrants. Five people in total were arrested and police seized a quantity of drugs and cash.

Chantal LANCE, 36 years old, of Pembroke was arrested and released on charges of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 as well as three counts of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on June 24, 2024.

Trish BURGESS, 51 years old, of Pembroke was charged with possession of a schedule I substance. The accused was also released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on June 24, 2024.

Stephanie MARTIN, 45 years old, of Ottawa was charged with two counts of fail to comply with release order, one count of fail to comply with probation order as well as one count of being unlawfully at large. The accused also had a warrant for outstanding charges. They remain in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Corey POPKIE, 37 years old, of Pembroke has been charged with two counts of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of fail to comply with release order and one count of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000. The accused also had a warrant for outstanding charges. They remain in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Terry TURCOTTE, 30 years old, of Pembroke was charged with fail to comply with probation order and well as possession of a schedule I substance. The accused also had a warrant for outstanding charges. They remain in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

John WOOLLEY – Drunk Driving

(ADELAIDE METCALFE, ON) – Driver charged with Impaired after vehicle leaves roadway and collides with hydro pole.

On May 2, 2024, at 10:39 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Middlesex-London Paramedic Service and local fire were dispatched to Murphy Drive in Adelaide Metcalfe township, for the report of a single vehicle that left the roadway and struck a hydro pole.

It was determined the driver had previously consumed alcohol and was placed under arrest without incident.

As a result, John WOOLLEY, a 36-year-old of Rodney, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on June 27, 2024.

Hydro One attended the scene to replace the pole and restore hydro to the area.

There were no injuries reported.

The Middlesex OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority immediately.

Murder – 34 Year Old Arrested

(WABASEEMOONG FIRST NATION, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), in partnership with the Treaty Three Police Service (T3PS), has laid a murder charge related to a homicide in Wabaseemoong First Nation.

On May 2, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., members of the T3PS and Emergency Medical Services responded to an incident at a residence where one individual was pronounced deceased.  

As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old of Wabaseemoong First Nation has been arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder contrary to Section 235 (1) of the Criminal Code. The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora at a later date.

The investigation by the T3PS, OPP Forensic Identification Services, Regional Support Team, Major Crime Investigative Team, and Provincial Liaison Team is continuing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

There is no threat to public safety at this time. Members of the public can expect to see a large police in the area as a result of the investigation.

Mathew HART Arrested Again – Assault

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – One individual has been charged with several offences following an investigation into an assault incident.

At approximately 12:04 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated an assault on Queensway West in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that two individuals engaged in a dispute while in a vehicle, resulting in the victim being physically assaulted and the vehicle sustaining damage. Minor injuries were reported.

As a result, one individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 24-year-old Mathew HART of Norfolk County:

·      Assault,

·      Assault with a weapon,

·      Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm,

·      Fail to comply with Probation Order (two counts),

·      Mischief under $5,000.

The accused was detained in custody and is scheduled to appear at a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe.

Another Fatal Collision

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – A two-vehicle collision has claimed the life of one individual.

On May 2, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m., members from the Oxford detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with assistance from Oxford County Fire Services, as well as Oxford County Paramedic Services, responded to a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of Pigram Road and Salford Road, South-West Oxford Township.

The investigation determined that two vehicles collided on Pigram Road.

As a result, a 48-year-old from London was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries but was later pronounced deceased.

A second individual was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Road closures are in effect at Pigram Road and Salford Road, as well as Cromarty Drive and Pigram Road, and are expected to remain closed for the next several hours.

The West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team is assisting with the investigation.

Eli TOULOUSE – Drunk Driving

(BALDWIN TOWNSHIP, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged after being stopped at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program.

On April 26, 2024, at approximately 12:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Highway 17 in Baldwin Township. A vehicle entered the program and upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine that the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Eli TOULOUSE, 44-years-old from Sagamok First Nation has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on June 10, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Jacob STEWART Arrested Again

(SOUTH BRUCE, ON) – On May 1, 2024, at approximately 11:08 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attempted to stop a vehicle along Clinton Street in Teeswater after having received a driving complaint. The vehicle failed to stop for police; a pursuit was not initiated due to public safety.

Investigation revealed that this vehicle also failed to stop earlier in the evening for a member of the West Region Highway Safety Division (HSD) in Carrick Township. The identity of the driver was confirmed by officers.

On May 2, 2024, at approximately 7:55 a.m., the accused was located and arrested after a short foot pursuit in Teeswater.

Jacob STEWART, 32-years-old, of no fixed address has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while prohibited (two counts)
  • Flight from peace officer (two counts)
  • Fail to comply with probation (two counts)
  • Fail to comply with undertaking
  • Poss. of a schedule I substance
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Operate a motor vehicle – no insurance
  • Operate unsafe vehicle
  • Fail to stop for police

Repeat Offender Joshua BERNICKY Arrested Again – Assaults

(PERTH, ON) – The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid numerous charges in connection with an assault in downtown Perth.

On April 24, 2024, around 8:00 p.m., officers were called to a parking lot on Gore Street where two people had been shot by a pellet gun, resulting in minor injuries. The culprit then fled the scene.

On May 2, 2024, Lanark County OPP officers and the Lanark OPP crime Unit, supported by the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) executed a warrant at an apartment on Gore Street.

Joshua BERNICKY, age 33 of Perth, was arrested without incident and has been charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon – two counts
  • Assault causing bodily harm – two counts
  • Assault – two counts
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Personating a Peace Officer
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order
  • Fail to comply with a probation order – two counts

The accused remains in custody following bail hearing and is scheduled to appear again before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on May 6, 2024.

The investigation into this incident is continuing.
