2 Arrested In Drug Bust

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – A Greater Toronto Area resident has been charged after a search warrant was executed at a residence on Detroit Avenue by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team. This team is comprised of members of 20 police services including Thunder Bay Police Service and Nishnawbe Aski Police Service.

Following the execution of the search warrant on May 30, 2024, the following items were seized:

  • More than 22 grams of fentanyl
  • Approximately 60 grams of cocaine
  • 30 oxycodone pills
  • Approximately $4,000 Canadian currency
  • Drug trafficking paraphernalia

Tristan HUDSON-RIDER, 27 years of age of Mississauga, has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking in (crack) cocaine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking in fentanyl
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking in oxycodone
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5000

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Police Interrupt Doug LAMBERT’s Swim

(THESSALON, ON) – On May 1, 2024, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a person in relation to a disturbance call near Algoma Street West in Thessalon.

At approximately 6:00 p.m. police were called to an intoxicated male swimming in the Thessalon River wearing only a camouflage lifejacket and underwear. The intoxicated male refused to exit the extremely cold water and continued yelling obscenities and swearing. Due to the level of intoxication, cold water, and risk of entering Lake Huron, police attempted to arrest the male as he was a definite threat to himself. The male refused to cooperate with police and officers had to enter the water to pull him to safety.

Doug LAMBERT, 55-years-old, from Thessalon was charged with:

·      Obstruct Peace Officer

·      Being intoxicated on a public place

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Elliot Lake on June 6, 2024.

Two Arrested For Thefts

(LAURENTIAN VALLEY TWP, ON) – Two area residents are facing multiple Criminal Code (CC) charges after a series of shoplifting incidents at multiple retail stores on Pembroke Street East and Pembroke Street West in the Township of Laurentian Valley (TLV).

Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated two thefts which occurred on April 11 and May 1, 2024. 

As a result of the investigations, 48-year-old Ian HOPPER of Pembroke, was arrested and charged with the following CC offences:

  • Theft under $5000 – two counts
  • Failure to comply with probation – five counts

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 28, 2024.

UOV OPP officers further investigated thefts at TLV retail stores on April 11, April 15, April 17, and an assault complaint in Pembroke on April 20, 2024. 

As a result of the investigations, 39-year-old Benjamin LUSH of Petawawa was arrested and charged with the following CC offences:

·        Theft under $5000 – four counts

·        Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

·        Assault

The accused was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody until their next appearance on May 6, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.

Michelle DURBAN – Drunk Driving

(Kirkland Lake, ON) – The Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged one person with impaired driving.

On April 25, 2024, members of the Kirkland Lake OPP were dispatched to a collision in a parking lot of a local business.

As a result of the investigation, Michelle DURBAN, 32 years-of-age, of Tuscon, Arizona was charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused person was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 30, 2024.

Fatal Motorcycle Collision

(LEAMINGTON, ON) – One person died of injuries sustained following a collision near Leamington.

On May 1, 2024, at approximately 3 p.m., police responded to a report of a motorcyclist who left the road and struck at guardrail on Mersea Road 2 and Mersea Road 19. 

The coroner pronounced the motorcyclist, a 28-year-old individual from Leamington, deceased at the scene.

Mersea Road 2 was reopened at approximately 8:15 p.m.

The West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team attended the scene and are assisting Essex County OPP with the investigation.

Jeremy HALL – Cocaine & Fentanyl

(TOWNSHIP OF CRAMAHE, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made an arrest of a wanted individual and laid charges in relation to drugs.

On April 30, 2024, at approximately 1:20 p.m., an officer was on patrol on County Road 25 when an Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) notification was received in relation to a wanted person.

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was arrested on a warrant for a local police service investigation. Police were then led into drug trafficking investigation where 44.7 grams of suspected fentanyl, 14.2 grams of suspected cocaine, $795 in Canadian currency and scales were seized.

Jeremy HALL, 40-years-old, from Grafton has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin).

The street value of the suspected fentanyl is worth approximately $8,050 and suspected cocaine to be $1,280.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date and custody was transferred to the local police service.

David MARTIN – Theft

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On April 28, 2024, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a person on Hillside Drive South in Elliot Lake in relation to a prior theft incident.

On April 27, police were called to a grocery store on Hillside Drive South in Elliot Lake. The complainant reported that a male was caught on security video stealing numerous items and then departed the store without paying. The male was later identified and arrested.    

David MARTIN, 61-years-old, of Elliot Lake, was charged with: Theft under $5000 – shoplifting.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on June 13, 2024.

Justina HESS-HILL Was Arrested

(BRANT, ON) – On May 1st, 2024, at approximately 9:35 p.m., members of the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting enforcement patrols when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Brant-Oxford Rd. The officer observed the vehicle’s speed at 134 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

The officer conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle. Upon speaking to the driver, the officer gained suspicion that the driver had consumed alcohol. An approved screening device test was administered to determine an approximate Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) for the driver. The test resulted in a fail, and the driver was transported back to the detachment for further testing.

As a result, a 26-year-old individual, Justina HESS-HILL, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation while impaired by alcohol
  • Operation while impaired by alcohol concentration 80 plus
  • Adult novice driver – BAC above zero
  • Stunt driving
  • Speeding 50+ km/h
  • Drive motor vehicle no licence
  • Fail to surrender licence

The accused has been provided a court date of May 16th to answer to the charges.

Michael TUPPER Was Arrested

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – A traffic stop has resulted in one individual being arrested and charged with impaired operation and driving while prohibited.

On May 1, 2024, approximately 10:45 p.m., members of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) initiated a traffic stop on a motor vehicle in the area of the 200 Block of Fifth Street East in the Town of Fort Frances.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Fort Frances OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Michael TUPPER, 60-years-old, of Lavallee Township, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·      Operation While Prohibited

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Fort Frances on June 3rd, 2024.

Fatal Collision

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – One person has died following a motor vehicle collision in the Municipality of North Perth late last night.

On May 1, 2024 at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with Perth County Paramedic Services, and the North Perth Fire Department, responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Line 72, east of Perth Road 158, North Perth. A passenger vehicle and an off-road vehicle had collided.

One occupant of the off-road vehicle, a 70-year-old from Toronto, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, and members of the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team are assisting Perth County OPP with the investigation.

The area of Perth Line 72 between Perth Road 158 and Road 154 remains closed for the protection of emergency responders and to facilitate the investigation, and will likely be closed for a number of hours.

Marcel LAFONTAINE Was Arrested

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – An officer-initiated traffic stop led to the driver being charged for several criminal offences.

On April 27, 2024, shortly after 11:00 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was observed swerving on Riverside Drive in Kapuskasing.

Police spoke to the driver and determined that they had been consuming an intoxicating substance.  The driver was arrested and a search incident to arrest revealed the driver to be in possession of a substance suspected to be cocaine. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen, and the driver’s licence was suspended under the criminal code. The driver was transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Marcel LAFONTAINE, 48 years of age of Hearst, was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Take motor vehicle without consent
  • Operation while prohibited under the criminal code – two counts
  • Driving while under suspension (HTA)

The accused remains in custody and is next scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 13, 2024 in Kapuskasing.

Brian ABRAM Was Arrested

(ONEIDA NATION OF THE THAMES FIRST NATION, ON) – Dispute leads to multiple charges.

On April 30, 2024, at 6:21 p.m., members of the Oneida Nation Police Service and the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to an address on Bodkin Road, Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation, for the report of a family dispute.

As a result, Brian ABRAM a 34-year-old of Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation, has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:

  • Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm (two counts)
  • Mischief Under $ 5,000
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

The accused was held for bail.

Abigail DOZOIS Was Arrested

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County (Chatham) Detachment has charged an individual following a collision investigation.

On April 30, 2024, at approximately 9:20 p.m., members of Chatham-Kent Emergency Medical Services (EMS) discovered a single-vehicle collision on St. Clair Road near Greenvalley Line, Municipality of Chatham-Kent and notified police.

The lone driver was assessed by EMS on-scene, no serious injuries were reported, and the driver declined transport to a local hospital.

Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) and the Elgin County OPP (Chatham Detachment) attended the location, and a collision investigation was initiated.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication from the driver and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test was administered, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Chatham OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Abigail DOZOIS, a 22-year-old from Chatham was charged by the Elgin County OPP with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham on June 3, 2024.

Two From Wiarton Arrested In Meth Bust

(SOUTH BRUCE PENISULA, ON) – Two individuals were charged following a drug investigation and the execution of a search warrant at a residence by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Grey Bruce Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU).

On May 1, 2024, at 5:55 am, members of Grey Bruce CSCU with assistance of the South Bruce CSCU, and the members of the Grey Bruce OPP executed a search warrant at a residence on Dawson Street in South Bruce Peninsula.

During the search officers discovered and seized a quantity of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and psilocybin along with drug paraphernalia. The combined estimated value of the seized controlled substances is $600.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 21-year-old Matthew Nickels of Wiarton with:

  • Possession Schedule I Substance – Cocaine
  • Possession Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Possession Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl
  • Possession Schedule I Substance – Psilocybin

Charged with the following alleged offences is 56-year-old Timothy Moore of Wiarton with:

  • Possession Schedule I Substance – Cocaine
  • Possession Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Possession Schedule I Substance – Psilocybin

The accused parties were released and are scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on June 13, 2024.

Khizar ALI Was Arrested

(NORTH BAY, ON) – Police arrested and charged one person with several drug related offences in North Bay.

On April 29, 2024, members of the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a person leaving a residence on 5th Avenue West in the City of North Bay. Once the person was arrested a Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA) search warrant was executed. 

The search resulted in the seizure of drug paraphernalia, Canadian currency, digital scale, and a money counter. Police also seized drugs suspected to be fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, hydromorphone, and oxycodone.

As a result of the investigation Khizar ALI, a 37-year-old from Bowmanville was arrested

and charged with the following:

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin) – two counts

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

·        Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 – in Canada

·        Produce a Schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin)

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs

The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of

Justice in North Bay on May 2, 2024.
