Drug Bust – Names Released

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – On July 8, 2024, officers from the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged three people for drug trafficking offences in the Municipality.

At approximately 1:45 pm, officers on general patrol conducted a traffic stop on Highway 72. Through investigation it was determined that the driver was suspended, the vehicle was not insured, and the driver and occupants were in possession of drug paraphernalia and illicit substances.

Following investigation, Kenneth VENEMA, 61 years old, from Thunder Bay, has been arrested and charged with the following Controlled Drug and Substances Act and Canadian Automobile Insurance Act offences:

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts,

·        Operate Motor Vehicle without insurance, and

·        Produce false insurance.

As well as facing additional charges under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.

Additionally, Elsa SHAKAKEESIC, 32 years old, and Layla GRAY, 22 years old, both from Thunder Bay, are charged with two counts each of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.

All accused remain in police custody and will appear in Kenora Ontario Court of Justice Bail court on July 9, 2024.

Sandra ARSENAULT – Impaired Driving

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – A Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program in Kapuskasing led to an impaired driving charge.

On July 1, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE program in Kapuskasing, when an officer stopped a vehicle on Ash Street.

Upon speaking with the driver, police determined that they had been consuming an intoxicating substance. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing. 

As a result of the investigation, Sandra ARSENAULT, 60 years of age of Kapuskasing, was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 12, 2024, in Kapuskasing. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Alain MORIN – Drunk Driving

(HEARST, ON) – A Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program led to the arrest of one driver North of Hearst.

On June 30, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE program on Hanlan Casgrain Concession Road 8 & 9, North of Hearst.

Officers determined one driver entering the RIDE stop had been consuming an alcohol beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Hearst detachment for further testing. Several containers of open liquor were located within the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Alain MORIN, 56 years of age of Hearst, was charged with the following:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 17, 2024, in Hearst. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Chance MATTINAS – Drunk Driving

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – A traffic complaint led to impaired driving charges in Kapuskasing.

On June 28, 2024, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of a suspected impaired driver on Highway 11, east of Kapuskasing.

Officers located and stopped the vehicle on Gurney Road in Kapuskasing and upon speaking with the driver, police determined that the driver had been consuming an alcohol beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing. Several bottles of open liquor containers were located in the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Chance MATTINAS, 29 years of age of Constance Lake, was charged with the following:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

·        Drive motor vehicle – no licence

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 12, 2024, in Kapuskasing. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) seized a large quantity of drugs and weapons.

On July 6, 2024, just before 7:00 p.m., officers of Orillia OPP were on general patrol on Barrie Road, in the City of Orillia. Officers observed a motor vehicle was travelling in a manner consistent with driving impaired, therefore a traffic stop was initiated. Upon speaking with the occupants, the officer noticed a cannabis joint in the motor vehicle, therefore the occupants were detained for further investigation. During the initial investigation, police located:

–      Police pepper spray

–      A prohibited knife

–      A conductive energy weapon.

–      Canadian Currency

Through investigation, officers formed grounds the occupants were trafficking in illegal substances. The motor vehicle was seized, and a warrant was obtained to search the vehicle fully.

The warrant was executed, and the following was seized by police:

–      A loaded Smith and Wesson revolver handgun

–      164.5 grams of fentanyl

–      6.9 grams of cocaine

–      37 hydromorphone

–      1 oxycodone

As a result of this investigation, Irshad AHMED, 41-year-old of the City of Barrie has been charged with:

–      Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order, contrary to section 117.01(1) if the Criminal Code of Canada (CC) x2

–      Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition contrary to section 92(2) CC

–      Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm section 91(1) CC

–      Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm section 94 CC.

–      Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition section 95(1) CC

–      Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm section 95(1).

–      Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 section 354(1)(a)

–      Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose section 88 CC

–      Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm section 92(1)

–      Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking-Opioid contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA)

–      Possession of schedule 1 substance- opioid section 4(1) CDSA

–      Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition contrary to section 92(2) CC

–      Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm section 91(1) CC

–      Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm section 94 CC.

–      Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition section 95(1) CC

–      Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm section 95(1).

Fatal Motorcycle Vs Deer Collision

(BRANT TOWNSHIP, ON) – One individual is deceased following a collision in Brant Township. The highway has since reopened.

On July 9, 2024, at 6:04 a.m. the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Bruce County Paramedic Services and the Walkerton Fire Department responded to a report of a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a deer. A 68-year-old from Brockton was transported to a local hospital by Bruce County Emergency Services where they were pronounced deceased. The identity of the victim will not be released due to the privacy of the family.

Sideroad 5 South in the Township of Brant was closed between Highway 9 and Bruce Road 2 but has since reopened.

The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team is assisting with the investigation.

Zander Martin Arrested Again – Details Released

(BROCKTON, ON) – One person is facing charges after the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of a serious assault in the Municipality of Brockton. 

On July 8, 2024, the South Bruce OPP were dispatched to a report of a serious assault that occurred on July 7, 2024, on a property on Bruce Road 4 in Brockton. It was determined that the suspect assaulted the victim with an edged weapon. The victim sustained minor injuries.

As a result, one individual was taken into custody without incident.

Zander Martin, 24-years-old from Hanover was charged with the following:

  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
  • Assault with a weapon (two counts)
  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Fail to comply with probation order (two counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Walkerton on July 9, 2024.

Armed Robbery – Names Released

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – Two individuals have been arrested after a robbery in the Town of Tillsonburg.

On July 8, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Oxford detachment were called to an address in Tillsonburg for a reported robbery.

Two individuals entered a residence and stole a vehicle by force.

There are no reported injuries.

The motor vehicle was recovered.

There is no concern for public safety.

Police arrested two individuals for the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

Wilhelm VANCAMPEN a 21-year-old resident of Norwich was charged with:

  • Armed Robbery
  • Break, Enter a Dwelling House With Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of Imitation Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Use Imitation Firearm While Committing Offence
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Possession of Break-In Instruments
  • Flight From Peace Officer
  • Disguise With Intent

Connor LEVER-FOISIE a 20-year-old resident from Brantford was charged with:

  • Armed Robbery
  • Break, Enter a Dwelling House With Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of Imitation Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Use Imitation Firearm While Committing Offence

Gurlal SINGH – Impaired Driving

(POINT EDWARD, ON) – Police arrested a driver for impaired driving at the Bluewater Bridge in the Village of Point Edward.

On Monday July 8, 2024, just after 8:20 p.m., uniform members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were requested to attend Bluewater Bridge, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), regarding a possible impaired driver. 

Upon speaking with CBSA officer, it was suspected that the driver of the motor vehicle had consumed drugs. The driver was arrested and transported to the Lambton OPP – Petrolia Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Gurlal SINGH, 38-year-old from Hicksville, New York, has been charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 22, 2024, in the City of Sarnia.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(DRYDEN, ON) – An investigation led by the Dryden Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with assistance from the Dryden OPP Detachment, has led to charges being laid against two local residents.

On July 2,2024, just prior to 11:00 p.m., a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant was executed at a residence on North Minnitaki Road, Municipality of Machin, where a quantity of suspected cocaine, Canadian currency, and evidence of drug trafficking were located.

As a result of the investigation, Jaden SKYE, 22 years old, of Minnitaki, has been charged under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000

Additionally, Vanessa SKYE, 52-years-old, of Minnitaki, has been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with the following offence:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking

The accused individuals have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 29, 2024, in Dryden.

Joseph NAGY – Drunk Driving

(LAKESHORE TOWNSHIP) – One person is charged with impaired driving following a single-vehicle crash in Tecumseh.

On July 8, 2024, at approximately 10:35 p.m., members of the Essex detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision involving a vehicle that struck the guardrail near a train crossing on Tecumseh Road and Bedell Street.

Essex-Windsor Emergency Medical Services transported the lone occupant of the vehicle to hospital in Windsor with non-life-threatening injuries. Tecumseh Fire and Rescue also assisted with the response.

Joseph NAGY, 57-years-old of Tecumseh is charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with:

  • Adult Operation while impaired-alcohol or drugs [(CC 320.14 (1)(a)]
  • Adult Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) [CC 320.14 (1)(b)]

The accused was released from custody and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on July 25, 2024.

All rail traffic was halted at the scene to facilitate the investigation and removal of the disabled vehicle. The line was reopened to rail traffic just before 3 a.m.

Christopher CHILDS – Drunk Driving

(STIRLING-RAWDON, ON) – A single vehicle collision in Stirling-Rawdon has resulted in impaired driving charges.

Officers with the Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The Stirling-Rawdon Fire Department and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics responded to the crash near the intersection of Bronson Rapids and Bateman Roads just after 10:00 p.m. on July 5, 2024.

A pick-up truck had left the road and struck a tree.

First responders located a female passenger at the scene who was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The male driver had fled in the vehicle but was arrested in the area following a foot-pursuit. The male was transported to the detachment for testing.

As a result, Christopher CHILDS, age 23 of Centre Hastings was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 25, 2024.

49 Year Old From Lucan Arrested – Name Released

(WEST PERTH, ON) – One driver has been charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop in the Municipality of West Perth.

Just after midnight on July 6th, 2024, a member of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Wellington Street, Mitchell. The driver was displaying signs of impairment and was taken into custody. A Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE) was completed, and as a result, the driver is facing a charge.

Kevin ROLLINGS, 49, of Lucan, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on August 12, 2024, to answer to the charge.

2 More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(GRAVENHURST, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two drivers with impaired driving offences, twenty-four hours apart, on Southwood Road in Gravenhurst.

On July 1st and 2nd, 2024, members of the Central Region Highway Safety Division Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) Team conducted Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) checks on Southwood Road in Gravenhurst.

At 2:15 p.m. on July 1st, a vehicle entered the checkpoint and officers quickly entered into an investigation into the driver’s sobriety. Police subsequently arrested and charged 27-year-old Taylor MULLEN of Keswick, ON with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a), Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b), Operation while Prohibited CC 320.18(1)(a) and Driving while Suspended HTA 53(1). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 6, 2024, to answer to his charges.

At 2:30 p.m. on July 2nd, a vehicle entered the checkpoint and officers began an investigation into the driver’s sobriety. Police have arrested and charged 67-year-old Stephen EDELL of Toronto, ON with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 6, 2024, to answer to his charges.

Members of the public can continue to expect to see RIDE programs throughout Muskoka. Impaired driving charges can result in an immediate 90-day drivers license suspension and a minimum 7-day vehicle impoundment. Also, as of December 2018, police officers may demand a breath sample from anyone driving a motor vehicle on any street or highway, for the purposes of determining the presence of alcohol.

Michael MEADE – Drunk Driving

(BRANT, ON) – A Brantford resident is facing charges following a traffic stop on Bishopsgate Road.

On June 6th, 2024, at approximately 07:00 p.m., members of the Brant Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a passenger vehicle on Bishopsgate Road in Brant County after observing the vehicle driving erratically.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test was administered, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Brant County Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Michael MEADE, a 50-year-old from Brantford was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container liquor
  • Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on July 19th, 2024.
