OPP Enforce Law One Day/Year & Lay 65 Charges Laid In Commercial Vehicle “Blitz”

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) Members of the Collingwood and Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assisted by the Huronia West OPP conducted a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) enforcement blitz in Collingwood yesterday. Police laid 65 charges and one vehicle was towed from the highway.

The Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP is committed to road safety and removing unsafe commercial motor vehicles from our highways and roadways. Yesterday’s CMV blitz was primarily focused on vehicles operating on roadways not in compliance during the reduced load season. During the first day of the CMV enforcement campaign officers from Collingwood OPP and Huronia West OPP were conducting inspections and enforcement in Collingwood to ensure compliance with the Reduced Load regulations.

Officers have laid charges under the Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act for the following violations:

Overweight charges:                   44

Vehicles taken out of service:      1 (major defect)

Mechanical violations:                 4       

Moving violations:                       3

Other violations:                         14

Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP recognize that the majority of CMV operators are in compliance with the regulations, but will continue to conduct inspections and enforcement of CMVs operating in contravention of the regulations during the remainder of the reduced load season.

Carina PELLETIER – Drunk Driving

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – A concerned call from the public, led to an impaired driving charge.

On March 8, 2024, shortly before 11:00 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of a suspected impaired driver on Highway 11 driving towards Kapuskasing. 

The subject vehicle was located and stopped by OPP on Government Road in Kapuskasing. Police determined that the driver had been consuming an alcohol beverage, and they were arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Carina PELLETIER, 27 years of age of Smooth Rock Falls, was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 29, 2024 in Kapuskasing. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Jacob SUTHERLAND – Trafficking

(COBOURG, ON) – Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made an arrest during a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint.

On March 9, 2024, at approximately 11:55 p.m., Police were conducting a RIDE spot check on Division Street in Cobourg when a passenger vehicle approached and was stopped. Officers entered into an investigation which led to the seizure of approximately 12 grams of suspected cocaine.

Jacob SUTHERLAND, 18-years-old, of Cobourg, was arrested and charged with:

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking

·        Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver

·        Driver fail to surrender licence.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

Jeffrey SANTERRE – Impaired Driving, Drive While Suspended, Etc.

(ESPANOLA, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged in Espanola following a call for service.

On March 10, 2024, shortly after 9:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service involving a person slouched over in the driver’s seat of their parked vehicle.

Police located the vehicle in a parking lot and upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine that the driver was impaired. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Jeffrey SANTERRE, 49-years-old, from Sudbury has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on April 15, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Pervert Alert: Education Assistant Cameron Ivens Arrested For Child Porn, Sexual Assault – Police Fear More Victims

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has made an arrest and laid charges in relation to an Internet Child Exploitation investigation involving a former Educational Assistant previously employed by the Halton District School Board.

On March 7, 2024, Cameron Ivens (42) of Milton was arrested.

He has been charged with the following:

  • Make Child Pornography (15 Counts)
  • Voyeurism (14 Counts)
  • Sexual Assault (6 Counts)
  • Possession of Child Pornography (3 Counts)
  • Sexual Interference (3 Counts)
  • Exposure to Person Under 16 Years (2 Counts)
  • Assault (2 Counts)
  • Transmit Child Pornography
  • Access Child Pornography
  • Invitation to Sexual Touching

Ivens is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The accused was previously employed as an Educational Assistant and worked at the following schools:

  • P.L Robertson Public School in Milton from February 2014 – October 2014
  • Munns Public School in Oakville from October 2014 – November 2015
  • Emily Carr Public School in Oakville from November 2015 – August 2019
  • Viola Desmond Public School in Milton from September 2019 – December 2019

The accused also worked at Rick Imus Music Studio in Milton around 2008 for one year.  He established his own company, Pitch Perfect Piano Service, in 2012 to tune, regulate and rebuild pianos.  Around 2015 the accused also taught private music lessons to children in their homes.

In order to protect the identity of the victims, police cannot provide further details surrounding the nature of this investigation.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims and a photo of the accused is attached to this media release. Abhilash SHAJU – Drunk Driving

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a Georgetown resident following a traffic stop.

On March 4, 2024, shortly after 8:00 p.m., officers from the Caledon Detachment were patrolling the area of Highway 10 near Hurontario Street in the Town of Caledon, when a traffic stop was conducted upon a motor vehicle. During the course of the investigation, officers formed grounds the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

As a result, Abhilash SHAJU, 25, of Georgetown, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The driver is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on March 21, 2024, to answer to the charge. Additionally, the driver’s vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days, and their driver’s licence suspended for a period of 90 days.

Hit & Run – Dylan ANDERSON Charged

(MUNICIPALITY OF TRENT HILLS, ON) – One person has been charged after police located an abandoned passenger vehicle in a ditch on County Road 38 in Peterborough County.

On March 11, 2024, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Peterborough Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) contacted Northumberland OPP to check on the wellbeing of the vehicle owner at a residence on County Road 8 in the Municipality of Trent Hills.

No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.

Dylan ANDERSON, 30-years-old, from the Municipality of Trent Hills, was charged with:

·        Obstruct peace officer

·        Fail to remain

·        Fail to report accident.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

Chatham-Kent, Ontario: The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 141 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Nine people were arrested and two were on outstanding warrants.

Man Arrested for Conditional Sentence Order Violation CK24010841

At 9:51 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on a man reported to be sleeping in the elevator of a building on Fifth Street in Chatham.

Officer attended and confirmed a warrant was issued for the man on January 19, 2024, for breaching his Conditional Sentence Order.

The 36-year-old Chatham man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held for a bail hearing.

Man Arrested for Theft CK24010872

At 2:38 p.m., the Essex Ontario Provincial Police contacted the Chatham Kent Police, advising they had the man in custody.
The man was wanted on outstanding warrants as a result of a February 28, 2024, theft investigation in Wheatley.

The 30-year-old Wheatley man was transported to the Chatham Kent Police Service and charged with theft, possession of stolen property and wearing a disguise with intent to commit a criminal offence. He was released with conditions and a future court date of April 8, 2024.

Woman Arrested for Vehicle Theft CK24010936

At 9:14 p.m., police received information a vehicle had been stolen from outside a convenience store on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Officer arrived in the area and quickly located the vehicle. Officer initiated a traffic stop but the driver failed to comply. Officers deployed a tire deflation device and successfully stopped the vehicle.

The 25-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft, possession of stolen property over $5000, and flight from a police officer. She was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

Five Youths Arrested for Assault CK24010959

On March 11, 2024, at 1:47 a.m., police responded to a disturbance on King Street in Chatham. Information was received approximately eight youths were in a physical altercation the corner of King Street and William Street.

Bystanders attempted to intervene but were then assaulting by the youths.

A 14-year-old, a 15-year-old, and a 17-year-old male youths and two 15-year-old female youths were located, arrested, and charged with two counts of assault. They were transported to police headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date of April 8, 2024.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 147 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested.

Woman arrested for Assault, Assault With a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon and Administer Noxious Substance- CK24006662

On March 9th, 2024, a 29-year-old Chatham woman was arrested for the above offences relating to an incident on February 13th in Chatham.  It is alleged the woman assaulted another female and used mace on her.  No serious injuries were reported.  The female was released on an Undertaking with a future court date.

Man arrested for Assault with a Weapon – CK24010785

On March 9th at 12:25pm, police responded to an assault at a Chatham residence where a male struck another male party with a wrench.  The 47-year-old Chatham man was arrested for Assault with a Weapon and released on a future court date.  No serious injuries were reported.

Man arrested for Impaired Driving – CK24010745

Shortly after 4:00pm, after receiving a driving complaint, police located the vehicle at the owner’s residence in Chatham.  The owner was found sleeping in the driver’s seat and police believed the driver was impaired by alcohol.  The driver was arrested and transported to Headquarters for breath tests. The 60 year old Chatham man was charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit. He was released with a future court date.

Meth Bust – Police Vehicle Rammed – Miller, Bourdeau & McVeeney

LONDON, ON (March 11, 2024) – Three London men are facing charges after LPS officers recognized a wanted man operating a reported stolen vehicle late last week.

The vehicle was reported stolen to the London police on March 8, 2024, and later that day, plain-clothed LPS officers operating an unmarked police vehicle observed the suspect vehicle.  The officers recognized a man known to be wanted on outstanding warrants in the driver seat of the suspect vehicle. Police observed two other males enter the vehicle at different locations, and the information was shared with other officers.

At approximately 11:25 a.m., the suspect vehicle was in a drive-thru in the 1000-block of Dundas Street when officers attempted to stop it from moving. The driver struck the unmarked police vehicle multiple times with the front of the stolen vehicle and proceeded to drive over a curb and onto Dundas Street before fleeing eastbound with a damaged tire.

A number of 9-1-1 calls were received in relation to the suspect vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed, disobeying traffic lights and laws of the road with a driver-side tire missing.

Multiple officers attended the area, and with the assistance of information from the public, the reported stolen vehicle was located approximately 100 meters off the roadway on Dakota Place. Three suspects fled from the vehicle on foot.

Members of the Uniformed Division, with assistance of members of the Emergency Response Unit and LPS Canine Unit, began tracking the suspects from the stolen vehicle.

All three suspects were arrested nearby by police.

A search of one of the suspect males yielded the following:

  • 6.8 grams of suspected black tar heroin, value $1,700
  • 13.6 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, value $1,360
  • 3.4 grams of suspected pink fentanyl, value $850
  • 1.5 grams of suspected cocaine, value $150
  • 6.5 grams of suspected marihuana, value $65
  • Vial of suspected cannabis oil, value $50.

A search of the recovered stolen vehicle yielded approximately 30 grams of suspected carfentanyl.

As a result of the investigation, Timothy Brandon Miller, 37, Roy James Bourdeau, 48, and Rob James McVeeney, 35, all of London, have been jointly charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000;
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking; and
  • Resist arrest.

Timothy Miller has been additionally charged with the following offences:

  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance;
  • Operation while prohibited;
  • Fail to stop for police/pursuit;
  • Fail to comply with undertaking; and
  • Fail to stop at scene of accident.

All three of the accused are expected to re-appear in London court today in relation to the charges.

Fatal house fire under investigation

On Monday morning, approximately 12:40 a.m. a 911 call was received regarding a house fire near Edinburgh Road South and Wilsonview Avenue.

Emergency responders attended the scene, and the Guelph Fire Department was able to put out the fire.  Sadly, two adult female residents of the home succumbed to injuries as a result of the fire. Two other occupants were able to escape and were treated at hospital for smoke inhalation and minor injuries. 

At this time the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office has been contacted and will be investigating with the assistance of the Guelph Police Service and the Guelph Fire Department.  This investigation is ongoing.

Off-duty officer foils theft

A man and woman face theft and drug charges after an off-duty Guelph Police Service officer foiled a significant theft Saturday.

Approximately 3:15 p.m. the officer was shopping at the business on Woodlawn Road West when he saw a man leaving with more than $2,600 in product. He approached the man as he was loading the items into a car and placed him under arrest for theft. The man initially provided a false name.

On-duty officers arrived a short time later and continued the arrest of the man and a woman who was sitting in the driver’s seat. A search of the vehicle revealed quantities of suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, psilocybin and fentanyl as well as digital scales, drug paraphernalia and multiple cellphones.

A 36-year-old man and 25-year-old woman, both from London, are charged with theft under $5,000, possessing stolen property and possession for the purpose of trafficking. The man is also charged with obstructing police and was held for a bail hearing Monday. The woman will appear in court April 26.

Bank accounts opened in false names

A Brampton man faces a number of charges after opening bank accounts in two separate false names Friday.

Police were called to the TD Canada Trust branch on Paisley Road after a customer opened an account using a Republic of Liberia passport. Staff were suspicious of the man and called police. The man left quickly but was stopped and arrested a short distance away. Investigation revealed he had opened another account earlier in the day at a different TD branch using a Republic of Malawi passport.

A search of the man’s vehicle revealed identification documents and banking cards in six different names.

A 29-year-old Brampton man faces several fraud-related charges. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court April 19.

Two arrests at RIDE, third driver flees

Two motorists were arrested for impaired driving during weekend RIDE spot checks, while a third is wanted for fleeing.

Guelph Police Service officers conducted RIDE checks at multiple locations on the weekend to check for impaired drivers. A 23-year-old Brampton man and 51-year-old Durham man were each arrested for impaired driving. The Durham man is also charged with refusing to provide a breath sample. Both drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

Approximately 12:05 a.m. Saturday, officers were set up near Gordon Street and Waterloo Avenue when an officer spoke to the driver of a white SUV and detected an odour of alcohol. The driver was asked to pull to the side of the road to conduct a breath test, but instead sped away.

Another officer patrolling in the area saw the SUV running several stop lights and nearly colliding with other vehicles. The investigation to identify the driver is ongoing.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.

Arrest for assaulting protester

A Guelph man has been arrested for assaulting a right to life protester.

Just after 6 p.m. last Thursday, a man in his 60s was standing near Woolwich Street and Eramosa Road with a sign when he was approached by a second man. The second man stared at him for some time and then stepped very close to him before punching the protester in the side of the head, knocking his glasses off.

The suspect was located downtown Friday evening and arrested. A 49-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault. He will appear in court April 23.

Robert HOLLAND – Assault

(SAULT STE MARIE, ON) –  On March 5, 2024, shortly after 5 pm, the Sault Ste Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call in Goulais River on Mission Road.

The accused and the victim were engaged in a verbal argument over damage to the victim’s property. Subsequently, this led to the property owner being physically assaulted.

As a result of the investigation, Robert HOLLAND, 64 years-of-age of Sault Ste Marie, was charged with assault.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on April 8, 2024.

Armed Sexual Assault & Robbery Attempt – Suspect At Large

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police are continuing the investigating of an attempted sexual assault and robbery incident involving a firearm in Waterloo.

On February 21, 2024 at approximately 11:45 p.m., a female victim was approached by an unknown male near Albert Street and Hickory Street.

The male took the victim’s personal belongings and attempted to sexually assault her while brandishing a firearm. While the victim fled from the area, the subject discharged a firearm.

There were no physical injuries as a result of the incident.

The subject is described as being a black male, thin build, approximately 5’6”, wearing an orange construction jacket or hoodie.

The subject was driving a white 2012-2017 Hyundai Accent hatchback.

More Drunk Drivers Arrested – QUEQUISH & MIKANEK

(DRYDEN, ON) – Members of the Dryden Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment have arrested and charged two individuals with impaired operation.  

On March 10, 2024, at approximately 12:00 p.m., members of the Dryden OPP Detachment conducted a traffic stop at a gas station in the City of Dryden following a traffic complaint.  

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle switched seats with the passenger. Both individuals were impaired by alcohol and subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Dryden OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Deleska MIKANEK, 25-years-old, of Sioux Lookout, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·        Operation while prohibited -Legal Restriction from any other Act of Parliament or Provincial Law

Jonathon QUEQUISH, 37-year-old of Sioux Lookout has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·        Operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs – two counts

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

·        Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

·        Novice driver – B.A.C above zero

Both accused have been held for bail and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden on March 11, 2024.

(SABLES-SPANISH RIVERS TOWNSHIP, ON) – One person has been charged for impaired driving following a traffic complaint.

On March 9, 2024, shortly after 1:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 17 in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.

Police were able to locate the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the driver, police determined the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Carl DICKSON, 20-years-old, from Little Current has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive commercial motor vehicle in contravention of conditions
  • Turn – not in safety

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on April 15, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
