Corey GIBSON – Impaired Driving

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged two individuals. One investigation was conducted after a concerned citizen alerted police to an impaired driver and the second investigation was conducted through regular traffic patrols within the City of Orillia.

On July 16, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers from the Orillia detachment of the OPP were alerted by a concerned citizen to an individual that had been drinking and was attempting to drive a vehicle in an Orillia parking lot. Officers located the individual within the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, where they were arrested and charged with impaired related offences.  

As a result, Adam POULTON; 40-year-old, from Orillia has been subsequently charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with a demand

Later that same day at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers from the Orillia detachment of the OPP while conducting regular patrols observed a commercial vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop and were led into an impaired driving investigation. One individual was arrested and charged with impaired related offences.  

As a result, Corey GIBSON; 37-year-old, from North Bay has been subsequently charged with:

  • Adult operation while impaired

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges on August 27, 2024.

Kelly ZOHR – Drunk Driving

(KILLALOE, ON) – Police have laid impaired charges on a driver after responding to a report of a vehicle collision.

On July 16, 2024, just before 8:00 p.m., members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision involving a passenger car and a pickup truck on private property in the Township of Bonnechere Valley.

As part of the investigation the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result of the investigation, 41-year-old Kelly ZOHR of Eganville was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Impaired Operation; and,
  • Over 80 mgs of Alcohol per 100 ml of Blood.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on August 21, 2024, Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke. The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle towed and impounded. No reported injuries.

Break & Enter – Adam Judges Arrested

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – One person is facing charges after a residence was broken into and alcohol stolen from a property in Wiarton.

On July 14, 2024, at 4:34 p.m., the Grey Bruce OPP responded to a report of a “dine and dash” on two separate occasions. Through video surveillance police observed the suspect and was able to identify the individual.

On July 14, 2024, at 10:36 p.m. the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint that their garage has been broken into and alcoholic beverages have been stolen at a residence on Gould Street in South Bruce Peninsula. The accused was known to the complainant.

On July 16, 2024, at 10:36 a.m., the Grey Bruce OPP received a call that a garage has been broken into and alcoholic beverages have been stolen at a residence on Dawson Street in South Bruce Peninsula. The accused was known to the complainant.

On July 16, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., the Grey Bruce OPP received a call that a different garage has been broken into and alcoholic beverages have been stolen at a residence on Dawson Street in South Bruce Peninsula. The accused was known to the complainant and advised that the accused was located in the neighbours garage the same day.

Adam Judges, 39-years-old from South Bruce Peninsula was charged with:

  • Break, enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence X3
  • Theft under $5000 X3
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Food and lodging fraud X2

The accused was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.

Rebecca PURNWASIE – Drunk Driving

(HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a person with impaired operation.

On July 16, 2024, at approximately 4:25 p.m., police and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision involving a pick-up truck and a passenger vehicle at the intersection of Harwood Road and County Road 45 in Hamilton Township.

Officers arrived and began an investigation into the cause of the collision and subsequently arrested the driver of the passenger vehicle. The individual was transported to a local detachment for further testing. Injuries were described as minor.

Rebecca PURNWASIE, 37-years-old, from Baltimore, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Dangerous operation

–      Fail to surrender insurance card.

A further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute. 

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.

Andrew WYKURZ – Assault, Hit & Run

(OTTAWA, ON) – Members of the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), have laid several charges against an individual from the Ottawa area after responding to a fail to remain collision on Highway 417.

Shortly before 6:00 p.m. on July 12, OPP members responded to two vehicle collision on Highway 417 in Ottawa’s East end. One of the individuals involved in the collision became angry and struck the other driver’s vehicle with a large object, breaking the taillight. That same individual then fled the scene. 

OPP members later located the vehicle and driver. Andrew WYKURZ, 61 years of age has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Failure to Stop after an Accident
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Assault with a Weapon

Wykurz is set to appear in a Provincial Court of Justice on August 30th, 2024

Fatal Collision

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A two-vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck has claimed the life of a London resident. 

Just after 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16th, 2024, members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County OPP, Middlesex OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services, South Huron Fire Department, and Granton Fire Department responded to the intersection of Perth Road 164 and Sunshine Line in the Municipality of South Huron after receiving a 9-1-1 call about a collision.

Upon arrival, emergency services located both vehicles and discovered that the driver of the pickup truck was deceased.

Members from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team attended the scene to assist with the collision investigation. Sections of Perth Road 164 and Sunshine Line were closed for several hours, but have since re-opened.

The investigation is ongoing, and the cause of the collision is being investigated. 

The deceased is a 28-year-old resident of London.

Another Homicide

(MIDLAND, ON) – Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are conducting a homicide investigation in the Town of Midland.

On July 15, 2024, shortly before 1:00 p.m., the Southern Georgian Bay OPP, Simcoe County Paramedic Services and Midland Fire Services responded to a call for service at a residence on Seventh Street. Upon arrival, officers located one person deceased. A second individual in the residence was taken to a local hospital and transferred to a Toronto-area trauma centre for serious injuries.

A postmortem examination has been scheduled at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto.

While police believe this to be an isolated incident, residents are reminded to be aware of their surroundings and remain vigilant of their personal safety at all times.

The Southern Georgian Bay Crime Unit is conducting the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Sankeethan NAGARAJAH Was Arrested

(MUNICIPALITY OF BRIGHTON, ON) – Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with refusal following a traffic complaint.

On July 15, 2024, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Police responded to a traffic complaint regarding a motorist on Little Lake Road in the Municipality of Brighton. The complainant advised that the vehicle was swerving and travelling at a very slow rate of speed.

Officers located the described vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the driver, they were determined to be under the influence of alcohol. OPP made an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand of which the driver refused to comply.

Sankeethan NAGARAJAH, 21-years-old, of Colborne, has been arrested and charged with:

–      Failure or refusal to comply with demand

–      Novice driver refuse to provide breath sample

–      Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available.

The individual had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before then Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

Brent SEWARD – Drunk Driving

(BROCKTON, ON) – On July 15, 2024, at 7:10 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a two-vehicle collision along Jackson Street, Walkerton in the Municipality of Brockton.

One of the drivers was found to have been drinking alcohol. They were placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified Breath Technician for breath tests.

Brent SEWARD, 33-years-old, from the Municipality of South Bruce was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Brodie GRIFFITHS – Drunk Driving

(CENTRAL ELGIN, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas detachment has charged an individual following a collision investigation.

On July 13, 2024, at approximately 8:35 p.m., members of Elgin County OPP, (St. Thomas Detachment) and Elgin-St. Thomas Emergency Services (EMS) received a report of a single-vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle leaving the roadway and colliding with a tree off Carlow near Bridge Street, Municipality of Central Elgin.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication from the driver and administered an Approved Screen Device (ASD) Test, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the St. Thomas Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Brodie GRIFFITHS, a 28-year-old from London was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on August 20, 2024.

No serious injuries were reported.

(CENTRAL ELGIN, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas detachment has charged an individual following a collision investigation.

On July 13, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m., members of Elgin County OPP, (St. Thomas Detachment) received a report of a single-vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle left East Road near Sunset Drive, Municipality of Central Elgin.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication from the driver. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the St. Thomas Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Alankrit BHATNAGAR, a 28-year-old from St. Thomas was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on August 26, 2024.

Brandon WALTON JINTES – Drunk Driving

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas detachment has charged an individual following a collision investigation.

On July 12, 2024, at approximately 10:00 p.m., members of Elgin County OPP, (St. Thomas Detachment) received a report of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of John Wise Line at Carter Road, Township of Malahide.

When police arrived on scene, officers observed signs of intoxication from one of the involved drivers. This driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the St. Thomas Detachment for further testing.

No serious injuries were reported by any of the two vehicles’ occupants.

As a result of the investigation, Brandon WALTON JINTES, a 26-year-old from Woodstock was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Novice driver BAC above zero

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on August 20, 2024.

No serious injuries were reported.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested – Names Released

(LENNOX AND ADDINGTON COUNTY, ON) – The Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged five drivers in impaired driving related investigations.

On July 12, 2024, just before 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a call for service at a location on Deseronto Road. When officers arrived, they observed an ATV being operated in the area. Officers spoke with the driver who was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result, Victor GREEN, age 32, of Deseronto was charged with:

Operation while impaired – alcohol
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On July 13, 2024, just after 7:00 p.m., officers responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 41 near Flinton Road in Addington Highlands Township. The passenger of the vehicle suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance. The driver, who was uninjured, was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result, a 44-year-old from North Frontenac Township was charged with:

Operation while impaired causing bodily harm
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The collision remains under investigation.

On July 13, 2024, just before 8:00 p.m., officers responded to a call for service in the area of Main Street in Deseronto. When officers arrived, they observed an individual operating a motorized scooter. Officers spoke with the driver who was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result, Annette TUCKER, age 62, of Deseronto was charged with:

Operation while impaired – alcohol
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On July 14, 2024, just after 3:30 a.m., while on general patrol in the area of County Road 4 in Loyalist Township, officers observed a vehicle pull over, followed by the driver exiting the vehicle and urinating on the ground. Officers conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver. As part of the investigation, an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered, and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result, Eric HOMIAK, age 39, of Brockville was charged with:

Operation while impaired – alcohol
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On July 14, 2024, just before 5:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a traffic complaint southbound on Miller Road in Stone Mills Township. Officers located the vehicle on County Road 27 and conducted a traffic stop. As part of the investigation, an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered, and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result, Terrance FULTON, age 75, of Stone Mills Township was charged with:

Operation while impaired – alcohol
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Dangerous operation

All accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date.

Marissa STEACY Was Arrested

(DRUMMOND-NORTH ELMSLEY TWP, ON) – The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Perth resident with impaired driving.

Lanark officers responded July 12, 2024, shortly before 7:00 p.m. to Highway-7, east of Perth, when calls came in regarding an erratic driver.

Officers located the vehicle. The driver was arrested and transported to the Lanark Detachment for testing,

As a result of the investigation, Marissa STEACY, age 33, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on August 12, 2024. The individual’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days (Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension) and vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

James HARDER Was Arrested Again

(TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH, ON) – Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one individual with multiple offences stemming from a report of a stolen motor vehicle in Port Severn.

On July 15, 2024, shortly after 7:00 a.m., Huronia West OPP responded to a complaint of a stolen vehicle from Honey Harbour Road in Port Severn. The vehicle was equipped with a built-in GPS and was being tracked by its registered owner, who reported that the driver was heading into the Huronia West Detachment area.

The vehicle was located near Highway 26 and County Road 10 in Clearview Township, and a traffic stop was initiated. However, the vehicle failed to stop, instead striking a fence and jumping a ditch before proceeding in the direction of Wasaga Beach. A short time later, the vehicle was located on Shore Lane in Wasaga Beach, and the lone driver fled by foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the individual was arrested without incident.

During the search incident to arrest, 56.4 grams of fentanyl was located and seized.

As a result, James HARDER, a 36-year-old of Kitchener, was arrested and charged with:

• Possession Property obtained by Crime Over $5000

• Flight from Peace Officer

• Dangerous Operation

• Fail to Comply with Probation Order – two counts

• Theft Under $5000

• Possession of Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid 

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on August 13, 2024, to answer to the charges.
