John Gayosso – Impaired Driving

(BROCKTON, ON) – Driver arrested for Impaired driving after South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducting RIDE check stopped a motorist in Walkerton.

On August 11, 2024, at 11:15 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop during a RIDE program on Durham Street Walkerton in the Municipality of Brockton. 

The driver was found to have been under the influence of alcohol. They were placed under arrest and taken to a qualified breath technician.

John Gayosso, 38-years-old, from South Bruce was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired -over 80
  • Operation while impaired- alcohol
  • Possession of a schedule III substance

Cocaine Bust – Names Released

(Bancroft, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid drug charges after a vehicle was stopped in a RIDE program in the Town of Bancroft.

On August 10, 2024, shortly after 12:30 AM, officers stopped a vehicle during a RIDE program in the Town of Bancroft. As a result of the investigation, 46-year-old Jason BARTLEY, 41-year-old Martha ANDERSON and 43-year-old Jennifer SCHEMBRI, all from Peterborough, were arrested and charged with the criminal offence of:

  • possession of Schedule 1 – cocaine; and
  • possession of Schedule 1 – Opioid.

They were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on September 17th, 2024.

Robert GONNEAU – Ditch Drunk Driving

(Orillia, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a male driver with impaired operation related charges.

On August 10, 2024, at about 3:00 p.m., officers from Orillia OPP responded to single motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 southbound at Carlyon Line off-ramp. The vehicle involved was found to have exited the roadway and entered into the ditch.  Upon arriving on scene and speaking with the male driver police quickly determined he was impaired by alcohol. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the Orillia Detachment.

As a result, Robert GONNEAU, 59-years-old, from Bracebridge has been charged with:

CC 320.14(1)(a) Adult Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

CC 320.14(1)(b) Adult Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

LLCA 42(1)(a) Adult Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in September 2024. His driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

Patrick MCGINELY – Impaired Driving

(Orillia, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged an individual with impaired operation.

On August 10, 2024, at about 11:30 a.m., officers from Orillia OPP were dispatched to OPP Central Region Headquarters after reports of an unconscious male parked in the lot. Upon arriving on scene, officers observed a male to be sleeping behind the wheel with several open alcohol containers throughout the vehicle. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and transported to the detachment.

As a result, Patrick MCGINELY 18-year-old, from Etobicoke has been charged with:

·      CC 320.14(1)(a) Adult Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      CC 366(1) Adult Forgery

·      HTA 44.1(5) Adult Young driver – BAC above zero

·      HTA 44.1(3) Adult Novice driver – BAC above zero

·      LLCA 42(1)(a) Adult Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in September 2024. As a result of these charges, his driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

Assault In Listowel

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating an assault that took place in downtown Listowel during the early morning hours of August 10th, 2024. 

Perth County OPP officers responded to a report of an assault that reportedly took place between 03:15 a.m. and 03:30 a.m. on August 10th at the intersection of Main Street West and Mitchell Road South in Listowel.

One person was seriously injured and was transported to the local hospital. Police are seeking any witnesses and/or dash-cam video footage of the incident. OPP Cruiser, Tow Truck & Tractor Trailer Collision

(NORTH BAY, ON) -A tow truck driver was charged for careless driving after colliding with a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) while hauling an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) cruiser.

On August 9, 2024, at approximately 5:30 a.m. the North Bay OPP and North Bay Ambulance responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 in Callander involving a tractor trailer and a tow truck carrying an OPP cruiser.

It was determined that the tow truck struck the rear of the tractor trailer. The tow truck driver, a 32-year-old from Powassan, received minor injuries and was charged with careless driving. All vehicles sustained extensive damage and the highway was re-opened at approximately 11:00 a.m.

Terrence NICHOLSON Was Arrested

(LAURENTIAN HILLS, ON) – The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in connection with stolen vehicle occurrences in Laurentian Hills. 

On August 4, 2024, at approximately 7:45 a.m., officers responded to a single vehicle collision on Forestry Road involving a pickup truck that left the roadway, crashed, and was on fire. The driver did not remain at the scene. It was discovered the vehicle had been stolen the previous night from a residence in Laurentian Hills.   

Also on August 4, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., police were called to an address in Laurentian Hills for a theft of a pickup truck in progress which was interrupted by the vehicle owner. The accused fled the area on an ATV which was later determined to have been stolen from a residence in Laurentian Hills. The ATV was later recovered.        

On August 6, 2024, police arrested and charged 44-year-old Terrence NICHOLSON of Laurentian Hills with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

·        Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

·        Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 – two counts

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on August 12, 2024.

Murder – Andrew James THOMPSON Arrested

(GREATER NAPANEE, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal residential fire.

On August 3, 2024, just before 8:15 p.m., Lennox and Addington (L&A) County OPP along with the Greater Napanee Fire Department and Hastings Quinte Paramedic Services responded to a fire at a multi-dwelling residence on John Street, Greater Napanee. A 67-year-old resident was transported to the hospital by ambulance and pronounced deceased a short time later.

As a result of the investigation, Andrew James THOMPSON, 31-years-old of Picton has been arrested and charged with:

·      Murder, Section. 235(1) of the Criminal Code

·      Criminal harassment – threatening conduct, Section 264(2)(d) of the Criminal Code

·      Arson – disregard for human life, Section 433(a) of the Criminal Code

·      Arson – damage to property, Section 434 of the Criminal Code – (three counts)

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee tomorrow.

The L&A County OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Fire Marshall and the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

4 More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Four individuals were charged following investigations into separate impaired driving incidents.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to a 9-1-1 called reporting a suspected impaired driver on Lakeshore Road in Port Rowan, Norfolk County.

Responding officers stopped the vehicle on Norfolk Street South in Simcoe, Norfolk County. After conducting a roadside sobriety test, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 63-year-old Albert HOLLAND of Brantford, Ontario:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

At approximately 9:44 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024, the Norfolk County OPP Detachment investigated a single-vehicle collision on St. John’s Road East in Woodhouse Norfolk County. Minor injuries were reported for both the driver and the passenger.

After assessing the driver’s sobriety, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 19-year-old Hannah WORRON of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
  • Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero,
  • Driver – fail to properly wear seat belt.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

At approximately 1:33 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024, an officer from the Norfolk County OPP Detachment conducted a vehicle stop and investigation on McDowell Road East in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

After assessing the driver’s sobriety, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 27-year-old Joshua SLEGERS of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, an officer from the Norfolk County OPP Detachment conducted a vehicle stop and investigation on Ireland Road in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

After assessing the driver’s sobriety, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 41-year-old Pawel KLIMAS of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
  • Dangerous operation,
  • Disobey stop sign – fail to stop,
  • Drive motor vehicle – not equipped with ignition interlock device,
  • Drive motor vehicle in contravention of conditions,
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available,
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

Amber MOFFAT – Drunk Driving

(NORTH BAY, ON) – One driver charged for Impaired Operation. 

On August 9, 2024, at approximately 3:45 a.m., the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision on Highway 11, Callander involving an automobile and a tractor trailer unit.

Through investigation, the highway was closed for a couple of hours. The driver of the automobile who received minor injuries was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the North Bay OPP detachment for further testing.

 Amber MOFFAT, 37 years-of-age of North Bay was charged with:

  • Careless driving
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. They are scheduled to appear at the North Bay Ontario Court of Justice on October 22, 2024.

Another Pedestrian Fatality

(LEAMINGTON, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Leamington Detachment with the assistance of the West Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) Team is investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian.

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, at approximately 11:56 a.m., members of the OPP Leamington Detachment and Essex-Windsor Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a collision at on Erie Street South at Mill Street, Municipality of Leamington.

A pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle on the roadway. The pedestrian, an 86-year-old female, was transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased a short time later.

West Region OPP TIME Team members are actively conducting an ongoing investigation and are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the police at 1-888-310-1122.

Case REIMER – Assault, Theft

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – A shoplifter was taken into custody following an unrelated investigation into an assault in Simcoe.

At approximately 3:32 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a reported assault that occurred near Wellington Park in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that two individuals were involved in a dispute on the premises, resulting in the victim being physically assaulted. The victim reported moderate injuries.

During the investigation, officers discovered that the suspect involved in the assault matched the description of an individual who was reported to have stolen a quantity of alcohol from a business on Queensway East, in Simcoe, Norfolk County, around 3:06 p.m. on the same day.

Officers subsequently located the suspect on Norfolk Street North in Simcoe, Norfolk County, and confirmed that this individual was involved in both incidents.

The individual was then taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 18-year-old Case REIMER of Norfolk County:

  • Assault causing bodily harm,
  • Theft under $5,000 – shoplifting.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, and again on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

Horse & Buggy Vs Truck

(KINCARDINE, ON) – On August 8, 2024, at 9:54 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a report of a truck versus horse and buggy on King Street in the Municipality of Kincardine.

Officers attended and determined that two horses were being ridden by their owners (no buggy’s involved) Northbound on King Street. One horse was spooked by nearby construction which caused the horse to run into traffic and was struck by a Southbound vehicle. The rider of the horse was taken to hospital with serious injuries but not deemed life altering or life threatening.

The road was closed for the investigators to assess the collision.

The OPP want to remind all drivers to slow down and move over for vulnerable road users such as horses, horse and buggy, bicycles and tractors. When it comes to meeting a horse, slow down and be patient, pass the horse wide and slow, avoid actions that could spook the horse such as sounding your horn or revving your engine. Horses can be unpredictable, please travel safe around these animals.

Sabrina WILSON – Assault, Threats

(MUNICIPALITY OF TRENT HILLS, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested an individual for assault peace officer, after refusing to leave a commercial premises.

On August 8, 2024, at approximately 6:50 p.m., police responded to a complaint regarding an unwanted person at an address on Grand Road in Campbellford. Staff reported a disturbance involving an assault and the person making threatening remarks.

Police arrived at the location and the person refused to leave when directed. The accused then attempted to throw an item at police and proceed to spit at an officer during arrest. There were no injuries reported.

Sabrina WILSON, 23-years-old, from Ottawa, has been charged with:

–      Assault peace officer

–      Assault

–      Uttering threats

–      Fail to leave premises when directed.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

Noah NUNN Was Arrested Again

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual was charged following an investigation into an incident of mischief in Simcoe.

At approximately 4:45 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a mischief incident on Oakwood Avenue in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that an individual inside a residence on the premises had caused damage to the homeowner’s property.

As a result, the individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 26-year-old Noah NUNN of Norfolk County:

  • Fail to comply with Probation Order,
  • Mischief under $5,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
