Victim Bound With Rope And Put In Box Rescued – 4 Arrested

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are investigating an alleged kidnapping incident of a local Orillia man, four persons facing a variety of charges.

On January 12, 2025, just before 8:30 pm, officers of the Orillia OPP were dispatched to a Disturbance on the Rail Trail off James Street West in the City of Orillia. Witnesses reported hearing a voice yell for help. Upon arriving at scene, officers located the victim who had been placed into a plastic box, bound with rope, and had signs of being recently assaulted. Officers on scene provided first aid treatment until paramedics from Georgian Ambulance arrived on scene to assist. The victim was transported to a local hospital, and later to a Toronto area hospital for further medical treatment.

Members of the Orillia Detachment Major Crime Unit, as well as the Forensic Identification Services (IDENT) assisted with continuing the investigation. This included a Search Warrant being executed at a residence located on Moffat Street in the City of Orillia.

As a result of the investigation, four persons have been identified and are facing charges.

Ryan MARS, 38-year-old of Orillia has been charged with the following:

·      Kidnapping CC 279(1)(a),

·      Forcible Confinement CC 279(2),

·      Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm CC 264.1(1)(a),

·      Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose CC 88,

·      Attempt Obstruct Justice CC 139(1) and CC 139(2), and

·      Fail to Comply with Probation Order CC 733.1(1)

Ashley NEWMAN, 38-year-old of Orillia has been charged with the following:

·      Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm CC 264.1(1)(a),

·      Aggravated Assault CC 268,

·      Kidnapping CC 279(1)(a), and

·      Forcible Confinement CC 279(2)

Daniel BOONSTRA, 32-year-old of Orillia has been charged with the following:

·      Kidnapping CC 279(1)(a)

Bronson RITCHIE, 34-year-old of Orillia has been charged with the following:

·      Kidnapping CC 279(1)(a),

·      Failure to Comply with Release Order CC 145(5)(a), and

·      Fail to Comply with Probation Order CC 733.1(1)

All involved parties have been held in custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia for bail hearings.

Educational Assistant Arrested for the Assault of a Student – Name Released

On January 10, 2025, detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service Child Abuse Unit (CAU) began an investigation regarding an alleged assault of a student at a St. Catharines school.

The initial investigation determined that on December 17, 2024, the victim (a child under 9 years old) was involved in a disturbance in a classroom at St. Alfred School on Vine Street in St. Catharines.

The victim was physically removed from the classroom by two educational assistants to another room in the school. Once there, one of the educational assistants physically assaulted the child. The child was then assaulted with a weapon (blanket) by the same educational assistant.

The child was not physically injured. The age and gender of the victim are not being released in order to protect their identity.

On January 24, 2025, detectives arrested and charged Adam Martynek (28 years old) of St. Catharines with the Criminal Code offences of:

  • Assault
  • Assault with a Weapon

Martynek was held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on January 24, 2025.

Cobourg Police Daily Update 24Jan2025

A 43-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges after police were called to a theft from a local business.

On January 22, 2025, police attended a business near Division Street and Munroe Street regarding a theft report. Police identified a suspect from video surveillance footage.

Through investigation it was determined that the male was currently bound by a Conditional Sentence Order. On January 23, 2025, the 43-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with Theft under $5,000, Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and three counts of Fail to comply with Conditional Sentence Order. The accused was subsequently held for bail.

A 32-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges after police were called to a theft at a local business.

On January 23, 2025, Cobourg Police received a report of theft after the fact at a business near Division Street and Munroe Street. Police identified a suspect from video surveillance footage.

As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000, and Breach of Probation.

The accused was released on an Undertaking with a future court date.

A 33-year-old Cobourg woman is facing charges after a theft investigation.

On Friday, January 17, 2024, police received a report of theft from a business in the area of King Street West in Cobourg. Police identified a suspect from video surveillance.

On Thursday, January 23, 2025, at approximately 11:55 p.m., police on general patrol and located the suspect. As a result of the investigation, the 33-year-old Cobourg woman was subsequently arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession Under $5,000 and Breach of Undertaking. The accused was held for bail.

Two residents were arrested in a break-and-enter investigation.

On Friday, January 17, 2025, police received a report of a Break and Enter at a business in the area of Division Street and Kerr Street in Cobourg. 

At approximately 3:30 a.m., three individuals attended the business. Two stood by while the third gained access to the business and took merchandise. All three left the property. 

Police identified the three individuals.  

On Saturday, January 18, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m., police on patrol located and arrested a 49-year-old Cobourg woman. On Sunday, January 19, 2025, at about 4:10 p.m., police on patrol located and arrested a 34-year-old Cobourg man. Both were charged with Break and Entering, Theft Under $5,000, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and subsequently released on an undertaking with conditions and a future court date.  

A third arrest is anticipated.

Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 55 calls for service over a 24-hour period beginning at 5:00 am on January 23, 2025 to 5:00 am on January 24, 2025.

Traffic stop leads to arrest on warrant

A 50-year-old Belleville women is being held for a bail hearing after a traffic stop conducted by Belleville Police on Thursday afternoon.  The officer recognized the driver who was suspended and pulled the vehicle over on Front Street at 1:15pm.  The officer also discovered the driver was wanted on outstanding charges of fail to appear for court and fail to comply with an Undertaking.  As a result, Terri-Lynn Lafrance was arrested on the strength of the outstanding warrant and additionally charged with driving while suspended and fail to display two licence plates. 

Theft and Mischief

On the 22nd of January, Belleville Police began a shoplifting investigation after being called to a business on Dundas Street West.  Police learned that the suspect had exited the store without paying for several items.  Prior to leaving, the man also intentionally knocked over a garbage can, emptying the contents and then proceeded to throw the lid across the property.  On the 23rd of January at 11:15pm, police located the suspect.   The 31-year-old male of no fixed address was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and mischief under $5000.  He was held for a bail hearing.

Warrant Arrest:

While on general patrol police recognized a 35 year old female as wanted.  Police spoke with the female and arrested her on the strength of the warrant.  The female was released with a new court date.  ST25001377

Theft:

On Friday January 24th, 2025 police were contacted by lost prevention to advise of a female who had just taken products from the store without paying.  Police located the 34 year old female near by and arrested her for theft under $5000.  All products were returned to the store and the female was processed and released with a future court date and restrictions to not attend the store.  ST25001402

Sexual Assault:

A young victim attended the police station and provided police with a report of a historical sexual assault.  With this information police formed reasonable and probable grounds for the charges of sexual assault on a person under 16 and assault cause bodily harm.  The accused in this matter turned themselves into police and was arrested and released with a court date and conditions.  ST25001375

B & E and Fail to comply with Probation:

Police received a call from the victim that a male known to them was attempting to enter a residence.  Police located the 72 year old male and arrested him for break and enter and fail to comply with probation.  The male was released with a new court date and conditions.  ST25001415

Drug Bust – Names Released

Two people face drug and firearm charges after a pair of search warrants were executed.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Intelligence Unit had obtained warrants for a residence and a vehicle as a result of an ongoing investigation into suspected drug trafficking activity.

Officers located a male suspect in the 100 block of Shuniah Street shortly after 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 23. A search of the suspect and vehicle resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected fentanyl, more than $3,300 in cash, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

Officers then searched a residence on Sequoia Drive and located a loaded shotgun that had a serial number removed, along with paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

A female suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

Emerson SPIESS-RUEF, 27, is charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Fentanyl), Possession of Proceeds of Crime under $5,000, Careless Storage of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, and Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm.

Kyra GOODMAN, 27, is charged with Careless Storage of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, and Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm.

The accused appeared in court on Friday and have been remanded into custody with future appearance dates.

Details:

  • A 37-year-old male, from Chatham was found passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, suspected to be under the influence of drugs. Suspected Methamphetamine was found in the vehicle. He was arrested for impaired driving and taken to Chatham-Kent Headquarters, where he underwent an evaluation by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) who confirmed the driver was impaired by a Central Nervous System Depressant. He was released with a scheduled court date on February 06, 2025.

Date: January 23, 2025, Time: 12:50 hrs., Location: Dufferin Ave, Tilbury

Details:

  • A delivery driver stopped on Dufferin Avenue in Tilbury, leaving his van running and unlocked while he delivered a package. During the time, a 37-year-old male, from Leamington jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off. The van equipped with a GPS tracking device was followed by Chatham-Kent police officers to the Tecumseh Line area, where an attempt to stop the vehicle was initiated. Officers employed various techniques to stop the vehicle, prompting the driver to flee on foot but he was taken into custody after a brief chase. No injuries or damage were reported. The suspect was arrested and released with a court date of March 03, 2025.

Date: January 23, 2025, Time: 21:58hrs., Location: Wellington Street, Chatham

Details:

  • While investigating a trespass to property complaint, a 35-year-old male, from Chatham was arrested on the strength of outstanding warrants. During the interactions, the man provided a false name to the officers. He was also found to be in possession of breaking and entering tools, which was in violation of his release conditions. He was transported to police headquarters and held for bail. He was additionally charged with obstructing a peace officer and failure to comply with an undertaking.

Details:

  • A 38-year-old male, from Ottawa, was arrested on an endorsed failure to comply warrant during a routine traffic stop. He was subsequently released with conditions and a future court date of February 24, 2025.

Date: January 23, 2025, Time: 04:38hrs., Location: Orchard Heights Drive, Chatham

Details:

  • A 42-year-old male, from Chatham, was observed driving a vehicle while under suspension. He pulled into the parking lot of his residence and failed to identify himself to officers. After trying to evade the investigation by running to the building, he resisted arrest. He was charged with resisting arrest, obstruction and several Highway Traffic Act offences. He was released with a court date of March 3, 2025.

Pedestrian Collision

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police’s Traffic Services Unit is investigating a pedestrian collision in Waterloo.

On January 24, 2025, at approximately 6:35 a.m., emergency services responded to reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Westmount Road North near Father David Bauer Drive.

The pedestrian, a 24-year-old Waterloo male, was transported to an out-of-region hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver reported no physical injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.

Roads in the area were closed for the investigation and have since been reopened.

$1.4 Million Robbery – 2 Arrested

Two males are in custody after an investigation into a $1.4 million jewelry store robbery in Ajax.

On Monday, December 30, 2024, at approximately 1:10 p.m., members of West Division responded to a robbery at VP Jewellery, located on Harwood Avenue North. Two male suspects entered the store, tied up an employee and stole an estimated $1.4 million of gold, silver and jewelry. The suspects fled the area on foot prior to police arrival.

On Monday, January 20, 2025, after further investigation by the Robbery Unit, with the assistance of the Video Analysis Unit, and the Offender Management Unit (OMU), the first suspect was located in the Hamilton area.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, members of the Robbery Unit, with the assistance of OMU, located the second suspect in North York, where he was taken into custody without incident.  Subsequently, members of the Robbery Unit conducted a warrant at the residence of the second suspect.

Andrew MCFARLAND, age 37 of No Fixed Address is charged with: Robbery, Forcible Confinement, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Driving While Disqualified, Driving While Under Suspension, and Breach Probation x5.

Derek KOZAK, age 41 of Richmond Hill is charged with: Robbery, Disguise with Intent, Forcible Confinement, and Driving While Under Suspension.

Both were held for a bail hearing.

Guelph Police Daily Update 24Jan2025 – Knife to Neck, Stolen Rabbit, Etc.

Knife held to victim’s neck

A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges after another man had a knife held to his neck Thursday afternoon.

Approximately 4:20 p.m. staff of a downtown social service agency called police after learning of an incident which took place 30 minutes earlier. A resident accused another male of stealing his cigarettes, holding a knife to his neck as he continued questioning him. Staff later observed the interaction on video.

Both involved males had left the property before police arrived, however the suspect was located a couple hours later and arrested.

A 24-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.

VW Rabbit stolen

The Guelph Police Service is investigating the theft of a Volkswagen this week.

Thursday morning a resident of Woolwich Street near Division Street reported he had parked his white 2007 Rabbit two-door outside his residence the previous evening and when he went outside Thursday it was gone.

Crash closes road overnight

A Mississauga man is charged with careless driving after a crash which left a major south-end street partially closed overnight.

Just after 10 p.m. police were called to Kortright Road West at Ironwood Road. A witness reported a driver had lost control and struck a light post, knocking it down and completely blocking westbound Kortright Road. There were no injuries reported.

A 20-year-old Mississauga man is charged with careless driving.

Timothy NESSMAN Was Arrested Again!

(MIDLAND, ON) –  An observant officer from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while on patrol in downtown Midland, arrested a wanted individual which led to a further drug investigation.

Near 10:39 a.m. January 24, 2025, the officer noticed a northbound King Street cab had a passenger onboard known to be wanted on a detachment held judicial process and proceeded to conduct a traffic stop. The individual was arrested and during this arrest a further investigation was commenced with a quantity of drugs being located including a significant quantity of suspected blue fentanyl, gold fentanyl and oxycodone along with Canadian cash and drug paraphernalia was seized.(See attached submitted OPP photograph)

Charged in connection to this investigation is Timothy NESSMAN 49 years of Elmvale with the following offences.

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Other Drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin) (two counts)

Contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  at a future date.

72 Year Old Drunk Driver Arrested

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – A driver was arrested for impaired driving after their vehicle collided into a ditch on Highway 401 in South-West Oxford.

On January 23, 2024, at approximately 9:45 p.m., members of the Oxford detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 401, in South-West Oxford Township.

Gary WESTGARTH, a 72- year-old resident of London was charged with the following Criminal Code Offences:

·      Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

·      Operation While Impaired

·      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, located in Woodstock, on a later date.

Colin REID Was Arrested

(PERTH, ON) – A Carleton Place resident has been charged after an incident involving a young woman in Perth.

On the afternoon of Sunday, January 19, 2025, the woman had just left a grocery store in Perth when she was confronted by a man. The individual prevented the woman from closing her car door and proceeded to make inappropriate comments. The man ran off when the woman was able to grab her cell phone.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of an individual.

Colin REID, age 40 of Carleton Place and formerly an Ottawa resident, is charged with:

  • Forcible confinement
  • Criminal harassment

The accused was release from custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on March 3, 2025.

Fatal Collision Update

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – Middlesex County OPP investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision.

On January 22, 2025, at approximately 5:37 p.m., emergency services including members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Middlesex-London Paramedic Service and Middlesex Centre Fire, were dispatched to Richmond Street in Middlesex Centre, for a two-vehicle collision.

Three individuals were transported to hospital with unknown injuries, where one of the individuals, a 37-year-old of London, was pronounced deceased.

Richmond Street was closed between Eight Mile and Nine Mile for the investigation.

Members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

MILLER – Theft & Fraud

(ALLISTON ON.) – The Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a female in relation to an ongoing theft and fraud investigation.

On December 23, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m. Nottawasaga OPP responded to a report of a theft at Freshco, located at 161 Young Street, Alliston in the Town of New Tecumseth.

A Caucasian female described as a frequent shopper, about 5’5″, approximately 30-40 years old, wearing a black coat with hood, black backpack with red design entered the store and placed several items in her backpack, then proceeded to purchase the remaining items in the shopping cart with a store employee debit card and left on foot.

On December 21, 2024, Nottawasaga OPP requested the publics assistance to identify a female involved in a theft and fraud investigation.

On January 21, 2025, officers have charged Michelle MILLER a 46-year-old female of Alliston with the following:

Fraud Under $5000 – Two Counts

Theft Under $5000- Shoplifting

Theft Under $5000      

The accused has been released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on February 20, 2025, to answer to the charges.
