Ian ZONDERVAN – Drunk Driving

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members from the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid Criminal charges after reports of a possible impaired driver from a community member near Peter St. N and Missisauga St E in the City of Orillia. Police received information that a male was trying to get on his motorcycle while showing signs of being impaired.

Police immediately attended and patrolled the area. After patrolling the area, police were able to locate a male on a motorcycle matching the description provided by the concerned citizen.  A traffic stop was initiated. Upon speaking with the driver, officers noted numerous signs of the driver being intoxicated by alcohol and entered an impaired driving investigation. The male driver under arrest, the male was taken to a local Detachment where it was determined that he was impaired and registered three times the legal limit.

Ian ZONDERVAN, 38-year-old of East York, ON was charged with:

Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 plus

Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

In addition to the charges, the driver received a 30-day licence suspension, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 14-days.

Logan PERRY Aggravated Sexual Assault

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged one individual with Aggravated Sexual Assault.

On September 23, 2024, officers of the Orillia OPP Detachment received information regarding a sexual assault incident that occurred after a date scheduled on an online dating application.

As a result, Logan PERRY, 25-year-old of St. Thomas, has been charged with:

  • Aggravated Sexual Assault

The accused was arrested and released on Form 10, with a court date later in November.

Andrew SENECHAL – Arson & Cruelty To Animals

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating an arson incident following an animal complaint in the City of Orillia.

On September 16, 2024, at 5:00 p.m., the Orillia OPP along with Orillia Fire attended the intersection of Colborne Street East and West Street South for an animal complaint. Upon arrival, an accelerant was discovered and sadly the animal that was the subject of the complaint was deceased.

On September 19, 2024, police received video footage of a person of interest leaving the area at approximately 4:50 p.m. The individual is described as a white male wearing black pants, a black sweater, black baseball hat, white shoes, and carrying a backpack.

Before to the incident, the individual was seen on the south side of Colborne Street East, crossing north at the crosswalk. They then walked diagonally through a gas station parking lot, disappearing behind a building. Within moments, the individual emerges from the location where the incident occurred.

The OPP would like to thank the Citizens of Orillia for their support and help throughout this investigation. As a result of the public’s assistance, Andrew SENECHAL; 29-year-old, of Orillia has been subsequently charged with:

  • Arson – Damage to Property
  • Mischief – Damage Property
  • Cruelty to Animals – Unnecessary pain, suffering, or injury

Parth VORA – Drunk Driving

(Orillia, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a male with impaired operation.

On October 5, 2024, at about 21:00 p.m., an officer from the Orillia OPP Detachment was proactively patrolling Highway 11 North Bound at Menoke Beach Rd and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the male driver police entered into an impaired investigation resulting in the request of an Approved Screening Device (ASD). As a result, a failure was registered, and the driver was arrested.

Parth VORA, 26-years-old, from North York has been charged with:

CC 320.14(1)(a) Adult Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

CC 320.14 (1)(b) Adult Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in October 2024. As a result of these charges, her driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

Cameron Henry – Assault, Threats

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a male after he threatened staff members at a local downtown business.

On October 4, 2024, shortly after 2:00 pm, a male entered into a downtown establishment on Mississaga St E. and threatened physical harm towards three staff members. The male would flee the business prior to police arrival. However, after further investigation police were able to locate a male fitting the description and place him under arrest .

Cameron Henry, 27 year old, of Orillia has been charged with the following:

  • Adult Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm x 3
  • Adult Assault x 3

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing

Benjamin WOLNOWSKI – Impaired Driving

(Orillia, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into an impaired driving investigation on October 3, 2024 after reports of an erratic driving complaint.

On October 3, 2024 at approximately 6:20 pm, officers responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver. Officers were informed by a member of the public that a White Pickup truck was driving erratically on Highway 12 Southbound from the community of Brehcin. Shortly after, officers located the truck and arrested a male driver.

Keghan LEPARD Was Arrested

 (Orillia, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged an individual with impaired operation related charges.

On October 3, 2024, at about 9:50 p.m., an officer from the Orillia OPP was proactively patrolling the area of Colborne St. E in the City of Orillia and conducted a traffic stop having observed a motor vehicle driving aggressively. The resulting investigation led the officer to determine that the driver of the vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The individual was then arrested.

As a result, Keghan LEPARD, 23-years-old, from Ramara has been charged with:

·      Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Adult Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

·      Adult No clear view to front

·      Adult Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

·      Adult Drive with windshield coated – view obstructed

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in November 2024. As a result of these charges, his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

Child Sexually Assaulted – Ty ARENDS Arrested

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one male with numerous sex related offences.

On September 30, 2024, officers of the Orillia OPP detachment, Major Crime Unit received information regarding a historical sexual assault, sexual interference incident. Police were advised in June 2024, the accused party advised a group of younger female youths that he was 17 years old, provided alcohol and had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old female.

Since the investigation began, additional victims have come forward. Police believe there could be further victims.  

As a result of this investigation, Ty ARENDS, 21-year-old of Severn Township has been charged with:

·        Assault Cause Bodily Harm- Choke, suffocate or strangle contrary to section 267(c) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

·        Sexual Interference section 152 CC x3

·        Sexual Assault on a Person Under 16 years of age section 271 CC x3

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachments Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid drug trafficking related charges and seized a quantity of drugs.

Orillia CSCU began investigating individuals who were allegedly trafficking drugs in the City of Orillia. Utilizing investigative techniques police were able to gather evidence further advancing their investigation. On October 2, 2024 – satisfied with the information gathered the Orillia CSCU proceeded to the next steps in their investigation. With the assistance of Nottawasaga OPP CSCU, Orillia OPP Community Mobilization Unit (CMU), Orillia OPP officers and the Tactical Response Unit (TRU)a search warrant was executed at an address on Barrie Rd in the City of Orillia and three persons were arrested and charged.

As a result of the investigation, the following was seized:

·      67 grams of fentanyl

·      23 grams of cocaine

·      4 x 100ml bottles methadone

·      134 Hydromorphone pills

·      67 Oxycodone pills

·      Prohibited knife

·      Multiple cellular devices

 Paul HART-PAYNE, 31 years old, of Orillia, has been charged with:

Adult Assault with a Weapon

Adult Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm

Adult Poss of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order x 3

Adult Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 6

Pervert Alert: Manuel MARROQUINN-RAMIREZ – Child Porn, Sexual Assault, Etc.

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged one individual with numerous child luring and other child related sexual offences.

On September 19, 2024, the Orillia OPP received information regarding a historical sexual assault and child luring incident. Police were advised in that 2021, the accused was offering alcohol to a youth in exchange for explicit images. At the time, the accused was an Aquatic Supervisor at a recreation centre in Orillia.

On September 23, 2024, with the assistance of the Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, members of the Orillia OPP executed a search warrant at a residence in the City of Orillia.

As a result of this investigation, Manuel MARROQUINN-RAMIREZ, 43-year-old from Orillia, has been charged with:

  • Luring a Person Under 18 years of age by means of Telecommunication – three counts
  • Communicate with anyone for the purpose of obtaining sexual services
  • Sexual Exploitation
  • Sexual Assault
  • Possession of Child Pornography
  • Selling or distributing to an individual under 19 years of age
  • Knowingly supplying liquor to person under 19 years

The accused was held in custody, pending a bail hearing.

Alexandria AESSIE – Impaired Driving

(ORILLIA, ON) – Officers from the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a female party following a single motor vehicle crash in the City of Orillia.

At 8:00 a.m., on September 21, 2024, Orillia OPP responded to a call for a motor vehicle hitting a tree in a parking lot on West St. S and King St. Police were advised the lone vehicle driver was possibly impaired.

Upon arriving on scene police entered into an impaired investigation and observed several signs of impairment.

As a result of this investigation, Alexandria AESSIE, 28-year-old of Oro-Medonte has been charged with:

CC 320.14(1)(a) Operation while impaired- alcohol and drug

CDSA 4(1) Adult Poss of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine

HTA 53(1.1) Adult Driving while under suspension – while suspended under HTA Sec 41/42

The accused was held for a bail hearing and her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and vehicle was impounded for a period of 7 days.

Drug Bust – Jan HOGENKAMP Arrested

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid multiple drug trafficking related charges after a traffic complaint from the public lead officers into a drug investigation.

On September 17, 2024, just before 8 p.m., the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint call from the public. This tip lead officers into a traffic stop on the vehicle. While conducting the traffic stop officers observed drugs and drug paraphernalia. The individual was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with multiple drug trafficking charges after a quantity of drugs and Canadian currency was seized.

As a result of the investigation, the following was seized:

  • 110 grams of cocaine.
  • 228 grams of fentanyl.
  • 1 cellphone
  • $55 dollars

Jan HOGENKAMP, 77 years old, of Mississauga, has been charged with:

·        Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

·        Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Opioid

The accused was held and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on September 18, 2024, to answer to the charges.

Drunk Driver Arrested Following Fatal Collision

(Orillia, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision in the Township of Oro-Medonte.

On September 14, 2024, just after 1:0 a.m., Orillia OPP and emergency crews responded to reports of a serious single vehicle collision at 15-16 Sideroad West between Line 5 and Line 6 in the Township of Oro-Medonte involving a single motor vehicle with extensive damage. Upon arrival, the male driver was transported by EMS to a Barrie area hospital for non-life threatening injuries, and the male passenger was pronounced deceased at scene.

The Central Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement unit (TIME) attended the location to continue the investigation. The intersection remains closed at this time.

As a result of the collision, the driver has been arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Operation causing death,
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), and
  • Dangerous Operation causing death.

The accused has been held in custody for a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing, and the intersection remains closed. Fatal Collision

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred overnight in the Township of Ramara.

On September 4, 2024, just before 10:30 p.m., Orillia OPP, Simcoe County Paramedic Service and Township of Ramara Fire, were dispatched to Highway 12 South near Sideroad 15 for a report of a single motor vehicle that had struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as a 20-year-old male of Orillia.

The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team attended the collision scene to assist with the investigation. Highway 12 South was closed for several hours for the investigation and has since been re-opened.

Members of Orillia OPP are committed to public safety. Pedestrians are encouraged to wear bright, light-coloured clothing or reflective strips, especially in low-light or dark conditions. Drivers are reminded to always be on the look out for pedestrians and animals when driving.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed several search warrants in Simcoe County, seizing a quantity of drugs, weapons, including a firearm and Canadian currency.

In June 2024, the Orillia Detachment Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) commenced an investigation into a group drug traffickers who were operating throughout Simcoe County. Orillia CSCU, with the assistance of the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Vancouver Police Department were able to obtain judicial authorization on several different types of warrants and production orders which lead to the identity of the involved traffickers.

With this valuable information, combined with other police investigative techniques, Orillia CSCU obtained search warrants for different locations within Simcoe County.

On August 21, 2024, Orillia CSCU executed numerous search warrants and recovered:

  • A loaded Glock 43 9 mm handgun
  • 214 grams of Fentanyl
  • 218 grams of Cocaine
  • 58 grams of Heroin
  • $12 000 Canadian Currency
  • Several prohibited knives
  • Stolen Police bullet proof vest
  • 7 cellular devices
  • Swastika/nazi paraphernalia

As a result of this investigation, 5 people have been charged.

Arkadius LESICZKA, 30-year-old, of the City of Barrie has been charged with:
