Arson In Goderich – Chleo HATFIELD Arrested

(GODERICH, ON) – Members from the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and Huron County OPP Major Crime Unit investigated a suspicious fire that took place in Goderich on February 19, 2025.

On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m. Huron County OPP and the Goderich Fire Department responded to a suspicious recycling bin fire located outside a building on Hamilton Street in Goderich.          

The investigation revealed an individual had started the fire, which caused damage to the building exterior and wiring. The dollar value of the damage to the building has yet to be established. No injuries were reported, however the building has several apartments within.

Following the investigation, one individual was arrested on March 16, 2025 and charged as follows:

Chleo HATFIELD, 19 years-of-age of Goderich has been charged with the following offences:

–      Arson – Disregard for Human Life,

–      Mischief Over $5,000,

–      Mischief Endangering Life.

The accused was processed, held for a bail hearing, then later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on April 28, 2025.

24 Year Old Arrested For Arson

(OHSWEKEN, ON) – An individual has been charged in connection with an arson investigation on Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation.

At approximately 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2025, officers from the Six Nations Police Service (SNPS), along with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region Canine Unit and Six Nations Fire & Emergency Services, responded to a structure fire on Third Line Road in Ohsweken, located on Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation.

Investigators determined that a fire was set intentionally to a structure, causing minor exterior damage to the building. No injuries were reported.

On the evening on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, an individual was taken into custody without incident at a location on Fourth Line in Ohsweken.

As a result of the investigation, Daryoush KHOSRAVI, 24 years old from Mississauga, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Arson – damage to property, section 434
  • Mischief under $5,000, section 430(1)(a)

The accused has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on March 6, 2025.

The SNPS Criminal Investigations Unit continues to investigate this incident under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit, as well as OPP Crime Units from Haldimand, Norfolk, Brant, and Wellington County.

Amber Dawn Johnston Was Arrested Again

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating an arson at a residence on Barrie Rd in the City of Orillia.

On February 14, 2025, at approximately 7:00 am the Orillia OPP responded to a call from the Orillia Fire Department (OFD) of a fire at a residence on Barrie Rd.

Once on scene police were advised by OFD that the fire had been started in the hallway outside a door deliberately. Through further investigation, specifically witness statements, police were able to confirm and identify a suspect.

At 1:27 pm, police located and arrested a female at an address on West St. N

Amber Dawn Johnston, age 28, of No fixed address was arrested and charged with:

  • Adult Arson – Disregard for Human Life
  • Adult Fail to Comply with Probation Order

 The accused was held for a bail hearing. No injuries were reported.

Arson – Aaron Jon Connell Arrested

LONDON, ON (February 5, 2025) – A London man was arrested over the weekend in relation to an arson at an apartment building on Wharncliffe Road North.

On Saturday, February 1, 2025, at approximately 7 p.m., members of the London Fire Department responded to reports of a working fire in the 300-block of Wharncliffe Road North.

Members of the London Fire Department attended and extinguished the fire.

Police attended the scene and learned that the incident was captured on video surveillance. A suspect male was identified.

There were no reported injuries.

The damage is estimated at approximately $20,000.

On February 2, 2025, at approximately 2:20 a.m., the suspect male was located and arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Aaron Jon Connell, 45, of London, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Mischief under $5000;
  • Arson causing property damage; and
  • Arson with disregard for human life.

The accused appeared in London court earlier this week in relation to the charges.

Justin BERTRAND Facing Numerous Charges

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – An arson investigation leads to charges against one individual.

On January 18, 2025, at approximately 5:30 a.m., the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a vehicle fire at a residence on Prince Street in Kirkland Lake. There were no injuries reported.

On January 22, 2025, at approximately 10:56 a.m., the suspect was arrested with the assistance of Timmins Police Service on Mountjoy Street South in Timmins.  The OPP seized a suspected amount of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of approximately $5,500 and a 12 gauge shotgun.

As a result of the investigation, Justin BERTRAND, 34 years-old, of Timmins was charged with the following:

  • Arson – damage to property
  • Arson – disregard for human life
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Possession of explosive substance contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order – six counts
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition – two counts
  • Possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins on February 3, 2025.

The investigation is on-going. Further details will be released as they become available.

Arson – 2 Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Two individuals connected to an ongoing investigation into a series of suspicious fires have been arrested and are facing charges.

At approximately 10:35 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2025, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County and Haldimand County Detachments, investigators from the Norfolk County OPP Crime Unit, members of the West Region OPP Emergency Response Team, and the Haldimand County Fire Department, responded to a structure fire on Lynn Valley Road, east of Highway 6, in Haldimand County.

The fire involved a vacant barn, and no injuries were reported as a result.

Around 10:49 p.m., officers stopped a pickup truck on Concession 12 Townsend in Norfolk County. The vehicle matched the description of a pickup truck seen near a suspicious fire that occurred in Norfolk County in November 2024.

As a result, the driver and passenger were taken into custody without incident.

Investigators have determined that these individuals were involved in multiple similar incidents throughout Norfolk County between November 2024 and January 2025.

30-year-old Matthew SMITH from Norfolk County has been charged with the following alleged offences:

  • Arson – damage to property (11 counts),
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order.

43-year-old Chad REIMER from Norfolk County has been charged with the following alleged offences:

  • Arson – damage to property (11 counts),
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused individuals remain in custody and are scheduled to appear for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Monday, January 27, 2025.

Victim Stabbed And Residence Set On Fire

The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of an arrest made in an Arson and Aggravated Assault investigation.

On Friday, January 10, 2025 at approximately 11:20 a.m. police responded to a call to a fire in the Sherbourne Street and Shuter Street area.

It is alleged that:

  • an altercation took place between a woman and the victim
  • the woman stabbed the victim and set fire to a residence
  • the victim was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries
  • the woman was arrested a short time later

Nakitha Smith, 29, of Toronto has been arrested and charged with:

  1. Aggravated Assault
  2. two counts of Arson 

She is scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, at 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Saturday, January 11, 2024, at 10 a.m., in room 107.

FOX Arrested For Arson

(DRYDEN, ON) – Members of the Dryden Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Dryden Fire Service responded to a call for service at an apartment building.

On January 8, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., on Duke Street, in Dryden ON, members of the Dryden OPP and members of the Dryden Fire Service received a call from an individual reporting a fire at a local apartment building.

Dryden Fire Service attended the residence and located a small fire in the building. It was determined that the fire was intentionally set.

As a result of the investigation, 33-year-old, Samantha FOX, of Thunder Bay, was arrested and charged with the following offences under the criminal code:

·        Arson – Damage to Property

·        Failure to Comply with Undertaking – two counts

The accused has been held for bail and is scheduled to appear with the Ontario Provincial Court on January 9, 2025.

One Arrested For Arson

LONDON, ON (December 30, 2024) – Members of the London Police Service Street Crime Unit are investigating after a London man was arrested in relation to an overnight arson.

On Sunday, December 29, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to the 400-block of Pinewood Drive in relation to a fire outside a shed.

Members of the London Fire Department attended and extinguished the fire.

While emergency crews were on scene, a suspect male entered his home nearby. Shortly afterwards, smoke was observed coming from inside the house. The door of the residence was breached, and members of the London Fire Department extinguished a fire inside the house.

A London police officer arrested the suspect male.

There were no reported injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Michael Bond, 43, of London, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Arson causing damage to property;
  • Arson by negligence; and
  • Possession of incendiary material.

The accused is expected to appear in London court today in relation to the charges.

Motel Fire – One Arrested

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has one person after responding to several 9-1-1 calls.

On December 22, 2024, between approximately 6:00 p.m. and 1:20 a.m., Bracebridge OPP officers responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls from an individual at a motel located on Manitoba Street near Wellington Street North in Bracebridge. The individual stated several concerns, however was uncooperative with attending officers, who found no evidence of the stated concerns.

During the final 9-1-1 call at 1:22 a.m., officers discovered that there had been a fire lit inside the motel and the caller was refusing to leave his room. After police were able to gain entry and extinguish the fire and ascertain that the individual was safe, officers took 52-year-old Shane JONES of Gravenhurst into custody. He has been charged with Arson CC 433(a), Mischief – destroy or damage property CC 430(1)(a) and Public Mischief CC 140(1)(c). He was held in custody for a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on December 23, 2024.

Palmerston Arson Update

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating after a suspicious fire was reported in Palmerston over the weekend.

On December 14, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m., members of the Wellington County OPP, along with local fire services responded to a report of a small fire at the Lions Heritage Park within Palmerston, involving one of the wooden train cars catching fire. There were no injuries as a result of the fire and the cost of the damage is unknown at this time.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the Wellington County Major Crime Unit has now taken over the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided when available. A picture has been added of the damage.

The Wellington OPP is requesting anyone who resides in the immediate area to check their video surveillance footage for any suspicious activity or suspects that may have been captured between 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on December 14, 2024.

Barry POLLARD – Arson

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – One person is in custody in relation to a residential fire that sent five individuals to hospital.

On December 3, 2024, at approximately 11:50 p.m., members of the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Haldimand County Fire and Paramedic Services responded to a report of a fire on Alder Street, Dunnville.

As a result, 60-year-old Barry POLLARD of Dunnville has been charged with the following Criminal Code offence:

  • Arson – Disregard for Human Life

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario court of Justice in Cayuga on December 6, 2024.

The OPP Major Crime Unit and the Office of the Fire Marshall are assisting with this ongoing investigation. The OPP wants the public to be aware that police and fire personnel will be in the area for an extended period of time.

Raymond YOUNG – Arson

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – The East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested one person for trying to set a house on fire.

On November 7, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m. police were called to a residence on Axmith Avenue regarding an arson. The complainant reported that a known family member had poured gasoline on the house and threatened to burn it down. When police arrived, the person had fled on foot to a residence on Baily Lane. The person was subsequently arrested at that location a short time after.

Raymond YOUNG, 33-years-old from Elliot Lake was charged with: Arson – damage to property.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on November 7, 2024.

April GAGNON – Arson, Breach

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) – An arson in Kirkland Lake has led to the arrest and charges against one local person.

On October 19, 2024, at approximately 9:40 p.m., the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Kirkland Lake Fire Services responded to a fire within the porch of an apartment building on Government Road West, in Kirkland Lake. The fire was extinguished, and damage was limited to the floor in the porch area of the building. The Kirkland Lake OPP Crime Unit was engaged and assisted with the investigation, leading to the arrest of one person on October 24, 2024.

April GAGNON, 38-years-old of Kirkland Lake, was charged with:

·      Arson – disregard for human life

·      Fail to comply with probation order

The accused was held for bail court hearing, remains in custody and is scheduled to next appear virtually before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on October 30, 2024.

Scott REED – Arson

(Orillia, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a person for Arson in the City of Orillia.

On October 31, 2024, at approximately 5:40 pm the Orillia OPP responded to a call from the Orillia Fire Department (OFD) of a fire at a residence on King St. in Orillia.

Officers attended the scene and observed the OFD extinguishing the fire in one of the apartments. The fire was contained to one unit of the apartment building.

Scott REED, age 39, of Orillia was arrested and charged with the following;

  • Arson – Damage to Property
  • Common Nuisance – endanger life

 The accused was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries related to the fire and remains in police custody pending a bail hearing.
