Drug Bust – Names Released

(NORTH BAY, ON) – Two persons arrested for drug trafficking following a traffic stop.

On July 3, 2024, at approximately 9:15 p.m., the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol duties on Highway 11, Powassan.

Police observed a silver car travelling northbound on Highway 11 at a high rate of speed. The car was travelling approximately 94 kilometers an hour above the posted speed limit. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop and the vehicle fled.

A short time later, the same vehicle was located on the North Bay bypass. The OPP and North Bay Police Service worked in collaboration to stop the dangerous driver safely and effectively. After arresting the driver, police seized approximately 740 grams of suspected Fentanyl and approximately 22 grams of unidentified pills. The drugs have a total approximate street value of $223,000.

Tsion GIRMA 19-years-of-age of Pickering was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Fail to stop for police
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Dangerous operation
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Fentanyl

Tresean THOMPSON 19-years-of-age of Scarborough was arrested and charged with: Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Fentanyl.

The accused persons remain in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in North Bay on July 4, 2024.

Hit & Run & Assault – Two Arrested

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) – The Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged two people after a report of a disturbance in the Town of Huntsville.   

On June 22, 2024, at approximately 12:10 a.m., Huntsville OPP officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a local business on Main Street East in the Town of Huntsville.   Upon arrival, officers located two victims that required medical attention after being assaulted. The accused’s left the scene prior to police arrival and a vehicle matching the description was located and stopped by Orillia OPP, leading to more charges for the driver.

As a result of the investigation, Johnathan THIBODEAU 33-years-old of Hamilton was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm – x 2
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Mischief – destroys or damages property

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on August 6, 2024.

Nicholas TAYLOR 24-years-old of Selkirk was arrested and charged with: 

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Fail to remain
  • Mischief – destroys or damages property

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on July 30, 2024.

Nicolas WALL Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual is facing multiple charges as part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking and stolen property, which included the execution of a search warrant at a residence by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand/Norfolk Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU).

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, the Haldimand/Norfolk OPP CSCU executed a search warrant at a residence on Imperial Street in Delhi, Norfolk County.

As a result, one individual was taken into custody without incident.

A search of the residence and premises led to the discovery and seizure of a quantity of suspected Hydromorphone, amphetamine, cocaine, and ecstasy (MDMA). Additionally, Canadian and American currency, drug paraphernalia, and a replica firearm were confiscated.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 29-year-old Nicolas WALL of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code (nine counts),
  • Drive motor vehicle – improper licence (six counts),
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle (five counts),
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine,
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs,
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin),
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – in Canada.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

Police anticipate additional charges as this investigation continues. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

Two More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(RAINY RIVER DISTRICT, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in the Rainy River District laid two impaired charges last weekend.  

On June 29, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m. Atikokan OPP officers were responding to a call for service when they observed an individual operating a motorized scooter who appeared to be intoxicated. Officers conducted a traffic stop and demanded the individual provide a breath sample into an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The operator refused to provide a sample and was subsequently arrested.

John Masson, 68-years-old, of Atikokan is charged with Failure to Comply with Demand contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. Masson is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 22, 2024.

Further, On June 29, 2024, at approximately 8:40 p.m. marine operators of the Rainy River District were conducting general patrol duties on Rainy Lake and began a vessel and fishery inspection. Alcohol was located near the vessel operator and he was instructed to provide a breath sample on the ASD. The vessel operator failed the ASD and was subsequently arrested.

Scott Chalupsky, 54-years-old, of Fort Frances is charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80+ contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. Chalupsky was charged under various provincial acts with Possessing a Fish of a Prohibited Size Under a Sport Fishing Licence and Operating a Pleasure Craft Without Prescribed Vessel Safety Equipment.

Chalupsky is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on July 15, 2024.

Anthony RENAUD Was Arrested

(MARKSTAY-WARREN, ON) – Police arrested and charged the driver with impaired driving after investigating a single motor vehicle collision.

On July 2, 2024, shortly before 11:00 p.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Fire Services and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to a single motor vehicle collision with a utility pole, on Ratter Lake Road.

EMS assessed the lone driver for minor injuries, who was then arrested for impaired driving and then transported to an OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Anthony RENAUD, 49 years-of -age, from Markstay-Warren was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on August 1, 2024, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Kara PEPPER Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual is facing driving and drug-related charges following an investigation into an impaired driving incident in Port Dover.

At approximately 8:03 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment, along with Norfolk County Paramedic Services and the Norfolk County Fire Department, responded to a collision involving a pickup truck and a sedan near the Port Dover lift bridge on Hamilton Plank Road in Port Dover, Norfolk County. Minor injuries were reported for both drivers.

After assessing the pickup truck driver’s sobriety at the roadside, they were taken into custody without incident.

Officers discovered and seized a quantity of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, and hydromorphone (Dilaudid) during a search of the vehicle.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 35-year-old Kara PEPPER of Niagara Falls, Ontario:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
  • Dangerous operation,
  • Driving while under suspension,
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit,
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance – methamphetamine,
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin),
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin).

The accused was detained in custody and is scheduled to appear at a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe.

SIU Invokes Mandate Into Tiny Township Fatal Crash

(MIDLAND,ON) – The Province of Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate into a fatal single vehicle crash in Springwater Township.

At approximately 2:40 p.m. July 3, 2024 officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were on scene of a single vehicle crash on Crossland Road between Flos Road 11 and the Tiny/Flos Townline Road. The vehicle had two occupants at the time of the crash, one of which was pronounced deceased the scene and the other was transported to an area hospital by County of Simcoe Paramedic Services.

The roadway has reopened as of 10:30p.m. July 3, 2024 after the scene was investigated by members of the SIU.

2 Arrested In Drug Bust – Names Released

(TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH, ON) – Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a male and female with prohibited driving and drug related charges.

In early April 2024, Members from Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) initiated a drug trafficking investigation into a female believed to be trafficking fentanyl and cocaine in the Huronia West Detachment area. The female had been the subject of a previous drug investigation in West Region and is presently before the courts for those charges. Further investigation led to the identification of a male party believed to be involved in drug trafficking along with the female.

On June 17th, 2024, CSCU observed evidence consistent with drug trafficking. Investigators were able to safely conduct a traffic stop with the assistance of uniform officers from Huronia West OPP.

Accused male and female were arrested and charged with drug related offences. The vehicle was transported to the Huronia West Detachment where a search was conducted. As a result of the search a significant amount of fentanyl and cocaine along with offence related currency were seized.

Lisa PHARAND, 42-year-old of South Bruce Peninsula, was arrested and charged with the following:

·        Possession of Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·        Possession of Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid other than Heroin

Richard CARVER, 41-year-old of Wasaga Beach, was arrested and charged with the following:

·        Possession of Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·        Possession of Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid other than Heroin

·        Operation While Prohibited

Both male and female were held for bail.

Two From Meaford Arrested

(TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH, CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP, ON) – Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a male and female with theft related charges from Meaford, Grey County.

On March 16, 2024, members of the Huronia West Detachment responded to a report of at theft that occurred in Clearview Township, where a male and female had rented an Air BnB and stole a large amount of furniture and appliances.

Members from Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) conducted further investigation which led to a storage locker in the Collingwood area that had been rented by the accused. A search warrant was authored and executed at the storage facility where some of the stolen property was located.

Christopher BIKKER, 43-year-old of Meaford, was arrested and charged with the following:

·        Theft Over $5000

·        Possession of Property Over $5000

Nicole SWANN, 36-year-old of Meaford, was arrested and charged with the following:

·        Theft Over $5000

·        Possession of Property Over $5000

Murder In Central Huron

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A young person has been charged with first degree murder in connection with a death investigation in Central Huron.

On July 2, 2024, at 4:18 p.m., members of the Huron County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency services responded to a Cut Line Road address between Parr Line and Tipperary Line, where a youth was located, transported to hospital, and later pronounced deceased.

As a result of the investigation, police have charged a young person from Central Huron with first degree murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.

 The identity of the accused is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and will not be released.

The investigation continues by the Huron County OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner.

Conner RODWELL Was Arrested

(NORTH BAY, ON) – Novice driver stopped for traffic complaint faces several charges. 

On July 2, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to numerous traffic complaints involving a black car northbound on Highway 11. Police located the car and observed it to be travelling at approximately 188km/hr. The vehicle did not stop and fled from police.  

A short time later police observed the same vehicle travelling on Highway 11 near the Nosbonsing exit and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was not cooperative with police and subsequently arrested after further investigation.

Conner RODWELL, 31-years-of-age, from Milford Bay was charged with:

  • Refusal to comply with demand
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
  • Drive motor vehicle no validation on plate
  • Fail to stop for police
  • Novice Driver fail to provide breath sample
  • Novice Driver BAC above zero

The accused’s drivers licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was impounded for 14 days. They are scheduled to appear at the North Bay Ontario Court of Justice on August 13, 2024.

Ian MACDONALD – Drunk Driving

(CENTRAL ELGIN, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment has charged an individual following a traffic stop.

On June 28, 2024, at approximately 10:50 p.m., a member of the Elgin OPP stopped a passenger vehicle on Lotus Lane, Municipality of Central Elgin after observing a vehicle driving erratically in the Village of Port Stanley.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test was administered, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Elgin OPP St. Thomas Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Ian MACDONALD, a 22-year-old from St. Thomas was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on August 13, 2024.

Lamar JOHNSON Was Arrested Again

(MOOSONEE, ON) – An arrest was made in Moosonee for a breach of probation after a traffic stop was conducted on a bicycle.

On June 28, 2024, the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received multiple calls reporting a suspicious person, getting off the train approximately 20 km south of Moosonee.

On July 3, 2024, at approximately 2:00 a.m., James Bay OPP conducted a traffic stop on two bicycle riders on Hutchison Road in Moosonee, who were observed to be without proper lights. One person failed to identify themselves and failed to stop for police.

Officers continued the investigation at a residence on Hutchison Road and located the person, who then provided police with a false name. Police arrested the individual, who was confirmed to be the same person from the suspicious person calls from June 28.

As a result of the investigation, police were able to identify the person, Lamar JOHNSON, 24 years of age of Brampton, who was charged with the following:

  • Obstruct peace officer (two counts)
  • Failure to comply with a probation order (two counts)
  • Failure to comply with a release order
  • Improper bicycle lighting
  • No horn – bicycle

Further, during the investigation one other person was located and arrested at the same residence on outstanding warrants. Wilbert Joshua JEFFRIES, 36 years of age of Moose Factory was charged with three counts of failure to comply with a release order.

Both accused persons remain in custody awaiting a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Moosonee.

Ronald ALLENSEN – Drunk Driving

(BAYHAM, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment arrested an impaired driver at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint.

On June 29, 2024, members of the Elgin OPP were conducting a RIDE checkpoint on Nova Scotia Line near Chatham Street, Municipality of Bayham. At approximately 10:05 p.m., police stopped a passenger vehicle and checked for driver sobriety.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed a cannabis cigarette within the vehicle, detected signs of alcohol consumption, and administered a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Elgin OPP St. Thomas Detachment for further testing.

The investigating officer also discovered an additional quantity of cannabis within the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Ronald ALLENSEN, 70-year-old from Port Burwell was charged with the following:

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Possession of over 30g dried cannabis (or equivalent) in a public place

·        Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on August 13, 2024.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – Police were on general patrol in the Town of Tillsonburg when they pulled over a vehicle for the suspicion of impaired driving.

On July 2, 2024, at approximately 10:15 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Oxford detachment were on general patrol when they observed a vehicle being driven in a concerning manner. Police suspected the driver may be impaired and initiated a traffic stop.

Upon further investigation police arrested three individuals for the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

Melissa HEWER a 52-year-old resident of Tillsonburg was charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with a Release Order
  • Possession of an Identity Document
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (three counts)

Donald PETTIT a 35-year-old resident of Bayham was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (three counts)

Corrinne SWARTZ a 27-year-old resident of Bayham was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (three counts)

The accused individuals have been remanded into custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, located in Woodstock, on a later date.
