UNLOCKED VEHICLE ENTERED

(PORT HOPE, ON) – Overnight on Tuesday June 24, 2014 unknown persons entered two UNLOCKED vehicles in the Municipality of Port Hope and stole the victim’s personal identification and other cards.

Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report that sometime between 11:00 pm on June 23 and 6:00 am on June 24 unknown persons entered two unlocked vehicles parked at the same residence on Dale Road near Port Hope.

The suspect (s) took a wallet that contained a driver’s licence, two bank cards, two Visa cards, Social Insurance Number card, health cards, two children’s health cards and some change. (It is unknown if anything from the second vehicle was taken at time of this release, but two vehicles were entered.) The wallet was eventually located further down the road from the home by the owner, but unfortunately it was empty.

The process of replacing these personal identification items is quite difficult. Culprits will use items such as these later in cases of committing identity theft which has long lasting consequences for victims. A simple, yet quick action of locking a vehicle and securing any property out of view can prevent these types of events from happening.

Again, OPP want to remind residents that a professional can steal your vehicle in just less than 30 seconds. A vehicle unlocked or an open window is an easy target. Protect your vehicle and property from theft. ALWAYS roll up your windows, lock the doors and pocket the keys when you park your car. Never leave valuables in plain view.

HIGHWAY 17 CLOSED AT JACKFISH RIVER BRIDGE – Fuel and Wildlife Warning

(SUPERIOR EAST, ON) – The Ministry of Transportation advises the motoring public that Highway 17 is fully closed at Jackfish River Bridge, which is currently under construction. This bridge is located on Highway 17, approximately 13 kilometers east of Nipigon.

Motorists may utilize Highway 11 and Highway 631 as an alternate route between Nipigon and White River. The duration of the closure is unknown at this time.

OPP warn to use caution when travelling in these remote areas especially during the evening and night time hours. Wildlife is the cause of numerous collisions and driving the posted speed limit will ensure that drivers have enough time to react.

When travelling the secondary highways ensure that your vehicle is fueled up. Fueling stations a few and far between in this area. After 9:00 pm there is no fuel available between White River and Nipigon on Highway 631 and 11.

On June 24th, 2014 at 3:05 p.m. members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service and Kitchener Fire Department responded to Clark Avenue in the City of Kitchener to reports of a fire. Two single detached homes and four motor vehicles sustained extensive damage, estimated at approximately $600,000 in total. Both homes were evacuated and no injuries resulted from the fire. Cause of the fire is still undetermined and under investigation by Kitchener Fire Department.

ROBBERY

On the 24th of June 2014 at approximately 12:00pm a 15 year old male was robbed of his cellular telephone at the Fairview Park Mall located at 3050 Kingsway Drive in Kitchener. The victim was approached by a group of males and assaulted. During the assault the victim had his cellular telephone taken. A 19 year old Kitchener male was arrested at the scene and two 17 year old Kitchener males were located and arrested a short time later. This was not a random incident. The adult was held for a bail hearing in Kitchener Court on June 25, 2014. All parties are facing robbery and assault charges.

On June 24, 2014 Waterloo Regional Police arrested 35 year old Kitchener male. He has been charged with two break and enter commit and breach of his probation. These incidents took place on January 13, 2014 and February 2, 2014 at Woodside National Historic site. During one incident a signed stamp collection belonging to the late Prime Minister William Lyon MacKenzie King was stolen. Half of the stamps were recovered shortly after the incident but the other half is still outstanding. These stamps belong to the museum and are unable to be replaced. SUSPICIOUS PERSON – Photo Released – Night Prowler

Waterloo Regional Police are currently investigating incidents of suspicious activity in the vicinity of Westmount Road and Alexandra Avenue in Waterloo. Since April 2014, police have received several reports of nighttime prowling, trespassing and someone looking through windows inside residences.

No one has reported any injuries. Police would like to remind residents to take normal precautions such as locking ground floor windows and doors, closing blinds and curtains at night, using exterior lighting, and reporting any suspicious activity to police by calling 9-1-1. At this time, investigators believe that the same male may be responsible and are releasing the attached image along with an appeal to the public for any information that will help identify him. Theft from cars

Overnight on June 24, 2014 the Guelph Police received seven reports from Guelph residents reporting thefts from their cars. The locations were Gordon Street, Valleyridge Trail, Glasgow Street South, Flanders Road, Ottawa Crescent, Bonar Place and Laurine Avenue.

During the morning of June 24, 2014 the Guelph Police were called to check Edinburgh Road South at 11:10 a.m., after two males were seen trying cars. Both males were located but there was no evidence of theft.

Then at 11:41p.m., Guelph Police were called after three males were seen going through cars in the area of Whetstone Crescent. They were located on Summerfield Drive. Three 16-year-old Guelph males were taken home to one of their parents, no charges were laid.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars and by keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle. Shoplifter

On June 24, 2014 at 4:23 p.m., the Guelph Police went to the area of Edinburgh Road South after Stone Road Mall security advised they were chasing a male that had shoplifted from one of their stores. The male was last seen entering the bush area off Edinburgh Road towards College Avenue. A search was conducted but the male was not located.

He is described as white, in his 30’s, bald, has a bump on his left shoulder and tattoos on his left shoulder. He was wearing a grey muscle shirt, black shorts, a baseball cap, had a red watch on his left wrist and an anklet on his right ankle.

Collision investigation

On June 23, 2014, at 5:19 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a three-car collision at the intersection of Edinburgh Road South and Wilsonview Avenue. The two drivers were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Man arrested for Impaired Driving (Chatham)

The Chatham Kent Police were called by a concerned citizen who witnessed a vehicle driving erratically on Queens line near Chatham. Police located the vehicle and identified the driver, a 50 year old man from Windsor. The driver was arrested and transported to police headquarters.

The driver was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, exceeding 80 mg blood alcohol content and liquor licence act offences. The driver was later released with a future court date.

Drug Seizure (near Thamesville)

On the 24th of June 2014 at around 5:30pm Chatham Kent Police received information about several marijuana plants growing on a property just west of Thamesville. The plants were located a seized by police.

Man arrested for bail violations (Wallaceburg)

On Tuesday night around 11:00 p.m. Chatham Kent Police conducted some compliance checks on persons who are charged and on court imposed conditions. A 44 year old male from Wallaceburg was checked and found not to be complying with a curfew condition. The male was located a short time later in the Wallaceburg area and arrested.

The male now faces a charge of Breach of Recognizance and was released with a future court date.

Student Team On Patrol (S.T.O.P.) Student

The Owen Sound Police Service has a requirement for a S.T.O.P. Student to work alongside the Community Services Officer in a fulltime capacity for an 8-week period during July and August, 2014. The student will gain experience in various aspects of Policing and be responsible for project development, implementation, administrative functions and supervision over another student program.

To be considered for this position the applicant must be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment; have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year; be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident legally entitled to work in Canada; demonstrate initiative and leadership skills; possess a valid class “G2” (have held G2 for longer than 6 months) or a G”” driver’s licence; be of good moral character and habits; and have no criminal convictions for which a pardon has not been granted.

Breach of Recognizance

Date: Tuesday, June 24, 2014 – 9:00pm
In June of 2003, a 31 year old male was charged with Break and enter and failing to comply with probation in Marathon, Ontario. The male was subsequently released on a recognizance with conditions and a date to return to court. The male failed to re-attend for his court date and Police in Marathon, Ontario put a warrant out for his arrest.

On the 24th of June 2014 at approximately 9pm, police responded to a 911 call of a male and female involved in a verbal domestic dispute. Upon police arrival, officers spoke to a male who had been drinking and advised he was in an argument with his wife and 911 was called.

When police conducted their investigation they discovered that the now 42 year old male was the same male from 2003 that failed to attend court in Marathon. Officers contacted the police from near Thunder Bay and they advised they were not in a position to return. Updated information of the male’s address was provided for future investigation.

As a result of the male failing to deal with the charges from 11 years ago he was still bound by various conditions. One of the conditions was that the male abstain from the consumption of alcohol. He was subsequently arrested and held pending a bail hearing.

B&E – Caught in Action

On Sunday, June 22, 2014, the London Police Service received a 911 call at 3:27 a.m. after hearing someone on the main floor of a student residence, located on Western Road.

Officers arrived at the address at approximately 3:30 a.m. and found two 21-year-old males attempting to back out of the lane way in the caller’s vehicle. The two men were arrested and the vehicle, as well as property in the vehicle that was taken from the home, were recovered.

As a result of the investigation, Noah Hamblin of London and Anthony Bernhardt of no fixed address, have been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada charges:
– Break and enter, contrary to section 348(1)(b);
– Auto theft, contrary to section 333.1(1)(a); and
– Possession of property obtained by crime, contrary to section 354(1).

Noah Hamblin has further been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada charges:
– Impaired operation of a motor vehicle, contrary to section 253(1)(a);
– Fail to submit to drug evaluation, contrary to section 254(5); and
– Breach of recognizance, contrary to section 145(3).

Anthony Bernhardt has further been charged with the following charges:
– Possession of a Schedule II substance, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; and
– Breach of undertaking, contrary to section 145(5.1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

It is suggested that students close and lock all windows when no one is home; ensure all occupants have a key to the residence; and keep exterior doors locked at all times. Citizens are encouraged to report all suspicious activity to police by calling 519-661-5670; or in the case of an emergency, dial 911.
