Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating the theft of the Elgin OPP Police Boat from Stan’s Marina in Port Stanley, ON. earlier this morning at approximately 2:45am. The vessel was taken from its normal parking slip at Stan’s Marina and driven about 1km out to Port Stanley Harbour on Lake Erie where the boat was set on fire near the West break wall. The 24 foot Sea Swirl Inboard Outboard Police boat was completely destroyed by the fire and its replacement value is estimated at approximately $85 000. Firefighting efforts by Central Elgin Fire were made difficult because of the boats location and access to the area.

Police are continuing to investigate and the Ontario Fire Marshalls Office will be attending.

A temporary replacement police boat is currently being arranged from OPP Headquarters in Orillia.

“In reality an act such as this really jeopardizes the safety of the boating public. It hampers our ability to respond to marine emergencies in a timely fashion out on Lake Erie. Elgin County OPP’s lone vessel was responsible for marine safety, security and rescue operations between Port Glasgow and Port Burwell which is about 70km of shoreline and extends out to the U.S./Canada border on Lake Erie. Normally there are Auxiliary Coast Guard Units based in Port Stanley and Port Burwell, however this boating season that is not the case which leaves the Elgin OPP Marine responsible for all marine emergencies and searches in the area. The nearest Auxiliary Coast Guard Unit would be dispatched out of Long Point area in Norfolk County. Central Elgin Fire has a small vessel which is currently out of service however they are limited to a 1km range from Shore. This is a senseless act which risks the safety of the public and only harms the tax payer.” Stated Constable Troy Carlson – Elgin County OPP Marine Unit Co-coordinator.

Efforts to recover the destroyed vessel are currently in progress.

(CALEDON, ON)- On June 19, 2014 at 5:30 pm, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to an attempt break and enter on Tarquini Crescent in the Village of Bolton.

Investigation revealed that the attempt break in occurred sometime between 5:00 and 5:15 pm. Occupants reported that they heard a loud noise from the back of the residence and upon checking, discovered that the glass on the back door had been shattered. The occupants looked outside and observed a male running in the back of the property. The occupants went to the second floor and saw a black Ford Mustang leaving the driveway.

Police are reminding residents to contact the OPP Communications Centre immediately at 1-888-310-1122 to report any suspicious activity or suspicious vehicles in the area. Information such as suspect physical descriptions, suspect vehicles and direction of travel are useful tools for investigators.

(CALEDON, ON) – On June 19, 2014, Street Crime Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began an investigation into the sale of drugs in the Valleywood subdivision. On June 24, 2014, officers attended the area of Cliffview Court and located three young persons on the footpath. Officers immediately detected a strong odour of drugs, believed to be marijuana and further observed as the young persons completed a transaction. Subsequently, the youths were detained and a search of one of the young persons uncovered a quantity of drugs, believed to be marijuana and $3,180.00 in cash.

As a result, a 17 year-old male from Caledon was arrested and charged with Possession of a Schedule II substance, Trafficking a Schedule II substance and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

The Young Person was held in custody and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice later today.

His name is not being released due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

(Madoc Twp, ON) – On June 25, 2014 at 2:00 a.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P responded to a missing person complaint on Jarvis Road in Madoc Township after 54 year old Sandra TAMM failed to return home after walking her dog earlier in the evening.

Officers from Central Hastings O.P.P, East Region Emergency Response Team and Canine were involved in searching for her.

At 10:15 a.m. Sandra TAMM was located, uninjured.

(COLLINGWOOD, ONTARIO) Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have received several calls for mischief in the last weeks in regards to graffiti on area buildings, public property and private residences.

In total, police have received at least 12 calls for such incidents in Collingwood and officers would like to remind residents of the importance of calling police to report such mischief as police keep photo records of the graffiti for further investigation.

Once reported to police, it is imperative that the graffiti be removed/painted over immediately as it is key to break the cycle. If left, the graffiti vandals assume that their tags will stay up as long the next time, which is why they will return to the same site. When the vandals realize their graffiti will not stay up, they become discouraged from further tagging.

(Mulmur, ON) – On June 20, 2014, at 2:51 pm An officer from the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting speed enforcement in the Township of Mulmur. The officer observed a 2001 Chevrolet Corvette and a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro travelling northbound racing with each other on Airport road at 15th side road in Mulmur Township. The vehicles were travelling at a high rate of speed and he determined that the drivers were operating the vehicles at 146 km/hr. in a 80 km/hr. zone.

As a result of the traffic stop, 17 year old male of Tottenham,Ontario and 20 year old from Mississauga were charged with Race a Motor Vehicle.

The vehicles was impounded for seven days as a result of the stunt driving charge.

The drivers are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville at a later date.

(CALEDON, ON) – On June 21, 2014 shortly before 3:50 am, an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol in the area of Airport Road and Castlederg Side Road. The officer observed a black BMW travelling at a high rate of speed westbound on Castlederg Side Road. As the officer caught up to the vehicle, he observed the driver make an abrupt turn onto Airport Road. The officer noted that the driver was driving erratically, swerving from the fog line to the center line of the roadway and continued at a high rate of speed. The officer activated the emergency equipment and the driver was stopped at the intersection of Airport Road and Old Church Road. Upon speaking with the male driver, the officer immediately detected a strong odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to Detachment to determine the level of blood alcohol in his system.

Ruban Singh DHALIWAL, 23, of Caledon was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Over 80 and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

The Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on July 17, 2014.

Sometime between June 12th and June 21st, suspect(s) attended the unoccupied property and stole a beige Audi A6 that was parked in the driveway, a hot-tub, a blue Argo All-Terrain vehicle parked on the front lawn and two freezers from the basement.

Investigation revealed that the property was monitored by a property management company who attended the residence on a bi-weekly basis to conduct a check. Witnesses reported seeing three men on the property shortly after June 12th and were observed loading the hot-tub on a trailer.

(COLLINGWOOD, ONTARIO) Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are asking for the public’s help in solving a theft incident in the Town of Collingwood.

The theft took place at a residence on Cedar Street sometime Monday morning, the 23rd of June 2014 where culprit(s) stole a bag of assorted tools and a laser level located on the front porch. The laser level is described as Laser Alignment LB100 with a serial number of 491037681.

(COLLINGWOOD, ONTARIO) Police have now located the stolen 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe which was taken from a residence on Minnesota Street yesterday. The vehicle was found on Shore Lane in Wasaga Beach thanks to a resident who was aware of the incident through media coverage and called police after observing it in the neighbourhood.

(Selwyn Township, ON) -On Tuesday June 24, 2014, a 15 year old youth who had previously been reported missing by Peterborough County OPP after having run away on June 10th from a residence on Lindsay Road, was located was located by Peel Regional Police in the City of Brampton.

The youth was found in good health, and his disappearance was determined to be a result of his own volition.

The youth is currently being held in custody in Brampton on unrelated criminal charges.

The OPP would like to thank members of the public for the assistance they provided that resulted in the safe conclusion to this investigation.
