OPP Demand Access To Security Cameras Of All Private Citizens & Businesses In Goderich

(GODERICH, ON) – Members of theHuron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) partnered with staff from the Municipal office in Goderich on Friday, April 19th, 2024, to meet with business owners and community members on the Square in Goderich. 

The joint initiative was created to provide an opportunity to meet with business owners and community members to address their concerns and answer questions.

The OPP was on hand to discuss the “CAMSAFE” program which encourages businesses and homeowners to register their video surveillance systems which may assist police investigators in the event of a crime.

20 Year Old Arrested – Name Released

(STRATHROY-CARADOC, ON) – Alert Middlesex County OPP Officer, while on general patrol locates impaired driver.

On March 31, 2024, at 1:25 a.m., a member of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), while on general patrol, observed a suspicious vehicle travelling on Muncey Road in the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc.

A traffic stop was initiated.

It was determined the driver had previously consumed alcohol. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to the Middlesex OPP detachment where further tests were administered.

As a result, Amelia ELIJAH, a 20-year-old of Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation, has been charged under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act, Liquor Licence Control Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Drive motor vehicle – no licence

·      Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

·      Use plate not authorized for vehicle

·      Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

·      Fail to surrender insurance card

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on May 28, 2024.

The Middlesex OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority immediately.

Another Anonymous Spouse Beater Caught & Released

(HURON-KINLOSS TWP, ON) – On March 9, 2024, the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an address in Huron-Kinloss Township and initiated an intimate partner violence investigation.

As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old resident of Huron-Kinloss Township has been charged with the following Criminal Code offence:

–      Spousal Assault

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton at a later date. 

The OPP will not release names to protect the identity of the victims.

Repeat Offender Arrested Again

(HURON KINLOSSS-, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a driver who was driving in a suspicious manner.

On February 23, 2024, at 12:55 a.m., the South Bruce OPP were on general patrol and observed a motor vehicle driving much slower than the posted speed limit. The vehicle then left the roadway and parked on the shoulder of the road. Officers spoke to the driver who was displaying signs of impairment. The police had the driver submit to a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST). The driver was arrested and transported to the South Bruce OPP Detachment for further tests by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE)

Ryan Mclean, 39-years-old of Goderich was charged with:

·      Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Traffick in Schedule I Substance – Cocaine

·      Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on April 3, 2024.

Fatal Collision On 86

(ASHFIELD COLBORNE WAWANOSH TOWNSHIP, ON) – A two-vehicle motor vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle and a pickup truck and trailer combination has claimed two lives. 

Just before 08:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20th, 2024, members from Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), South Bruce OPP, Huron County and Bruce County Paramedic Services, and Lucknow Fire Department responded to a location East of Lucknow on Amberley Road, also known as Bruce Road 86 in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township after receiving a 9-1-1 call about a collision.

Upon arrival, emergency services located both heavily damaged vehicles and discovered that the driver of the passenger vehicle sustained fatal injury and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in the pickup truck was also pronounced deceased at the scene. A second passenger in the pickup truck received serious injury and was flown by air ambulance to London for further treatment. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to a local hospital for minor injury.

Members from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team attended the scene to assist with the collision investigation. Amberley Road was closed for several hours and has since been re-opened.

The investigation is ongoing, and the cause of the collision is being investigated. 

The deceased driver was a 54-year-old Huron-Kinloss Township resident.

The deceased passenger was a 49-year-old Municipality of Brockton resident. 

The ages of the second involved driver and passenger are 49 and 39 years-of-age respectively.

25 Year Old From Chesley Arrested

(SOUTHGATE, ON) – On February 17, 2024, at 2:10 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to Southgate Sideroad 41 in the Municipality of Southgate for a report of an altercation in a vehicle, and the passenger was kicked out of the vehicle.

The OPP attended and spoke to the driver of the vehicle who confirmed that a physical altercation took place therefore the passenger was kicked out. No injuries were reported. As police were speaking to the driver, they were displaying signs of impairment. The driver provided a sample of breath into an Approved Screening Device (ASD) which registered a fail. The driver was transported to the OPP Detachment in Teviotdale for further testing.

Melissa Grimes, 25-year-old from Chesley was charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on March 7, 2024.

KING Arrested Again

(MEAFORD, ON) – On February 14th, 2024, at 1:38 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a suspicious person that resulted in an individual being taken into custody.

On February 14, 2024, at 1:38 a.m., around Russett Drive and Union Street in Meaford, a resident reported that an individual knocked on their door and left which appeared suspicious for the time of day. A description of the individual was provided to police. While the police were patrolling for the individual, police located a black Toyota Highlander parked in the same area of the suspicious person and the vehicle was blocking two other vehicles. A short while later an individual matching the description of the suspicious person was observed driving the Toyota Highlander. Police contacted the registered owner of the Toyota Highlander and found out that it was stolen through the overnight hours.

Police initiated a traffic stop. As a result, James King, 49-years-old of no fixed address was charged with:

·      Possession Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 X2

·      Theft of Motor Vehicle

·      Fail to Comply with Probation Order X2

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

51 Year Old From ACW Arrested

(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township (ACW) resident with an Impaired Driving offence following a traffic stop on Sunday, February 11th, 2024. 

On February 11th, just before 1:00 a.m., a Huron County OPP officer conducted a traffic stop of a pickup truck on Bayfield Main Street, in the Municipality of Bluewater, Bayfield.

Police spoke to the driver and determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol prior to driving. A demand was made by police for a sample of the driver’s breath into the roadside screening device, which resulted in a failure. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and taken into custody. The driver was transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton for further breath tests with an OPP qualified breath technician.

Joy BOWMAN, 51 years of age from ACW Township has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 4th, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

31 Year Old Arrested – Cocaine A Factor

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a South Huron resident with Impaired Operation and a drug possession offence after police checked a parked vehicle in South Huron, Exeter on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024. 

Huron OPP officers were patrolling in the Municipality of South Huron at approximately 3:30 a.m. on February 3rd. Officers located a person seated in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that was parked on Main Street South. Police spoke to the driver who displayed signs of impairment. Officers had reason to believe that the driver was impaired by drug, and they were subsequently arrested.

The accused was then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment in Clinton for further tests by an OPP Drug Recognition Expert (D.R.E.). During processing, police located a quantity of a suspected controlled substance (cocaine) on the accused’.

Scott OUNSAMONE, 31 years-of-age from South Huron has been charged with the following offences:

–      Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs,

–      Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.

The accused was processed, then later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on March 4th, 2024.

The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and taken into custody. –      Operation while Impaired – Over 80.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

29 Year Old Arrested

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Huron East resident with an Impaired Driving offence following a traffic stop just before midnight on Wednesday January 31st, 2024. 

On January 31st, just prior to midnight, Huron County OPP officers observed a vehicle exit a business in the Municipality of Huron East, Seaforth. The officer observed an orange pilon being dragged under a wheel of the vehicle. The vehicle continued eastbound on Goderich Street East and was stopped by police.

Police spoke to the driver and determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol prior to driving. A demand was made by police for a sample of the driver’s breath into the roadside screening device, which resulted in a failure. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and taken into custody. The driver was transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton for further breath tests with an OPP qualified breath technician.

Jacob ASHBY, 29 years of age from Huron East has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for March 4th, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

42 Year Old From Municipality/Corporation Of Brockton Arrested

(WALKERTON, ON) – On February 5, 2023, at 10:59 p.m., a South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol stopped a vehicle along McNab Street in Walkerton.

The driver was found to have been drinking alcohol.

They were placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified Intoxilizer Technician for breath tests.

Jammie WALKER, 42-years-old, from the Municipality of Brockton was charged with:

  • Operate over 80 milligrams

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on March 20, 2024, to answer to the charges.

An impaired driving charge includes an immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension and an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment.

Repeat Offender Arrested Again – PORTER

(HURON EAST, ON) – An investigation conducted by the Huron County Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) and members of the Huron OPP detachment resulted in the arrest of a wanted individual and seizure of illegal drugs, and offence-related property with a total value exceeding $3,700.

On Thursday, February 1st, 2024, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a wanted individual was observed on foot in the Municipality of Huron East, Vanastra. Police arrested the wanted male and a subsequent search of the accused revealed suspected fentanyl and other items commonly used in drug trafficking including a digital scale, packaging material, and a cellular phone.

The estimated value of the seized drugs is $3.485.

The combined estimated value of the seized property is $300.

Cameron PORTER, 29 years of age from Huron East has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid,
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order – (two counts).

The accused was processed, held for a bail hearing, then later remanded into custody with a court appearance scheduled in the Goderich Ontario Court of Justice.

Two Found Dead – Names Released

(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Elgin County (St. Thomas) Detachment have identified the two deceased individuals from an ongoing death investigation in the Municipality of Central Elgin.

On January 31, 2024, shortly after 8:00 a.m., emergency services, including members of the Elgin County OPP, responded to a residence on Roberts Line after the discovery of two deceased individuals.

The individuals are now identified as 38-year-old Tanya WIEBE of the Township of Malahide and 34-year-old Kyle SAVAGE of the Municipality of Central Elgin.

The Elgin County OPP Crime Unit continues the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP West Region Criminal Operations and OPP Forensic Identification Services, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

27 Year Old Arrested For Drunk Driving


(HURON EAST, ON) – 
Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Central Huron resident with an Impaired Driving offence following a single motor vehicle collision into a farm field on the early evening hours of Tuesday January 30th, 2024. 

On January 30th, just after 9:30 p.m., Huron County OPP officers responded to a report of a vehicle with damage in a farm field located on Morrison Line near Short Horn Road in the Municipality of Huron East.

Police attended the scene shortly after and spoke to the driver. Police determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol prior to driving. A demand was made by police for a sample of the driver’s breath into the roadside screening device, which resulted in a failure. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and taken into custody. The driver was transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton for further breath tests with an OPP qualified breath technician.

MacKenzie ELSON, 27 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for February 26th, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
