More Charges In Stabbing Investigation

A Guelph woman faces assault and robbery charges following an ongoing investigation into a stabbing earlier this month at a north-end apartment.

The evening of August 5, a group of people were inside an apartment near Woolwich Street and Speedvale Avenue when an argument broke out between two men who had not met before. The argument became physical and one of the men sustained an injury to his leg.

A man in his 40s was transported to hospital for treatment.

The suspect fled the unit but was later located in the area with assistance from a Waterloo Regional Police Service canine unit. The knife was also recovered after being thrown into a neighbouring yard. Investigation revealed the man is on probation with terms including not to attend the address where the assault occurred, not to have contact with a woman who was also present and not to possess weapons.

A 24-year-old Guelph man was earlier charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and five counts of breaching probation orders.

Following the original investigation, a 21-year-old Guelph woman was arrested for failing to comply with a bail order and breaching a conditional sentence. As a result of the ongoing investigation, she has also now been charged with being a party to aggravated assault, robbery and mischief to data.

Both accused remain in custody.

14 Year Old Arrested Following Stabbing

(SOUTH DUNDAS, ON) – One person has been charged following a serious assault in South Dundas Township.

Officers with the Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a field adjacent to Van Allen Road shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025.

It had been reported that a male had been assaulted with an edged weapon.

When officers arrived, they found that a 37-year-old man had suffered stab wounds. He was transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation by front-line officers and the SD&G OPP Crime Unit a 14-year-old male has been charged with:

·        Assault causing bodily harm

·        Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

·        Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose

·        Assault

The name of the accused cannot be released under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

There was no risk to public safety, and the victim was known to the accused.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall.

Stabbing Update – 3rd Person Arrested

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On May 12, 2025, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a third person pertaining to the altercation in Elliot Lake.

On May 9, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m. police were called to assist paramedics with a male in medical distress in a wooded area between Tokyo Crescent and Paris Drive.  The male was transported to hospital with knife wounds and remains in stable condition. An altercation took place at a Tokyo Crescent residence between numerous people which later resulted in one of the males being assaulted with a knife. 

On May 11, 2025, two people were arrested and charged with aggravated assault.  

On May 12, 2025, police located and arrested the third person involved.

Michael PREVOST, 35-years-old, of Elliot Lake, was also charged with – Aggravated Assault.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on May 13, 2025.

2 Arrested Following Stabbing

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On May 11, 2025, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested two people after an altercation in Elliot Lake.

Jordan VINTINNER, 35-years-old, of Elliot Lake, was charged with – Aggravated assault.

William VINTINNER, 34-years-old, of Elliot Lake, was charged with – Aggravated assault.

The accused persons are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on May 12, 2025. 

The OPP’s Forensic Identification Service (FIS), Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT) and East Algoma Crime Unit continue the investigation.

Stabbing Near School: One Arrested

(Webequie, ON) – Police arrested a male following a stabbing incident in Webequie First Nation earlier this week.  

Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service working out of the Webequie First Nation detachment were dispatched to an area near the community’s school in the afternoon hours of Tuesday, Feb. 18 following reports of a disturbance possibly involving weapons.

When police arrived at the scene, they learned a stabbing incident had allegedly occurred and that a victim had been transported to the nursing station for further evaluation and treatment of injuries they sustained.

The exact extent of the victim’s injuries is unknown, but are believed to be serious but non-life threatening.

As a result of continued investigation, police identified a male suspect.

The suspect turned himself in to police in the afternoon hours of Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Kurtis Shawn Ernest SHEWAYBICK, 31, of Webequie First Nation, is charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

He appeared in bail court on Thursday, Feb. 20 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.

14 Year Old Arrested After Stabbing

A 14-year-old male is facing charges after a stabbing in Oshawa.

On Friday, February 14, 2025, at approximately 10:40 p.m., members of Central East Division responded to a stabbing in the area of Rideau Street and Saguenay Avenue. A male and female were in the backyard of a residence when the homeowner confronted them. The owner chased the pair at which point the male stabbed him. The victim suffered a stab wound to the upper arm and attended a local hospital with serious injuries.

The male suspect was located in the area and arrested.

A 14-year-old male from Oshawa is charged with: Assault with a Weapon and Assault Cause Bodily Harm.

He was released on an Undertaking.

Victim Stabbed And Residence Set On Fire

The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of an arrest made in an Arson and Aggravated Assault investigation.

On Friday, January 10, 2025 at approximately 11:20 a.m. police responded to a call to a fire in the Sherbourne Street and Shuter Street area.

It is alleged that:

  • an altercation took place between a woman and the victim
  • the woman stabbed the victim and set fire to a residence
  • the victim was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries
  • the woman was arrested a short time later

Nakitha Smith, 29, of Toronto has been arrested and charged with:

  1. Aggravated Assault
  2. two counts of Arson 

She is scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, at 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Saturday, January 11, 2024, at 10 a.m., in room 107.

Mall Stabbing Involving Children

On Saturday December 28, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m. Kingston Police responded to the report of a stabbing at the bus transfer area outside of the Cataraqui Town Centre located at 945 Gardiners Road.

A subsequent investigation determined that one victim had been assaulted by three suspects, and that one of these suspects used a large knife to stab the victim in the upper body. Following the assault the three suspects fled the scene on foot.

The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. 

As a result of the investigation conducted by members of the Kingston Police Criminal Investigation Division and with help from the public, three youths have been arrested and charged with offences ranging from assault, aggravated assault, possession of weapon dangerous to the public peace and uttering threats to cause death.
 
On Monday December 30, 2024, one of the youths was arrested at the Cataraqui Town Centre and transported to Kingston Police headquarters. Later in the evening on the same date, another of the youth accused parties turned themselves in to the front desk at Kingston Police headquarters. These two parties were held for a bail hearing on Tuesday December 31, 2024, where they were both placed on release orders with a future court date.
 
On Tuesday December 31, 2024, at approximately 12:00 p.m. members of the Kingston Police Special Services Unit arrested the third youth accused at a west-end residence after a brief foot pursuit. The youth was subsequently transported to Kingston Police headquarters where they attended a bail hearing on January 1, 2025, and were subsequently remanded into custody.

Police Seeking Suspects Beaverton Stabbing

Police are looking for a number of suspects after a stabbing in Beaverton.

On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at approximately 4:50 a.m., members of North Division responded to the area of Park Avenue and Osborne Street for a stabbing. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male victim suffering from stab wounds. The victim was approached by the suspects near Mill Street and Bay Street. After a brief interaction, the victim was stabbed.  

The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with video footage, including dashcam and home surveillance, to please contact police.

Violent Stabbing – Suspects At Large

On December 25 at 1:45 am Sarnia police were called to the area of Wiltshire Drive and Murphy Rd in the City of Sarnia for a report of an injured male.  Police located a 30-year-old male with multiple lacerations and with significant blood loss.  Officers provided emergency first aid while waiting for the ambulance to arrive, applying a pressure dressing to a leg wound.  He was transported to hospital. 

After attending to the victim’s injuries, police located and secured the scene. 

Investigation revealed that the victim had been walking through Wiltshire Park (near the Howard Watson Trail) when he was attacked by two unknown males.  The victim was struck and stabbed multiple times before being robbed of multiple personal items. 

At hospital, the victim was determined to have non-life threatening injuries.  This included a major laceration on his thigh and left shoulder. There were also minor lacerations on his arm, the top of his head, his face, and defensive wounds on his hands.

As a result of evidence obtained, police believe that one of the suspects may also have sustained injuries.

Youth Suspect Arrested and Charged in Oakville Stabbing

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has made an arrest and laid charges after a stabbing in Oakville.

On December 14, 2024, at approximately 4:30 pm police were called to Memorial Park on Oak Park Boulevard for a report of a stabbing. A 13-year-old male of Oakville was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released from hospital. 

The suspect was located and arrested by the HRPS on December 15 in Oakville. The accused and victim were known to one another and had arranged to fight in the park.

A 15-year-old male of Oakville has been charged with Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

Another Stabbing – Guelph Epicenter Of Lawlessness

A Guelph man was arrested after another man was stabbed twice Thursday night.

Just after 11 p.m. police were called for reports of an injured male on Gordon Street near Nottingham Street. As officers arrived they spotted the suspect standing a short distance away. He was arrested following a short foot pursuit and a folding knife was found in his jacket pocket.

Investigation revealed the two males are known to each other and had been involved in a verbal altercation downtown earlier in the day.

The victim sustained injuries to his chest and abdomen. He was transported to a Hamilton trauma centre for treatment of serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A 28-year-old Guelph man is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and three counts of breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.

Another NFA Arrested – Stabbing

A male is in custody and a second male is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in Oshawa.

On Thursday, March 28, 2024, at approximately 11:20 p.m., members from Central East Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Simcoe Street South and Bagot Street in Oshawa.  Officers arrived on the scene and located a male suffering from a stab wound.  He was transferred to a Toronto-area trauma centre in a non-life-threatening condition.  Officers on the scene were able to quickly identify a suspect and took him into custody nearby.

Ryley WHALEN, age 22 No Fixed Address is charged with Aggravated AssaultPossession of Weapon for Committing an Offence and Assault with a Weapon.

He was held for Bail Hearing.

UPDATE: Victim Stabbed By Three People

The suspect in a stabbing investigation is in custody following a simultaneous drug investigation that resulted in the seizure of numerous drugs and an automatic firearm.

On Friday, October 13, 2023, at approximately 1:20 p.m., members of Central West Division responded to an unknown trouble call in the area of Garden Street and Taunton Road East, in Whitby. The victim was assaulted and stabbed by three suspects. All suspects fled the area prior to police arrival. The victim was located with life-threatening injuries and transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where his condition was upgraded to stable.

On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, members of the Central West Division Community Response Unit, with assistance from Central West Division officers, initiated a traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle and took him into custody without incident. Search warrants at the suspect’s residence and vehicle resulted in the seizure of numerous drugs, cash and a loaded automatic firearm, which was concealed in the vent of the vehicle. The suspect was further linked to the Whitby stabbing and charged.

Eric MCEWAN, age 30 from Whitby is charged with numerous offences including: Robbery, Assault Cause Bodily Harm, Assault with a Weapon, Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x4, Possess Loaded Restricted/Prohibited Firearm, Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm, Possession of a Restricted/Prohibited Firearm Knowingly Not Holding a Licence, and Possession Contrary to Order x2.

He was held for a bail hearing.

Stabbing – 4 Arrested, ADAMS, MCGIVERN, SHAFFER, CHARLEBOIS

(PEMBROKE, ON) – The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment has charged four people after an assault in downtown Pembroke.

Officers were called to Pembroke Street West around 9:00 p.m. on March 12, 2024, where they located a 25-year-old male with a stab wound and other minor injuries. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment of the non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation, four people have been arrested.

Richard ADAMS, age 38 of Laurentian Valley Township has been charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Forcible confinement
  • Failure to comply with a prohibition order

Meryl MCGIVERN, age 37 of Pembroke has been charged with:

  • Assault
  • Forcible confinement
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

Jaclyn SHAFFER, age 43 of Killaloe has been charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle

Jade CHARLEBOIS, age 25 of Laurentian Valley Township has been charged with assault with a weapon.

All four accused have been released and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 15, 2024.
