Racer BRASON Was Arrested

(BRUCE MINES, ON)- Police received a traffic complaint of a three-wheeler with three people on it driving erratically on Crawford Street.

On June 7, 2024, shortly after 11:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) patrolled the area for the All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) in the Town of Bruce Mines.

Police observed the three-wheeler ATV with a driver and two passengers backing out of a local restaurant parking lot and initiated a traffic stop. While speaking to the driver police determined alcohol had been consumed and the driver was arrested. The accused was then transported to Blind River detachment for further testing.

As a result, Racer BRASON, 18 years-of-age from Richards Landing was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on July 4, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension.

Impaired Driver Closes 401

(TORONTO, ON) – Members of the Toronto Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid multiple Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act charges against a commercial motor vehicle driver who was involved in a collision and impaired by alcohol.

On June 9, 2024 at approximately 6:46 a.m., Toronto OPP officers responded to a single vehicle collision involving a commercial motor vehicle on Highway 401 eastbound, east of Bayview Avenue. A witness reported seeing the tractor trailer swerve across all lanes, strike the concrete median and then jackknife across all lanes. As a result of the collision the highway was closed for approximately 11 hours due to the investigation and clean-up.

Shubham GHAI, a 28-year-old male from Calgary, Alberta is charged with the following offences:

1)   Impaired operation – alcohol and drugs

2)   Possession of a schedule 1 substance – opioid

3)   Failure or refusal to comply with a demand

4)   Drive commercial motor vehicle in contravention of conditions

5)   Fail to surrender insurance card

The accused was held for a bail and remanded into custody.

Wanda WELLINGS – Impaired Driving

(UNINCORPORATED TERRITORY, ON) – Police arrested and charged the driver with impaired driving charges after investigating a single motor vehicle collision.

On June 6, 2024, shortly after 9:00 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 144, Unincorporated Territory, north of the City of Greater Sudbury.

No injuries were reported, but as a result of the investigation, the driver, Wanda WELLINGS, 61 years-of -age, from Caledonia was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Dangerous operation

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 26, 2024, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

4 More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(PETAWAWA, ON) – Four drivers are facing Criminal Code (CC) impaired driving charges after members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recently investigated four separate incidents.

On June 1, 2024, at approximately 12:20 a.m., police responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in Petawawa. Police located the vehicle a short time later and a traffic stop was conducted on Civic Centre Road in Petawawa. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized, and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.   

As a result of this incident 23-year-old Zachary OKEEFE of Denwood, Alberta, is charged with the following CC offences:

•             Operation while impaired – alcohol

•             Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus

The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on July 22, 2024.

On June 2, 2024, at approximately 3:15 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop in Pembroke on Isabella Street. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized, and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.   

As a result of this incident Andrew MACDONALD, age 31 of Pembroke, is charged with the following CC offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code

The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on July 16, 2024. 

Later, on June 2, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m. police responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in the Pembroke area. Police located the vehicle on Traxton Way in Laurentian Valley Township (LVTP) and a traffic stop was conducted. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized, and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. 

As a result of this incident David Andrew FAIRWEATHER, age 58 of LVTP, is charged with the following CC and Liquor License Control Act (LLCA) offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor

The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on July 15, 2024. 

On June 4, 2024, at approximately 7:00 a.m., police responded to a single-vehicle collision on Albert Street in Petawawa after a vehicle left the roadway and struck a hedge. The driver, who was not injured, was transported to the detachment for further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer.  

As a result of this incident Luke George VERCH, age 23 of LVTP, is charged with the following CC offence:

·        Operation while impaired – drugs

The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on July 9, 2024.

The accused individuals had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicles were towed and impounded.

Maxwell WANJIRU Was Arrested

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired operation following a traffic stop.

On June 1, 2024, just before 7:00 a.m., an officer was patrolling on Kennedy Road, near Twistleton Street, in the Town of Caledon. The manner in which the vehicle was being operated led to a traffic stop. During the investigation, grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operation a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

Maxwell WANJIRU, 23, of North York, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

• Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on June 20, 2024, to answer to the charges.

If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.

Mark MYCHAJLUK Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual is facing charges following an investigation into an incident of impaired driving in Simcoe.

At approximately 4:37 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding a suspected impaired driver on Colborne Street North in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

After locating the vehicle at an address on Colborne Street North and conducting a sobriety assessment, officers took the driver into custody without incident.

During a search of the driver and the vehicle, officers discovered and seized a quantity of suspected cocaine.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 34-year-old Mark MYCHAJLUK of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance – cocaine.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

Derek LAVIGUEUR Was Arrested

(LITTLE CURRENT, ON) – One person has been arrested and charged following a traffic complaint.

On June 4, 2024, shortly before 1:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 6. The vehicle was traveling southbound towards Little Current and unable to maintain its lane.

Police located the vehicle on Meredith Street and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine the driver was impaired. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Derek LAVIGUEUR, 44-years-old from Sudbury has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on July 2, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Troy Wright Was Arrested

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – One individual is facing charges after the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle hauling a trailer with no lights on.

On May 31, 2024, at 9:32 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general patrol on Grey Road 13 in Grey Highlands when they observed a motor vehicle hauling a trailer and the trailer had no lights on. The officer conducted a traffic stop. As police were speaking to the driver, the driver was displaying signs of impairment. The driver provided a sample of breath into an Approved Screening Device (ASD) which registered a fail. The driver was transported to the Grey Bruce OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Troy Wright, 27-year-old from Grey Highlands was charged with the following:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      No red light on rear of trailer

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on June 27, 2024.

Tarsem PADDA – Impaired Driving

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired operation by drugs.

On May 29, 2024, shortly before 9:00 p.m., Caledon OPP responded to a traffic complaint in the area of Airport Road and Mayfield Road, in the Town of Caledon. Officers located the vehicle. During the investigation, grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs.

As a result, Tarsem PADDA, 36, of no fixed address, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on June 18, 2024, to answer to the charge.

Whether a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, impaired is impaired, and impaired driving is dangerous regardless of the source of impairment. If you suspect a driver has consumed drugs and/or alcohol, please call 911 immediately. The phone call may save a life.

Robert THOMPSON Arrested

(KINCARDINE, ON) – On May 17, 2024, at 9:07 p.m., a South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol stopped a vehicle in the Municipality of Kincardine.

The driver was found to have been drinking alcohol. They were placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified Breath Technician for breath tests where they refused to provide samples of their breath.

Robert THOMPSON, 53-years-old, from the Municipality of Kincardine was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Failure to comply with a demand

Camilla BOTTLE – Impaired Driving

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – The Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid impaired by drug charges following a traffic complaint.

On May 8, 2024, at approximately 2:45 p.m., members of the Sioux Lookout OPP Detachment responded to a traffic complaint at a business on Alcona Drive in the Municipality of Sioux Lookout. Officers attended the location and located the vehicle.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Sioux Lookout OPP Detachment for further testing.   

As a result, Camilla BOTTLE, 38-years-old, of Sioux Lookout, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with Operation While Impaired – Blood Drug Concentration.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout at a later date.

David TREGASKISS Was Arrested

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – A person was charged after police attended Warsaw Place with Algoma Paramedic Services.

On May 6, 2024, at approximately 5:15 p.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to a Warsaw Place apartment complex in relation to an impaired driver.  The complainants reported a male in a grey Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) had fallen after exiting his vehicle in the main parking lot and paramedics were currently treating him for minor injuries. Police spoke to the driver who exhibited obvious signs of impairment by alcohol. He was subsequently arrested and charged.    

David TREGASKISS, 77-years-old, from Elliot Lake was charged with – Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on June 13, 2024.

Clinton HUNTER Was Arrested

(RED LAKE, ON) – A traffic complaint of a suspected impaired driver has led to one individual being arrested and charged with impaired operation and flight from police.

On May 5, 2024, just before 10:00 a.m., members of the Red Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a suspected impaired all-terrain vehicle (ATV) driver on Suffel Lake Road within the Municipality of Red Lake. Officers located the ATV and attempted to initiate a traffic stop; however, the driver fled from police.

A short time later, officers located the individual and subsequently placed them under arrest.

As a result, Clinton HUNTER, 30-years-old, of Red Lake, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act, and Off-Road Vehicle Act with:

·        Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·        Operation While Prohibited

·        Flight From Peace Officer

·        Fail to Stop for Police

·        Fail to Stop – Flashing Red Light

·        Fail to Identify Self

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Red Lake on July 18, 2024.

Marcel LAFONTAINE Was Arrested

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – An officer-initiated traffic stop led to the driver being charged for several criminal offences.

On April 27, 2024, shortly after 11:00 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was observed swerving on Riverside Drive in Kapuskasing.

Police spoke to the driver and determined that they had been consuming an intoxicating substance.  The driver was arrested and a search incident to arrest revealed the driver to be in possession of a substance suspected to be cocaine. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen, and the driver’s licence was suspended under the criminal code. The driver was transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Marcel LAFONTAINE, 48 years of age of Hearst, was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Take motor vehicle without consent
  • Operation while prohibited under the criminal code – two counts
  • Driving while under suspension (HTA)

The accused remains in custody and is next scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 13, 2024 in Kapuskasing.

Brian WESLEY Was Arrested

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – A traffic stop in Kapuskasing led to an arrest for driving while impaired by a drug.

On April 16, 2024, shortly before 6:00 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Byng Avenue in Kapuskasing. 

Upon speaking with the driver, police determined that the driver had been consuming an intoxicating substance, and the driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Brian WESLEY, 56 years of age of Hearst, was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – methamphetamine
  • Fail to comply with probation order

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 13, 2024, in Kapuskasing. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
