Anmol SANGHERA – Drunk Driving

(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County stopped and investigated a vehicle after a Good Samaritan reported a suspected impaired driver.

On November 26, 2022, at approximately 2:12 p.m., an officer of the Elgin County OPP located the vehicle on Carlow Road, Municipality of Central Elgin.

As a result of the investigation, Elgin County OPP has charged Anmol SANGHERA, 26-year-old of Kitchener, Ontario with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas at a later date.

The OPP would like to take this opportunity to thank the Good Samaritan who contacted police and reported this incident. As a direct result of their phone call, officers were able to safely stop the vehicle and take the driver into custody.

Homicide Investigation

(BRANT COUNTY, ON) – Investigators have determined a death at a Salt Springs Church Road address is the result of homicide.

The investigation began on November 24, 2022, at approximately 1:30 p.m., after Brant County Detachment members attended an address on Salt Springs Church Road to investigate a report of a deceased individual. 

There will be an increased police presence in this area and a section of Salt Springs Church Road remains closed. Please avoid the area.

The investigation remains ongoing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and in partnership with the Brant OPP Crime Unit, the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services.

Town Staff Allegedly Assaulted – 70 Year Old Arrested

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a resident of Goderich with Assault. 

On Thursday, November 24, 2022, Huron County OPP was contacted to investigate a report of an assault. Investigating officers learned that employees with the town of Goderich were conducting annual tree trimming at Sunset Park located on Essex Street in Goderich. A nearby resident began yelling at the workers which resulted in another staff member attending to mediate the situation. At approximately 2:40 p.m. during discussions with the individual, the accused allegedly assaulted one of the employees.

As a result of the investigation, Huron County OPP has arrested and charged 70-year-old Gordon GARLAND from Goderich with one count of assault. The accused has been released with a court date in January 2023.

Robert RAPELJE Arrested Again

(ARRAN TOWNSHIP, ON) – An investigation was launched several months ago regarding suspected criminal activity at an identified property on Concession 4 in Arran Township. Significant OPP resources were utilized to conduct a thorough investigation on this property and any persons associated to it.

On November 15, 2022, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU), OPP West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), OPP Canine and South Bruce OPP executed a search warrant at a property along Concession 4 in Arran Township. 

As a result of the continuing investigation, a third person has been arrested.

Robert RAPELJE, 21-years-old, of Arran-Elderslie Township was charged with:

  • Possession of a Weapon contrary to a Prohibition Order
  • Participation in a Criminal Organization
  • Alter/Destroy/Remove a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
  • 7 counts of Possession of Property obtained by Crime over $5,000
  • 7 counts of Possession of Property obtained by Crime under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order

The accused will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton to answer to the charges.

DYER Arrested Again

(FERGUS, ON) – On November 21, 2022, the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police received information regarding an individual who was possibly breaching a probation order. 

Officers located the subject of the complaint on Strathallan Street, Fregus, and subsequently placed them under arrest.  As a result of the investigation, Shawn Irwin Barret DYER, 33 years-old of Chesley, has been charged with three counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order, Failure to Comply with Undertaking and Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice, Guelph, at a later date.

Police Seeking Dash Cam Footage Regarding Lucknow Collision

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers continue to investigate a serious two-vehicle head-on motor vehicle collision that took place on November 15, south of Lucknow.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on November 15, 2022, Huron County OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and the South Bruce Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) on Lucknow Line just South of Lucknow.

Upon arrival, first responders located two heavily damaged vehicles. The drivers were both transported to hospital and one of the drivers has sustained serious injuries.   

Police are seeking any dash-cam footage or residential video surveillance that may assist in the investigation.

Hero Takes Keys From Impaired Suspended Driver – Christopher DERBYSHIRE Arrested

(SOUTHGATE, ON) On November 20, 2022, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of a suspected impaired driver at a business located on Main Street East in the Township of Southgate.

Police arrived on scene and discovered that the accused had displayed a weapon after a member of the public had taken their keys away.  

Christopher DERBYSHIRE, 52 years-of-age from Melancthon Township was placed under arrest and is facing the following charges:

·        Assault with a weapon

·        Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

·        Failure or refusal to comply with demand

·        Operation while impaired

·        Driving while under suspension

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound at a later date.

$30,000 in Tools Stolen

(LUCAN BIDDULPH, ON) – On November 19, 2022, at 11:22 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were dispatched to an address on Alice Street in Lucan, Lucan Biddulph, for the report of a theft of tools from a trailer.

It was determined an unknown individual(s) gained entry to a work trailer parked on the roadway in front of a residence.

An older model pickup truck was observed fleeing the area.

Approximately $30,000 worth of tools were stolen.

The investigation is continuing.

The OPP are asking members of the public who may have observed the vehicle or who may have video surveillance to call 1-888-310-1122.

Chadwick MCKEOWN – Drunk Driving

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – On November 19, 2022, at 1:42 a.m., a member of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), while on general patrol, was following a possible impaired driver on Glendon Drive in Middlesex Centre.

A traffic stop was initiated.

As a result, Chadwick MCKEOWN, a 37-year-old of Strathroy, has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:

·      Operation while impaired – Alcohol

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges at a later date.

The Middlesex OPP wants to remind the public that if you see anything suspicious or suspect an impaired driver you should contact the Ontario Provincial Police or your nearest police authority immediately.

Bus Driver Continues With 5 Year Old Caught In Doors

(BRANT COUNTY, ON) – One person is facing charges following an investigation where a bus was driven a short distance with a child caught in its doors.

On Tuesday November 1, 2022, at approximately 3:56 p.m., Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a police assist call in Mount Pleasant, Brant County.

It was determined a five-year-old child was attempting to get off a school bus when the doors closed, trapping part of the child’s body. The bus travelled 15-20 feet with the child’s legs dangling outside the bus before it stopped. It was reported the child suffered minor injuries.

A 64-year-old from Brant County was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for Careless Driving.

Kubota Stolen From Near Lucknow

(ASHFIELD COLBORNE WAWANOSH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are investigating the theft of a Suzuki All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and a Kubota Skid Steer from a business located on Amberley Road West of Lucknow.

On November 19, 2022, Huron OPP officers received a report that the two machines were stolen at approximately 1:33 p.m. after reviewing video surveillance. Three suspects were observed exiting a black Dodge pickup truck which had a tandem axle landscape style trailer attached. The suspects caused substantial damage to the business property while stealing the machines which were loaded onto the trailer.

The orange Kubota skid steer is a model# ISSV65P with vehicle identification number (VIN) #12630.

The 2016 Suzuki King quad 750 is red in colour and has VIN# 5SAAR41P1G7103025.

Further investigation revealed that after the theft, the suspects attended a parking lot at the South end of Wingham.

Jeremy WELSH Arrested For Theft

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – One person was charged after stealing some lottery tickets from a local business.

On November 15, 2022, just after 12:00 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a reported theft from a business located on Main Street in the Municipality of North Perth.

The accused was identified through surveillance.

As a result, Jeremy WELSH, 24-year-old from Atwood was arrested and charged with:

–      Theft Under $5000 – Shoplifting

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Another Meth Bust – RAPELJE & MCNICOL

(ARRAN TOWNSHIP, ON) – An investigation was launched several months ago regarding suspected criminal activity at an identified property on Concession 4 in Arran Township. Significant OPP resources were utilized to conduct a thorough investigation on this property and any persons associated to it.

On November 15, 2022, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU), OPP West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), OPP Canine and South Bruce OPP executed a search warrant at a property along Concession 4 in Arran Township. 

As a result of the execution of the warrant, police seized a large quantity of Methamphetamine. The estimated street value of the seized controlled substance is $11,140.

Police also seized a large quantity of stolen property. The list of recovered items includes: a Ford F150 pick-up truck, a Dodge Ram pick-up truck, a Dodge Charger, a Ski-Doo GSX snowmobile, 2 Polaris snowmobiles, a Honda TRX All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), a Triton snowmobile trailer, a Stihl concrete saw, a Rolair air compressor, 9 Rifles, 2 Shotguns, a Crossbow with night vision scope, 2 antique pistols, 2 pellet rifles and a large quantity of ammunition. The value of the recovered stolen property is estimated to be more than $89,700.

Birgit RAPELJE, 53-years-old, of Arran-Elderslie Township, is in custody pending the results of a show cause hearing and charged with:

  • Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • 11 counts of Knowledge of Possession of a Firearm while prohibited
  • 3 counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm
  • Participating in a Criminal Organization
  • Altering/Destroying/Removing a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
  • 2 counts of Disobey a Court Order
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • 7 counts of Possessing Property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • 7 counts of Possessing Property obtained by crime under $5,000

Joseph MCNICOL, 48-years-old, of Arran-Elderslie Township, is in custody pending the results of a show cause hearing and charged with:

  • Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • 11 counts of Knowledge of Possession of a Firearm while prohibited
  • 3 counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm
  • Participating in a Criminal Organization
  • Altering/Destroying/Removing a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
  • 2 counts of Breach a Weapons Prohibition
  • 7 counts of Possessing Property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • 7 counts of Possessing Property obtained by crime under $5,000

The investigation is continuing.

52 Year Old From Atwood Arrested – WEISS

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – One person was charged after stealing a generator from a local business.

On November 14, 2022, just before 9:30 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a reported theft from a business located on Bassett Avenue in the Municipality of North Perth.

The accused was located nearby with the stolen generator.

As a result, Burton WEISS, 52-year-old from Atwood was arrested and charged with:

–      Theft Over $5000

–      Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 – in Canada

–      Possession Break In Instruments

–      Mischief Under $5000

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.

Repeat Offender Arrested Again – Assault, Forcible Confinement, etc.

(PERTH EAST, ON) – On November 15, 2022, at approximately 10:07 a.m., The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance at a residence on Pacific Avenue in the Township of Perth East.

As a result of the investigation, Alexander OSTROM, a 31-year-old resident from Perth East was charged with:

– Assault with A Weapon

– Forcible Confinement

– Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

– Fail to Comply with Probation Order

– Assault a Peace Officer

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
