Barricaded Person In Vanastra

(HURON EAST, ON) – Members of the Huron County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), K-9, and West Region Mobile Support Unit are currently on scene of a barricaded person incident in the village of Vanastra.

This evening at approximately 7:25 p.m. OPP officers responded to a disturbance taking place at a townhouse building located on St. Charles Place. 

At this time there is no threat to public safety, however, Huron County OPP is asking the public to avoid the area until the situation is resolved.

This is an ongoing investigation and further information will be provided as it becomes available.

Davin ALEXANDER – Drunk Driving

(BRUCE TWP, ON) – On November 13, 2022, at 12:08 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a vehicle in the ditch along Bruce County Road 1 in Bruce Township. Officers located the vehicle and found that the driver had been drinking alcohol. 

The accused was arrested and taken to the police detachment for testing with a Qualified Intoxilizer Technician. 

Davin ALEXANDER, 34-years-old, of Greenock Township was charged with Impaired Driving and Operate over 80 milligrams. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton to answer to the charges.

This charge includes an immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension and an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment.

Repeat Offender Charged After Weapons Incident At School

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) -Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in relation to a November 11, 2022, weapons incident in Fergus. A 16-year-old resident from Fergus was charged with two counts of Assault with a Weapon and Fail to Comply with Sentence Order, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was held for bail.

On the afternoon of November 11, 2022, OPP responded to weapons call in Fergus. It was reported that at young person had a weapon in the proximity of a school.

The incident is considered isolated, and no persons were physically injured.

Fatal Farm Incident

(PERTH EAST, ON) – One person has died as a result of a farm-related incident.  

On November 10, 2022, just before 5:00 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County Paramedic Services and Perth East Fire Department responded to a report of an incident involving a farm tractor at an address on Perth Line 43 in the Township of Perth East.

It was determined that an individual was working on a tractor when another tractor rolled back against the other. As a result, an 88-year-old male suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.

The Perth County OPP are continuing to investigate the incident. The ministry of Labour was also notified.

27 Year Old Arrested For Drunk Driving

(HURON EAST, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Huron East resident with Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) following a failed roadside test on November 11th at approximately 10:32 p.m. on Brandon Road, near Ethel. 

At approximately 10:20 p.m. a Huron County OPP officer was patrolling Eastbound on Brandon Road when they observed a Westbound Chevrolet Cruze fail to make a complete stop at Ethel Line, then turn Southbound. A traffic stop was initiated which led to the investigating officer conducting a roadside screening device test on the driver. The roadside breath test resulted in a failure and the driver was placed under arrest and taken into custody. 

The accused was then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for further breath tests. Two samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilyzer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit. 

Justin SCHOTT, 27 years of age from Huron East has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), as well as two offences under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for December 19, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Head On Collision Near Lucknow

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers remain at the scene of a serious two-vehicle head-on motor vehicle collision that took place this evening south of Lucknow.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on November 15, 2022, Huron County OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and the South Bruce Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) on Lucknow Line just South of Lucknow.

Upon arrival, first responders located two heavily damaged vehicles with one occupant each. The drivers were both transported to hospital and one of the drivers has sustained life-threatening injuries.   

Members from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team are now on scene assisting with the collision investigation. 

Lucknow Line is currently closed between Zion Road and Canning Street.

Officer Assaulted – Jonathon WILLIAMSON Arrested

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) On November 13, 2022, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of an assault on John Street in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

Officers arrived on scene and an individual was placed under arrest. During the arrest, the accused began to resist causing minor injuries to an officer. The officer was treated at a local area hospital and released.

The accused was subsequently transported to the Wiarton OPP station. During the lodging process, the accused again became uncooperative and attempted to take a weapon from an officer’s duty belt.

Jonathon WILLIAMSON, 34 years-of-age, from the Town of South Bruce Peninsula is charged with the following offences:

·        Break, enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence

·        Assault

·        Disarming a peace officer

·        Assault with the intent to resist arrest

The accused is being held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on November 14, 2022.

$100,000+ Stolen During Break And Enter

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) major crime unit, Huron-Perth Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU), and West Region Forensic Identifications Unit (FIS) are actively investigating an overnight break, enter and theft that took place in Goderich.

Sometime between November 11th and November 12th unknown suspect(s) forced entry into a residence located on Blake Street in Goderich while the homeowner was away. Once inside the residence, the suspect(s) stole a large quantity of Canadian currency totalling more than $100,000. The denominations of the cash were mainly $100 and $50 bills.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance should they observe suspicious activity involving large Canadian bills.

Aaron MAIORANA Arrested

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a South Huron resident with Impaired Operation – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) following a failed roadside test on November 05 at approximately 2:07 p.m. on London Road. 

At approximately 2:07 p.m. a Huron County OPP officer was patrolling Southbound on London Road when they observed a pickup truck swerve into the same lane as the officer, almost causing a head-on collision. The officer observed the driver holding a hand-held communication device while driving. A traffic stop was initiated, and it led to the investigating officer conducting a roadside screening device test on the driver. The roadside breath test resulted in a failure and the driver was placed under arrest and taken into custody. 

The accused was then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for further breath tests. Two samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit. 

Aaron MAIORANA, 24 years of age from South Huron has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), as well as offences under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Liquor License Control Act (LLCA), and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA).

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for December 19, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Another Meth Bust – Matthew HALLMAN Arrested

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers investigated two smash and grabs that took place this past weekend in Goderich.

On November 5, 2022, at approximately 10:49 p.m. forced entry was made to a business located on Huron Road in Goderich. Upon arrival, officers found a smashed main entrance glass door and discovered that cigarettes, cigars, drinks and candy had been stolen from the business. 

Officers reviewed the video surveillance and were able to identify the suspect who was located and arrested on November 6, at 09:12 a.m.

Matthew HALLMAN, 46 years of age of no fixed address was charged with the following offences:

  • Break and Enter
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking

The accused was held for a bail hearing and was later released from custody the same day with a later court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

On November 6, 2022, at approximately 11:50 p.m. forced entry was made to a business located on Bayfield Road in Goderich. Police were dispatched and arrived on scene discovering the main entrance glass door had been smashed and that cigarettes, drinks, candy, and a wireless speaker had been stolen from the business. A review of the video surveillance was conducted which showed the lone suspect to be Matthew HALLMAN, 46 years of age who had been released from police custody earlier on this date. HALLMAN was wearing the same clothing as he was upon his release.

Matthew HALLMAN, 46 years of age of no fixed address was eventually located on November 7, 2022, in the town of Goderich. HALLMAN was arrested and further charged with the following offences:

  •   Break and Enter
  •   Theft Under $5,000

Upon HALLMAN’s arrest, a search was conducted which yielded illegal substances. Further charges were laid as follows:

  •   Possession of Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
  •   Possession of Schedule I Substance – Opioid

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is currently in custody.

Assault In Mount Forest – COTE Arrested

(MOUNT FOREST, ON) – On November 6, 2022, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an assault in progress.

It was reported that the victim was being assaulted by an unknown person in a parking lot on Sligo Road West, Mount Forest. The victim was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Officers were able to locate and arrest the person involved.    

As a result of the investigation, Raymond Lloyd COTE, 31-years-old of Mount Forest has been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm and Resist Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice, Guelph, at a later date.

Michael FARRUGIA – Flight From Police

(PERTH EAST, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Stratford driver with stunt driving after failing to stop for police.

On October 29, 2022, just after 10:00 p.m., an officer on general patrol attempted to stop a vehicle on Line 34 in the Township of Perth East, after it was found to be travelling 124 km/h in an 80 km/h limit zone.

As a result, Michael FARRUGIA, a 21-year-old resident of Stratford has been charged with:

–      Flight from peace officer

–      Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt

A 30-day driving suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Casey DOWHAN – Drunk Driving, Etc.

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – Another driver charged with an impaired related offence in the Municipality of North Perth.

On November 8, 2022, at approximately 1:22 a.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on general patrol when they observed a vehicle to have difficulty maintaining it’s lane and speeds were below the speed limit.

During the investigation, it became apparent the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to a local operations centre for further testing.

Casey DOWHAN, 22, of Windsor, has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

–      Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

–      Use plate not authorized for vehicle

–      Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

–      Driver while under suspension

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Joe PIKULA Arrested Following Collision

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for impaired related offences in the Municipality of North Perth.  

On November 7, 2022, at approximately 12:14 p.m., Perth County OPP officers received a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Monument Road in North Perth.  Perth OPP received a second call that the vehicle had now been involved in a collision on Main Street North in North Perth. No injuries were reported.

During the investigation, officers determined the driver was impaired. The driver was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further testing

As a result, Joe PIKULA, 44, of Brantford, has been arrested and charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

–      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Pervert Alert – Christian SAMULAK Arrested

(ERIN, ON) – On November 1, 2022, at approximately 1:00 a.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police were called to investigate an indecent act on Sideroad 5, Erin.

It was reported that a person standing in the street had committed an indecent act. Officers attended and located the person. As a result of the investigation, 19-year-old Christian SAMULAK of Erin has been charged with Indecent Act contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph, at a later date.
