TRACTOR AND BACKHOE STOLEN FROM GARDEN CENTRE

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Saturday, May 31, 2014 at approximately 8:41 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break-in to a commercial business located in Ceylon, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

Sometime between 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30th and 8:00 a.m. May 31st, unknown person(s) forcibly entered the fenced compound at the rear of Sahara Garden Centre located on Grey Rd. 4, Ceylon.

A blue, 2003 New Holland tractor, Model TC 33D, with an attached front bucket and a rear mounted black, 7’ Wallenstein backhoe, Model 750 was stolen from the compound.

The total value of the equipment is valued at $33,000.

DRIVER OVER THE LEGAL LIMIT AT RIDE PROGRAM

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On June 3, 2014, just after 10:00 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program at Highway 40 and Creek Road, when a Ford van entered and stopped for the officers.

While officers were speaking with the driver, 52 year old David BULLER, from Chatham, it was determined that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

Subsequent tests indicated that he was over the legal limit and will appear in a Chatham court on July 4, 2014, to answer to the following charges:

Driving With More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood, under the Criminal Code of Canada

Driving Motor Vehicle With Liquor Readily Available, under the Liquor Licence Act

Chatham-Kent OPP would like to remind drivers that there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption when driving. If you consume alcoholic beverages, plan for a safe ride home by using a designated driver, a taxi or public transit to ensure that you and others sharing the road arrive safely.

UNLOCKED VEHICLES BECOMING A TARGET AGAIN

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) Over the past 2 weeks Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have investigated numerous thefts from motor vehicles in different locations in Huntsville. In most of the complaints it was found that the vehicles have been left unlocked with personal items being left inside, including wallets that contained cash and identification.

Huntsville OPP would like to remind members of the community to take all of their valuables out of their vehicles, park it in a well-lit area and lock the doors.

OPP INVESTIGATING INCIDENT

(NAPANEE, ON) – The Napanee Crime Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are presently investigating a report of an attempted assault. On Sunday night, June 1, 2014 just before midnight, an adult female attended the Napanee Fairgrounds to sleep in one of the dugouts. Once there, she advises she was approached by an unknown male who attempted to assault her.

The victim advised investigators that she was able to flee without harm.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who was in or near the fairgrounds between 11:30 pm and 3:00 am that night, or that may have information about this incident. There is no description of the man.

MARIHUANA SEIZED FROM VEHICLE

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – A recent vehicle stop conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has resulted in a small quantity of marihuana being seized and charges being laid.

On June 4, 2014 officers were on patrol in the Fenelon Falls area and approached a vehicle in the parking lot of the local beach. While speaking with the four occupants the officers determined that marihuana was present in the vehicle.

After investigation, Robert BAIRD, 18 years of age, of Lindsay, was arrested and charged with possession of marihuana, under 30 grams, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. 8.6 grams of marihuana was seized from the accused.

Further investigation resulted in additional criminal charges and the accused will appear for a bail hearing today in Lindsay.

FIREARMS TAKEN AT A BREAK AND ENTER

(LAKE OF BAYS, ON) On Sunday June 1, 2014 Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was made aware of a break and enter that had taken place on Highway #117 near Dorset Ontario.

Sometime between May 19, 2014 and June 1, 2014 unknown culprits broke out a window, cut into the wall underneath and entered the house. Once inside the culprits managed to remove a flat screen TV, a bag of battery operated tools and a safe containing several firearms. A list of guns that were stolen includes:

Winchester shot gun

Winchester 9410,

Ruger Falling Block,

Ruger revolver British Small Arms,

2 Anschutz, Thompson Centre Pro-Hunter,

Marlin 4570,

Bond Arms Snake Slayer IV,

Stevens 22 Hornet,

American Classic 22 Government semi-automatic,

Baretta semi-automatic,

Taurus PT1911AR semi-automatic

2 Taurus revolvers.

Any firearm in the hands of an untrained person is always a concern but when this many firearms are stolen it causes a greater concern for police and for public safety.

KINGSVILLE MAN CHARGED

(LAKESHORE, ON) -A Kingsville man has been charged after an investigation involving three different victims throughout Kingsville.

Richard LALIBERTE, age 45, has been charged with Theft Under $5000 x 2 and Break and Enter.

Investigation revealed that he stole property including a pool pump, a computer and a trailer hitch, from three different residences in and around Kingsville. The one theft dates back to November 2013.

He will appear in a Windsor court on July 16, 2014.

LEAMINGTON MAN CHARGED WITH DRUG OFFENCES

(LEAMINGTON, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Leamington conducted a vehicle stop on Sunday night resulting in several charges against a Leamington man.

Officers stopped a truck on Wigle Street in Leamington at approximately 1:00 a.m. on June 1, 2014. Officers discovered a quantity of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) and marihuana valued at $4100 as well as $3000 cash.

Christopher ARRUDA, age 28 of Leamington, was arrested and has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He will appear in a Leamington court on July 31, 2014.

THEFT OF TRUCK IN FARADAY TOWNSHIP

(Bancroft, Ontario) – On Tuesday the 03rd of June 2014, the Bancroft detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of a vehicle theft on Paudash School Road in Faraday Township. Investigation revealed that sometime overnight a white Nissan pickup truck was stolen from a driveway.

TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – A local male had his driver’s licence suspended and vehicle towed after being stopped by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

On June 3, 2014 an OPP officer observed a vehicle travelling at 142 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Ski Hill Road near Bethany Hills Road. The officer subsequently stopped the vehicle and charged the driver with racing, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Cory ANCHOR, 34 years of age, had his driver’s licence immediately suspended and the vehicle was towed from the scene to be impounded for 7 days. The accused will appear in court, in Lindsay, on July 8, 2014.

BREAK AND ENTER

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – Quinte West OPP is currently investigating a break and enter on James St in Trenton.

On June 3rd, 2014 between 8:30am and 2:00pm unknown person(s) entered a home on James St in Trenton. When inside the suspects took a large quantity of electronics items including video game consoles.

SIOUX LOOKOUT MAN CHARGED WITH MISCHIEF

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) The Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Sioux Lookout man with mischief following a dispute on Front Street.

During the early morning hours of June 4, 2014, officers on patrol were alerted by staff at a licensed establishment that an intoxicated individual had been refused entry into the premises.

In response to being denied entry, the accused proceeded to purposely defecate on the sidewalk in front of the building.

Charged with mischief for interfering with the lawful use and enjoyment of property is 38 year old Carlos TUESDAY of Sioux Lookout. TUESDAY remains in custody for a bail hearing.

ODY DISCOVERED ALONG THE SHORE OF LAKE ERIE – PORT STANLEY

The body of a 65 year old London, ON man was discovered earlier this morning June 3, 2014 along the shore of Lake Erie just west of Little Beach, Port Stanley, ON.

A local resident out for a walk discovered the body lying on the rocky shore around 10:37am and immediately contacted police.

Police investigation indicated that the male had been fishing from the shoreline at that location at the time of his death. Police located fishing equipment and other personal effects nearby as well as the victim’s vehicle was found parked in a nearby lot. The victim was last seen by family at approximately 2pm on June 2nd, 2014.

Police do not suspect foul play and the investigation indicated that the body had not been in the water nor had it washed up on shore from another location.

Police have identified the deceased as Antonio ROMAO, age 65 from London. A post mortem examination is scheduled for Wednesday June 4, 2014 at University Hospital in London to determine a cause of death.

Police can confirm that his incident is not related to last week’s search for a possible missing person off the west break wall in Port Stanley.

OPP INVESTIGATE FOUND FINGER TIP IN ERIN

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) -On May 29, 2014 at approximately 1:46 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to found finger-tip at the Erin Fairgrounds near the Dundas Street entrance in the Town of Erin.

Police are looking to identify who the finger-tip belongs to.

THUNDER BAY OPP CHARGE IMPAIRED DRIVER

(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Tuesday, June 3 2014 at approximately 2:15 am, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol on Highway 11/17. The officers observed the driver of a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and conducted a traffic stop near Oliver Road.

Upon speaking with the driver, the officers detected an odour of alcohol emitting from the drivers breath. Further investigation revealed that the driver was over the legal limit.

Raphael CHICAGO, 19 years of age, from Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with Operate a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code.

He was also charged with Speeding and Young Driver have Blood Alcohol Content Above Zero contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

He is to appear in Provincial Court on August 26 2014 to answer to the charge.
