UPDATE – OPP INVESTIGATE FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

(ORO-MEDONTE TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police(OPP) are providing an update to the June 2nd 2014 Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision that occurred on the southbound lanes of Highway 11 in Oro-Medonte Twp.

Police can now confirm the identity of the deceased female driving her 2001 Nissan Sentra to be 26 year old Terri LUNN from Severn Twp, ON.

The OPP wish to thank motorists for their patience and understanding while this section of highway was closed overnight and also while lane restrictions remained in place while repairs were carried out.

Mathieu ROBITAILLE – Drunk Driving

(Hawkesbury, ON) – In the early morning of Monday June 2nd, shortly after midnight, Hawkesbury OPP Constable Jonathan Lacelle intercepted a 2012 Kia Sedona for failing to stop at the traffic lights at the John and Main Street intersection.

The traffic stop gave the officer reason to believe that the driver had consumed alcohol and that his blood alcohol concentration was above the permitted limit. The driver was consequently arrested for driving while having blood alcohol content above 80 mgs per 100ml of blood.

The investigation revealed that the driver was suspended from driving and that the plates did not belong to the stopped vehicle. Open available liquor was found available to both the driver and passenger. Both driver and passenger were found to be breaching court conditions.

Consequently, the driver Mathieu ROBITAILLE (21 yrs) of Grenville, QC was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:

– 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.
– 145(3) Fail to Comply with Recognizance (3 counts)
– 733.1(1) Fail to Comply with Probation Order (2 counts)
– 259(4) Driving while Disqualified

He was also charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with section 4(1) Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana – under 30grams

He was also charged under the Ontario Liquor Licence Act with section 32(1) Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor.

He was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for failing to stop at the red light and for using unauthorized plates.

The passenger, Dany MARCEAU (24 yrs) of St-André d’Argenteuil, QC was charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with section 4(1) Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana – under 30grams.

He was also charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with section 145(3) Fail to Comply with Recognizance (2 counts)

They are both scheduled to appear in court on June 18 in L’Orignal.

Sébastien CHÉNIER – Drunk Driving

(Hawkesbury, ON) – In the early morning of May 22nd, at approximately 1:15 am, Hawkesbury OPP Constable Marc Lauzon intercepted a 2009 Volkswagen Golf for a burnt tail light at Tupper Street.

The traffic stop gave the officer reason to believe that the driver had consumed alcohol and that his blood alcohol concentration was above the permitted limit. The driver was consequently arrested for driving while having blood alcohol content above 80 mgs per 100ml of blood.

The driver Sébastien CHÉNIER (19 yrs) of Alfred, ON was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with section 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.

Being a novice driver he was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with section 44.1(3) Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Content above zero.

He is to appear in court on June 11th in L’Orignal.

Mitchell Charles SHEPPARD – Drunk Driving

(Alfred-Plantagenet, ON) – In the early morning of May 25th, at approximately 3:45 am, Hawkesbury OPP Constable Maceus intercepted a 2001 green Subaru Legacy on Boundary while performing a RIDE initiative.

The traffic stop gave the officer reason to believe that the driver had consumed alcohol and that his blood alcohol concentration was above the permitted limit. The driver was consequently arrested for driving while having blood alcohol content above 80 mgs per 100ml of blood.

The driver Mitchell Charles SHEPPARD (19 yrs) of Clarence-Rockland, ON was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with section 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.

He is to appear in court on June 18th in L’Orignal.

STOLEN BELL FROM LAGGAN SCHOOL RECOVERED BY HAWKESBURY OPP

(Champlain, ON) – On Friday May 23rd, 2014, police were called to the scene of a stolen school bell that was found in Vankleek Hill. The bell had been reported as stolen the previous day at the Laggan School.

OPP Constables Robillard-Cardinal and Huygen responded to the incident.

Police officers were directed to a backyard of a County Road 34 residence in Vankleek Hill where the owner of the residence had found a large brass bell. The investigation revealed that the bell was indeed the one reported stolen the previous day from the Laggan School.

The matter is still under investigation. The bell was returned to the school.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED OVER 80

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Saturday, May 31, at approximately 1:44 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a 911 call from a motorist requesting directions to the Owen Sound Hospital. The driver indicated he was operating a 2014 Mazda vehicle.

Police met with the driver of the Mazda in the hospital parking lot. While his passenger proceeded to go inside the hospital, police spoke with the driver and found that he had been drinking alcohol. He was given a road side breath test and registered a “fail”. The driver was arrested and taken to the Chatsworth Detachment for further breath tests, which indicated he was operating the motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in his system.

Reid David MASNEY, 22, of Hamilton, Ontario was subsequently charged with over 80mg. He was given a ride back to the hospital where he was reunited with his passenger.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on Thursday, June 19, 2014.

IMPAIRED DRIVER STOPPED AT RIDE CHECK

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Sunday, June 1, 2014, members of Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Highway Safety Division – Mount Forest Traffic Management Unit, were conducting a R.I.D.E. spot check on the 8th Concession at MacDonald Rd. in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

At approximately 3:59 p.m., police checked a 1986 Chevrolet Caprice motor vehicle that had stopped and found that the driver had been drinking alcohol. After failing a road side breath test, the driver was arrested for operating a motor vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol in his system and brought to the Markdale Detachment for further breath tests. A bottle of alcohol was seized from under the driver’s seat.

Brent Lyn GRAY, 42, of Shelburne, Ontario was charged with impaired – over 80 milligrams. He was also charged with driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available under the Liquor Licence Act and fail to properly wear a seat belt under the Highway Traffic Act.

He is to appear in Court in Owen Sound on Thursday, June 26, 2014.

LAKESIDE BREAK AND ENTERS

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating several break and enters that occurred in the Lakeside Area in the last few days.

On Friday May 30, 2014 at around 8:00 am police received a report that a resident came home to find someone had forced entry into the residence overnight. The homeowner was not at home when the break in occurred. Nothing appeared stolen in the residence.

On Saturday, May 31 2014 at 2:40 am, police received a call that a male suspect had entered a residence in the Lakeside area. The resident woke up and confronted the suspect who fled the scene. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male with black curly hair.

Police are also investigating two break ins to garages in the Lakeside area. On Tuesday June 3, 2014 police received reports of two garages being entered on First Street South. The suspect entered through a window in one and an insecure door in the other. A GPS was stolen from one of the garages.

The investigations into the incidents are continuing.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO COCAINE SEIZURE

(PARRY SOUND, ON) – Officers with the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were patrolling Seguin Township on June 3, 2014 at 12:20 am when they observed a traffic violation and stopped a Dodge Avenger on Roberts Lake Road.

Police conducted a check of the male driver and female passenger and subsequent investigation revealed the driver was suspended from operating a motor vehicle.

The male was arrested and search incident to arrest where a kilogram of suspected cocaine was seized. The male party became assaultive and damaged the OPP cruiser. While the officers were engaged with the male, the female passenger grabbed the suspected cocaine and fled in the vehicle.

A suspect apprehensive pursuit ensued with the vehicle failing to stop for the police and a spike belt was deployed. The vehicle was safely stopped and the female was arrested and suspected drugs recovered. The OPP estimate the drugs value at approximately $50,000.

Imitation firearm – use while committing offence – s. 85(2)(a) Criminal Code of Canada;

Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose – s. 88 CC;

Mischief under $5000 – s. 430(4) CC;

Assault peace officer – s. 270(1)(a) CC;

Traffic in schedule I substance – cocaine – s. 5(1) Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA);

Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine – s. 5(2) CDSA;

Possession of schedule I substance – cocaine – s. 4(1) CDSA; and with

Drive while under suspension – s. 53(1) Highway Traffic Act;

Christine Ann MCCORMICK, 30, Thunder Bay is charged with:

Adult Flight while pursuant by Peace Officer-249.1(1) CC;
Dangerous operation of Motor Vehicle- 249 (1)(c) CC;
Traffic in schedule I substance – cocaine – s. 5(1) CDSA;

Possession of a schedule I substance for the purposes of trafficking – cocaine – s. 5(2) CDSA;
Possession of schedule I substance – cocaine – s. 4(1) CDSA;
Imitation firearm – use while committing offence – s. 85(2)(a) CC;
Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose – s. 88 CC; and with
Escape lawful custody – sec. 145(1)(a) CC

Both were held for bail and will appear in a Parry Sound Ontario Court of Justice today.

KEYS FOUND NEAR LAKESIDE PARK in AMHERSTVIEW

(Amherstview On,) On the 02nd of June 2014 at 3:21 pm a construction worker found a set of keys at 4575 Hwy 33 Loyalist Parkway by the Arches beside the Lakeside Park in Amherstview. The keys were turned into the Loyalist Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.

There are number of keys as well as Key Fob(s) on the key ring. A female did call the Loyalist Detachment to inquire if any keys had been found. Unfortunately the keys had not been turned into the OPP at that time.

MAN CHARGED AFTER ASSAULTING ROOMMATE

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Sunday, June 1, 2014 at approximately 10:39 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an assault at the Keady Trailer Park on Grey Rd. 16 in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

The accused assaulted his roommate after learning that he had been evicted from the residence. The 27 year old male victim, who suffered minor injuries as a result of being pushed and punched by the accused, was examined by Grey County Emergency Services (EMS) who had attended the scene.

Bartley BERTRUM, 33, of Georgian Bluffs, was charged with assault. He is scheduled to appear in Court in Owen Sound on Thursday, June 26, 2014.

VEHICLE ROLLOVER RESULTS IN CARELESS DRIVING CHARGE

(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Sunday, June 1, 2014 at approximately 9:45 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle rollover on Hwy. 10 near Road 190 in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

A 2003 Honda vehicle was travelling southbound on Hwy. 10 when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle rolled and came to rest in the west ditch. The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Michele BARRY, 50, of Mississauga, Ontario was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

DAMAGE TO VEHICLE LEADS TO CHARGES

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON.) – Members of the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a local man with Mischief Under $5,000, Trespassing at Night and Drive While Under Suspension. The charges stem from damage done to a vehicle a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. The car at the time of the incident was parked in the driveway of a residence located on Waite Avenue in Virginiatown, Ontario. The incident occurred at approximately 10:10 p.m. on June 2, 2014.

Charged is Miguel CHARBONNEAU age 28 of Virginiatown, Ontario. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on July 31, 2014.

BAIL VIOLATION

(South Glengarry) – On June 2nd, 2014 at approximately 12:45pm, an SD&G OPP officer had the occasion to conduct a traffic stop on Old Highway 2, South Glengarry Township. A check of the male driver indicated that he was in contravention of conditions imposed from previous incidents.

Casey FRAAS (19) of Lancaster, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;

– Fail to Comply with Conditions (3 counts)

He was held in custody pending a court appearance (bail) in Cornwall court.

DRUGS SEIZED

(South Glengarry) – On June 3rd, 2014 at approximately 5:45am, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a drug offence at the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) scales area on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township. Officers located and seized a small quantity of suspected marihuana and methamphetamine from the vehicle.

Robert PROVENCHER (60) of Compton, Quebec was arrested and is charged with;

– Possession of a Controlled Substance (2 counts)

He was released and schedule to appear in Alexandria court on August 6th, 2014.

(South Glengarry) – On June 3rd, 2014 at approximately 12:15pm, an OPP Highway Safety Division officer had the occasion to stop a commercial vehicle on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township. The stop resulted in a small quantity of cannabis resin (hash) seized from inside the vehicle. A further check of the male driver also indicated he was in contravention of a condition imposed from a previous incident.

Maninder SINGH (24) of Toronto, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;

– Possession of a Controlled Substance
– Fail to Comply with Conditions

He was released and scheduled to appear in Alexandria court on August 6th, 2014.
