CHARGES LAID IN BREAK AND ENTER INVESTIGATIONS

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – Officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Fort Frances OPP Crime Unit with the assistance of the OPP North West Region Canine Unit, Treaty Three Police Service and the Sioux Lookout OPP Detachment have laid several charges stemming from a wave of property crime occurring over the past year.

Between July 2013 and May 2014, several break and enters were committed within the Rainy River and Kenora Districts including the communities of Town of Emo, Rainy River First Nation, Chapple Township and Nester Falls Township.

As a result of this lengthy investigation, two adults have been arrested and charged with a number of criminal offences and remain in custody pending a bail hearing in Fort Frances Court on June 9, 2014.

Zachary Charles LEONARD, age 27 years of Rainy River First Nations has been charged with a total of 34 criminal offences including:

11 x Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
17 x Break and Enter
1 x Break and Enter to a Dwelling House
Mischief
False Pretences
2 x Theft of Mail
Disguise with Intent (Mask)

Furthermore, Lori TOM, age 32, of Kenora, ON was arrested and charged with a total of 17 criminal offences including:

6 x Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

3 x Forgery

3 x Use a Forged Document

3 x Break and Enter

Theft of Mail

Fail to Comply with Court Order

POLICE RESPOND TO SINGLE MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH ON QUEEN STREET

(NORTH MIDDLESEX, ON) – On Sunday, June 1, 2014 at 2:14 a.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the North Middlesex Fire Department and Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a single motor vehicle crash on Queen Street near West Corner Drive in North Middlesex, ON.

As a result of the crash, two occupants, a 16 year old male passenger and a 15 year old male driver, both from Michigan, U.S.A., were transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

The youths remain in hospital where the passenger is listed in fair condition and the driver is listed in critical condition. Their identities are being withheld at this time.

Members of the West Region OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation team (TTCI) were deployed to assist with the investigation.

A section of Queen Street between Elginfield Road and Maguire Road was closed but has since been reopened.

The investigation is continuing and further information will be provided when available.

TOOLS STOLEN FROM DIXIE ROAD PROPERTY

(CALEDON, ON)- On June 2nd, 2014, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a Dixie Road residence to investigate a theft of tools from a shop on the property. Sometime between May 12th and June 2nd, suspect(s) entered the shop through an unlocked door and stole a large quantity of tools including grinders, air guns and socket sets.

Police are reminding residents to contact the OPP Communications Centre immediately at 1-888-310-1122 to report any suspicious activity or suspicious vehicles in the area. Information such as suspect physical descriptions, suspect vehicles and direction of travel are useful tools for investigators.

COMPASSIONATE TO LOCATE

On the 3rd of June, 2014 uniform officers, including members of the Emergency Response Team and Detectives, were engaged in the search for a Kitchener male in the Southdale neighbourhood of Kitchener. The male was armed with a knife and made efforts to flee pursuing officers. The male was arrested at approximately 2:15 p.m. in the area of Ottawa Street and Kehl Street, Kitchener. The male has been charged with Weapons Dangerous and Mischief under $5000. Investigators with the Crime Management Team continue to investigate a series of residential break and enters in the area. OFFENSIVE WEAPON

On June 3rd 2014 at approximately 9:30 pm police responded to a report of a male waving around a large knife on Old Chicopee Drive in the city of Kitchener. The male was waving around a machete-like knife, and allegedly threatening and intimidating a party known to him. A 26 year old male was arrested and held for showcause hearing. The criminal charges are Weapons Dangerous, Intimidation, Criminal Harassment and Breach of Probation. There were no injuries.

Warrants executed – arrests made

On June 3, 2014, the Guelph Police Drug, Intelligence, Canine and Tactics and Rescue Units executed a Controlled Drugs and Substance warrant and a Criminal Code warrant at a residence on Eramosa Road. Six people were arrested. Two were later released without charges.

Drugs seized included personal use levels of Marihuana and Crystal Methamphetamine. Police also seized a prohibited weapon, and a replica firearm.

April Belcastro, 31 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. She will appear in court on July 18, 2014.

Amanda Randall, 28 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. She will appear in court on July 18, 2014.

Angela Wilson, 31 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. She will appear in court on July 18, 2014.

Ryan Watson, 39 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on July 18, 2014.

Cyclist struck

On June 3, 2014 at 9:32 a.m., the Guelph Police went to the area of 139 Grange Street to investigate a cyclist struck by a vehicle. The female cyclist received minor injuries and the driver was charged with turn not in safety under the Highway Traffic Act.

Theft from cars

Overnight the Guelph Police received three reports from Guelph residents reporting thefts from their cars. The locations were Ironwood Road, Pheasant Run and Elmira Road.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars and by keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle. Man Charged with Aggravated Assault

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a domestic incident last month in Chatham.

On May 23, 2014 around 11:30 p.m. a verbal argument began between the man and his common-law wife. The argument escalated into a physical altercation as the man assaulted the woman. The woman fled the residence with her young child.

The woman was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit with serious injuries. She has since been released.

Yesterday afternoon, police located the man and he was arrested. The 33-year-old Chatham man has been charged with aggravated assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police Looking for the Public’s Assistance

  • Sometime between June 2 at 10:30 p.m. and June 3 at 9:30 a.m. unknown suspect(s) entered a residence on Linden Street in Chatham. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a cell phone, wallet and cash.     – Sometime yesterday between 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. unknown suspect(s) entered a residence on Robertson Avenue in Chatham through an unlocked window.     – Sometime June 2 between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. unknown suspect(s) entered an apartment on Merritt Avenue in Chatham. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole clothing and cash. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Ken Morrell at 519-436-6600 extension #87272.

Motor Vehicle Collision in Wallaceburg

Around noon yesterday, police responded to a two-vehicle collision on McNaughton Avenue.

Neither driver was injured. Total damages were estimated at $1300.

A 60-year-old Wallaceburg woman was charged with failing to make a safe lane change.

Cyclist Charged Following Collision in Chatham

Shortly after 4:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police investigated a collision between a motor vehicle and cyclist on Emma Street in Chatham.

No one was injured. The 19-year-old female cyclist was charged with the by-law offence of riding her bicycle on the sidewalk.

The Chatham-Kent police would like to remind cyclists that the Ontario Highway Traffic Act defines bicycles as vehicles that belong on the road. Riding on the road means riding with other traffic. This is only safe when all motorists use the same rules of the road.

With the warm weather upon us, motorists will see an increase in cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists. Please slow down and share the roadway with all road users. Let’s make this a safe summer for everyone.

Marine Unit Response

The Barrie Police Marine Unit was dispatched to respond to an overturned kayak in Kempenfelt Bay. Initial reports advised that there was a person in distress in the water swimming toward shore. A nearby boater, Barrie Police and emergency services assisted in bringing two persons out of the water. One of the kayakers was treated for hypothermia and transported to the Royal Victoria Hospital.

Cyber Crime Investigation

On Monday, May 26, 2014 the London Police Cyber Crime Unit arrested a London man after an Internet luring investigation that began in August 2013.

As a result of evidence obtained, 23-year-old Christopher Farrow was charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

Telecommunication with person believed to be under 18 for a criminal purpose, contrary to section 172.1(1)(a)

Three counts of telecommunication with person believed to be under 16 for a criminal purpose, contrary to section 172.1(1)(b)

The London Police Service is a member of the Provincial Strategy to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation on the internet. The Strategy has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
