Gideon ANDERSON Was Arrested

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – On January 30, 2025, shortly before 8:00 p.m., members of the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance at a local grocery store.

An individual attempted to steal from the store before fleeing in a stolen vehicle. A short time later, officers responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 72 involving the stolen vehicle. Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the stolen vehicle was impaired. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Dryden OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Gideon ANDERSON, 26-years-old, of Kasabonika First Nation, has been charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Robbery With Violence
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle – two counts

The accused was held for a bail hearing and remanded to the Kenora District Jail. The accused will appear again before court on February 4, 2025.

Phillip KAKEKAGUMICK – Trespassing At Night

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – One Individual has been charged after police observed them trespassing and attempting to enter vehicles.

On October 28, 2024, shortly after 5 a.m., officers from the Sioux Lookout detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol when they noticed an individual with a flashlight acting in a suspicious manner around Second Avenue North.

The individual was placed under arrest and found to be in possession of multiple items not belonging to them.

Phillip KAKEKAGUMICK, 35-years-old, of Sioux Lookout has been charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with:

  • Trespassing at Night

The accused was held for bail and remanded to the Kenora District Jail.

Anyone who noticed items missing from their vehicle around October 28 should contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. The OPP wants to remind the public that leaving your vehicle unlocked and/or with valuables in plain view offers would-be criminals an easy opportunity to victimize vehicle owners.

Drug Bust

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – Officers from the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with the assistance of the Sioux Lookout OPP Community Street Crime Unit, have arrested and charged one individual for drug trafficking offences in the municipality, and another for bail violations.

On Monday, November 4th, 2024, at approximately 5:00 pm, OPP officers were called to an apartment on Millar Crescent for a report of suspicious persons. Multiple unauthorized individuals were removed from the residence, and police investigation resulted in the seizure of suspected cocaine, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and Canadian currency.

Following investigation, Nihemi Yao Walker KOUADIO, 20 years old, from Ottawa, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking,
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, and
  • Obstruct Peace Officer.

The accused was remanded into custody and will next appear in front of the Ontario Court of Justice Kenora Bail Court on November 8, 2024.

Jamie CHILDFOREVER, 37 years old, from Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation was also removed from the residence, arrested and charged with two counts of failure to comply with a release order – other than to attend court.

Following a bail hearing, this accused was scheduled to appear in front of the Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Ontario Court of Justice on November 7, 2024.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – Officers from the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with the assistance of the Sioux Lookout OPP Community Street Crime Unit, have arrested and charged two individuals for drug trafficking offences in the Municipality.

On Monday, October 28th, 2024, at approximately 4:30 pm, officers were called to a residence on Queen Street between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue North, for a report of suspicious persons. Multiple unauthorized individuals were removed from the home, and police investigation resulted in the seizure of suspected illicit substances including cocaine and methamphetamine, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and Canadian currency.

Following investigation, two individuals have been arrested and charged with drug trafficking offences: 

Rikki Starr KEJICK, 40 years old, from Lac Seul First Nation, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, and
  • Fail to comply with probation order.

Natasha CHAPMAN, 30 years old, from Sioux Lookout, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, and
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime.

After a bail court hearing, both accused have been scheduled to appear in front of the Sioux Lookout Ontario Court of Justice on November 26, 2024.

Arson – 3 Arrested

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sioux Lookout Detachment and the Sioux Lookout Crime Unit have arrested and charged three people in relation to a deliberately set fire at a local apartment complex.

At around 10:30 pm on Friday, October 25, 2024, members of the Sioux Lookout OPP responded to a report of a fire at an apartment complex on Millar Crescent. Quick reactions by a neighbour had extinguished the fire, but extensive smoke and water damage displaced individuals from approximately 17 units in the building.

Following police investigation, three people have been arrested and charged in relation to this incident.

Daniel BOIS Jr., 32 years old from North Caribou Lake First Nation, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Arson – Damage to Property
  • Arson – Disregard for Human Life
  • Break And Enter, and
  • Mischief over $5000

Leon RAE, 27 years old, from North Spirit Lake First Nation, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Arson – Damage to Property
  • Arson – Disregard for Human Life
  • Break and Enter a Place – three counts
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Common Nuisance – Endanger Life, and
  • Mischief Over $5000

Max RAE, 23 years old, from North Spirit Lake First Nation, has been charged with

  • Arson – Damage to Property
  • Arson – Disregard for Human Life
  • Break And Enter – two counts
  • Common Nuisance – Endanger Life
  • Disguise with Intent, and
  • Mischief over $5000

All three accused have been remanded to custody and will next appear in front of the Ontario Court of Justice Kenora Regional Bail Court on Monday, October 28, 2024.

Joey MACQUARRIE – Drunk Driving

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – On October 13, 2024, shortly after 3:00 p.m., members of the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 72.

Officers observed a vehicle travelling well above the posted speed limit. Officers conducted a traffic stop and observed open alcohol in the vehicle. Through investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Sioux Lookout Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Joey MACQUARRIE, 51-years-old, of Dryden, has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout on November 26, 2024.

Cocaine Bust – William GIRARD

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – Officers from the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one individual for drug trafficking offences in the Municipality, thanks to ongoing investigations being conducted by the Sioux Lookout OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU).

On Monday, September 23rd, 2024, at approximately 9:30 pm, officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 72 after forming grounds to believe the vehicle contained illicit substances for trafficking. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking, and police investigation resulted in the seizure of suspected illicit substances including over 1.3 kg of cocaine and unmarked cigarettes.

Following investigation, William GIRARD, 57 years old, from Worthington Ontario, has been arrested and charged with the following offences:

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking,

·        Drive Motor Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available, and

·        Possess Unmarked Cigarettes.

The accused was remanded into custody and will next appear in front of the Ontario Court of Justice Kenora Bail Court, on September 25, 2024.

Attempt Murder – Travarn ATKINSON Arrested

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sioux Lookout Detachment, with support from the Northwest Region Crime Unit (NWR Crime), Major Case Investigations Team (MCIT), Forensic Identification Services (FIS), Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), and Regional Support Team (RST) have identified and arrested a third individual and recovered a firearm related to an active investigation into a weapons incident in the community of Sioux Lookout.

On the afternoon of August 16, 2024, members of the Sioux Lookout OPP responded to a weapons-related disturbance on Millar Crescent.

On September 6, 2024, shortly after 8 pm, Sioux Lookout officers were requested to remove unwanted persons from a residence on King Street, in the Municipality of Sioux Lookout. Officers attended and located and arrested an individual wanted in relation to this ongoing investigation. A restricted firearm was also recovered at the residence. 

Travarn ATKINSON, 23 years old, from Brampton, ON, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder using a Restricted Firearm – Two counts
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
  • Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Discharge a Firearm into or at a Place in a Reckless Manner

The accused was remanded into custody and will next appear in front of the Ontario Court of Justice Kenora Bail Court, on September 11, 2024.

Kimberly LINKLATER – Drunk Driving

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – On August 17, 2024, shortly after 3:00 p.m., members of the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report stating a motor vehicle collision had just occurred and the vehicle at fault fled the scene.

Officers located the vehicle a short time later and identified the driver.  Through investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Sioux Lookout Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Kimberly LINKLATER, 30-years-old, of Sioux Lookout, has been charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Novice driver B.A.C. above zero
  • Driver fail to surrender insurance card

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout on October 1, 2024.

Erin CAPAY – Drunk Driving

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – On August 16, 2024, shortly before 8:00 a.m., members of the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint from a concerned citizen regarding an impaired driver.

Officers located the vehicle and through investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Sioux Lookout Detachment for further testing where they blew over three times the legal limit.

As a result, Erin CAPAY, 27-years-old, of Lac Seul First Nation, has been charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Novice driver B.A.C. above zero
  • Driver fail to surrender licence

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout on October 1, 2024.

Matthew OGEMAWENENE Arrested Again

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – Officers with the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one individual found to be breaching a Prohibition Order Regarding Children.

Around 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024, Sioux Lookout OPP officers were dispatched to the Town Beach following reports of multiple intoxicated persons. When police attended, one individual fled the area and attempted to evade officers. Investigation revealed the individual to be bound by an order of prohibition against them attending any public park or public swimming area where youth under 16 years of age were reasonably expected to be. 

As a result of the investigation, Matthew OGEMAWENENE, 21-years old, of North Caribou Lake First Nation, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with Failure to Comply with a Prohibition Order Regarding Children. The accused was remanded into custody and will next appear in front of the Ontario Court of Justice Kenora Bail Court on August 7, 2024.

 A Prohibition Order Regarding Children is a court-imposed mandate intended to protect children from sexual violence. It restricts the activities of an individual convicted of specific offences involving persons under 16 years of age. Individuals found to be breaching Prohibition Order conditions can face serious consequences, including time in prison and/or fines. These orders are in place to ensure public safety, providing officers and the courts a means through which convicted offenders can be held accountable for engaging in activities that are likely to result in harm to themselves or others.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – On July 8, 2024, officers from the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged three people for drug trafficking offences in the Municipality.

At approximately 1:45 pm, officers on general patrol conducted a traffic stop on Highway 72. Through investigation it was determined that the driver was suspended, the vehicle was not insured, and the driver and occupants were in possession of drug paraphernalia and illicit substances.

Following investigation, Kenneth VENEMA, 61 years old, from Thunder Bay, has been arrested and charged with the following Controlled Drug and Substances Act and Canadian Automobile Insurance Act offences:

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts,

·        Operate Motor Vehicle without insurance, and

·        Produce false insurance.

As well as facing additional charges under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.

Additionally, Elsa SHAKAKEESIC, 32 years old, and Layla GRAY, 22 years old, both from Thunder Bay, are charged with two counts each of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.

All accused remain in police custody and will appear in Kenora Ontario Court of Justice Bail court on July 9, 2024.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – Officers from the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged two local residents for drug trafficking offences in the municipality.

At approximately 12:00 noon on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, officers received a call for assistance at a local hotel. While responding, they located two individuals breaching court orders. Following investigation, police have seized suspected illicit substances including methamphetamine and cocaine, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and Canadian currency.

As a result of this investigation, Netania DUBROY, 20 years old, and Caroleen BEARDY, 24 years old, both from the Municipality of Sioux Lookout, have been arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Schedule substance for the purpose of trafficking, and
  • Failure to comply with Release Order- two counts.

BEARDY faces additional charges including:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime,
  • Obstruct Peace Officer.

Both accused have been remanded into custody at the Kenora District Jail and are scheduled to appear before the Kenora Ontario Court of Justice on June 14, 2024.

Camilla BOTTLE – Impaired Driving

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – The Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid impaired by drug charges following a traffic complaint.

On May 8, 2024, at approximately 2:45 p.m., members of the Sioux Lookout OPP Detachment responded to a traffic complaint at a business on Alcona Drive in the Municipality of Sioux Lookout. Officers attended the location and located the vehicle.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Sioux Lookout OPP Detachment for further testing.   

As a result, Camilla BOTTLE, 38-years-old, of Sioux Lookout, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with Operation While Impaired – Blood Drug Concentration.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout at a later date.

Travis WILLIAMS – Assault

(SIOUX LOOKOUT) – One individual faces assault charges following an incident at a local emergency shelter.

On March 8, 2024, just after 11:00 p.m., members of the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault incident at a local emergency shelter on Fair Street in the Municipality of Sioux Lookout. There were no serious injuries report to police as a result.

As a result, Travis WILLIAMS, 32-years-old, of Eagle Lake First Nation, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with Assault – three counts.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout on April 23, 2024.
