Hospital Employees Charged – Details Released

(ORILLIA, ON) – Over the course of the past year, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Anti-Rackets Branch – Health Fraud Investigation Unit (HFIU) has charged three former employees of Ontario hospitals following investigations into allegations of inappropriate access of electronic medical records related to the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).

In three unrelated incidents, the OPP became aware of complaints where employees had accessed personal health information of patients attending the hospital who were:

  •       not part of their circle of care;
  •       accessed more than was reasonably required to complete their duties; and/or
  •       accessed information after their role in the patient’s care was complete.

The incidents took place in hospitals located in western, eastern and northern Ontario.

Following the investigations, the OPP laid charges under the PHIPA.

Offences under PHIPA can carry a maximum penalty of $200,000 and up to one year in prison.

The OPP-HFIU investigates criminal and provincial offences involving the payment and delivery of health care services and products. More Impaired Drivers

(PEMBROKE, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) 2024 Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign commenced on November 21, 2024, and will continue until January 1, 2025. During the fourth week of the campaign from December 12 to December 18, 2024, officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP conducted 11 RIDE checks throughout the detachment area.

During the RIDE checks drivers were found to be in full compliance with the law and no impaired driving or over 80mg charges were reported as a result of the RIDE campaign.

Despite the compliance at the RIDE checks, UOV OPP officers charged two drivers with impaired driving-related offences during the week.

On December 15, 2024, at approximately 10:15 a.m., members of the UOV OPP responded to a single vehicle rollover collision on Spring Creek Road at Highway 41 in Bonnechere Valley Township. The driver was taken to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized.   

As a result of this incident 28-year-old Moawiya BENHMUDA of Mississauga, Ontario has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on December 31, 2024. The accused also had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. 

On December 16, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., members of the UOV OPP responded after a possible impaired driver was reported in the City of Pembroke. A short time later, police located and stopped the vehicle on MacKay Street in Pembroke. Suspected cocaine and methamphetamines were seized by police. The driver was taken into custody and further testing was conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer at the detachment. Two passengers in the vehicle were also arrested in connection with the drug offences.

As a result of this incident 26-year-old Cassidy CAVERLEY of Deep River, 38-year-old Nigel REIS of Petawawa, and 28-year-old Brooke LAVERDURE-ORR of Collingwood have each been charged with following Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine – two counts
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

REIS faces an additional charge under the Criminal Code (CC) of failing to comply with probation.

LAVERDURE-ORR faces additional charges under the CC and Highway Traffic Act (HTA):

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Failure to comply with release order – two counts
  • Resist peace officer
  • Driving while under suspension

CAVERLEY and REIS were both released to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on January 6 and 7, 2025, respectively.

LAVERDURE-ORR was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody until their next appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on January 19, 2025. The accused also had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.

Police are requesting public assistance in locating missing person Angela ‘Angie’ NESHAWABIN, 42.  

Angie is described as an Indigenous female, standing about 5’3” tall with a medium build. She has brown hair and brown eyes.  

She was last seen on Oct. 31, 2024, at the Money Mart located at 77 Great Northern Road in Sault Ste Marie. Her last known communication through social media was recorded in early December 2024.

Angie is known to frequent the Chapleau and Sault Ste Marie areas.

Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 83 calls for service between 5:00 am on December 17, 2024 to 5:00 am on December 18, 2024.

Arrest on warrants

On 17 December, 2024, at 4:20pm, Belleville Police received information that a wanted male was staying at a north end hotel. Police were advised that the male had a warrant for spousal assault, mischief, public mischief, and firearms charges. Officers with the Emergency Response Unit attended and safely took the male into custody. The 33-year-old Deseronto male was the transported to Cobourg Police Service, where the initial charges stemmed from, and he was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Project Renewal

 Project Renewal executed a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act search warrant in Belleville’s downtown core with the assistance of Belleville Police Emergency Response Unit and K9. The following was seized:

  • 3 grams Cocaine
  • 2 grams Fentanyl
  • 2 grams unknown powder
  • $565 Canadian Currency
  • Digital Scales
  • Packaging material
  • 5 cell phones

D’Angelo FORDE 25 yrs. was charged with the following offences:

Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine – Sec 5(2) CDSA

Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl – Sec 5(2) CDSA

Proceeds of crime under $5000 – Sec. 354(1)(b) CC

Skylar DOWNS 19 yrs. was charged with the following offences:

Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine – Sec 5(2) CDSA

Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl – Sec 5(2) CDSA

Proceeds of crime under $5000 – Sec. 354(1)(b) CC

Forde was held for a bail hearing and Downs was released with a court date of 20 January, 2025

St. Thomas Police Daily Update 18Dec2024

Impaired Operation 

A 49 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested after police were alerted to a possible impaired driver. Just before 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday December 17th 2024, officers were provided a description of the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on the south east side of the city. Through investigation, police determined the driver to be impaired by alcohol and a roadside screening device was administered, registering a fail. The 49 year old was arrested and transported to police headquarters where testing confirmed the individual to be impaired at nearly twice the legal limit. The St. Thomas resident was charged with Operation while Impaired – Plus 80, their vehicle impounded and their license suspend. They were later released on an undertaking with a future court date. Robbery 

A 28 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested after police were called to a retail store on Wellington Street, Tuesday afternoon. At approximately 1:30 p.m. officers responded to the area for the report of an unknown person that had threatened an employee with a knife while they attempted to stop the individual from shoplifting and leaving the store with unpaid merchandise. A description of the suspect and the vehicle they left in was provided to police. The vehicle was located a short distance away on Third Avenue and a traffic stop was conducted. An individual matching the description provided to officers was located in the back seat of the vehicle. When asked by police to identify themselves, the individual provided a false name. Officers were able to confirm the suspects actual identity and as a result, the 28 year old St. Thomas resident was charged with Robbery with Violence, Obstruct Police and Failure to Comply with Probation. The individual was transported to police headquarters where they were processed and held for a morning court appearance. ST24022718

Warrant Arrest

The 43 year old St. Thomas resident responsible for the theft of two televisions from retail store on Talbot Street, has been arrested. On Tuesday December 17th 2024, the individual attended the Elgin County Courthouse to turn themselves in on the outstanding warrant for Theft under $5,000. They individual was processed and released on an undertaking with a future court date. ST24022710

One Dead – Levi Michael LAWSON Arrested

Incident Number TB24050228

One person has been charged after human remains were discovered over the weekend.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers located a deceased individual in the area of the 800 block of Finlayson Street and the 400 block of McKellar Street North on the afternoon of Saturday, December 14.

The Thunder Bay Police Service will not be publicly releasing the identity of the individual at this time.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Unit became involved in the investigation.

A suspect was arrested by members of the Major Crimes Unit and Intelligence Unit on Tuesday, December 17.

Levi Michael LAWSON, 24, is charged with Indignity to a Human Body.

The accused appeared in court on Wednesday and has been remanded into custody with a future appearance date of December 23, 2024.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Bryan Devereaux Wanted By Police – Licence Plate DARP182

Region of Peel – Investigators from the 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau seek assistance from the public to locate a man involved in a physical altercation with a female.

On December 17, 2024, at 11:47 a.m. police received a report of an altercation between a man and a woman in the area of Mississauga Road and Meadowvale Boulevard in Mississauga.

During the incident, the man was reportedly seen striking the female and forcing her into a vehicle before leaving the area.

The vehicle is a 2006 Acura MDX SUV, black in colour bearing Ontario licence plate DARP182. The vehicle has a gold Acura emblem and front end damage.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle however the driver did not stop and managed to evade police.

The driver has been identified as 48-year-old Bryan Devereaux of Kitchener.  He is described white, 5’7”, slim build.  He was last seen wearing a grey hoodie, black rimmed glasses with yellow tint.

The unknown female is described as early 30s, 5’4”, medium build. Last seen wearing a full length parka.

Bryan is encouraged to seek legal counsel and turn himself in to police.

If Bryan or the vehicle is seen, police are asking members of the public not to approach but to call 9-1-1 immediately.

Shots Fired – Winston VERNON Wanted By Police


Investigators with the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have issued an arrest warrant for an Aurora man, after shots were fired at a home in Newmarket.

On Sunday, December 15, 2024, at approximately 4:15 a.m., police responded to a residence in the area of College Manor Drive and Greig Circle for a report that shots had been fired. When officers arrived, multiple shell casings were found in front of the residence. Damage had been caused to the house and a vehicle parked in the driveway. A white hatchback was seen fleeing the area.

The house was occupied at the time of the shooting. There were no physical injuries.

Investigators believe the incident was targeted.

Pedestrain Struck In Hit & Run

On December 17th, 2024 at approximately 5:40 pm, a pedestrian was struck at Mountainview Road and Campbell Gate by a dark coloured SUV. The elderly pedestrian was rushed to Georgetown Hospital where they are listed in stable condition. The involved vehicle failed to remain and was last observed driving south on Mountainview Road away from the scene.

Waterloo Regional Police Respond to Another Shooting

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police are currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred at a Cambridge residence.

On December 18, 2024, at approximately 7:45 a.m., police responded to reports of residential property damage caused by a firearm in the area of Munch Avenue and Sekura Street.

There are no reports of any physical injuries and it is believed the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m.

The investigation remains ongoing and there will be an increased police presence in the area throughout the day.

Unidentified Female Killed In Collision – Sohaib Abdallah LOUNES Arrested

An unidentified female was fatally injured after a vehicle she was riding in lost control and left the roadway in Pickering.

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at approximately 4:30 a.m., members from West Division responded to a collision involving a rolled over vehicle on Brock Road near Mowbray Street.  A black 2018 Audi sedan was southbound on Brock Road when it lost control, left the roadway and struck a large tree.  The vehicle had four occupants onboard and was driven by a 20-year-old male from Quebec.  Two of the occupants were ejected during the collision and rollover.

One of the occupants, a yet to be identified female, aged 18-22, was ejected and fatally injured as a result of the collision.  Police are currently attempting to identify the female.

The other two occupants were transported to a Toronto-area trauma center.  They are currently listed in serious but stable condition.

The 20-year-old driver of the vehicle, who also suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, was later arrested for numerous offences.

Sohaib Abdallah LOUNES, age 20 from Quebec is charged with: Dangerous Operation Causing Death, Dangerous Operation Cause Bodily Harm x2, Possession of Electronic Device for the Purpose of Committing Motor Vehicle Theft, and Possession of Break-and-Enter Instruments.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch – Collision Investigation Unit (CIU), attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.

Shots Fired Into Child’s Bedroom

Police are investigating after shots fired Wednesday morning in Oshawa.

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at approximately 2:05 a.m., members of Central East Division responded to the area of Mary Street North and Taunton Road East after receiving a call for the sound of gunshots. 

Officers arrived on scene and located a number of shell casings in the area. At this time, there have been no physical injuries reported. 

A large canvass was conducted and multiple residences were located that had been shot. Residents were home at the time of the shooting and the bullets entered their homes, severely compromising their safety. Of note, a bullet was located in a child’s bedroom beneath their bed. The child was not home at the time and is uninjured.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with video footage to please contact police.

Shot(s) Fired – Nicholas Traviss Arrested

LONDON, ON (December 18, 2024) – Members of the LPS Street Crime Unit with the assistance of the LPS Guns and Gangs Section, have arrested one of the three outstanding suspects in the shooting investigation which occurred in the 200-block of Simcoe Street in last month.

As a result, Nicholas Traviss, 28, of London, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
  • Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition;
  • Break, enter and commit; and,
  • Discharge firearm with intent to wound/endanger life or prevent arrest.

The accused appeared in London court on December 9, 2024, in relation to the charges.

Investigators continue to search for two additional suspects.

The first suspect is described as male, Indigenous, approximately 25-35 years old, larger build, average height, wearing a black or dark navy “Jordan” hooded sweater, black pants and grey running shoes with white laces and white soles. He has black facial hair on his chin and a thin black moustache.

The second suspect is described as male, White, approximately 25-35 years old and walks with a slight lean to his right, wearing grey jeans with red markings on the inside of the pant legs below the knee, a black jacket with red inner lining and black high-top sneakers.

Investigators continue to urge members of the public that may have been in the 200-block of Simcoe Street between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, who may have dash-cam, residential or business video surveillance that could assist with the investigation, or who may be able to identify these outstanding suspects to contact the London Police Service.

The investigation remains ongoing.
