Michael HEARN – Drunk Driving

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charges a local resident with a criminal charge, stemming from a traffic stop.

On January 12, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., members of the Wellington County OPP were performing a traffic enforcement initiative when they detected a suspicious motor vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Main Street within the Town of Erin.

As a result of the investigation, Michael HEARN, a 49-year-old of Erin is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on January 21, 2025.

GUAY – Drunk Driving

(TEMAGAMI, ON) – One person was charged with impaired driving as a result of a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) Program.

On January 3, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., members of the Temagami Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE spot-check on Highway 64 in Temagami.

During the program, police administered Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) tests and one driver failed. They were arrested and transported to the Temiskaming OPP Detachment for further testing.

Richard GUAY, 30 years-of-age of Verner Ontario, was charged under the Criminal Code (CC), the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and the Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA) with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 Plus)
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

The accused received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. They are scheduled to appear before the Haileybury Ontario Court of Justice on January 28, 2025.

Drivers are reminded that the Mandatory Alcohol Screening law allows officers with an approved screening device to demand a roadside breath sample from any lawfully stopped driver without reasonable suspicion of impairment.

Murder – 2 Arrested

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) – The Wellington County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two more individuals in connection with a 2019 kidnapping and homicide investigation.

On March 12, 2019, the body of Jason BROWN, a 43-year-old of Kitchener, was located in the Oshawa area of Durham Region.

As a result of the investigation, two additional individuals were charged contrary to the Criminal Code.

Mathew DRUMOND, 38 years old of London, was charged with:

  • First degree murder, section 465(1)(c)
  • Conspiracy to commit indictable offence, section 235(1)

The accused will make their next court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on February 3, 2025.

Jessica MARTIN, 35 years old of North Perth, was charged with:

  • First degree murder, section 235(1)
  • Kidnapping, section 279(1)(a)
  • Obstruct justice, section 139(1) – three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, section 354(1)(a) – two counts

The accused will make their next court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on February 3, 2025.

Investigators have previously charged three other individuals in relation to this investigation.

The Wellington County OPP Crime Unit continues to investigate under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch and with the assistance of the OPP Biker Enforcement Unit.

The Government of the Province of Ontario is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the death of Jason John BROWN.

CPS Daily Update 10Jan2025

A 42-year-old Roseneath woman is facing charges after police conducted a traffic stop on Friday morning.

On January 10, 2025, at approximately 1:00 a.m., police on patrol observed a vehicle that appeared to be making evasive maneuvers to avoid police interactions.  The vehicle abruptly turned onto Patterson Street from Division Street before entering the business parking lot.  A traffic stop was conducted and through investigation it was determined the driver was a prohibited driver. 

The driver, a 42-year-old woman from Roseneath, was arrested and charged with three counts of Operation while prohibited contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date. 

A 34-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges after theft from vehicle reported to police Wednesday.

On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at about 6:50 a.m., police responded to a report of a theft from a vehicle in the area of Elgin Street West and Burnham Street in Cobourg.

The complainant advised his vehicle was entered overnight and his luggage was taken, including his credit card and passport.

The credit card was used at a local business multiple times. Police identified a suspect and located the suspect in the area of Division Street a short time later.

As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with thirteen counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, twelve counts of unauthorized use of credit card, theft under $5,000, possession of a schedule I substance (cocaine), and breach of probation.

The accused was held for bail.

Brenda Knight Was Arrested

On January 8th police responded to a trespassing complaint at a residence within the 700 block of Devine Street in Sarnia.  Investigators discovered that a residence had been broken into, and items stolen from within. 

Further investigation revealed that the occupant of the residence had been incarcerated for a period of time on another matter.  While his residence was unattended, another individual was able to gain entry to the property, stealing multiple items from inside.  The stolen property was then being offered for sale on the front lawn, prompting neighbours to contact police.  

Brenda Knight, 55 years of Sarnia, has been charged with Break and Enter.  She was held for a bail hearing and later released with conditions.

STPS Daily Update 11Jan2025

A 39-year-old St. Thomas man was arrested yesterday morning following a vehicle entry and theft that occurred overnight. The victim was alerted to the theft after receiving notifications on his phone from his financial institution regarding suspicious account activity. In addition to the victim’s passport and cash, the victim’s credit cards were stolen and used at two St. Thomas convenience stores. Police identified the accused via store surveillance footage and located him a short time later. The male is charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 and two counts of Use Credit Card. He was released with a future court date. ST25000544.

Unlawfully in a Dwelling

A 31-year-old male and his 30-year-old female partner were arrested and charged on Friday after reports of people squatting in an apartment building under construction. The building owner arrived that morning and found signs of forced entry. Police including members of the Critical Incident Response Team attended to safely clear the building. Inside, the two accused parties were located and taken into custody without incident. They are each charged with Unlawfully in a Dwelling and were transported to police headquarters where they were later released with a future court date. ST25000554.

Later that day, police were called to a multi-unit home near the city centre for reports of an unknown person inside the common laundry room, refusing to leave the premises. Police attended and located a 45-year-old female. The female was arrested for unlawfully in a dwelling and transported to police headquarters for processing where she was later released with a future court date. ST25000560.

Shoplift

An unknown person dressed in all black including a face covering attended a local convenience store on Friday afternoon and stole two bottles of red wine. Police are reviewing video in an attempt to identify a male suspect involved in a shoplifting incident Friday afternoon. The male attended a local grocery store, selected several food and miscellaneous items, and left on foot after making no attempt to pay for the $100 in goods. Warrant Arrest

A 49-year-old female was arrested by the Sarnia Police Service yesterday afternoon. The female was wanted on a first instance warrant held by the STPS for failing to comply with her release order. Members of the STPS met with Sarnia Police to continue the arrest and transport the female back to STPS for processing. The female was later released with a future court date. ST25000581.

Mischief

On Friday evening police responded to an apartment building in the downtown area for reports of a tenant causing damage to a wall in the common room. Police attended and observed a hole in the drywall and reviewed video of the incident. A 29-year-old male has been identified as the suspect that caused the damage. Police are applying for a warrant for the male’s arrest. ST25000583.

Shoplift/ Breach of Probation

A 34-year-old St. Thomas man was arrested last night for three counts of Fail to Comply with Probation after he was caught shoplifting at a local grocery store. An employee observed the theft and confronted the male outside of the store. The accused turned over the stolen food and left the area on foot. Police identified the male via store surveillance and learned that he was bound by conditions not to attend at that particular business. Police located the male later that night and arrested him without incident. He was released with a future court date. ST25000591.

Justin Brouillard Arrested Again

A 41-year-old man charged with drug trafficking has been arrested for the second time in eight months for violating his bail conditions – becoming the 64th repeat offender apprehended by the Offender Management Unit since it launched less than a year ago.

In March 2024, Justin Brouillard was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking after Windsor Police seized 367 grams of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. He was released on bail and arrested by bail compliance officers in August for failing to comply with his release order. He was released on bail again with enhanced conditions that included house arrest and electronic monitoring.

On December 18, 2024, bail compliance officers launched an investigation and learned that Brouillard was once again breaching the conditions of his release order.

Bail compliance officers, with the assistance of the Emergency Services Unit, located and arrested Brouillard in the 1700 block of Westminster Blvd. on January 7, 2025. He has been charged with one count of failing to comply with a release order.

Brouillard’s surety, 62-year-old James Ripley, was also arrested and charged with facilitating a breach of a release order. A surety is an individual who agrees to supervise an accused person while they are out on bail and ensure they comply with their release conditions.

Bail compliance officers are part of the Offender Management Unit, a partnership between Windsor and LaSalle Police Services launched in March 2024. Since its inception, the unit has conducted 262 compliance checks and arrested 64 individuals for violating their bail conditions.

This unit focuses on monitoring high-risk offenders involved in serious crimes such as sexual assault, intimate partner violence, drug trafficking, and attempted murder. The program is supported through a grant from the Government of Ontario, as part of the provincial government’s strategy to strengthen Ontario’s bail system.

Smash & Grab in London

LONDON, ON (January 10, 2025) – Two men are in custody after a jewelry store in the south end of the city was robbed yesterday evening.

On Thursday, January 9, 2025, at approximately 8:10 p.m., four masked men entered a shopping center in the 1100-block of Wellington Road South carrying hammers.

The men attended a jewelry store inside the shopping center, smashed display cases, and stole an undisclosed amount of jewelry.

Police responded to numerous 9-1-1 calls and attended the area.

Two suspects were arrested while attempting to flee on foot, while two others fled from the area in a vehicle.

A search of the suspects yielded a quantity of stolen jewelry.

There were no reported injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Raavon Walker-Nabwangu, 28, of Ottawa, and Warren Tyler Fox, 28, of Toronto, have been jointly charged with the following offences:

  • Armed robbery; and
  • Disguise with intent.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the reported robbery who may have information, dash-cam/cellphone footage, or video surveillance, to contact the London Police Service.

The investigation was reassigned to members of the LPS Street Crime Unit and is ongoing.

The two accused are expected to appear in London court today in relation to the charges.

Victim Stabbed And Residence Set On Fire

The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of an arrest made in an Arson and Aggravated Assault investigation.

On Friday, January 10, 2025 at approximately 11:20 a.m. police responded to a call to a fire in the Sherbourne Street and Shuter Street area.

It is alleged that:

  • an altercation took place between a woman and the victim
  • the woman stabbed the victim and set fire to a residence
  • the victim was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries
  • the woman was arrested a short time later

Nakitha Smith, 29, of Toronto has been arrested and charged with:

  1. Aggravated Assault
  2. two counts of Arson 

She is scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, at 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Saturday, January 11, 2024, at 10 a.m., in room 107.

14 Year Old Run Over By Drinking Driver

(Ramara Township, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating an incident after a youth was injured while being pulled on a GT Racer, which sent them to hospital.

On January 10, 2024, at approximately 10:30 pm, Orillia OPP, Rama Police Service, Ramara Fire and EMS responded to an accident involving a 14-year-old youth that was runover by a vehicle that was pulling a GT Racer. A youth was transported to a local hospital with serious non-life-threatening injuries and the driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old male from Ramara Township was charged with the following Provincial offences:

  •        Drive motor vehicle – Perform Stunt
  •        Careless Driving
  •        Novice driver – B.A.C above zero
  •        Drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  •        Obstruct plate

Increased Police Presence Near Chepstow

(SOUTH BRUCE, ON) – South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), West Region OPP K-9, and OPP Aviation Unit responded to an incident in the Municipality of Brockton in Greenock Township just after 2:00 p.m. on January 11th, 2025. 

On Saturday, January 11th, 2025, South Bruce OPP responded to an incident on Schmidt Lake Road in Greenock Twp, north of Chepstow.

Officers interacted with an individual and have now taken that same individual safely into custody. Members of the public will see an increased police presence in the area mentioned above, however, there is no threat to public safety.

The investigation is continuing, and more details will be released at the appropriate time.

32 Year Old Drunk Driver Arrested

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – On January 10, 2025, just before 11:00 pm, members of the Collingwood Ontario Provincial Police responded to a cell phone crash notification. The single vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of First Street and Pine street in the Town of Collingwood. Officers arrived on scene and discovered that the vehicle had destroyed the centre traffic light. As a result of the investigation, the Novice driver was arrested for impaired driving. Blood alcohol content was approximately two and a half times the legal limit.

33-yr-old Rodrigo LAVIA MARINHO of Toronto has been charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs (Criminal Code)
  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration – 80 plus (Criminal Code)
  • Novice drive – blood alcohol concentration above zero (Highway Traffic Act)

The male driver faces a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and a 7-day vehicle impoundment. The accused is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on February 11th, 2025.

MONK Arrested Again

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two local men with impaired driving between January 4th and 7th, 2025.

On Saturday January 4, 2025, just before midnight, a member of the public called police concerned about the condition of a driver who appeared to be having trouble with their vehicle in a parking lot of a building centre on Manitoba Street near Falkenburg Road in Bracebridge. Officers attended, entered into an impaired driving investigation and subsequently arrested and charged 38-year-old Evan MONK of Port Sydney with the following:

  • Operation while Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a)
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand CC 320.15(1)
  • Obstruct Peace Officer CC 129(a)
  • Operation while Prohibited under the Criminal Code CC 320.18(1)(a) X 4.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge.

On Tuesday January 7, 2025 at 5:15 p.m. a Bracebridge OPP officer attended a service centre located on Highway 11 North in Gravenhurst and while there noticed a vehicle stopped at the gas pumps for an extended period of time. The officer approached the vehicle and had to rouse the driver. As a result of their investigation, police have arrested and charged 34-year-old Mackenzie WEAVER of Bracebridge with Operation while Impaired by Drug CC 320.14(1)(a) and Operation while Prohibited CC 320.18(1)(a). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on February 18, 2025 to answer to his charges.

Alison NICE Arrested After Posting Stolen Items From Legion Online

(GRAVENHURST, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person after an investigation into a theft from the Royal Canadian Legion in Gravenhurst.

On November 16, 2024 police began an investigation into the theft of irreplaceable clothing items from the Royal Canadian Legion in Gravenhurst, ON. Further information was provided that the suspect had listed the stolen items on an online marketplace.

As a result of their investigation, police arrested and charged 49-year-old Alison NICE of Gravenhurst with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime CC 354(1)(a) and Trafficking in Stolen Goods CC 355.5(b). She will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge next on February 4, 2025 to answer to her charges.

2 Arrested For Armed Robbery

(TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH, ON) – Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested two individuals in relation to a theft of a motor vehicle.

On January 2, 2025, uniform members of HW responded to the report of an armed robbery of an UBER driver. The driver responded to a request for pick up at the Pizza Pizza in Wasaga Beach. After the picking up the suspect and mobile, the suspect pressed an object against the driver’s head and demanded he pull the vehicle over to the side of the road and get out. After the driver complied, the suspect fled the area in the vehicle alone leaving the driver behind.

Uniformed officers patrolled the area, located the vehicle and an attempt was made to stop the vehicle however, the driver failed to stop. The vehicle was later found abandoned in a parking lot in Collingwood.

The Huronia West Crime Unit, Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE), Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) were able to locate and arrest the two suspects at a residence in Collingwood without incident.

As a result of the investigation, a youth from Wasaga Beach was arrested and charged with:

  • YPC Robbery using Firearm
  • YPC Possession property obtained by crime over $5000
  • YPC Flight from peace officer
  • YPC Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm
  • Failure to attend court while on Release Order

The identity of the youth will be withheld under the provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

Subsequently, Justice McEWEN, 20-year-old from Wasaga Beach, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Flight from peace officer

The two accused were held for a bail hearing and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
