Man found keys, took neighbour’s car for joyride

A Guelph man who took a neighbour’s car for a joyride instead of returning lost car keys has been arrested.

Sometime Monday, a man found a set of car keys in the hallway of a Willow Road apartment building. He used the keys to locate the matching vehicle – a Lexus sedan – and drove it out of the parking lot. Just after 11 p.m. Monday he was involved in a collision just outside Guelph.

On Tuesday morning the owner discovered the car missing and called police.

On Wednesday night an 18-year-old Guelph man was arrested for motor vehicle theft. He will appear in court March 25.

Thousands of pounds of steel stolen

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after thousands of pounds of steel was removed from a south-end business.

Wednesday morning, the owner of a business on Southgate Drive reported the theft which occurred Saturday evening. Security video recorded five males entering the business’ yard approximately 5:30 p.m. Saturday and loading steel slabs into a white Mercedes van.

The slabs are each approximately five feet long, a foot wide and three inches thick and each weigh approximately 1,100 pounds. The total value is estimated at more than $5,000.

Downtown business entered

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a break-in at a downtown business.

Tuesday evening, police were called to a business on Wyndham Street North. The owner had arrived and found someone had kicked a hole in the drywall next to the door to his unit from a common area within the building.

Officers observed a large hole in the drywall next to the door handle, which likely allowed the suspect to reach through and open the door from the inside. No further damage was observed inside the business and nothing appeared to have been stolen.

Susan DEBRUYN Was Arrested Again

(SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one individual with impaired driving related charges after an officer was alerted to a suspended driver.

On February 12, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Huronia West OPP officers conducted a traffic stop while on general patrol on Penetanguishene Road in Springwater Township. Officers were alerted by the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system which prompted further investigation by the officer. After a brief discussion with the driver, the officer conducted an impaired driving investigation. As a result, Susan DEBRUYN, 65-year-old of Tiny Township, was arrested and has been charged with the following:

·      Adult Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The Female was additionally charged under the with:

·      Adult Driving While Under Suspension

·      Adult Fail to Surrender Insurance Card

·      Adult Breach of Probation Order

The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Marcin POREBSKI Was Arrested – Details Released

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – Individual from Middlesex Centre facing charges.

On February 11, 2025, at 7:09 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were dispatched to an address on Cook Road in in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre for an individual who had placed numerous calls to police in a short period of time.

As police arrived on scene and individual with an aggressive dog became assaultive toward police.

As a result, Marcin POREBSKI a 42-year-old of Middlesex Centre, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Assault A Peace Officer with a weapon
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Harassing Communications

The accused was held for bail.

Pervet Alert – Brayden STURGESS Arrested – Details Released

(WASAGA BEACH, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Child Sexual Exploitation Unit (CSEU), with the assistance of the Huronia West OPP and OPP Digital Forensics, has arrested and charged a Wasaga Beach resident following a child sexual exploitation investigation.

As a result of the investigation, a search warrant was executed at a residence, and several electronic devices were seized.

Brayden STURGESS, 24 years of age from Wasaga Beach, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

• Possession of child pornography, section 163.1(4) – two counts

• Make child pornography available, section 163.1(3)

The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on February 13, 2025.

Rozlyn WESLEY – Impaired Driving, Cocaine A Factor

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – A traffic stop in Kapuskasing resulted in the arrest of a driver for impaired operation and the seizure of suspected cocaine.

On February 11, 2025, at approximately 1:00 a.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Cedar Street. Officers determined that the driver had consumed an intoxicating substance and placed the individual under arrest. The driver was transported to the Kapuskasing OPP detachment for further testing. A search of the vehicle incident to arrest led to the discovery of suspected cocaine.

As a result of the investigation, Rozlyn WESLEY, 41 years of age of Constance Lake, has been charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – drugs

·        Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration

·        Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 17, 2025, in Kapuskasing. In addition, the accused received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Clifford SHINK Was Arrested – Meth A Factor

(HEARST, ON) – A traffic stop in Hearst led to the arrest of a driver for impaired operation and drug trafficking charges.

On February 8, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Jolin Street. During the interaction, officers determined that the driver had consumed an intoxicating substance. The individual was arrested and transported to the Hearst OPP detachment for further testing. A search of the vehicle incident to arrest resulted in the seizure of suspected methamphetamine tablets.

As a result of the investigation, Clifford SHINK, 45 years of age of Hearst, has been charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – drugs

·        Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration

·        Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

·        Possession of proceeds of crime over $5000

The accused was held for a bail hearing on February 9, 2025, before the Ontario Court of Justice, in Hearst. In addition, the accused received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Neil HARRISON – Drunk Driving

(ALLISTON, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for driving while impaired in the Town of New Tecumseth.

On February 12, 2025, shortly before 7:30 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP responded to a report of an unwanted person at the St louis Bar and Grill on King Street South, in Alliston. A customer who had been drinking was no longer welcome and refusing to leave. Upon officers arrival the individual had just fled the parking lot in a motor vehicle.

The officer was able to locate the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop shortly after on Victoria Street East. The officer issued an Approved Screening Device demand (ASD). Subsequently the driver provided a sample which resulted in a “Fail”. 

At 7:41 p.m., the driver: Neil HARRISON 63 years-old, of Alliston, was arrested and charge with:  

•Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on March 6, 2025, to answer to the charges.

Cory ASHAWASAGAI – Drunk Driving, Etc.

(PARRY SOUND, ON) – The West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one person with impaired driving.

On February 12, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m. the West Parry Sound OPP were on patrol in the Town of Parry Sound. Officers stopped a vehicle on James Street due to a licence plate violation and observed open alcohol in the vehicle.  

As a result of the investigation, Cory ASHAWASAGAI, 46 years-of-age of Henvey Inlet First Nation was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on March 18, 2025. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

Assault

A 52 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged with Assault. On Tuesday February 11th 2025, officers were called to investigate the report of an incident that occurred in January. Through investigation, officers learned a disturbance at a shared residence resulted in the victim being physically assaulted and threatened by the accused. As a result, the 52 year old has been charged with one count of Assault, Uttering Threats and Failure to Comply with Probation. A warrant for arrest has been requested. ST25002388

Intimate Partner Violence

A 62 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested after police were called to a family dispute, last night. Upon arrival, officers learned a verbal argument between family members had escalated resulting in damage to the inside of the residence and a physical altercation, occurring.  The accused had left the area prior to police arrival, but attended police headquarters short time later. The 62 year old was charged with two counts of Assault, one count Mischief and one count of Uttering Threats. The individual was processed and held for a morning court appearance. ST25002405

Stunt Driving

A 28 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged with stunt driving after being observed travelling at high rate of speed on Tuesday afternoon. Police were conducting speed enforcement on Talbot Street when a vehicle registered 108km/h in a 60 km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted and the 28 year old was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt. Their driver’s license was seized and their vehicle was impounded. ST25002347

Theft

St. Thomas police are currently investigating the report of approximately $500 of tools, stolen from a vehicle. On Tuesday February 11th 2025, the vehicle owner contacted police to report that sometime in the overnight hours their work truck had been entered and the tools, stolen. No damage to the vehicle was reported. This remains under investigation. ST25002364

A 32 year old Elgin County resident has been charged with Theft under $5,000 after being identified as the person responsible in a shoplifting incident from a grocery store on Talbot Street. A warrant for arrest has been requested. ST25002397

Warrant Arrests 

A 42 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. On Tuesday February 11th 2025, the individual attended police headquarters to turn themselves in on an outstanding warrant with our service for Failure to Comply with Undertaking and Failure to Comply with Probation, stemming from an incident earlier this month. The individual was processed and released on an appearance notice with a future court date. ST25002360

A 50 year old London resident has been arrested. On Tuesday February 11th 2025, STPS was notified by London Police who had the individual in their custody on the strength of our warrant in relation to an incident in 2023, where the individual had failed to stop at a RIDE check and fled the area. The 50 year old had been charged with:

  • One count of Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
  • One count of Driver – Fail to Stop When Directed by Police
  • One count of Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle
  • One count of Driver Fail to Surrender License
  • One count of Fail to Surrender Insurance Card

St. Thomas police attended London to transfer custody and transport the individual to STPS Headquarters where they were processed and held for a morning court appearance. ST25002364

Mischief 

A 20 year old St. Thomas resident has been charged with several offences after police were called to an address on the west end of the city, Tuesday night. Upon arrival, officers learned the 20 year old accused had caused damage inside of an apartment and threatened the person who resides there. Attending officers observed damaged caused to furniture and several items thrown throughout the residence. As a result, the 20 year old who had left the area prior to police arrival has been charged with two counts of Failure to Comply with Probation Order, one count of Uttering Threats and one count of Mischief over $5,000.  A warrant for arrest has been requested. Failure to Comply 

A 30 year old St. Thomas resident has been arrested. Last night, officers on community patrol located the individual who was known to them to be on a release condition to not be outside of their residence. The 30 year old was charged with Failure to Comply with Release Order and transported to police headquarters where they were processed and held for a morning court appearance. ST25002409

Three suspects arrested, one sought following series of group retail thefts

The Windsor Police Service has arrested three people and issued a warrant for a fourth suspect following a series of organized group retail thefts.

Between August 25, 2024 and January 27, 2025, police received reports of five retail thefts involving the same group of people at several big-box stores throughout Windsor. The total value of goods stolen was $3,377.84.

Through investigation, officers identified all four suspects involved.

On February 5, 2025, members of the Windsor Police Target Base Unit located and arrested Kenneth McLachlan, 40, in the area of Tecumseh Road West and Church Avenue. 

The following afternoon, the Windsor Police Problem-Oriented Policing Unit (POP) located and arrested Brittney Ducharme, 35, in the 4300 block of Walker Road. Later that evening, officers located and arrested Dylan Riberdy, 32, in the 1600 block of Drouillard Road.

McLachlan, Ducharme, and Riberdy have each been charged with three counts of theft under $5,000 and committing an indictable offence for a criminal organization. Riberdy has also been charged with two counts of failure to comply with a release order.

A fourth suspect remains outstanding. Kory Raymond, 36, is wanted for three counts of theft under $5,000, committing an indictable offence for a criminal organization, and three counts of failure to comply with a release order.

This suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5’9” tall, with a medium build, brown hair, and green eyes.

Assault charge after disturbance at church

A Fergus man faces assault and mischief charges following a disturbance Tuesday at a church in the north end of Guelph.

Police were called to the church just after noon. A member had attended and was angry at staff, pouring his coffee on a reception counter and smashing a potted plant. He yelled at an employee through an office window before repeatedly throwing a plant pot at the window until it broke through, causing the employee to run out of the way to avoid being struck.

The man also picked up a salt storage box and threw that through the window.

A 44-year-old Fergus man was arrested at his home later in the afternoon and charged with assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000. He will appear in court April 1.

Restaurant break-in

The Guelph Police Service is investigating a break and enter to a south-end restaurant.

Approximately 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, the owner of a Kortright Road plaza called police after discovering a broken glass door on one of the units. Officers arrived and discovered the front door was unlocked. A hole had been smashed near the locking mechanism, allowing the suspect to reach in and unlock the door.

A cash register drawer containing a small amount of cash and an iPad were reported missing.

Several charges after arrest

A Guelph woman faces several charges after she was found Wednesday morning sleeping in a vehicle.

Just after 1:30 a.m. officers patrolling on Woolwich Street near Speedvale Avenue discovered a vehicle which was running and appeared to be unoccupied. On closer inspection they located a woman sleeping in the vehicle and noted a glass pipe with suspected fentanyl in the centre console.

The woman was wakened and provided a name later determined to be false. When her true identity was established it was learned she was wanted for breaching a probation order.

A 23-year-old Guelph woman is charged with breach of probation, possessing a controlled substance and obstructing police. She was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.

Stolen pickup recovered

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a stolen pickup was located Tuesday outside a west-end business.

Shortly after 1 p.m. police were called to a business near Elmira Road North and Massey Road. The owner had arrived in the morning to find a silver Ford F150 parked in an unusual way behind the business. He believed it was related to a neighbouring business, but when it was still there at lunch time he decided to call police. Investigation revealed it had been stolen from Brantford more than a month ago.

2 Police Officers Taken To Hospital #Don’tDoDrugs

(Ottawa) – Two Ottawa Police officers were hospitalized after being exposed to fentanyl and crystal meth during separate arrests.

In the early hours of February 5, 2025, an Ottawa Police officer was taken to the hospital after being exposed to fentanyl during a traffic stop and subsequent arrest of a 36-year-old man on Esprit Drive. Fortunately, thanks to an immediate response, the officer has since been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Over 70 grams of Fentanyl and 146 grams of unknown white powder were seized. The man was charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Only three days later, an officer from the Ottawa Police East division seized crystal meth from a male he arrested and started feeling nauseous and lightheaded during the transportation. The officer pulled over and the sergeant following his police cruiser called for paramedics. This officer was also transported to the hospital, has since been released and is doing well.

These incidents highlight the life-threatening risk fentanyl and other drugs pose to first responders. It also clearly demonstrates how the risk associated to the drug has devasted communities across Canada leaving thousands of people mourning the loss of their loved ones to drug overdoses.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(FORT FRANCES , ON) – Members of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged multiple individuals for drug related offences after conducting a traffic stop in the Town of Fort Frances.

On February 11, 2025, shortly after 10:30 p.m., officers from Rainy River District OPP (Fort Frances) conducted a traffic stop that led officers to enter a criminal investigation after police located a male in the vehicle who was breaching his release conditions.

Police conducted a further search of the vehicle and located items that led police to initiate a drug investigation of the motor vehicle and the occupants in the motor vehicle.

Police seized:

  • Approximately $3300.00 in Canadian Currency,
  • Approximately 24 grams of suspected Cocaine
  • Approximately 5 grams of Methamphetamine
  • Approximately 13 grams of Fentanyl

As a result of the investigation police have arrested and charged the following individuals:

Diane PIZZICAROLA Was Arrested – Details Released

(NIAGARA FALLS, ON) – A driver was arrested and charged criminally after she was stopped and found to be serving a 1-year Criminal Code driver’s licence suspension because of an impaired driving conviction in November 2024.

On Thursday, February 6, 2025, at approximately 11:30am, an OPP Officer from the Niagara Detachment was on general patrol on Highway 420 and Drummond Ave, Niagara Falls when a vehicle was stopped, with the assistance of Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology.

As a result of the investigation, Diane PIZZICAROLA, age 56, from Niagara Falls has been charged with:

·      Operation While Prohibited Under the Criminal Code

·      Failure To Comply With Undertaking

·      Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance

The accused was released from custody and is set to appear on March 10th, 2025, at the Ontario Court of Justice, St. Catharines.

Randy ST. GODDARD – Drunk Driving

(DRYDEN, ON) – Members of the Dryden Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment have arrested and charged one individual with impaired operation. 

On February 11, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m. members of the Dryden OPP Detachment observed a dangerous maneuver by a motorist requiring the officers to take evasive measures to avoid a collision. A short time later, officers located the suspect vehicle and driver.

As a result of the investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol/drug. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Dryden Detachment OPP Detachment for further testing.

Randy ST. GODDARD, 69-years-old, of Dryden, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with:

·         Operation while impaired by blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·         Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·         Dangerous operation

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden on April 15, 2025.
