OPP Make Arrested On Unceded Land

(WIKWEMIKONG UNCEDED TERRITORY, ON) – Four people have been arrested and charged with drug and weapons related offences after a search warrant was executed in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory.

On April 17, 2024, shortly after 5:00 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of the North East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), North East Region Canine Unit, Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS), and the United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police (UCCM Police) executed a search warrant at a residence on Kaboni Road.

Police arrested four people at the residence and located over 35 grams of suspected fentanyl, over 3 grams of suspected cocaine, and over 3 grams of suspected crack cocaine. Police also located firearms, ammunition, and over $12,000 in Canadian currency.

As a result of the investigation, Ross JACKO, 39-years-old from Sudbury has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Breach of firearms regulation – store firearm or restricted weapon
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order – ten counts

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay Bail Court on April 19, 2024.

Brooke MANITOWABI, 26-years-old from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Breach of firearms regulation – store firearm or restricted weapon
  • Possession of prohibited device or ammunition

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory on May 28, 2024.

Dominos MANITOWABI, 41-years-old from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Breach of firearms regulation – store firearm or restricted weapon
  • Possession of prohibited device or ammunition

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay Bail Court on April 19, 2024.

Jamie-Lynn PITAWANAKWAT, 29-years-old from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Breach of firearms regulation – store firearm or restricted weapon
  • Possession of prohibited device or ammunition

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory on May 28, 2024.

Jesse BROENNLE Was Arrested

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – A Wahnapitae driver was stopped for a traffic violation which resulted in an arrest for impaired driving in Elliot Lake.

On April 19, 2024, at approximately 12:45 a.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting general traffic patrol duties on Mississauga Avenue. A construction company grey pick-up truck was stopped for a traffic infraction when police detected an odour of alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver’s breath. A roadside test was completed and as a result, the driver was arrested and the vehicle was towed and impounded. 

Jesse BROENNLE, 38-years-old, from Wahnapitae was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Improper number plate light

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on May 9, 2024.

E-Biker Arrested – Details Released

(MIDLAND, ON)- A Midland resident learned as a result of a single vehicle E-Bike crash that drinking and driving laws do apply to E-Bike operators as well. Griffin Wright-Gravel 19 years was charged with Operation while impaired – alcohol and further with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) after officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment were dispatched at approximately 9:07 pm April 18, 2024 to an incident in a parking lot off Len Self Boulevard, Midland.

Neither the operator or the female passenger required hospital treatment as a result of the crash and the accused was released from custody at the completion of the police investigation to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on May 2, 2024. The accused was also was subjected to a tow and impound invoice for seven days for the involved E-Bike and a 90 day drivers licence suspension as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Inmate Arrested In Prison

(KINGSTON, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad has laid charges after a serious assault at Millhaven Institution, west of Kingston.

On April 15, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m. an inmate suffered serious injuries when he was assaulted with an edged weapon. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment and is recovering.

The Correctional Service of Canada contacted the Penitentiary Squad following the incident and has assisted with the investigation.

On April 18, 2024, members of the Penitentiary Squad arrested inmate Ekene ANGIBO, age 24, and charged him under the Criminal Code with:

  • Aggravated assault, sec. 268
  • Assault with a weapon, sec. 267(a)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, sec. 88
  • Carrying a concealed weapon, sec. 90

The accused remains in the custody of the Correctional Service of Canada and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on April 19, 2024.

$80,000 Meth Bust

(Kirkland Lake, ON) – An early morning search warrant at a residence in Kirkland Lake leads to charges.

On April 18, 2024, members of the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the Kirkland Lake OPP, OPP Tactical Response Unit (TRU) and the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a search warrant at a residence on McCamus Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

A search of the residence led to the seizure of cellular phones and drugs suspected to be fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $80,000.

As a result of the investigation:

Jessica BENSON, 38-years-old, of Kirkland Lake was charged with:        

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-opioid

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

Melissa BURNSIDE, 39-years-old, of Kirkland Lake was charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-opioid

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

Jody MULVIHILL, 49-years-old, of Kirkland Lake was charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-opioid

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

The accused persons were held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody. They are scheduled to re-appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 24, 2024.

Drug Bust At RIDE

(Kirkland Lake, ON) – The Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged three people with drug related offences.

On April 14, 2024, a vehicle entered a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program in the Town of Kirkland Lake. Members of the Kirkland Lake OPP determined one of the occupants was wanted on an outstanding warrant.  

As a result of the investigation, police located and seized drugs suspected to be fentanyl, methamphetamine, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and drug paraphernalia with an approximate street value of $6,320.00.

As a result of the investigation, Karen PICHE, 41-years-old, of Senneterre, Quebec was charged with:        

–      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

–      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-opioid

–      Possession of a Schedule III substance

–      Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

–      Fail to comply with probation order – three counts

Jean Francois BARIL-LANDRY, 38-years-old, of Senneterre, Quebec was charged with:

–      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-opioid

–      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

–      Fail to comply with probation order – two counts

Nathaniel AUMOND, 36-years-old, of Amos, Quebec was charged with:

–      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine.

–      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-opioid

–      Fail to surrender insurance card

Jean Francois BARIL-LANDRY and Nathaniel AUMOND have been released and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 30, 2024.

Kim PICHE was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.

OPP Claim Driver Impaired By Drugs, Then Charge For Failure To Provide Sample

(BROCKTON, ON) – On April 18, 2024, at 7:11 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a two vehicle collision on Highway 9 near Bruce Road 3 in Brockton.

One of the involved drivers displayed signs of impairment. Officers believed that the driver was impaired by drug; they were subsequently placed under arrest.

Cheyenne FORTUNE, 31-years-old, from the Municipality of Brockton was charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand

Hit & Run: One From Listowel Arrested – Name Released

(NORTH PERTH) – Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual after a fail to remain collision on Line 87 in the Municipality of North Perth.

On April 14th, 2024, just before 4:30 p.m., police responded to a single vehicle collision on Line 87 east of Road 175. It was reported that a pickup truck left the roadway, and the driver was observed leaving the area. 

Justin SAGE, a 33-year-old resident of Listowel has been charged with:

    -Dangerous operation

    -Fail to remain

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on May 13th, 2024.

Drug Bust

(SD&G, ON)- The Stormont Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and OPP Community Street Crime Unit have charged one individual with trafficking illegal drugs. 

On April 17, 2024, the East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with the assistance of the East Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and SD&G OPP officers, executed a warrant at a residence on the 100 block of Montreal Road in Cornwall. One individual was arrested. Investigators seized suspected opioid (Percocet) and cocaine, along with firearms and Canadian currency.

Ryan BALSTON, age 32 of Cornwall was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition- three counts.
  • Breach of Firearms Regulation-Store firearm or restricted weapon- two counts
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – two counts.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Cornwall Court at a later date.

Fake Gold Scammers Arrested

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges following a complaint of two individuals selling fake gold jewellery.

On April 18, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Quinte West OPP received a complaint whereby the victim was defrauded of over $3700. The victim was approached by the accused, at a service station on the 401, selling gold jewellery. After spending $3735 on rings and chains, the victim advised they wished to purchase more, leaving the service station with the agreement the accused would follow them to a destination where the victim could retrieve more funds. Upon closer inspection of the purchased jewellery the victim contacted the OPP, whilst the accused were still following their vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop on Glen Miller Road, Quinte West, and as a result of the investigation two individuals were arrested, resulting in a further $3116 cash, 9.8oz of fake gold jewellery and five counterfeit Apple Air Pods being confiscated.

Sergiu OINESCU, 43 years old from Scarborough, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 – in Canada
  • Fraud under $5000

Ionela BOCEANU, 42 years old from Scarborough, has been charged with Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 – in Canada

Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on May 16, 2024.

Brandishing Weapon Leads To Arrest

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual has been charged following an investigation into an assault involving the brandishing of an edged weapon.

At approximately 1:05 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated an assault on Evergreen Hill Road in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that four individuals were involved in a dispute on public property, during which one of them brandished an edged weapon. No injuries were reported.

As a result, one individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 20-year-old Donato D’AGOSTINO of Norfolk County:

  • Assault with a weapon.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Police Seize Numerous Weapons

(LYNDHURST, ON) – TheLeeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a 50 year-old male for several offences, including harassment and firearms charges.

On March 16, 2024, members of the OPP began an investigation, and the accused was subsequently warned with trespassing and warned regarding criminal harassment.

In the following weeks, incidents continued, including several attempted to break-ins at the victim’s residence. The investigation also determined the accused possessed at least one firearm, but was not a valid Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) holder.

On April 14, 2024, a search warrant was executed, and the accused was arrested without incident. Officers seized the following:

  •        1 x crossbow
  •        1 x air handgun
  •        1 x air rifle
  •        1 x bolt action rifle
  •        1 x semi-automatic rifle
  •        1 x semi-automatic shotgun
  •        1 x lever action rifle
  •        1 x pump action rifle
  •        Various ammunition
  •        Over 1.5 grams of Psilocybin (aka “Magic Mushrooms”)

As a result of the investigation, the accused is now facing the following Criminal Code charges:

  •        Break-and-enter dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence – two counts
  •        Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition – two counts
  •        Criminal harassment
  •        Harassing communications
  •        Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose
  •        Unauthorized possession of a firearm

The following charges were also laid:

  •        Enter the premises when entry prohibited – two counts (Trespass to Property Act)
  •        Possession of a Schedule III Substance (Controlled Drug and Substances Act)

The accused was held into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in the City of Brockville on April 19, 2024. The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim.

One Brandishing Weapon Arrested In Kincardine

(KINCARDINE, ON) – On March 3, 2024, at 9:53 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a male brandishing a handgun outside of a business along Queen Street in Kincardine.

On April 16, 2024, the South Bruce OPP Major Crimes Unit assisted by the West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (WR TRU) and the West Region Emergency Response Team (WR ERT) executed a search warrant at a residence in South Bruce.

As a result of the executed search warrant, police seized three imitation firearms and ammunition.

The OPP has charged Gerry SIMOES, 42-years-old, of the Municipality of South Bruce with:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Imitation Firearm – Use while committing offence
  • Possession of an imitation firearm weapon for a dangerous purpose

The accused was held for a bail hearing and was subsequently remanded into custody.

$36,000 Drug Bust In Paisley: RITCHIE, DOWLING & FLEMING

(PAISLEY, ON) – On April 18, 2024, at 2:31 a.m., officers with the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped to check a vehicle along Queen Street North in Paisley.

Three occupants were identified by officers where one was found to be in contravention of their release conditions, another was subject to an active warrant. A search incident to arrest led to the seizure of a large quantity of illicit drugs.

As a result of the investigation, the South Bruce OPP have charged:

William DOWLING, 59-years-old, from the Municipality of Saugeen Shores with:

  • Poss. of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (3 counts)
  • Poss. of a Schedule I substance

Brendan FLEMING, 39-years-old, from the Municipality of Kincardine with:

  • Poss. of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (3 counts)
  • Failure to comply with release order
  • Poss. of a Schedule I substance

Joanna RITCHIE, 29-years-old, from Saugeen First Nation with:

  • Poss. of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (3 counts)
  • Poss. of a Schedule I substance

The estimated street value of the seized drugs is approximately $36,600.00 – The accused parties were held for a bail hearing in Walkerton.

Patrick LAFLEUR Was Arrested

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – A driver was charged with impaired driving after police conducted a traffic stop.

On April 18, 2024, shortly after 1:30 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop with a possible impaired driver on Main Street, West Nipissing.

The driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Patrick LAFLEUR, 22 years-of-age, from West Nipissing, was charged with, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 2, 2024, in North Bay.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
