Tyler KERR Was Arrested

(TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) – The Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one person with impaired driving.

On April 27, 2024, shortly after 3:30 a.m., members of the Temiskaming OPP stopped a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act violation on McKelvie Street in the City of Temiskaming Shores. Through investigation, police determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and transported to the Temiskaming Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Tyler KERR, 33 years-of-age of Temiskaming Shores was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Fail to comply with probation order

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 28, 2024. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Robin WHITESIDE

On April 26, 2024, shortly before 8:30 p.m., members of the Temiskaming OPP stopped a motor vehicle hauling an unsafe load on Highway 11 in the City of Temiskaming Shores. Through investigation, police determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and transported to the Temiskaming Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Robin WHITESIDE, 52 years-of-age of Sudbury was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 28, 2024. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Susan Button Was Arrested

(TERRACE BAY, ON) – A call for service has resulted in one individual facing multiple charges including impaired driving.

On April 27, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., members of the Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment received a call for service regarding a possible impaired driver in the Town of Terrace Bay.

Officers patrolled and observed the vehicle on Terrace Heights Drive in Terrace Bay. A traffic stop was conducted. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for impaired driving.

The driver was brought back to the Schreiber OPP Detachment for further testing.

Susan Button, 32-years-old of Terrace Bay has been charged with:

·      Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

·      Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence

·      Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance

The accused is now facing a 90-Day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-Day vehicle impoundment. The accused was released from custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Schreiber on a later date.

Road Rage: One Dead

(AURORA, ON) – Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Highway Safety Division (HSD) – Aurora Detachment, are investigating a collision that resulted in one fatality.

On Friday, April 26th, 2024, at 5:38p.m., the OPP were called to a six vehicle collision on Highway 400, near Simcoe road 89, in Innisfil. A witness reported a road rage incident in the southbound lanes between two vehicles that resulted in an initial collision between them. One of the vehicles crossed the centre median, rolled and was struck by a pick-up truck in the northbound lanes. The driver of the vehicle that rolled, a 21-year-old male from Mississauga was pronounced deceased. The driver of the pick-up truck sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been laid until this point. Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call the Aurora OPP detachment at (905) 841-5777.

Death In Meaford

(MEAFORD, ON) – On April 27, 2024, at 11:08 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a possible drowning in the Meaford harbour.

Emergency responders pulled an individual from the water who was unresponsive. An 81-year-old resident of Meaford was subsequently pronounced deceased.

The incident remains under investigation, there is no concern for public safety at this time.

William DENBY – Threats

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and members of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service (KLPS) have conducted a joint investigation resulting in charges being laid against a 65-year-old from Fenelon Township.

On April 25, 2024, William DENBY was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Criminal Harassment
  • Uttering Threats
  • Intimidation of a Justice System Participant

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Abdul RAKEEB Was Arrested

(MUNICIPALITY OF BRIGHTON, ON) – One individual has been charged with being intoxicated in a public place and causing mischief while later in custody.

On April 25, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m., the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a disturbance on Dundas Street in the Municipality of Brighton. Further reports were received pertaining to the same person at a commercial premises off Prince Edward Street.

Police shortly located the accused causing a further disturbance to passing motorists before being arrested and transported to a nearby detachment where mischief was caused to government property inside.

Abdul RAKEEB, 31-years-old, from Brighton has been charged with:

  • Being intoxicated in a public place
  • Mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

Marshall MESSON Was Arrested

(LONG LAKE 58 FIRST NATION, ON) – A traffic complaint has resulted in one individual being arrested and charged with impaired operation.

On April 25, 2024, shortly after 3:00 a.m., members of the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a suspected impaired driver on Beaver Street in Long Lake 58 First Nation. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Greenstone OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Marshall MESSON, 24-years-old, of Long Lake 58 First Nation, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act, and Liquor Licence Control Act with:

·      Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·      Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container or Liquor

·      Drive Motor Vehicle – No Insurance

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Greenstone on May 29, 2024.

Fatal Collision

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – Atwo vehicle collision on Highway 401 in the Westbound lanes in Thames Centre leaves one involved occupant deceased.

On April 26, 2024, at 2:15 a.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oxford County OPP, Middlesex-London Paramedic Service and local Fire, were dispatched to the westbound lanes of Highway 401 between Culloden and Putnam Roads in Thames Centre, for the report of a serious collision involving two vehicles.

One individual, a 24-year-old of London, was pronounced deceased at scene as a result of the collision.

The driver of the second vehicle was transported to hospital as a precaution.

The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

The roadway was closed for the investigation between Culloden Road in Oxford County and Putnam Road in Middlesex County for six hours.

2 Arrested Following Break & Enter

(HALIBURTON COUNTY)  Members of the Haliburton Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) / Haliburton Highlands Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) have made two arrests following an investigation into two reported break and enters in the County of Haliburton.

On April 12, 2024, members of the Haliburton Highlands OPP were at a residence in Haliburton and observed property and a vehicle related to prior reported break and enters in the County of Haliburton. The vehicle was seized, and a search warrant was obtained. This resulted in the recovery of stolen property.

Through this investigation two people were identified and later arrested.  

Katlyn HOLLANDS (age 32) of Haliburton has been charged with:

·        Possession of stolen property under 5000

·        Possession of stolen property over 5000

This accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden on June 5, 2024.

Joseph BELL (age 32) of Peterborough has been charged with:

·        Possession of stolen property under 5000

·        Possession of stolen property over 5000

·        Fail to comply with probation order (2 counts)

This accused was held for a bail hearing.

Serious Assault: Wayne FLEGEL & Christopher MCCANNA-WRIGHT Arrested

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two people following a serious assault in Renfrew.

On April 24, 2024, around 11:00 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance and located two males with stab wounds on Airth Boulevard. Both were transported to hospital by Renfrew County Paramedics with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two people were arrested without incident on April 25, 2024.

Wayne FLEGEL, age 60 of Renfrew, has been charged with two counts of attempt to commit murder. This accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 29, 2024.

Christopher MCCANNA-WRIGHT, age 34 of Renfrew has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon. This accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 26, 2024.

Dillan BAKER Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual has been charged following an investigation into an incident of impaired driving.

At approximately 5:47 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, officers from Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to a 9-1-1 call from a concerned citizen regarding a possible impaired driver on Imperial Street in Delhi, Norfolk County.

Shortly after receiving the call, patrolling officers located vehicle on McDowell Road East in Charlotteville, Norfolk County.

After assessing the driver’s sobriety at the roadside, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 30-year-old Dillan BAKER of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand,
  • Dangerous operation,
  • Driving while under suspension,
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order.

The accused was detained in custody and is scheduled to appear at a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe.

Jason AUBERTIN Was Arrested

(WEST NIPISSINGON) – Police arrested and charged one person after responding to a disturbance.

On April 24, 2024, shortly after 7:30 p.m., members of the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance on King Street, West Nipissing.

Police attended the scene and located a conscious person laying down on the street. While assisting the individual, they became assaultive and began uttering threats during the investigation.

As a result of the investigation: Jason AUBERTIN, 36 years-of-age, from West Nipissing was arrested and charged with:

  • Causing a disturbance
  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest
  • Disarming a Peace Officer
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was held for Bail Court and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 26, 2024, in North Bay.

Paul BREKELMANS – Drunk Driving

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – Police responded to a traffic complaint and made an arrest for impaired driving in the Town of Ingersoll.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., on Wednesday, April 23, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oxford Detachment, responded to a traffic complaint of a suspected impaired driver. Police located the vehicle, observed signs of impairment, and initiated a traffic stop.

After speaking to the driver, police observed further signs of impairment and made an arrest.

After conducting further testing at the roadside and at the detachment, Paul BREKELMANS, 25 years-of-age of Thamesford, was charged with the following Criminal Code offence:

·      Operation While Impaired -Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, located in Woodstock, on May 30, 2024.

Francesco (Frank) Benincasa Was Arrested

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Anti-Rackets Branch (ARB) Economic Crimes and Corruption Unit has laid charges in a multi-jurisdictional fraud investigation.

In July 2018, the North Bay OPP Detachment received several fraud complaints in relation to a $6 million-dollar syndicated mortgage investment into BioNorth Technology Real Estate Ltd (2423704 Ontario Inc.), also operating as the BioNorth Tech Group. 

In January 2019, the OPP’s ARB Economic Crimes and Corruption Unit assumed the investigation due to its complex and multi-jurisdictional nature.

As a result of the investigation, police charged one person under the Criminal Code in connection with the investigation.

Francesco (Frank) Benincasa, age 59, of Concord, Ontario, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Fraud Over $5000
  • False Pretences
  • Use of a Forged Document

The accused was arrested on March 13, 2024, and was subsequently released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on April 30, 2024. 

According to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC), Canadians reported losing more than $568 million to frauds in 2023. It is estimated that only five to 10 per cent of victims report frauds to the CAFC or law enforcement.
