Fatal Collision – Name Of Deceased Released

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – Officers from the Collingwood Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a serious collision on Grey Road 19 south of the 6th Line in the Town of The Blue Mountains.

On April 26, 2024, at approximately 10:22 p.m., officers and emergency crews responded to a single vehicle collision. The vehicle was located in a ditch with a solo occupant. The driver was pronounced deceased at scene.

The victim has been identified as Aven Akerman, 20 years of age, of Midland.

The investigation is ongoing. The Collingwood Detachment is requesting that if anyone witnessed the incident, has video surveillance or dash cam footage that may assist investigators, to please call OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

18 Year Old Student Arrested For Threats

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating a threat that occurred at a local secondary school.

On April 29, 2024, at approximately 12:00 p.m., OPP responded to a reported threats call on Scotland Street, Fergus. It was reported that a student had been threatened by another student during a dispute. Police responded and an 18-year-old was arrested.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information about this event to contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – Two individuals have been charged following separate investigations into incidents of impaired driving.

At approximately 10:41 a.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a two-vehicle collision on Simcoe Street in Middleton, Norfolk County. No injuries were reported.

After the collision, which took place in the parking lot of a business, one of the vehicles fled the scene.

Responding officers later found the vehicle at a location on Highway 3 in Middleton, Norfolk County.

After assessing the driver’s sobriety at the roadside, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 59-year-old Allan SULTAN of Norfolk County:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.

Around 12:04 p.m. on the same day, officers from the Norfolk County OPP Detachment responded to a 9-1-1 call about a potential impaired driver on Cockshutt Road in Townsend, Norfolk County.

Shortly after, the responding officers located the vehicle on Cockshutt Road in Townsend, Norfolk County.

After assessing the driver’s sobriety at the roadside, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 41-year-old Jake WATERS of Glanbrook, Ontario:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

Steven NAGY Was Arrested

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual has been charged following an investigation into a fraud at a local business.

At approximately 10:58 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated a report of an unwanted person at an address on Queensway West in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that a customer was unwilling to leave the premises and had also declined to pay for consumable goods.

As a result, the individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offences is 59-year-old Steven NAGY of Norfolk County:

  • Food and lodging fraud,
  • Fail to leave premises when directed.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

Kayla QUIBELL – Assault

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – One individual has been charged as a result of an investigation into an assault.

At approximately 11:29 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated an assault at an address on Queensway West in Simcoe, Norfolk County.

It was determined that three individuals had a dispute on the premises, resulting in physical assaults on two of them.

As a result, one individual was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 25-year-old Kayla QUIBELL of Norfolk County:

  • Assault (two counts).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

Mitcho BOGLIS Was Arrested

(SHELBURNE, ON) – Members from the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual as a result of break and enter to a restaurant on Main Street in the Town of Shelburne.

On April 29, 2024, shortly after 1:00 a.m., Dufferin OPP responded to the report of a break and enter at a local restaurant in Shelburne. Upon arrival, police noted the rear door ajar and broken wine bottles inside the establishment. The investigation revealed the suspect stole alcohol.

Officers reviewed security footage and were able to identify the male suspect. The suspect was charged accordingly and released from police custody.

A few hours later officers responded to a second break and enter to the same address. After reviewing video surveillance, the suspect was confirmed to be the same male police charged earlier that day. The investigation confirmed the male stole alcohol again.

As a result of the two investigations, Mitcho BOGLIS, 70-year-old from Shelburne has been charged with:

·      Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence – (two counts)

·      Theft Under $5000 – (two counts)

·      Failure to comply with undertaking

Chrystal LAMBERT Was Arrested

(TOWNSHIP OF ALNWICK-HALDIMAND, ON) – Officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged an individual as a result of a theft and fraud investigation.

On March 9, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., OPP responded to a theft of a bank card belonging to a customer who was at a commercial premises in Roseneath. Unauthorized transactions had occurred at another nearby premises using the stolen card and the suspect had left the area prior to police arrival.

OPP identified an individual associated to an address in Oshawa and as a result of the investigation, officers located the accused on April 26, 2024.

Chrystal LAMBERT, 35-years-old, from Oshawa has been charged with the following offences:

·        Theft under $5000

·        Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

·        Fraud under $5,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH, CLEARVIEW AND SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIPS, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two individuals with impaired driving in one day.

On April 28, 2024, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Huronia West OPP responded to a single all-terrain vehicle (ATV) rollover collision at a residence on Union Boulevard in Wasaga Beach. The driver was transported to the local hospital with non-life altering injuries. During the investigation, officers determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol. As a result, Ashley Jakelyn Nicole BUCHAN, 29-year-old of Wasaga Beach, has been charged with the following:

  • Failing to Provide a Breath Sample

At approximately 06:50 a.m., Huronia West OPP responded to a single motor vehicle in the ditch on Crossland Road in Springwater Township. Officers quickly determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol. As a result, John Michael BLACKMORE, 35-year-old of Collingwood, has been charged with the following:

  • Adult Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Adult Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

Both accused are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Joshua GEARIN Was Arrested

(TAY TOWNSHIP,ON) – A vehicle stop for an traffic violation has lead to drinking and driving charges for a Tay Township resident. An officer from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment made a traffic stop on Park Street, Victoria Harbour on April 28, 2024 at approximately 2:41 am and upon speaking with the lone driver entered into an impaired driving investigation.

As a result of this investigation Joshua GEARIN 30 years of Tay Township has been charged criminally with the offence of Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 30, 2024, was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Detachment patrol officers set up 13 Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) programs checking 250 drivers for signs of impairment over the April 25-29, 2024 time frame in an effort to increase road safety here in North Simcoe.

Shawn MERCIER Was Arrested

(PERTH, ON) – A Lanark Highlands resident has been charged after a traffic stop in Perth.

Members of the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle on Drummond Street on April 28, 2024, shortly after 1:30 a.m.

The officers demanded that the driver submit to a test using the approved roadside alcohol screening device. The driver refused.

Shawn MERCIER, age 32 was charged under the Criminal Code with refusal to comply with demand. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on May 27, 2024.

Shakhboz YULDASHEV Was Arrested

(MONTAGUE TWP, ON) – A Toronto resident has been charged following a single vehicle collision on Roger Stevens Drive.

Officers with the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Smiths Falls Police Service, Lanark County Paramedics and Montague Township Fire Department responded to a collision shortly before 5:30 a.m. on April 27, 2024, in Montague Township. A car had left Roger Stevens Drive, just west of Rosedale Road. It struck a hydro pole and flipped over.

The driver was transported to an Ottawa hospital with serious injuries. Testing conducted at the scene and at the hospital resulted in the driver being arrested.

Shakhboz YULDASHEV, age 37 of Toronto has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on June 3, 2024.

Carl MARSTON Was Arrested Again

(PERTH, ON) – An Ottawa resident faces new charges after being arrested for failing to appear in court.

The individual was arrested April 26, 2024, by members of the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on multiple warrants, including one for failing to appear in court.

When officers attempted to conduct the required fingerprinting and photographing of an accused, the individual resisted and refused officers’ efforts.

Carl MARSTON, age 33, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Obstruct a Peace officer
  • Failure to attend court

The accused remains in custody with an appearance scheduled before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on April 29, 2024.

Kathleen VANNATTER Was Arrested

(WEST ELGIN, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County Detachment located and investigated a vehicle after a Good Samaritan reported a suspicious vehicle in the Municipality of West Elgin.

On April 28, 2024, at approximately 12:20 a.m., members of the Elgin County OPP located the vehicle on McMurchy Line near Graham Road, Municipality of West Elgin.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test was administered, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Chatham OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Kathleen VANNATTER, a 60-year-old from West Elgin was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on May 28, 2024.

The OPP would like to take this opportunity to thank the individual who contacted police and reported this incident. As a direct result, officers were able to safely locate the vehicle and take the driver into custody.

Mitchell LYONS Was Arrested Again

(BANCROFT, ON) – Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver while conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) program.

On April 27, 2024, shortly after 12:30 a.m., officers stop a vehicle while conducting a R.I.D.E. in the town of Bancroft. The investigation resulted in the driver being arrested. 

Mitchell LYONS, a 33-year-old from Campbellford has been charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code

Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Operation while impaired – alcohol

Fail to comply with probation order.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on May 14, 2024.

Darren LEUKERT – Drunk Driving

(TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) – The Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged one person with impaired driving.

On April 27, 2024, shortly after 9:30 a.m., members of the Temiskaming OPP stopped a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act violation on Highway 11 in the City of Temiskaming Shores. Through investigation, police determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and transported to the Temiskaming Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Darren LEUKERT, 45 years-of-age of New Liskeard was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 28, 2024. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
