Fatal Collision & Fire

(GRAVENHURST, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is asking for the public’s assistance after a collision on Stephenson Road 1 in Bracebridge that resulted in one person’s death.

On Sunday November 17, 2024, just before 2:00 a.m. officers from the Huntsville and Bracebridge OPP detachments, along with Muskoka EMS and Bracebridge Fire Department, responded to reports of a vehicle fire on Stephenson Road 1 East in Bracebridge. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree before catching on fire and the sole occupant, a 41-year-old Port Sydney man, was pronounced deceased.

Police are asking anyone who may have surveillance footage in that area or information to call Bracebridge OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Mark SETHI – Sexual Assault

(Gravenhurst, ON) – Members of the Bracebridge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Muskoka Crime Unit have charged a Gravenhurst resident with sexual assault.

In October 2024, the Muskoka Crime Unit began investigating a historical sexual assault alleged to have occurred between 1999 and 2000 at a former licensed establishment in Gravenhurst. As a result of the investigation, Mark SETHI, 58 years of age, of Gravenhurst, was arrested and charged with Sexual Assault CC 271 and Indecent Act CC 173(1)(b).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, on November 26, 2024, to answer to the charges.

Fraser MECKIFFE – Impaired Driving

(GRAVENHURST, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one driver with an impaired driving offense on September 26, 2024.

On September 26, 2024 at 1:15 a.m., Bracebridge OPP officers responded to concerns from a member of the public about the condition of the occupants of a vehicle after they threw a beer can out of their window while driving on Muskoka Beach Road in Gravenhurst. Officers located the vehicle at a quick service restaurant near Bethune Drive and subsequently arrested and charged 33-year-old Fraser MECKIFFE of Mississauga with Operation While Impaired-Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on October 5, 2024 to answer to his charges.

Terry TRAYNOR Was Arrested Again

(GRAVENHURST, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person after a break and enter to a commercial business in Gravenhurst.

On September 4th, 2024, at 10:20 p.m., Bracebridge OPP officers were dispatched to a break and enter to a grocery store on First Street North in Gravenhurst after the store had closed for the day. A man slipped into the building through an employee door and attempted to steal a quantity of consumable goods. Employees responded to the intruder, who assaulted on employee while attempting to follow through with the theft. Officers responded quickly, were on scene within minutes and placed the intruder under arrest.

Police have charged 52-year-old Terry TRAYNOR of Gravenhurst with the following:

  • Break and Enter CC 348(1)(b)
  • Assault Cause Bodily Harm CC 267(c)
  • Assault with a Weapon CC 267(a)
  • Robbery with Violence CC 343(a)
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose CC 88
  • Obstruct Person in the Lawful Execution of a Process CC 129(c)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation CC 733.1(1)

The accused was held in custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge for a bail hearing.

2 More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(GRAVENHURST, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two drivers with impaired driving offences, twenty-four hours apart, on Southwood Road in Gravenhurst.

On July 1st and 2nd, 2024, members of the Central Region Highway Safety Division Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) Team conducted Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) checks on Southwood Road in Gravenhurst.

At 2:15 p.m. on July 1st, a vehicle entered the checkpoint and officers quickly entered into an investigation into the driver’s sobriety. Police subsequently arrested and charged 27-year-old Taylor MULLEN of Keswick, ON with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a), Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b), Operation while Prohibited CC 320.18(1)(a) and Driving while Suspended HTA 53(1). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 6, 2024, to answer to his charges.

At 2:30 p.m. on July 2nd, a vehicle entered the checkpoint and officers began an investigation into the driver’s sobriety. Police have arrested and charged 67-year-old Stephen EDELL of Toronto, ON with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 6, 2024, to answer to his charges.

Members of the public can continue to expect to see RIDE programs throughout Muskoka. Impaired driving charges can result in an immediate 90-day drivers license suspension and a minimum 7-day vehicle impoundment. Also, as of December 2018, police officers may demand a breath sample from anyone driving a motor vehicle on any street or highway, for the purposes of determining the presence of alcohol.

Dwayne CLODD – Assault With Weapon


(GRAVENHURST, ON) – 
Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a local man with firearms offences after an altercation over the weekend.

On July 6, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. Bracebridge OPP officers responded to reports of a dispute at a local licensed establishment that escalated to an allegation that threats were made. Officers located the suspect nearby and conducted an investigation into the nature of the threats and subsequently arrested and charged 41-year-old Dwayne CLODD of Gravenhurst with the following offenses:

  • Assault with a Weapon CC 267(a)
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death CC 264.1(1)(a)
  • Firearm- Use while Committing Offence CC 85(1)(a)
  • Possession of Imitation Weapon for Dangerous Purpose CC 88

The accused was held in custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge for a bail hearing on Monday, July 8, 2024.

Travis SHELTON Was Arrested Again

(GRAVENHURST, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person with several offenses related to ongoing investigations into break and enters in Gravenhurst.

Bracebridge OPP, with the assistance of the Muskoka Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), has been investigating several break and enters into business locations that have occurred in the town of Gravenhurst in April and May, 2024. As a result of the investigation, police identified a suspect and on May 6, 2024, attempted to execute an arrest of that person in Gravenhurst. The suspect fled on a bicycle and a search was conducted into the late evening with the assistance of the OPP K9 unit and OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), however the search was unsuccessful in locating the suspect.

At 8:00 a.m. on June 7, 2024, police were dispatched to a break and enter that occurred at the Cultural Healing Centre on the Wahta Mohawk First Nation after the manager noticed a broken window while opening the centre for the day. The investigation revealed that the suspect was the same person related to the ongoing investigation in the town of Gravenhurst. Officers attended an address nearby and located the suspect, who surrendered himself to police.

Police have charged 30-year-old Travis SHELTON of Gravenhurst, ON with the following offenses:

  • Break and Enter CC 348(1)(b) X 3
  • Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling CC 349(1)
  • Mischief Under $5000 CC 430(4)
  • Resist Peace Officer CC 129(a)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation CC 733.1(1) X 2

He has been held in custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge for a bail hearing on June 10, 2024.
