(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at approximately 5:33 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Grey Rd. 4, east of Durham Rd. B, in the Township of Southgate.

The vehicle, a 2012 Ford SUV, was observed travelling on the shoulder of Grey Rd. 4 at a slow speed prior to driving down a steep embankment into the east ditch and continuing for several meters into an open field.

Police arrived and found that the driver had been drinking alcohol. A part bottle of alcohol was seized from the vehicle.

The driver was transported to hospital by ambulance as a precaution. She was arrested for impaired driving. Breath tests conducted indicated she had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

Barbara DAYE, 60, of the Township of Southgate, was charged with impaired driving and over 80 milligrams, as well as driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor under the Liquor Licence Act.

She is to appear in Court in Owen Sound on Thursday, June 19, 2014.

(Blind River, ON) – On May 29, 2014 at 4:40 p.m. officer from the East Algoma detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call of a collision involving a car and a tractor trailer 20 kilometres east of Blind River in Spragge. Upon arrival police learned a westbound car crossed into the path of an eastbound tractor trailer. The collision caused the two vehicles to catch fire and skid eastbound coming to rest in the ditch. Township of the Northshore Fire Department attended the scene to extinguish the fire and both vehicles were destroyed as a result.

The driver of the tractor trailer escaped uninjured and the driver of the car was pronounced deceased at the scene. The collision resulted in Highway 17 being closed overnight to large vehicles with a detour set up for smaller vehicles.

The identity of the deceased is not being released pending notification of next of kin. The collision is still under investigation by officers from the East Algoma OPP detachment with the assistance of a Technical Traffic Collision Investigator (TTCI) from the OPP.

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers are investigating a break and enter to a Walnut Street residence in the Town of Paris, in the County of Brant.

Sometime between 7:45 a.m. and 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday May 27th, 2014, someone enter the residence and removed American currency and Canadian currency. After further investigation, the suspects may have been driving an older model pickup truck described as two toned red and white.

(LAKESHORE, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Lakeshore is currently investigating the theft of two air conditioning units from a construction site on Deer Run Trail in Lakeshore.

The units were taken between May 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. and May 19, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. from the garage of a new construction site. They are described as Comfort Star Air Conditioners and are for residential use.

A male, described as being short, white with a thin build with short blond hair, was seen leaving the area driving a late model grey or silver pickup truck.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this theft, to contact the Essex County Street Crimes Unit at 519-723-2491.

(CALEDON, ON)- On May 23, 2014, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a Chester Drive residence to investigate a break and enter. Sometime between 3:15 and 3:45 pm, suspect(s) entered the property through a side gate. Once inside the backyard, the suspect(s) entered the residence through an unlocked door. The suspect(s) stole jewellery including opal necklaces and four gold service pins.

Police are reminding residents to contact the OPP Communications Centre immediately at 1-888-310-1122 to report any suspicious activity or suspicious vehicles in the area. Information such as suspect physical descriptions, suspect vehicles and direction of travel are useful tools for investigators.

(TECUMSEH, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Essex County is reminding the public to lock their vehicles, wherever they are parked and unattended, after a string of vehicle break in’s in Tecumseh.

The area of St. Mark’s Road in Tecumseh had approximately 17 vehicles entered over a one night period last week. Several items were stolen including GPS units, phone charges, change, sunglasses, headphones, alcohol and clothing.

Police are advising the public to remove valuables from your vehicles before leaving them and ensure that your vehicle is locked.

Attached are two still photos of the suspects from the above thefts. If you recognize the persons in the photo, you are asked to contact the OPP.

If you see anything or anyone suspicious, you are asked to contact police immediately.

(South Dundas) – SD&G OPP officers are currently (30May14) at the scene of a tractor trailer overturned in the median on Highway 401, eastbound, west of Iroquois, South Dundas Township.

The collision occurred at approximately 3:38am and the eastbound lanes had initially been closed and traffic re-routed from Cardinal to Iroquois. The lanes have since been re-opened with one lane operational. This will be in effect for approximately 3 hours as the unit and its contents (non-hazardous) are removed. The male driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Motorists should take into consideration that flow of traffic will be reduced in the area and drive cautiously for the safety of personnel tending to the scene.

An investigation continues.

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – The East Algoma detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is asking for help to identify the driver of a fail to remain collision involving pedestrian.

On May 27, 2014 at 5:20 p.m. police received a call of a collision involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle on Hillside Drive north in Elliot Lake. When officers arrived they learned that a male pedestrian was crossing Hillside Drive North near Spruce Avenue when a vehicle travelling southbound on Hillside struck him and immediately left the scene. The suspect vehicle is described as an older dull black or burgundy boxy looking vehicle.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital by ambulance where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – On May 27, 2014 at approximately 3:15 p.m. a vehicle being operated by an unknown male approached a youth as he was walking from Lady Mac Kenzie Public School, on Kirkfield Road in Kirkfield. The male offered the youth a ride. The youth, who did not recognize the male, declined the offer. The incident was reported to the police on May 28, 2014.

On May 29, 2014 the OPP, working with Lady Mac Kenzie PS and the Trillium Lakelands District School Board, shared this information with the public and the male driver was subsequently identified.

Investigation confirmed that the driver believed that he was offering his neighbour’s son a ride home. This was a case of mistaken identity.

The OPP would like to thank everyone for their assistance with identifying the unknown male in such a quick manner.
