(HEARST, ON) – Following the collaborative efforts of the Members of the James Bay Hearst Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the James Bay Crime Unit, the Northeast Region Emergency Response Team, the OPP Canine Unit and OPP Helicopter, a Hearst man was apprehended shortly before 8:00 pm this evening on Front Street in the Town of Hearst, Ontario.

The 26 year old male Jean Dube of Hearst has been arrested and charged with 12 Criminal Code of Canada offences stemming from an event that occurred on May 27, 2014.

The accused stands charged with one count each of Assault, Assault cause bodily harm, Assault with a weapon, Point a firearm, Utter threats to cause death, Overcome resistance to commission of offence, Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, Careless use of firearm, Unauthorized possession of firearm, Careless storage of firearm, Personation and Fail to comply with undertaking, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is in police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane for a bail hearing on Friday May 30, 2014.

(Ear Falls, ON) – On Sunday May 25th, 2014 the Ear Falls Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received numerous complaints from the public regarding thefts from vehicles and other various property crimes that occurred at local residences and businesses.

Members from the Ear Falls OPP began an investigation into the complaints and the officers were able to identify two suspects. Both males were arrested on Tuesday May 27th, 2014.

As a result of the investigation Brandon Banning, age 19 of Ear Falls, Ontario was charged with 15 counts of Theft under $5000 contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code, Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code, Carrying a concealed weapon contrary to section 90 of the Criminal Code and failing to comply with probation order contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code.

Also a 15 year old male from Ear Falls, Ontario was charged with 15 counts of Theft under $5000 contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code and Failing to comply with a probation order contrary to section 137 of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The investigation is ongoing.

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a report of a hit and run involving a cyclist on May 28, 2014. At approximately 11:30 pm, a cyclist was travelling northbound on Veteran’s Drive and was struck by an unknown motorist.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a GMC/Chevrolet pick- up truck or SUV, metallic grey in colour. The suspect vehicle is missing a passenger side mirror. The cyclist sustained minor injuries.

(NORWICH TOWNSHIP, ON) – Members of the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members responded to a call of a male that had been thrown from his horse while travelling on Milldale Road in Norwich Township at approximately 9:00 a.m. on May 26, 2014.

OPP are advising that the male rider, 15 year old John MILLER of Norwich Township has succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation is complete.

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On May 28, 2014 Drug Enforcement Officers of the Combined Forces Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant at a Mercier Street residence in Thunder Bay.

As a result of the investigation 52-year-old Gilbert Mark NOWEGEJICK of Thunder Bay, 54-year-old Timothy ESQUEGA of Jacques Township and 43-year-old Colleen NAGOTCHI of Jacques Township were arrested and charged with three offences contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

1) Possession of Oxycodone for the Purpose of Trafficking

2) Possession of Methadone for the Purpose of Trafficking

3) Trafficking in Oxycodone

NOWEGEJICK was also charged with Breaching Firearms Regulations and Possession of Property obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Police investigators seized a total 152 – 5mg tablets of Oxycodone with a street value of $6080, 200ml of Methadone with a street value of $800, $20070 in Canadian Currency

and a 2004 Ford F250 pick up truck.

The Combined Forces Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau consists of members from the Ontario Provincial Police – Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, the Thunder Bay Police Service, the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service and the Anishnabek Police Service.

(ATIKOKAN, ON) – On May 20, 2014 officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the report of two men in a physical altercation outside a residence on Gorrie Street, Atikokan, ON.

Police investigation revealed that the accused, Oscar Daniel DESMEULES, age 40 of Atikokan, Ontario had assaulted another male with a hammer. The assault resulted in the 48 year old male victim being taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries and later released. He has subsequently been charged with Assault with a Weapon and Failing to Comply with a Probation Order.

The accused remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing scheduled for June 2, 2014 in Fort Frances, ON.
