(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON.) – Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County detachment and Haldimand County Fire Department are currently on scene of fatal fire at an Argyle Street, Caledonia, Haldimand County, ON address.

This morning Saturday June 14th, 2014 at approximately 3:36 am emergency service units responded to a 30 unit apartment building fire at the Argyle St address to find a fire which had been contained to single apartment.

The fire was brought under control in a short period of time with the rest of the building suffering water and smoke damage.

Two (2) residents have been pronounced deceased within the apartment. Three (3) other residents were transported to an area Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The remainder of the residents have been evacuated to a nearby facility for shelter.

Haldimand County Paramedics attended the scene and assessed other residents as a precaution.

The Office of the Fire Marshal will be attending the scene to conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Identities of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Argyle St is closed from Southerland St to Orkney St.

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – Collaborative efforts by the Kapuskasing Public Works, Fire Department, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and local gas company members, have resulted in the downsizing of the evacuation perimeter established on June 12, 2014.

In the early morning hours of June 13, 2014, the Kapuskasing Public Works successfully contained the gas leak and established a controlled containment area. Authorities at the scene subsequently conducted extensive air quality testing which proved to be absent of gasoline vapors.

Evacuees were then prompted to return to the safety of their homes with the assistance of the Canadian Red Cross volunteers and emergency personnel at the scene.

A small portion of Riverside Drive still remains in a state of evacuation as the Kapuskasing Public Works continues to work diligently to locate the gasoline source within the controlled containment area.

(MIDDLESEX COUNTY, ON) – On Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at approximately 12:43 p.m. Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Clarke Road near Oxford Street in the City of London, ON.

At the time of the stop, police determined that the male driver of the motor vehicle had been drinking. A roadside screening device test was administered and the driver registered a “fail”. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the Lucan OPP Detachment for further tests.

As a result of the police investigation, Paulo SEQUEIRA, age 40, of London, ON was charged with driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

He was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear (PTA) and is scheduled to appear in a London court room on July 31, 2014, to answer to the charge.

(WASAGA BEACH, ON.) – On June 10th, 2014 at approximately 10:30 p.m., members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police observed a motor vehicle on 18th Street transporting a load of wood. Upon a closer look it was determined that this wood was not properly secured on this vehicle and it was stopped.

The driver of this motor vehicle initially identified himself as another person, however Police did determine the driver’s true identity and that his licence had expired.

Charged with “Obstruct Peace Officer” and “Personation with Intent” is Steven G. DEGEER 48 years old from Wasaga Beach. First appearance is August 5th, 2014 in Collingwood court. In addition Police have charge the accused with “Insecure Load” and “Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence” both under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

(WINCHESTER, ON) – On April 17, 2014 at approximately 8:20pm, officers of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SDG) detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of found remains on Steen Road near Thompson Road, near Winchester, ON.

The results of the post mortem examination that was conducted at the Office of the Chief Coroner on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 determined that the cause of death was the result of foul play.

With the use of DNA testing, Police are now able to confirm the identity of the found human remains to be that of Raymond Arnold Collison of Chesterville. Collison was reported missing to Police in September 2009.

The SDG Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of OPP Acting Detective Inspector Jim Gorry, Criminal Investigation Branch. Anyone with information about this death, is asked to contact the SDG OPP at 613-534-2223 or 1-855-835-5677.

Numerous thefts were reported during the past week, mainly of valuables left in unlocked vehicles. Stolen items include a wallet, loose change, an iPod, charging cords for electronic devices, and sunglasses. The thefts occurred in the following areas: Kunopaskie Road, Highway 132, Queen Street, Raglan Street South, and Campbell Drive. Vehicle owners are reminded to remove valuables from their vehicles, and to lock their vehicles when not in use.

A light blue CCM bike was stolen from a driveway in Renfrew. The theft was reported on June 12. The bike had been left leaning against a shed on Bonnechere Street North. Provincial Constable Jamie Prince is investigating.

One male is facing charges after police investigated a report of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17 near Renfrew. On June 8 at 2:55pm police attended and stopped a vehicle being driven erratically on Highway 17 near O’Brien Road. The male driver was arrested for impaired driving and a quantity of marihuana was seized. Robert DELOUGHERY 77 of Madawaska Valley Township was charged with impaired driving and possession of marihuana. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on July 23. Provincial Constable Tina Hunt investigated.

A vacant residence on Black Donald Road was broken into. The break in was reported on June 6, and the only item stolen was a walker. Minor damage was done in the residence. Provincial Constable Tamara Dube is investigating.

Jewelry was stolen from a residence on Burnstown Road sometime prior to May 20. There was no sign of forced entry. Rings and a medic alert bracelet are missing from the home. Provincial Constable Tina Hunt is investigating.

Someone attempted to break into a garage on Barry Avenue in Renfrew between 9-11 June. A door knob was damaged and pry marks were observed. Entry was not gained and nothing was stolen. Provincial Constable Jamie Prince is investigating.

An arrest warrant has been issued for a male after he fled from police following a stop for dangerous driving. On Sunday June 8 at 3:45am Sgt Don Francis was patrolling in the area of an after prom party on Rice Line in Admaston/Bromley Township. He observed a vehicle driving erratically in a field near tents where people were spending the night. The vehicle drove onto Rice Line and the officer stopped the vehicle. As the officer approached the driver began to pull away. The officer reached in the vehicle and struggled with the driver in an attempt to stop him from driving away. The vehicle was stopped and the driver fled over a fence. The officer deployed his conducted energy weapon several times, but the male was able to flee prior to being handcuffed. Further investigation revealed the male was breaching conditions of an undertaking, and operating a stolen vehicle. Dylan JUDD 20, of Admaston/Bromley Township is wanted for dangerous driving, assaulting a peace officer, theft of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and 3 counts of breach of an undertaking. (CARLETON PLACE, ON) – On May 24, 2014 at approximately 7:20 pm Carleton Place Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were approached on Mill Street by a woman who was concerned about a female she had seen earlier by the Mississippi River. It appeared that the female was confused and wet from being in the river.

Officers checked the river shoreline in the area of Mill Street and Princess Street and observed a female in neck high water clinging onto branches of a bush on the shoreline. She appeared to be weak, cold and unable to speak. Two officers were able to physically pull the female from the swift moving water. The 55 year old Carleton Place woman was taken to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries and further assessment.

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On June 12, 2014, just after 9:30 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge pickup truck, at Park Avenue and Lacroix Street in Chatham.

Subsequent OPP traffic investigation at roadside revealed that the driver’s licence was suspended and that he was operating the vehicle without insurance. Further investigation led to the seizure of a small amount of suspected Fentanyl.

As a result, the driver, 20 year old Matthew SETON, from Chatham, has been charged with the following:

Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance, under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Driving While Under Suspension (x2), contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance, under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

The driver is scheduled to appear in a Chatham court on July 17, 2014, to answer to the charges.

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) of the Bracebridge detachment is investigating a daytime break and enter on Denniss Drive in Bracebridge.

On June 12, 2014 at 1:25 pm the OPP were called to attend an address on Denniss Drive in the Town of Bracebridge to investigate a reported break and enter.

The residence was found to have been broken into while the owners were away for a short time. The suspect(s) stole multiple items and left the residence quickly.

(CALEDON, ON) – On June 13, 2014 at approximately 2:25 am, an off-duty officer contacted the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to report a possible impaired driver on Mayfield Road, west of The Gore Road. The off-duty officer reported that the driver had swerved into the eastbound lane while travelling westbound. The off-duty officer took evasive action to prevent a motor vehicle collision. The suspect driver stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road and spoke with the off-duty officer. When Caledon OPP officers arrived on the scene spoke to the male driver, they immediately detected a strong odour of alcohol on his breath. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to Detachment for testing.

In conclusion, Walter WATSON, 54, of Richmond Hill was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Over 80 and Dangerous Driving of a Motor Vehicle.

The Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on June 26, 2014.
