(ESSEX, ON) – On Sunday, June 15, 2014 at approximately 5:20 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Essex was called to attend a motor vehicle collision on Talbot Street South, where the suspect vehicle had left the scene.

Witnesses were able to identify the vehicle by the licence plate number and police received another report of the same vehicle driving erratically on Concession 12 in Essex shortly thereafter.

Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle which had driven into the north ditch on Concession 12, just west of Essex County Road 15 in Essex.

Officers spoke to the sole occupant and driver of the vehicle, who was not injured, and determined that she was impaired.

She was arrested at the scene.

Jeanne ELLIOT, age 48, of Essex has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Exceed 80 Milligrams of Blood Alcohol Content. She will appear in a Windsor court on July 8, 2014.

Police would like to remind the public that we rely on the public to report crime and impaired driving is a crime that should be treated no differently. If you suspect that someone is driving or about to drive impaired, call 911 and report it. If you see that someone is impaired and intends on driving, do not let them drive.

(NORTH BAY, ON) The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit located the body of a man missing from a boating mishap on Lake Nosbonsing that occurred in the morning of June 15. The victim has been identified as Christopher STANLEY (age 17) of North Bay.

Body was located shortly after 8:25 pm this evening. A post mortem will take place tomorrow morning in North Bay.

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently on the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision.

At approximately 4:39 this afternoon a collision involving two vehicles occurred on Highway 7 West of Barry’s Road, in the former Mariposa Township. Initial investigation indicates that an east bound vehicle was stopped or stopping to make a left hand turn into a driveway when it was struck from behind by a pickup truck.

The two occupants of the vehicle, a 73 year old male and a 58 year old female are both deceased.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported from the scene via ambulance to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

The OPP’s Technical Collision Investigation unit (TCI) is on scene to assist with the investigation. Highway 7 is closed between Kawartha Lakes Road 46 and White Rock Road and will remain so for a few hours.

The investigation is ongoing.

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – The East Algoma detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Elliot Lake is asking the public for help to identify the person(s) responsible for the theft of aluminum wheel chair ramps.
On May 30, 2014 at 7:30 a.m. officers from the Elliot Lake detachment of the OPP were called to a theft on Brunet Road in Elliot Lake. Officers learned that a 30 foot long aluminum wheel chair ramp that was 3 feet wide with attached railing and a 4’x4’platform valued at $3500.00 had been stolen from a residence.

(NORTH BAY, ON) – On June 15, 2014 at approximately 8:45 a.m., members of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a boating incident on Lake Nosbonsing, Bonfield Twp. The now unmanned fishing boat, with motor running, circled the two young men while they called for help.

Citizens at the scene had managed to rescue one of the boaters, Nicholas WATSON, age 17, Bonfield, prior to officer’s arrival.

An extensive search for the other boater, Christopher STANLEY, age 17, of North Bay, is still being conducted by the North Bay OPP, North Bay Marine Unity, North East Region Snowmobile, All Terrain and Vessel Enforcement (SAVE) Team, OPP Helicopter Unit and Underwater Search and Recovery Unit.

Ambulance transported Nicholas WATSON to the hospital for assessment.

With the holiday weekend just underway we already have our first tragedy. The OPP want to remind everyone that any time you are going out on the water please wear a personal floatation device.

(INGERSOLL, ON.) – Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called in to investigate the report of a missing female from Norwich Township on June 11, 2014.

OPP are advising that 55 year old Karen ELSBRIE has been located deceased in the vicinity where her vehicle had been located following a search by police. ELSBRIE’s vehicle was located on June 11, 2014 at the Highway 401 and Highway 19 car park.

The OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), along with assistance from the OPP helicopter, conducted an intensive search of the area over the past several days. OPP is continuing to investigate the death with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Unit and the Coroner’s office. Foul play is not suspected.

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – After extensive efforts conducted by the Kapuskasing Fire Department, the Town of Kapuskasing Public Works, emergency personnel and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), remaining evacuees residing on Riverside Drive between Henderson Street and Government Road are now scheduled to safely return home later this afternoon.

In the afternoon of June 14, 2014, authorities at the scene of the evacuation site located the gasoline leak within the controlled containment area and are now in the process of remediating the contaminant source.

The downsized state of evacuation is scheduled to be lifted in late afternoon, following the final precautionary safety testing of the affected residential area.

The OPP would like to inform all motorists, cyclists and pedestrians that Riverside Drive at the intersection of Government Rd. and Henderson Street will be closed to traffic while the necessary repairs are being completed.

The OPP would like to thank all the evacuees for their patience and cooperation during the emergency situation and would also like to thank all responding emergency personnel in their contribution to the safety and well-being of all affected Kapuskasing residents and attending units.
