Counterfeiting Operation Hits Snag

(MADOC TWP., ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit and Central Hastings Detachment have made arrests in connection with a counterfeit cash investigation.

A Central Hastings officer responded just before 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on Crookston Road.

It was confirmed that one person in the vehicle had an outstanding arrest warrant and was arrested. A subsequent search of the vehicle located a quantity of counterfeit cash as well as the equipment and materials used to make it.

This resulted in the other person in the vehicle being arrested as well.

CSCU and Central Hastings OPP members executed a search warrant at a residence on Cooper Road on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, and seized more counterfeit cash and additional materials and equipment.

The value of the completed and partially completed counterfeit cash is into the thousands of dollars.

As a result of the investigation, Lisa DUDGEON, age 44, and Ryan BAXTER, age 40, both from Madoc Township, have been charged under the Criminal Code with:Making counterfeit money

  • Making counterfeit money
  • Possessing counterfeit money

BAXTER has also been charged with breach of recognizance.

Both of the accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on Friday, September 13, 2024.

Brent YOUNG – Drunk Driving

(DUFFERIN COUNTY) – Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one male with impaired operation related offences as the result of a shoplift investigation.

On September 10, 2024, shortly after 3:30 p.m., Dufferin OPP officers responded to a shoplift call for service at a local grocery store in the Town of Shelburne. The accused had left the scene prior to police arrival. Officers located the driver who was operating a mobility scooter and were led into an impaired driving investigation.

Brent YOUNG, a 58-year-old male, from Shelburne has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused individuals are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville. Their driver’s licence was suspended 90 days, and their vehicles impounded for 7 days.

Joy HENNESSEY Was Arrested

(TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) – A traffic complaint by an off-duty police officer led to the arrest of a drug-impaired driver.

On September 9, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Temiskaming Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Sunnyside Road in the City of Temiskaming Shores. Through investigation, police determined that the driver had consumed an intoxicating substance. Police arrested the driver and seized drugs suspected to be Fentanyl. The driver was transported to the Temiskaming OPP Detachment for further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

As a result of the investigation, Joy HENNESSEY, 42 years-of-age of Kirkland Lake, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Haileybury Ontario Court of Justice on September 24, 2024. They were issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and their motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Matthew BEATON Was Arrested

(PRESCOTT, ON) – A large amount of stolen property was recovered by police following a search warrant yesterday in the Town of Prescott.

The Grenville County and Leeds County Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) had received numerous reports for stolen recreation vehicles and construction equipment throughout the areas since the spring of 2024. 

Members from the East Region OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) began investigating the incidents since that time, and completed a search warrant for a property on Wood Street East, in the Town of Prescott. 

In the evening of September 10, CSCU executed the search warrant, with the assistance of the East Region OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and Canine Unit. One person was located inside and arrested without incident. 

CSCU recovered two ATVs, construction tools, a trailer, two kayaks, a boat, a motorcycle and a pick-up truck. Police also located and seized a quantity of suspected cocaine and rifle ammunition. 

The accused, Matthew BEATON, 39 years of age, was charged with the following Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act offences: 

·      Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (four counts)

·      Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

·      Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance 

The accused was later released from custody and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on October 11, 2024.

Another OPP Officer Arrested #FilmThePolice

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – One person has been charged with assault following an incident at an amusement park in Bracebridge.

On June 8, 2024, members of the Bracebridge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended an amusement park in Bracebridge for a complaint of an assault involving a youth and an adult female, who departed prior to police arrival.

As a result of the investigation, on September 4, 2024, Heather CLARIDGE, age 45 of Bracebridge, was arrested and charged with assault.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on October 8, 2024.

The investigation revealed that the accused is a provincial constable with 21 years of service with the OPP, who was off duty at the time of the incident and is currently off on unrelated leave.

Cornelius UNGER Arrested Following Collision

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment, has charged an individual following a single-vehicle collision investigation.

On September 10, 2024, at approximately 12:10 p.m., emergency responders including members the Elgin OPP, Malahide Fire Services, Elgin-St. Thomas Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Air ORNGE, responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle colliding with a tree on Chalet Line near Carter Road, Township of Malahide.

The lone driver was transported to a hospital by Elgin-St. Thomas EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigating officer observed signs of impairment from the driver and a Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE) was administered at the hospital, with the assistance of the Brant County OPP.

As a result of the investigation, Cornelius UNGER, a 49-year-old from Aylmer was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on October 8, 2024.

John WILKINSON – Sexual Assault

(NEW TECUMSETH, ON)- The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Major Crime Unit has charged an individual in relation to a historical sexual assault.

In August 2024, an investigation began after a victim reported a sexual assault that occurred in 2010. At the time of the incident the accused and the victim were members of the same residential community in the Town of Beeton.

As a result of the investigation, John WILKINSON, from New Tecumseth was charged with:

–       Sexual Assault

–       Sexual Interference

The accused has been arrested and released and is scheduled to attend Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on September 26th, 2024.

John SIMON Was Arrested

(MALAHIDE, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment, has charged an individual following a collision investigation.

On September 10, 2024, at approximately 11:25 a.m., emergency services including Malahide Fire Services, Elgin-St. Thomas Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Elgin OPP responded to a single-vehicle rollover collision involving a passenger vehicle colliding with a utility pole on Wilson Line near Imperial Road, Township of Malahide.

The lone driver that was transported to a local hospital by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation, John SIMON, a 63-year-old from Norfolk County was charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Careless driving
  • Driving while under suspension

A 45-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on October 22, 2024.

Samuel GUAY – Theft

(MACDONALD-MEREDITH-ABERDEEN ADDITIONAL TOWNSHIP ON)- Police locate stolen brown van from British Columbia.

On September 5, 2024, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Sault Ste Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft of gas from a local gas station on Highway 17B in the Town of Echo Bay.

Investigation determined a brown conversion van had driven away from the gas station without paying $190 in fuel. At approximately 10:45 a.m., police observed the suspect vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 17. The van then pulled into a contracting yard on Highway 17 near Highway 548 within Tarbutt-Additional Township.

Police conducted a query on the vehicle plate and revealed the 1979 conversion van was reported stolen from Revelstoke, British Columbia. Another query determined the driver was on conditions not to operate any motor vehicle whereby the licence plate was not registered to him or a partner.

As a result, Samuel GUAY, 35 years-of-age from Saint Julien, QC was charged with:

  • Theft under $5000
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Failure to comply with release order-other than to attend court

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on October 21, 2024.

Clarrae NADJIWON Was Arrested

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – Driver facing impaired charge as a result of an OPP RIDE Program.

On September 10, 2024, at 11:35 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were engaged in a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Glendon Drive in Middlesex Centre.

A vehicle entered the program at which time a traffic stop was initiated.

It was determined the driver had previously consumed alcohol. The driver was arrested after failing the roadside Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) and was transported to the Middlesex OPP detachment where further tests were administered.

As a result, Clarrae NADJIWON, a 33-year-old of Mount Brydges, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on November 6, 2024.

Mitchell LORD Was Arrested

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – An individual is facing charges following a single vehicle collision.

On September 11, 2024, at approximately 2:05 a.m., while on patrol, members of the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a vehicle in the ditch on Haldimand Road 17, near Cayuga.

No injuries were reported.

Upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent they had consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, 44-year-old Mitchell LORD of Niagara Falls was charged with the following offences:

  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand
  • Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on October 29, 2024.

Mark VASEY Arrested After Someone Defecated Beside Trailer


(THESSALON, ON)- Sibling attends campground and threatens park staff. On September 7, 2024, at approximately 11:30 a.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a threat’s complaint at a local campground on Lakeside Drive in the Town of Thessalon.

Investigation determined campground staff told two people to leave the campsite by 11:00 a.m. as one of the individuals was observed defecating beside a seasonal trailer. 

Later, a sibling of one of the evicted individuals attended the campground, threatened park staff and left on foot. Police identified the accused through video footage provided by the complainant.

At approximately 12:00 p.m., police located the accused walking on Main Street and a subsequent arrest was made. As a result, Mark VASEY, 39 years-of-age from Thessalon was charged with: Uttering threats-cause death or bodily harm.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on October 3, 2024.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(MARATHON, ON) – Four people are facing multiple charges including Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences following a traffic stop in Marathon. A significant amount of suspected Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Oxycodone and a large amount of Cannabis were seized as a result of the traffic stop.

On September 8, 2024, members of the Marathon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment were notified by members of the Anishinabek Police Service (APS) who observed an individual near Highway 17 and Peninsula Road known to have an outstanding warrant. APS members performed a traffic stop and arrested the driver of the motor vehicle after confirming the warrant.

Marathon OPP members attended to take over the investigation. Search incident to arrest revealed the driver was in possession of suspected cocaine. Police observed an open can of liquor and subsequently performed a search of the vehicle under the Liquor Licence Control Act.

A search of the vehicle revealed a significant amount of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, cannabis, oxycodone, multiple items related to drug trafficking and open liquor. Subsequently all vehicle passengers were arrested for CDSA offences, and all contraband was seized.

Total street value of all of the suspected CDSA that was seized is approximately $14,000.

As a result of the investigation, the following people are charged:

Bradley Pawlowski, 35-years-old, of Marathon is charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (Oxycodone)

·      Possession of over 30g dried Cannabis in a public place

Ian Turner, 34-years-old, of Terrace Bay is charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

·      Possession of over 30g dried Cannabis in a public place

·      Fail to Comply with Probation Order

 Geoffery Barry, 35-years-old, of Schreiber, is charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

·      Possession of over 30g dried Cannabis in a public place 

Kristian Bouchard, 28-years-old, of Pays Plat, is charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

·      Possession of over 30g dried Cannabis in a public place

The accused Bradley Pawlowski was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 11, 2024.

All other accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Marathon on October 16, 2024.

Another Violent Home Invasion

(BROCKVILLE, ON) – The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a home invasion that occurred at a residence on Blair Road.

On September 11, 2024, minutes after 1:00 a.m., Leeds County OPP officers received reports from a homeowner stating that they had been assaulted by four unknown individuals. The individuals left the residence with bank cards and cash and are still outstanding.

The OPP believes this incident is isolated and there is no risk to public safety. However, members of the public should always ensure doors and windows are locked and always be aware of surroundings.

The Leeds OPP Crime Unit is currently being assisted by the Forensics Identification Services Unit (FIS).

Sean ANTONE – Drunk Driving

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – On September 10, 2024, at approximately 11:15 p.m., members of the Haldimand detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a driver on Highway 6, near Caledonia.

While on patrol, police observed a vehicle travelling at what appeared to be higher than the posted speed limit and conducted a traffic stop.

Upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent they had consumed alcohol, and an Approved Screening Device was administered.

The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, 26-year-old Sean ANTONE of Southwold was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed
  • Speeding
  • Driver Fail to Surrender Licence
  • Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on October 1, 2024.
