Bernhard THIESSEN – Impaired Driving

(LEAMINGTON, ON) – On November 10, 2024, at approximately 6:55 p.m., Leamington Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Sherk Street near Pulford Road in the Municipality of Leamington.

Officers arrived on scene to find a vehicle had struck another vehicle and a fence.

As a result of the investigation, Bernhard THIESSEN, 53-years-of age from Leamington was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Dangerous operation

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice Windsor, on November 29, 2024.

No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two drivers with impaired operation over this past weekend.

On November 8, 2024, just after 5:00 p.m., Caledon OPP responded to a three-vehicle collision on Queen Street, near King Street, in Bolton. No injuries were sustained. During the investigation, officers formed grounds that one of the drivers’ ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

Iqbal BEDI, 55, of Bolton, was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concertation (80 plus)

On November 9, 2024, just after 1:00 a.m., officers were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot check on the Valleywood Boulevard offramp from northbound Highway 410. At that time, a vehicle entered the area and was met by the officers. During the interaction, grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Virender KUMAR, 32, of Brampton, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concertation (80 plus)

Both accused are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on November 28, 2024, to answer to their charge. The driver’s licences were also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicles were impounded for seven.

Another Pedestrian Collision

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – The Oxford detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a collision that occurred between a passenger vehicle and a pedestrian in Oxford County.

On Sunday November 10, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m., members from the Oxford detachment of the OPP along with Oxford County Fire Services and Oxford County Paramedic Services were called to a collision on King Street East in the Town of Ingersoll.

A passenger vehicle and a pedestrian collided resulting in the pedestrian being transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The lone occupant of the vehicle was uninjured.

Roads surrounding the collision were closed for a short time but have since re-opened.

The investigation is ongoing.

Cole EVES – Forcible Confinement, Assault, Etc.

(GREATER NAPANEE, ON) – An 18-year old male from Greater Napanee faces numerous charges after an incident involving multiple threats.

Lennox and Addington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were approached by two female youths on Saturday, November 9, 2024, shortly after 10:00 p.m., reporting that they had been threatened at knifepoint at a local quarry earlier in the evening.

Officers conducted an investigation and learned that the two youths fled the quarry but were followed to a secondary location where they were again threatened at knifepoint and not allowed to leave. Both youths eventually managed to safely leave the location and report the incident to police.

As a result of the investigation, Cole EVES, 18-years old of Greater Napanee has been charged with:

-Forcible confinement – two counts

-Assault with a weapon – two counts

-Uttering threats to damage property – two counts

-Wearing a disguise with the intent to commit an indictable offence

-Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on January 14, 2025.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) – The Huntsville detachment responded to 112 calls for service this past weekend.  Officers arrested and charged two individuals for impaired driving. 

In addition to the criminal charges, officers issue 17 traffic related charges.

Over the course of the weekend, officer conducted 12 R.I.D.E. (REDUCE IMPAIRED DRIVING EVERYWHERE) checkpoints.

CHARGED

On November 9, 2024 at 11:16 p.m., members of the Huntsville Detachment were conducting R.I.D.E on Main Street when they observed a vehicle driving on a pedestrian walkway in the Town of Huntsville. The driver was stopped and failed a Roadside Screening Device. The driver was taken for breath testing where testing determined they were in excess of 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood..

Aaron CONAGHAN, aged 26 of Huntsville Ontario, has been charge with

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80+.

The accused was suspended from driving for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The accused is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge Ontario on December 10, 2024. 

CHARGED

On November 10, 2024 at 12:06 p.m., members of the Huntsville Detachment were called to a dispute on Main Street West. A female party who was leaving the scene, struck an OPP vehicle. The driver was deemed to be impaired by drug.

Karen Wilkinson, 47 years old of Huntsville has been charged with;

·        Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused was suspended from driving for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The accused is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge Ontario on December 24, 2024.

If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture

Todd WOODS – Drunk Driving

(REANEY TOWNSHIP, ON) – One person was arrested and charged after police responded to a single motor vehicle collision in the ditch.

On October 30, 2024, at approximately 2:39 a.m., the Superior East Chapleau detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 129, Reaney Township, south of Hwy 667.

OPP arrived a short time later and while speaking to the driver police determined alcohol had been consumed and an arrest was made. The driver did not require medical attention and was then transported to Chapleau detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Todd WOODS, 46 years-of-age, from Chapleau, was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Chapleau on November 25, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The driver did not require medical attention.

Ryan ABRAHIM Facing Numerous Charges

(KEMPTVILLE, ON) -A traffic complaint on Highway 401, near the Town of Prescott, has led to multiple criminal charges against an individual from Ottawa.

On Saturday, November 9, 2024, members of the Grenville County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a vehicle on Highway 401 eastbound being driven erratically.

Officers located and followed the vehicle to a store parking lot in the Municipality of North Grenville. They approached the vehicle, and their subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of one individual. The investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen, and that the driver was suspected of being impaired by drugs. During a search of the vehicle, officers also found break-in tools and suspected opioids.

As a result of the investigation, Ryan ABRAHIM, age 44 of Ottawa has been charged with:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime
  • Theft over $5,000 of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of automobile master key
  • Possession break in instruments
  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drug
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance – opioid
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence
  • Driving while under suspension

This accused was held for a bail hearing and has since been remanded in custody.

Priya PERSAUD Arrested Following Collision

(KING, ON) – Motor vehicle collision resulted in one driver being arrested and charged with multiple criminal charges, early Sunday morning.

On November 10, 2024, shortly before 6:00 a.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Aurora detachment were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 400 south bound, north of King Road, in the Township of King, Ontario. It was reported that a vehicle had been involved in a collision with another vehicle and that both had come to rest in the center median impeding a live lane. All parties were without injuries.

While investigating the collision, officers had cause to enter into an impaired driving investigation involving one of the drivers, who was subsequently arrested at the scene.

As a result, Priya PERSAUD, a 21-year-old from Ajax has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation

The accused was released from custody and is set to appear on December 10, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Newmarket.

3 Dead Following Collision

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – A two-vehicle crash on Highway 401 in Quinte West has left three people dead and another with serious injuries.

The collision happened around 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, on the westbound lanes of the highway, west of the County Road 40 interchange. A mini-van had collided with the rear of a tractor trailer.

Traffic in the area was slowed or stopped due prior collision father west.

Officers with the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with members of the Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services and Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Service responded to the scene.

Two people in the minivan, a 25-year-old male, a 22-year-old female, were pronounced deceased at the scene. An eight-month-old child was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. A four-year-old child was transported to a trauma centre in Toronto by Ornge Air Ambulance with serious injuries. All are from Laval, Quebec.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

The westbound 401 was closed for several hours during the investigation of this collision.

The investigation by the Quinte West OPP is continuing, with assistance from OPP Collision Reconstructions and members of the Technical Collision Investigation Team, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner.

Plane Crash


(SOUTHWEST MIDDLESEX, ON)
 – Three individuals were transported to hospital following a plane crash in the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex.

On November 9, 2024, at approximately 4:45 p.m., members of the Middlesex County OPP, including Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and local fire services, responded to a report of a plane crash on Olde Drive, between Springfield Road and Melbourne Road in the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the pilot was attempting to land the small aircraft, when the plane crashed and flipped over upon landing.

Four occupants were on board of the small plane at the time of the crash. Three individuals were transported by EMS to local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the fourth individual was uninjured.

The Transportation Safety Board has been notified and will continue with the investigation.

$200,000 Drug Bust – Daniel SMITH Charged

(BROCKTON, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have seized a large quantity of suspected cocaine as a result of a search warrant.

On November 6, 2024, members of the OPP West Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) executed search warrants at addresses in Dundalk and Clifford; the accused was taken into custody outside of Walkerton without incident. 

As a result of the investigation, police seized approximately 1.9 kilograms of suspected cocaine, $12,000 in Canadian Currency, and a motor vehicle. The combined estimated street value of the seized controlled substances is approximately $200,000.

Daniel SMITH, 32-years-old of Dundalk has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, 5(2) CDSA
  • Failure to comply with undertaking, 145(4)(a) CC (two counts)

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in the Walkerton Ontario Court of Justice on November 12, 2024.

Telesphore NSENGIYUMVA – Impaired Driving

(OTTAWA, ON) – Members of the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an Ottawa resident with Impaired Driving after they observed the vehicle driving all over the road.

Shortly after midnight on November 10, OPP observed the vehicle driving erratically on Highway 417 west, near Lees Avenue. The officer noticed a strong odour of alcohol coming from the driver. An approved roadside screening device was utilized and the individual was transported to the detachment for additional testing. The driver then registered more then twice the legal limit.

As a result, Telesphore NSENGIYUMVA, 60 years of age has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

Nsengiyumva is scheduled to appear in court in December.

Fatal Collision

(KINGSVILLE, ON) – An individual is deceased following a collision involving a motorcycle in the Town Kingsville.

On November 9, 2024, shortly after 1:30 p.m., emergency services including Essex-Windsor Emergency Medical Services, Kingsville Fire Department, and the Kingsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on County Road 34 in the Town of Kingsville.

As a result, the motorcyclist, a 54-year-old of Ruthven, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

County Road 34, was closed between County Road 31 and Dolce Vita Avenue for approximately seven hours but has since been reopened.

Kingsville OPP continue to investigate the collision with the assistance of the Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team.

Pedestrian Airlifted After Hit & Run In Clinton #PedestrianLivesMatter

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A 20-year-old pedestrian was injured last evening after being struck by a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene in the Municipality of Central Huron.

On November 7th, 2024, just before 7:30 p.m., the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Huron County Paramedic Services responded to a report of a car vs pedestrian collision near the intersection of East Street and Ontario Street in Clinton.

Emergency responders located one person who had been struck by a passenger vehicle. They were transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to London where their injuries were deemed non-life threatening.

The involved vehicle was observed leaving the scene southbound on East Street and is described as a smaller blue car with silver colouring.

The OPP is requesting any witnesses that may have observed this incident to call police. If any member of the public has dash-cam footage or home surveillance footage in the area, please contact the OPP.

Drug Bust – Names Released

(DESERONTO, ON) – A traffic stop on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory has resulted in drug trafficking charges against individuals from Napanee and Guelph.

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, Officers with Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit were on patrol in Deseronto when they observed a suspicious vehicle.

The officers followed the vehicle to a gas station on the Tyendinaga Territory, approached the vehicle and subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the two people. A search of the car resulted in the seizure of more than 28-grams of suspected cocaine and over $3000 in cash. Officers, assisted by members of the Tyendinaga Police and the Lennox and Addington OPP, also recovered stolen property and items typically associated with drug trafficking.

As a result of the investigation, Natinael TESFAGABIR, age 22 of Guelph has been charged with:

  • Possession of Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime
  • Failure to comply with a release order

This accused was held for a bail hearing.

Garry GALT, age 62 of Greater Napanee, has been charged with:

  • Possession of Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime
  • Driving while under suspension

This accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on December 12. 2024.
