Fatal Collision

(SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal three vehicle collision in Springwater Township.

On November 18, 2024, at approximately 6:30 a.m., members of the Huronia West OPP with assistance of Springwater Fire and Simcoe County EMS responded to a report of a serious collision involving three vehicles on Penetanguishene Road (Highway 93).

Sadly, as a result of the collision, a 46-year-old driver was confirmed deceased on scene by EMS. A 25-year-old driver in one of the other involved vehicles was transported to a local hospital as a precaution with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was released at the scene after being assessed by EMS with minor injuries.

A section of Penetanguishene Road (Highway 93) was closed for several hours while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene. The road has since been reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.

Owen Sound Homicide Update – Names Released

(OWEN SOUND, ON) – Further information about arrests is being provided in relation to a homicide investigation being conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Owen Sound Police Service (OSPS).

The investigation started when Sharifur RAHMAN, a 44-year-old resident of Owen Sound, was assaulted on 2nd Avenue East in Owen Sound on August 17, 2023, around 9:20 p.m. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on August 24, 2023. Police discovered that the suspects linked to the assault had left the country, prompting OPP and OSPS to collaborate with international partners to coordinate the arrests overseas.

Due to the nature of the investigation and the international element, the information was sealed in an effort to support the apprehension of the accused. On August 15, 2024, the OPP and OSPS released limited information that arrests have been made. As the information was sealed and one suspect was outstanding, further information could not be released.

Two individuals, both citizens of the United Kingdom (UK), have been arrested and charged with Criminal Code offences:

  • Robert EVANS, 24 years old, has been charged with Manslaughter, contrary to section 236(b).
  • Robert Busby EVANS, 47 years old, has been charged with Accessory after the Fact to Commit Indictable Offence, contrary to section 463(a).

On October 29, 2024, Barry EVANS, 54 years old of the UK, was arrested and charged with Accessory after the Fact to Commit Indictable Offence, contrary to section 463(a).

The individuals are currently in the UK and are before the courts in relation to extradition. There are no timelines available for the extradition of the accused individuals.

The investigation is continuing by the OSPS under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with the assistance of the OPP West Region Crime Units, OPP Forensic Identification Services and the OPP Regional Support Team, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Assistance was also provided by police services in West Grey and Hanover, the RCMP, INTERPOL Ottawa Fugitive Apprehension Support Team (FAST) and UK law enforcement members from the National Extradition Unit of the National Crime Agency and Police Scotland.

The OSPS and the OPP would once again like to extend their gratitude to the Owen Sound community and neighbouring jurisdictions for their support and valuable tips. 35 Year Old Arrested After Collision With Tree – Name Released

(BROCKTON, ON) – On December 13, 2024, at approximately 11:53 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a motor vehicle collision along Bruce Road 20, Municipality of Brockton.

On arrival, officers located a single vehicle into a tree. Police approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver.

As a result, Joel AUBREY, 35-years-old, of Saugeen Shores was charged with:

  • Refusal to comply with demand, CC 320.15(1)

The accused is set to appear in the Walkerton Court of Justice on January 8, 2025.

Jordan HALL – Drunk Driving

(CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving related charges.

On December 17, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Huronia West OPP officers were conducting general patrols in Clearview Township, in the area of County Road 10 and Concession Road 12. The officer was alerted to an expired license plate and conducted a traffic stop.

While engaging with the driver, the officer noticed the driver showing signs of impairment which led into an impaired driving investigation. As a result, Jordan HALL, 29-year-old of Collingwood, was arrested and has been charged with the following:

·      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Neaca KELLER Was Arrested Again

(MAPLETON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charge a local resident with six criminal charges stemming from an assault investigation.

On December 17, 2024, at approximately 4:45 p.m., the Wellington County OPP received a report of an assault at an address on Elora Street East within Mapleton Township.

On police arrival, one victim was discovered to have minor injuries, but did not require medical attention.

As a result of the investigation, the accused was located and taken into custody after a brief struggle with police, resulting in one officer being assaulted and suffering minor injuries, which also didn’t require medical attention at the scene.

Neaca KELLER, 37-year-old of Mapleton Township was charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Mischief – destroys or damages property
  • Mischief – renders property dangerous, useless, inoperative or ineffective
  • Assault
  • Assault a Peace Officer
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (Two counts)

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Child Sexually Assault – MAHON Charged

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) – On December 17, 2024, the Muskoka Crime Unit, with the assistance of the OPP’s Forensic Interview Team and Forensic Sketch Artist, made an arrest in this historic sexual assault investigation.

Kelly MAHON (age 59) of Huntsville was arrested and charged with:

·      Sexual Assault with a weapon on a Person under 16 years

·      Sexual Interference

·      Uttering threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm

The Muskoka Crime Unit continued their investigation into a sexual assault that occurred in July 2015 in the Town of Huntsville Ontario, after the victim, who was seven years old at the time of the offense, came forward in October of 2023.

MEAWASIGE – Drunk Driving

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – A routine traffic stop for a suspended driver ended with criminal charges for an impaired driver. 

On December 17, 2024, shortly after 10:30 am, a member of the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after receiving an Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) hit that the registered owner was suspended. 

Investigation determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol, and an approved screening device (ASD) test was administered. The driver failed the test and was arrested and transported to the Thunder Bay Detachment where additional breath testing was completed.    

Leon MEAWASIGE, 41-years-old, from Thunder Bay is charged criminally with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was also charged with:

·      Operate a motor vehicle without insurance – contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

·      Driving while under suspension – contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused had his driver’s licence suspended and the vehicle was impounded. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Thunder Bay Ontario Court of Justice on January 22, 2025, to answer to the criminal charges.

This year’s Festive RIDE Campaign runs from November 21, 2024 to January 1, 2025. Citizens are reminded to do their part during the campaign by never driving after consuming alcohol or taking drugs, and never letting anyone else drive if you know or suspect that they have consumed either.

50 Year Old From Dundalk Arrested

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired operation for having a BAC (blood alcohol concentration) of over three times the legal limit.

On December 16, 2024, shortly after 2:00 a.m., an officer patrolling Highway 10 in Caledon came across a vehicle stopped at a green light at the intersection of Old School Road. A traffic stop was conducted. During the interaction, grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operate was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Damanjit DHUR, 50, of Dundalk, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on January 2, 2025, to answer to the charges. The driver’s licence was also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven.

SZABO – Impaired Driving

(GARDEN RIVER FIRST NATION, ON) – A single vehicle collision on Highway 17 east of the city has resulted in impaired driving charges for one individual. On December 13, 2024, at approximately 7:44 p.m., officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police were conducting general patrol, when they observed a vehicle in the snowbank on Highway 17 in Garden River First Nation.      

Further investigation determined the vehicle driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. As a result, Joshua SZABO, 40 years-of-age, of Echo Bay was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on January 20, 2025 in Sault Ste. Marie. The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Break & Enter – ST DENIS & TICKLE

(BRANT COUNTY, ON) – Two individuals have been arrested and are facing charges after Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members responded to a break and enter in progress at a commercial property on Colborne Street East.

On Tuesday December 17, 2024, at approximately 10:43 p.m., Brant County OPP received a report for a break and enter in progress at a business on Colborne Street East in the County of Brant. The property owner was monitoring the site and was able to direct police to the location of the suspects who were arrested and transported to the Brant detachment.

 Christopher ST DENIS, 61-years-old from Brantford has been charged with the following offence:

 Cynthia TICKLE, 57-years-old from Brantford has been charged with the following offence:

 ·      Possession Break in Instruments

 The accused have been released from police custody and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Brantford, Ontario on February 7, 2025.

FOSTER – Drunk Driving

(TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) – One person was arrested and charged with impaired driving after police stopped a motor vehicle in Temiskaming Shores.

On December 12, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol and observed a vehicle travelling through a public parking lot near Cedar Avenue in Temiskaming Shores. OPP initiated a traffic stop to ensure driver sobriety which resulted in the arrest of the driver for impaired. The driver was then transported to the Temiskaming Detachment for further testing.

Kent FOSTER, 38 years-of-age, from Burlington, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired -blood alcohol concentration (80 Plus)
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Fail to surrender permit for vehicle
  • Fail to surrender insurance card

 In addition, the accused received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Haileybury Ontario Court of Justice on January 7, 2025.

LAMPARD – Impaired Driving

(ESSA, ON) – The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver for driving while impaired in the Township of Essa.

On December 17, 2024, just before 8:30 p.m., Nottawasaga OPP received a call for a traffic complaint North Bound on County Road 10 towards Mill Street in Essa township. A black 4 door passenger vehicle was swerving and unable to maintain the lane almost causing several collisions.

The Officer located the vehicle shortly after on County Road 90 East of Angus swerving in and out of the lines. The officer conducted a traffic stop and as of a result of the investigation the driver,

Tyler LAMPARD, 29 years-old, of Mulmur, was charge with:  

• Adult Operation while Impaired- alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on January 16, 2025, to answer to the charges.

13 Year Old Sexually Assaulted – Police Fear More Victims – Masoud Abdulla Arrested #PervertAlert

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has arrested and charged an Etobicoke man for the Sexual Assault of a 13-year-old female in Halton.

On December 16, 2024, Masoud Abdulla (35) of Etobicoke was arrested by HRPS officers. He has been charged with the following:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Luring by Telecommunications
  • Sexual Interference
  • Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration

Abdulla used social media to connect with the victim and then drove to Halton to pick her up the evening of the assault. Prior to the assault, the victim had never met the accused in person.

Investigators believe there may be other victims and a photo of the accused is attached to this media release. Abdulla also utilized a handle of “tsmith9423” on social media. Anyone with information, or anyone who has been victimized by him is asked to contact the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit at 905-825-4777 ext. 8970.

Sexual assault is any touching of another person without their consent where the touching is of a sexual nature, or where the sexual integrity of the victim is violated.  A sexual assault can range from unwanted touching to sexual assault involving penetration.

There is no statute of limitation when it comes to reporting a sexual assault.  This means that no matter how long ago the sexual assault happened, you can still report it to police for investigation.

Fatal Collision

On Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 5:40pm, 8 District (Grimsby/Lincoln/West Lincoln) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service attended the area of Regional Road 20 and Regional Road 27 in the Town of West Lincoln for a single motor vehicle collision.   

Investigation revealed a 24-year-old male was operating an Audi A4 westbound on Regional Road 20 in the Town of West Lincoln when it lost control and struck a pole. 

Tragically the 24-year-old male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.  

The investigation remains ongoing by detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service and the office of the coroner.
