(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On February 13, 2014, at 6:50 am a collision between a motor vehicle and transport truck on Highway 17, Blind River, resulted in the death of David DENNIE, 36, of Blind River.

As a result of the ongoing investigation and additional information received, the driver, Gary TYSKA, 61, of Thunder Bay has been charged with:

Causing Death by Criminal Negligence as per s. 220(b) of the Criminal Code;

Careless Driving as per s. 130 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);

Fail to enter defect in daily inspection report as per s. 107(8)(a) of the HTA; and

Fail to report defect to operator as per s. 107(8)(b) of the HTA.

Additionally, ABI Trucking of Thunder Bay was charged with ‘Fail to ensure daily inspection is conducted properly’ as per s. 107(4)(b) of the HTA.

The driver is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 3, 2014 in Blind River. The investigation is continuing.

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON)- On Friday May 16, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police responded to a two vehicle collision on the E/B lanes of HWY 402 east of Centre Road. At this time both E/B lanes have been closed as emergency crews work to clear the scene. This section of the HWY is expected to be closed for the next 30 minutes between Centre Road and Hickory Drive.

Motorists are being asked to be patient in the area and to expect delays.

Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, Drug Enforcement Unit, executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act search warrant on May 15, 2014 at a private residence located on Pressey Line in Springfield, ON.

The search warrant resulted in police seizing the following;

Cannabis Marihuana Bud
Cannabis Marihuana Shake
Percocet pills
Oxycodone pills
Morphine pills
Psylocibin
2 Firearms

Approximate value of the drug seizure is $2,300.00.

Police have arrested and charged Jacob Braun FRIESEN, age 29 of Springfield, ON. He has been charged with;

1. Possession of a schedule II drug for the purposes of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

2. 2 X Possession of a schedule I drug for the purposes of trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA.

3. Production of a schedule II substance (other than Marihuana) contrary to section 7(1) CDSA

4. Possession of a Schedule I substance contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

5. Possession of a Schedule II substance contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

FRIESEN has been held in custody pending a Show Cause Bail Hearing to be held this date, May 16, 2014 at the St Thomas Criminal Court.

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON)- On Tuesday May 13, 2014 at 1:24 p.m. members of the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Police Service and Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a residential break and enter in progress on the 100 block of Isaiah Road located on the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation.

Police learned that a lone male suspect was observed gaining entry to the home. Police arrived on scene and located the male suspect fleeing on foot. The male was placed under arrest without incident. .

As a result of an investigation police have charged Spencer DOXTATOR, age 22 of No Fixed Address (NFA) with Break & Enter to a dwelling house – commit indictable offence as per Section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code. The accused party was remanded into police custody and is scheduled to appear in a London court room at a later date to speak to the charges.

Elgin County OPP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying suspect(s) in a residential break and enter which occurred on May 11, 2014 between 9am and 6:30pm. The break in occurred at a private residence on Coyle Road, Municipality of Bayham.

Lenovo Laptop computer and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the residence.

(Algonquin Provincial Park, ON) Members of the Killaloe Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently conducting a search for two missing people at Opeongo Lake, Algonquin Provincial Park. The parties were canoeing on the evening of May 15, 2014 when their canoes capsized. The Killaloe Detachment is being assisted by OPP resources including the Emergency Response Team, Marine Units, Aviation Unit, Underwater Search and Recovery Unit with assistance from the Ministry of Natural Resources.

(Madoc, ON) – On May 5, 2014 at 11:30 p.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P conducted a R.I.D.E Program on Russell Street in the Village of Madoc. As a result twenty vehicles were checked including a pickup truck with an occupant in possession of marihuana.

As a result of the investigation 21 year old Justin LAVECQUE of Marmora, ON was arrested and charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Marihuana under 30 grams. He was issued an Appearance Notice and he will appear in Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville in mid-June 2014.

(TWEED, ON) – On May 16, 2014 at 5 a.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), East Region Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Central Hastings Detachment executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act warrant at a residence on Varty Road in the Municipality of Tweed.

Investigators seized 70 mature marihuana plants, 19 clones and 12 grams of marihuana bud with a street value of over $79 000. In addition two firearms were seized as well as equipment and packaging relating to the production of cannabis resin.

As a result 51 year old Logan RAY of Tweed, ON was arrested and charged with Production of Marihuana, Possession of Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking, Production of Cannabis Resin, Unauhorized Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Property Obtained By Crime and Theft of Electricity or Gas – Under. He will appear in Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville on June 26, 2014.

(TOWNSHIP OF CHATSWORTH, ON) – Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) remind the public to be aware of a common fraud known as the “Microsoft Scam”.

The Microsoft scam works on the basis of a phone call from a person claiming to be a representative of Microsoft. The person tells you there is a problem with your computer (usually a virus) and offers to repair the computer; but in order for them to do this; they will require access to your computer (passwords) and request your credit card information.

On Thursday, May 15, 2014, at approximately 9:33 p.m., police received a call from a Township of Chatsworth man reporting that last month he had granted a “Microsoft” person remote access to his computer and paid for the service using PAYPAL. After realizing he had been scammed, he purchased a new computer for fear of what may have been done to his old computer. On Thursday, May 15th, the victim received another call from the fraudster and when he refused his services, the fraudster yelled and swore at him.

Many scammers try to trick you into providing your banking and personal details. Never provide personal information or banking information to anybody you don’t know and trust.

Anyone receiving a phone call of this nature should simply hang up.

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On May 14, 2014, just before 5:30 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a complaint of a Mercedes vehicle driving at a high rate of speed on Highway 401 westbound, near Scane Side Road.

A Chatham-Kent OPP officer who was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 observed the westbound vehicle which appeared to be exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The RADAR registered a speed of 162 km/hr.

Altaf SOORTY, age 55, from Willowdale, ON, has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Speeding by 50 or More Kilometres Per Hour, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days, as per statute.

(ESSEX, ON) The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to seek public assistance to solve the murder of Larry STRANGWAY. The investigation, which has been active for the past eight years, continues to be investigated by members of the Essex County OPP Criminal Investigation Unit under the direction of OPP Detective Inspector Chris Avery of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

The victim was 41 years old at the time of his murder and lived on Erie Street in Harrow. He was found dead in his residence on May 17, 2006 and a post mortem examination determined that he died as a result of a gunshot wound.

“I believe that someone in this community has the information that could help bring those responsible for this murder to justice,” said Detective Inspector Avery. “Anyone with information concerning the activities of Mr. STRANGWAY or his known associates is asked to please contact police. Even the smallest detail could be the crucial piece that helps our investigators solve this murder.”

The OPP and the Government of Ontario are offering a reward in the amount of $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Larry STRANGWAY.
