THEFT OF YARDWORK EQUIPMENT

(Selwyn Township, ON) – On Monday June 16, members of the Peterborough County OPP were called to investigate a report of theft from a residence located on Hilliard Street.

Unknown suspects attended the residence and gained access to the garden shed in the rear yard. Once in the shed the suspects stole a number of garden tools. The suspects then let in an unknown direction.

Items stolen:

Gas powered Lawn Mower

Gas powered Edger

Gas Chainsaw

Gas Hedge Trimmer

OPP INVESTIGATING TRAFFIC COMPLAINT

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – On Monday, June 2, 2014 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was contacted in regards to a traffic complaint that occurred on Highway 35 at approximately 2:15p.m.

Initial investigation indicated that a south bound vehicle pulled out to pass a series of vehicles and nearly caused a head on collision. Witnesses were able to provide the investigating officer with the licence plate of the vehicle and the investigation is ongoing.

The OPP is requesting that anyone who observed this incident contact Provincial Constable Chris Henshall at 705-324-6741.

FISHING GEAR RECOVERED

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently attempting to locate the owner of some fishing gear that was recently recovered.

The OPP investigated an incident in which various fishing equipment was stolen from several boat houses in the Coboconk area over the weekend of May 31, 2014- June1, 2014. The investigation resulted in 3 local males being identified as responsible for the thefts. An 18 year old Fenelon Falls man and a 17 year old Lindsay male have been charged with the offence.

Fishing equipment was recovered and has been returned to the owners. However, there is still some equipment that has not been claimed. Anyone from the area of Sheddon Street and Albert Street in Coboconk that is missing fishing equipment is asked to contact Provincial Constable Cappus at 705-324-6741.

Daniel PELLETIER – Drunk Driving

(NIPIGON, ON) -On Monday June 16, 2014 at approximately 5:42 a.m. members of the Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 11-17 in the township of Dorion. Investigation revealed the male driver had been consuming alcohol and the vehicle had been stolen from Thunder Bay.

As a result, 19-year-old Daniel PELLETIER of Thunder Bay has been charged with numerous offences contrary to the Criminal Code:

Operation of a Motor Vehicle With Over 80 mg of Blood Alcohol Content
Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000
Breach of Probation

The accused was remanded into custody with a court date of June 18, 2014.

Two Arrested For Break and Enter

(PORT CARLING, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) of the Bracebridge detachment has arrested two males in relation to a break and enter investigation.

On June 17, 2014 at approximately 7:30 am Bracebridge OPP responded to a call from a member of the public for a break and enter in progress, in the Port Carling area. The two suspects fled the scene in their pickup truck.

The members of the Bracebridge OPP, the Emergency Response Team, and the K-9 Unit located the males in their vehicle on Manitoba Street in Bracebridge. The two males were arrested for break and enter.

The OPP will be in the Port Carling area conducting their investigation. There is no danger to the public. The two suspects have been arrested and will be held in custody.

A portion of Bailey Street in Port Carling will be temporarily closed for the investigation. Please avoid the area to not interfere with the police investigation.

Denis LEFEBVRE – Drunk Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – An Uxbridge resident faces an alcohol related charge after the vehicle he was driving was stopped by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

On June 13, 2014 an OPP officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 7 near Kawartha Lakes Road 36 and determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. As a result of the investigation Denis LEFEBVRE, 58 years of age, was arrested and then charged with driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused will appear in court, in Lindsay, on July 17, 2014.

Scott MC COSHEN – Drunk Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – A vehicle stop recently conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has resulted in a local male being arrested and then charged with a drinking and driving related offence.

On June 13, 2014 an OPP officer stopped a vehicle on Eldon Road near Whiteside Road in the former Mariposa Township. The officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Scott MC COSHEN, 31 years of age, of Manilla, was charged with driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood, contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused will appear in court, in Lindsay, on July 17, 2014.

STOLEN ATV

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – Quinte West OPP is currently investigating the theft of an ATV.

The ATV was taken sometime between 12:30am and 10:30am on June 16th from a Sutcliffe address in Trenton. The ATV is a 500cc 2003 Polaris Predator, black in color with a red seat.

OPP DIVERS SEARCHING FOR MISSING BOATER ON KAMINISTIQUIA RIVER

(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On Saturday, June 14, 2014 at approximately 1:50 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a missing boater.

A 56 year old male from Thunder Bay went boating on the Kaministiquia River in the area of Forbes River Road and Silver Falls Road, during the evening hours and did not return to his camp.

OPP responded with Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and Marine Unit officers to begin searching the area on the Kaministiquia River.

The family of the missing male located the boat in the Kakabeka Falls area on Sunday evening.

Divers from the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) are currently searching the area of the Kaministiquia River.

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is going to be reducing the flow rate on the Kaministiquia River for a period of up to seven hours tomorrow to assist the OPP with their efforts in locating the missing boater

The investigation is continuing.

MVC INVESTIGATION LEADS TO FIREARMS CHARGES

(Sioux Narrows, ON) Members of the Sioux Narrows/Nestor Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a Winnipeg man for firearms offences following a Motor Vehicle Collision on Highway 71. Shortly after 5:00 am on Thursday June 12, 2014, the vehicle driver attended the Fort Frances OPP Detachment reporting that he had been involved in a Motor Vehicle Collision several hours earlier near Sioux Narrows. A short time later police located the vehicle in the ditch and subsequently found an insecure firearm.

As a result of this investigation, 44 year old, Dean McCammon has been charged with Careless Storage of a Firearm and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, both contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He will appear in Kenora Court in July to answer to the charges.

(Pikwakanagan, ON) On June 13, 2014 Provincial Constable Jordan Bullis was on routine patrol on Kokomis Inamo when he conducted a motor vehicle stop. As a result Daniel Sarazin, 52 years of age of Pikwakanagan was charged with

CC 259(4) Drive while disqualified

SARAZIN is scheduled to appear in Killaloe Court on July 16, 2014.

MISCHIEF

(North Algona Wilberforce Township, ON) Provincial Constable Julie McPeak is investigating a mischief to a gate located on a property on Highway 60, Deacon. Sometime between June 6th and June 9th, 2014 unknown person(s) damaged the gate. Anyone with information contact the Killaloe OPP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

(Killaloe, Hagarty, Richards Township, ON) Provincial Constable Kyle Fabian is investigating the mischief done to a residence located on Round Lake Road. Sometime between June 4th and June 14th, 2014 unknown person(s) caused damage to a window and removed solar lights from the property. MISSING BOATER – UPDATE – UNIDENTIFIED MALE LOCATED

(Township of South Frontenac, ON) – On Sunday, June 15, 2014, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service on Hambly Lake. Callers advised that they had seen a male party fishing in a boat at approximately 4:45 pm. Shortly thereafter, the boat was located unoccupied.

Police conducted an investigation on June 15, 2014. At that time there were no reports of a missing person. Part of the investigation included a ground search of the area with the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) with negative results.

Police continued their search on June 16, 2014. At approximately 12:50 p.m. members of the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) located a deceased elderly male in Hambly Lake and recovered his body.

The investigation is on-going and pending notification to next of kin. No foul play is suspected. Anyone with any further information is asked to contact Frontenac OPP at 613-372-1932 or toll free at 1-888-310-1122.

PUBLIC INTOXICATION AND THREATS TO HARM LOCAL POLICE OFFICER

(Hawkesbury, ON) In the early morning of June 10th, at approximately 00:30, the Hawkesbury OPP Detachment received a call about an intoxicated male that was causing problems at the Poplar Motel.

The male who was intoxicated was acting up and ran in the bushes trying to hide from the officers behind the motel.

Guy LANGLOIS (47 yrs) of Champlain Twp was arrested charged under section 31(4) of the Liquor License Act for Being intoxicated in public place. He was served a Provincial Offence Notice (ticket) with a fine of $65.

Langlois was lodged in the Hawkesbury OPP holding cells until he sobered up and was released the next morning.

Later that same day, the accused called the OPP Communications Center and made threats against one of the responding police officers that had arrested him earlier.

The investigation into that other incident resulted in the arrest of of Guy LANGLOIS (47 yrs) of Champlain Twp. He was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with section 264.1(1)(a) Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm.

Langlois is scheduled to appear at the L’Orignal court on June 25th.

Benoit GIRARD – Drunk Driving

(Hawkesbury, ON) – In the evening of June 8th, at approximately 10 pm, Hawkesbury OPP Constables Bouchard, Courtel and Cholette were conducting a RIDE initiative at the Main and John Streets intersection when they stopped a 2003 Ford F-150.

The traffic stop gave the officer reason to believe that the driver had consumed alcohol and that his blood alcohol concentration was above the permitted limit. The driver was consequently arrested for driving while having blood alcohol content above 80 mgs per 100ml of blood.

The driver Benoit GIRARD (35 yrs) of Chenneville, QC was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with section 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.

He is to appear in court on June 25th in L’Orignal.
