SINGLE MOTOR VEHICLE FATAL CRASH ON NAPPERTON DRIVE

(ADELAIDE METCALFE, ON) – On Thursday, June 19, 2014, at approximately 9:40 p.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Adelaide Metcalfe Fire Department, the Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department, Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Hydro One, responded to a single motor vehicle crash on Napperton Drive in the Municipality of Adelaide Metcalfe, ON.

As a result of the police investigation, it was determined that a 2000 Lincoln car was travelling eastbound on Napperton Drive. For unknown reasons, the car left the roadway, rolled over, and struck a hydro pole in the south ditch.

The 29 year old male driver from Strathroy Caradoc, ON, Jeffrey DAY, was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. He remains in hospital in critical condition.

The 27 year old female passenger from Strathroy Caradoc, ON, Michelle DAY, died in the crash, and was pronounced at the scene.

Hydro was out in the area but it has been restored.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) were deployed to the scene to assist with the investigation.

A section of Napperton Drive between Kerwood Road and Brown Road was closed for the police investigation, but it has since been reopened.

The investigation is continuing.

IMPAIRED DRIVER STRIKES TWO NEW TECUMSETH ROADS EMPLOYEES

(NEW TECUMSETH, ON) – On June 20,2014 at 2:50 am New Tecumseh Public Works were painting traffic lines on shoulder of Victoria Street between King and Church Streets in Town of New Tecumseth. A westbound Ford F150 pickup veered onto parking spots and struck two Town of New Tecumseth Public Works employees. The driver fled the scene Nottawasaga OPP officers after through investigation subsequently arrested the driver and transported to Detachment for further testing.

Once the investigation was concluded, of the 32 year old male driver of New Tecumseth was charged with Fail to remain and Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm contrary to Criminal Code of Canada.

The male Public Works worker was taken to Toronto area hospital with life threatening injuries where he is in critical condition. The female roads worker was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators are on scene. This section of Alliston remains closed for several hours.

The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie at a later date.

If anyone witnessed this incident they are asked to at 705-434-1939.

If you suspect that someone is driving or is about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it. If you see that someone is impaired and intends on driving, do not let them drive.

Assault in Group Home

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) of the Bracebridge detachment and the Muskoka Crime Unit has investigated physical assault in a local group home.

On May 14, 2013 the OPP was called to investigate a case of repeated assault in a group home in the Bracebridge area. A residential counsellor at the group home was observed physically assaulting her clients in the group home, while employed to take care of them.

Denise MALLIA 54-year-old from Huntsville has been charged with 4 counts of Assault.

She will appear June 20, 2014 in Bracebridge Court to answer to her charges.

RESTAURANT FIRE

(Havelock Belmont Methuen Township, ON) – On Friday June 20, at approximately 5:00 a.m., members of the Peterborough County OPP responded to a request of the Havelock Belmont Methuen Fire Department to assist in traffic control on Highway 7. This was to assist Fire Fighters in extinguishing a structure fire at a restaurant, known as The Ranch located at 7810 Highway 7.

OPP assisted in traffic control of a section of Highway 7 between Blairton Road and Sama Park Road as the Fire Crews extinguished the fire. The Fire affected Traffic in the area between 5:00 to 9:30 am.

At the time of the fire the business was closed and no one was injured as a result of the fire. The fire has been determined by the Havelock Belmont Methuen Fire Department to be accidental and caused by an electrical appliance in the restaurant. Damage to the structure is quite ostensive, no dollar value has been determined at this time.

OBSTRUCT POLICE

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – On June 20, 2014 at approximately 1:50am Quinte West OPP responded to a King St establishment for the report of an unwanted person.

When police arrived on scene they spoke to an intoxicated female. After an investigation it was learned that intoxicated female was lying to police about her identity. A subsequent police records check of the female also showed that she was on several court orders and at the time of the incident she was breaching her court orders.

As a result a 28 year old Trenton female has been charged with Obstruct Police as well as 3 counts of breaching her court order. The female is being held for a bail hearing at The Ontario Court of Justice 15 Bridge St East, Belleville.

EMPLOYEE CAUGHT RED HANDED

(Hawkesbury, ON) The Hawkesbury OPP Crime Unit has been investigating a series of thefts that occurred at the Canadian Tire Store during the last months.

The investigation led to the arrest of an employee that was caught stealing various items such as electronics from the store.

An accumulation of proof was gathered by Detective Constable Steve Hamel of the Hawkesbury OPP during his investigation. The detective then attended the Canadian Tire Store on Tuesday June 17th where the employee was arrested while he was exiting the store at the end of his shift.

As the employee was being arrested and searched, the detective found in his back pack, dog food and electronics that were being stolen from the Canadian Tire Store. Further search also revealed cannabis resin and methamphetamines to be in the employee’s possession.

Maxime TREMBLAY (21 yrs) of Hawkesbury was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with 8 counts of Theft Under $5000 of section 334(b).

He was also charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with the following:

– Section 4(1) Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine

– Section 4(1) Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis resin – under 1gram

The investigator was able to recover a part of the stolen items. The total value of the stolen property over a period of time was evaluated at more than $2500.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the L’Orignal court house on the 2nd of July 2014.

MALE DECEASED AFTER INDUSTRIAL INCIDENT UPDATE – MALE IDENTIFIED

(WINDSOR, ON) -The male that was killed in an industrial incident on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 on the Honourable Herb Gray Parkway has been identified.

Forty year old Giuseppe SERRA, of Windsor died in the construction zone between Todd Lane and Cousineau Road in Windsor.

The Ministry of Labour continues to investigate the cause of the incident.

Pervert Alert – Steven K. HARTWICK – Child Pornography

(NAPANEE, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, Technological Crime Unit and the Napanee OPP Detachment have arrested and charged a Napanee man following a child pornography investigation.

On June 19, 2014 police executed search warrants at a Napanee residence after receiving information that an individual uploaded Child Pornography to the Internet. As a result of this investigation, two computers and related computer equipment were seized containing images of child sexual abuse.

On June 19, 2014, police arrested Steven K. HARTWICK, 36 years-old of Napanee and charged him with two counts of Possession of Child Pornography and one count of Accessing Child Pornography. The accused was held in custody awaiting a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on June 23, 2014.

The investigation is continuing.

UNIDENTIFIED PROJECTILE STRIKES RESIDENCE

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFF, ON) – Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to investigate after an unidentified projectile, believed to be from a small caliber, high velocity firearm, struck a residence on Carney St., in the Township of Georgian Bluffs on Monday, June 16, 2014.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. on Monday, June 16th, the home owners heard a loud “popping” sound. A short time later they discovered debris of wood splinters in the master bedroom. After further examination of the residence they located what appeared to be a bullet hole through the 2nd story exterior frame siding of their home.

Investigation revealed that the projectile penetrated the exterior wall and passed through a total of three rooms on the upper floor.

The OPP Forensic Identification Unit – Mount Forest was called to assist.

Two adults and one child were inside the residence at the time. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Police believe this was an isolated incident.

401 CRASH – 40,000 LBS OF FERTILIZER DUMPED

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTH FRONTENAC) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a motor vehicle collision between a small car and tractor trailer containing 40,000 pounds of potash fertilizer.

On Thursday the 19th of June, 2014 at 12:45 pm, a motorist was driving their small volkswagon golf, westbound on highway 401 near Highway 15 in the City of Kingston through a well marked construction zone.

A tractor trailer containing 40,000 pounds of potash struck the volkwagon from behind, forcing it off the roadway, causing the tractor trailer to overturn. The occupants of the volkswagon were uninjured, and the driver of the tractor trailer sustained minor injuries.

Ministry of the Environment officials also attended the scene, in order to supervise clean up of the roadway.

As a result of the investagation, the driver of the tractor trailer has been charged with careless driving.

All motorists are reminded to drive cautiously through construction zones. Maintaining large following distances will also allow for an increase in reaction times to changing road conditions.

Though eastbound traffic has not been affected by this collision, the westbound lanes are expected to be closed until approximately 8:00 pm this evening, with traffic being diverted at Joyceville Road.

OPP ARREST MAN INVOLVED IN BOAT THEFT

(Prince Edward County, ON)—On June 19, 2014 at 1:49am officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Prince Edward County detachment were called to the Picton Marina regarding two suspicious males attempting to steal a boat. OPP located one male hiding in the water under a pier. The second male suspect fled on foot. The OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and OPP K-9 were activated, however, were unable to locate the second suspect.

36-year old male, James ARMSTRONG of Picton is charged with Theft, contrary to Section 334 of the Criminal Code of Canada and Trespass by Night, contrary to Section 177 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was later released from police custody on a promise to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, Picton on July 23, 2014.

CANOE STOLEN FROM ERIN HIGH SCHOOL

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) -On June 18, 2014, Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a theft report of a canoe that was stored behind Erin District High School that belongs to the school. The theft occurred sometime between June 17, 4:00 p.m. and June 18, 2014 8:00 a.m. It was secured by a chain to a canoe rack.

TRACTOR STOLEN FROM FARM IN MINTO

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) -On June 18, 2014, Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a John Deere tractor stolen from a rural property located on 5th Line, Town of Minto. The theft occurred sometime between June 17, 6:30 p.m. and June 18, 2014 7:20 a.m. The keys were with the tractor.

OPP INVESTIGATE DAY TIME BREAK-INS IN SOUTHGATE

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at approximately 9:26 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated two separate break-ins in the Township of Southgate. The residential break-ins occurred during the day.

Sometime between 8:00 a.m. and 9:25 p.m. on June 17th, unknown person(s) forcibly entered a residence through the front door on Grey Rd. 14. A number of items were stolen, including an Android Tablet; Sony cell phone charger; Master Craft socket set; Dewalt cordless drill set; Nintendo WII, 4 controllers, charging station and several games; a woman’s purse containing personal identification, credit cards, photographs and keys; collector coins; and a Panasonic HD 70x zoom camera/camcorder.

Damage to the property was estimated at $3,700.

The second incident occurred between 6:50 a.m. and 9:15 p.m. on Southgate Rd. 12. Again, the residence was forcibly entered through the front door. A laptop, costume jewelry and a small fire safe containing personal documents were taken.
