14 Year Old Assaulted & Threatened

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – On Monday, November 30, 2020, at approximately 7:05 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Norfolk County Detachment investigated an assault at a Bonnie Drive, Simcoe, Norfolk County, address.

It was determined that a 14-year-old youth was assaulted and threatened by other youths while at Wellington Park located in Simcoe, resulting in the victim suffering minor injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate and charges are pending. Updates will be provided when new information becomes available.

Joseph LOEPPKY – Drunk Driving

(NORTH GRENVILLE,ON) On November 27, 2020 shortly before 1:00 p.m. officers from Grenville County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a person consuming alcohol in a vehicle outside a store in North Grenville. The vehicle was located on County Road 44 and River Road. After the driver was spoken to an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized at the scene. The driver was arrested and brought to detachment for further testing. Joseph LOEPPKY, aged 68 years old, from Ottawa was charged with Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) under the Criminal Code section 320.14(1)(b).

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on January 8, 2020.

OPP are reminding the public that a 90 day automatic drivers licence suspension and a seven day impoundment of your vehicle accompanies any impaired driving charge. The Grenville County OPP remains committed to reducing impaired driving. Your help is requested in assisting with keeping our roads safe. School Bus Involved In Collision

(PEMBROKE, ON) – On Wednesday December 2, 2020, at approximately 9:00 a.m., members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two-vehicle collision in the City of Pembroke. The collision, which occurred on Maple Avenue, involved a passenger car and a school bus with 21 elementary students on board. At the time of the collision the bus was proceeding northbound on Maple Avenue and the passenger car was attempting to enter Maple Avenue from a private drive. The minor collision took place at low speed, there were no injuries and neither vehicle required a tow.  

No charges will be laid in connection with the collision. The OPP reminds ALL drivers to take weather and driving conditions into account whenever you get behind the wheel. Even a light snowfall can make a difference. Please adjust your driving and slow down.

Two Arrested During Break And Enter – VANDETTE & DOIRE

(TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) – On November 29, 2020 shortly before 9:00 p.m. members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a Break and Enter in progress on Whitewood Avenue West in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Upon police arrival, officers located two individuals inside the residence. 

Joey VANDETTE, a 26-year-old resident of Cobalt, has been arrested and charged with:

  •  Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. 

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

 Sylvie DOIRE, a 50-year-old resident of Temiskaming Shores, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Break, Enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was released by way of an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on December 22, 2020 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Murder Plans Lead To Charges For Kevin HUMPHREY

(EAST HAWKESBURY TWP, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Hawkesbury area resident after an investigation into serious threats and harassment. 

On June 21, 2020, the OPP received a complaint about threatening messages. Officers attended a campground on County Road 19 in East Hawkesbury Township to begin an investigation.

The Hawkesbury OPP Crime unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch determined that an individual had been developing a plan to kill individuals. Officers arrested the accused on December 1, 2020.

Kevin HUMPHREY, age 56 of East Hawkesbury Township has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Counselling an Indictable offence which is not committed – sec. 464(a)
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – sec. 264(1)(a) – two counts
  • Criminal harassment-threatening conduct – sec. 264(2)(d)

The accused was remanded in custody and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on December 1, 2020.

Adult Charged For Having Over 30 Grams Of Weed In Public

(NIPIGON, ON) – On December 1st 2020 at approximately 1 pm officers from the Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on First Street in the Town of Nipigon.

Officers conducting the RIDE check had an opportunity to stop a driver. The officers conducted an investigation that lead to the seizure of a quantity of marihuana.

Joseph Marshall age 57 of Red Rock, Ontario is charged with:

  • Possession of over 30g dried cannabis in a public place, contrary to the Cannabis Act 8(1)(a).

Owners Charged Following Dog Attacks

(PETERBOROUGH COUNTY, ON)-Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an animal complaint on Kinsale Road in Selwyn Township on October 31, 2020 at approximately 5:00pm. The complainant reported that their dog had been attacked by another dog and had suffered serious injuries that required medical attention.

On November 27, 2020 at approximately 12:00pm, officers attended a residence on Moodie Drive in Douro-Dummer Township. The complainant reported that their two dogs were attacked by their neighbour’s two dogs. Both of the complainant’s dogs suffered serious injuries that require ongoing medical attention.

Both owners of the attacking dogs have been charged under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough in March 2021.

As stated in the Act, the owner of a dog shall exercise reasonable precautions to prevent it from,

(a) Biting or attacking a person or domestic animal; or

(b) Behaving in a manner that poses a menace to the safety of persons or domestic animals

It is important to be in control of your dog at all times.

John Salvagna Facing Impaired Driving Charge

(HUNTSVILLE, ON) Tuesday December 1st, 2020 at approximately 10:12 a.m., Officers from the Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a car swerving from shoulder to shoulder while being driven on highway #35 in the township of Lake of Bays. Police conducted a traffic stop of the car and determined that the driver was under the influence of an intoxicating substance. 

The investigation resulted in John Salvagna a 52 year old male from Algonquin Highlands Township, Ontario being charged with the following:

–  Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired, contrary to section 320.14 (1)(a) 

  of the Criminal Code.

Salvagna was released and will be appearing in the Ontario Court of Justice, Huntsville Ontario, on January 20th, 2020 to answer to his charge.

Huntsville OPP remains committed to ensuring Ontario roads are safe from alcohol-impaired and drug-impaired drivers. The OPP is reminding drivers that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when operating a motor vehicle.

12,750 Cartons Of Cigarettes Seized

(NIPIGON, ON) – On November 29, 2020 at approximately 3:34 PM officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Nipigon Detachment conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11-17, Shuniah Township.

 As a result of the traffic stop, officers located and seized 12,750 cartons of unmarked cigarettes. Officers also seized a quantity of Canadian currency.

 Daniel Deschamps, age 46 of Winnipeg, MB has been charged with the following offences:

  •  Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco Criminal Code 121.1
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000.

 The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in the Nipigon Ontario Court of Justice on March 2, 2021.

Assault Update – FRASER Charged

(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating two related incidents, a robbery and an assault with a weapon, which occurred overnight in the City of Orillia.

On November 26, 2020 shortly after 2:00 a.m., officers received information that a convenience store on Westmount Road had been robbed and that a lone male had fled the store after receiving a small amount of Canadian currency and lottery tickets. A search for the suspect was conducted by OPP Canine (K9) but the suspect was not located.

Approximately two hours later, officers received a call for assistance to a parking lot on Colborne Street where a male was located suffering from serious injuries as a result of an assault with a weapon. As the male was being assisted by County of Simcoe Paramedic Services (CSPS), police identified the victim as being the suspect from the earlier robbery.

The 25 year old male from Barrie was subsequently charged with:

  • Robbery with a weapon, contrary to Section 344(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code

The accused was released at hospital on a Form 10 Undertaking and is set to appear on January 19, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Orillia.

Meanwhile, officers continued to investigate the assault and again utilized OPP K9 to assist in the search. The suspect was subsequently identified but was not located overnight. The investigation was continued by the Orillia Crime Unit and at approximately 1:25 p.m., members of the Orillia Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) located and arrested the suspect near downtown Orillia. The investigation into this incident is ongoing and further information will be released when available.

As a result of this investigation, James FRASER, age 21, of Orillia, has been charged with:

  • Aggravated assault, contrary to Section 268 of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, contrary to Section 88 of the Criminal Code
  • Carrying concealed weapon, contrary to Section 90 of the Criminal Code
  • Common nuisance – endanger life, contrary to Section 180(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Five counts of fail to comply with probation, contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code

The accused was held in custody and is set to appear next on December 09, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Barrie.

19 Year Old Facing Weapons Charges – MCOLL

(BANCROFT, ON) – On November 29, 2020 shortly after 10:00 p.m. officers from the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received the report of a disturbance at a residence on Highway 62 in the Town of Bancroft. Officers attended the location and one adult was arrested. 

Tristan MCCOLL, 19 years of age of Bancroft has been charged with the criminal offences of:

  • Assault
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Transport of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on January 12, 2021.

Drunk Driving Charge At RIDE – MORRISON

(PEMBROKE, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) 2020 Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign commenced on November 21, 2020 and will continue until January 2, 2021. During the first week of the campaign from November 21 to November 27, officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP conducted 17 RIDE checks throughout the detachment area.  No impaired driving or over 80mg charges were reported as a result of the RIDE campaign.

On November 26, 2020, shortly after 11:00 p.m., police responded to a single vehicle collision on Portage Road in the Town of Petawawa. The involved vehicle left the roadway, struck a mailbox and came to rest in the ditch. The driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle and was not injured.  As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing. 

As a result of this investigation 30 year-old Kelcie Allyse MORRISON of Laurentian Valley Township has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg

 The accused had their license suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The driver was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear on December 22, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.

Methamphetamine Bust – TUNN, DENNISTON, HAUGEN & HAUGEN

(PEMBROKE, ON) – On November 26, 2020 members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Pembroke Street West in the City of Pembroke. As a result of the search warrant police located and seized a quantity of drugs, cell phones, and drug paraphernalia. Four individuals were arrested at the scene.

Richard Clarence TUNN age 60, James DENNISTON age 65, Gregory Paul HAUGEN age 52, and Paul Gregson HAUGEN age 19, each face the following charges under the CDSA:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – hydromorphone

 Gregory Paul HAUGEN faces an additional charged under the CDSA of possession of a schedule III substance – psilocybin. 

All four accused persons were released with conditions and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on December 22, 2020.

Head-on Collison Caused By Drunk Driver Going Wrong Way – CHACALOS

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police is disappointed to report that the Festive RIDE campaign that began on November 26, 2020 has netted two impaired drivers over the course of the weekend.

On Saturday November 28, 2020 at 11:15 p.m. police responded to a head on collision on Highway 11 North near Beaver Ridge Road after a driver entered the highway and began travelling south in the northbound lanes. Fortunately the victim was able to take some evasive action and escaped with non-life-threatening injuries. Police arrested and charged 49 year-old Tom CHACALOS of Bracebridge, ON with Impaired Operation CC 320.14(1)(b) and Operation Causing Bodily Harm CC 320.14(2). Both drivers were taken to hospital and later released. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on January 5, 2020 to answer to his charges.

On Sunday November 29, 2020 just before 7:00 p.m. officers were called to a commercial area on Taylor Road in Bracebridge, ON where a man was being seen by paramedics due to concerns over his condition. Police commenced an investigation and have charged 34 year-old Shane HALL of Algonquin Highlands with Impaired Operation CC 320.14(1)(a) and Resist Peace Officer CC 129(a). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on December 29, 2020 to answer to his charges.

Trent JACKSON – Methamphetamine, Drunk Driving,

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – On Friday, November 27, 2020, at approximately 10:04 p.m., an officer with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment stopped and investigated a vehicle at a Charlotteville Road 5, Charlotteville, Norfolk County address.

As a result, police charged 19-year-old Trent Jason JACKSON of Norfolk County, Ontario with the following offences:

·        Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus,

·        Possession of Methamphetamine,  

·        Novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero,

·        Driver fail to surrender licence, and

·        Fail to surrender insurance card.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe at a later date.
