(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a number of incidents and effected arrests over the past week.

On January 28, 2025, members of Northumberland OPP received information that a minor had been communicating with an adult and that explicit communications had been exchanged.

The Northumberland Crime Unit were engaged to assist with the investigation and on February 21, 2025, officers attended an address in Wasaga Beach and arrested one male party.

As a result of this investigation, Joshua NOBLE-MURRAY, 26-years-old, from Wasaga Beach, has been charged with:

–      Make sexually explicit material available to a person under 14 years of age

–      Agreement to commit a sexual offence against a person under 14 years of age

–      Luring a person under 14 years of age by means of telecommunication

–      Possession of child pornography

–      Indecent exposure to a person under 16 years of age.

The accused was held for bail before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

On February 20, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m., police received a complaint regarding someone who appeared to be distress and not dressed for the weather on McClelland Road South in the Township of Hamilton.

Officers arrived and following speaking to both parties who were present, it transpired that neither were meant to be in the company of the other as a result of a previous incident.

A 58-year-old male and a 44-year-old female, were both arrested and charged with:

–      Failure to comply with undertaking

They are due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

On February 21, 2025, shortly after 9:30 a.m., officers received a complaint regarding an individual who had been trespassed from a commercial property on Grand Road in the Municipality of Trent Hills.

OPP arrived and following refusal to leave despite being directed by police, a 40-year-old male of no fixed address was arrested and charged with:

–      Fail to leave premises when directed.

The individual is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

On February 23, 2025, at around 6:15 a.m., OPP responded to a report of a collision involving a snow plow truck and a passenger vehicle on Highway 401 westbound in the Municipality of Port Hope. Emergency Medical Services were also dispatched to the incident where the passenger vehicle sustained heavy damage.

A 23-year-old male driver from Port Hope was transported to a local hospital with non-serious injuries where he was later charged with:

–      Unsafe move – lane or shoulder.

This highlights the dangers of following too closely in winter conditions. Snowplows and emergency service vehicles are on the highway to keep the public safe, whether by clearing snow and ice or responding to collisions and emergencies. Incidents like this not only put workers at risk but also take essential vehicles out of service, delaying road maintenance and emergency response. Drivers are reminded to slow down, give snowplows plenty of space, and exercise patience to ensure everyone gets home safely.

Members of Northumberland OPP are committed to public safety, delivering proactive and innovative policing in partnership with our communities. Officers value your contribution to building safe communities.
