More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – Two drivers were arrested for impaired on separate traffic stops in Kapuskasing this past weekend.

On July 19, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Brunelle Road North in Kapuskasing.

Upon speaking with the driver, police determined that they had been consuming an intoxicating substance. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing. 

As a result of the investigation, Maxime BROUSSEAU, 36 years of age of Kapuskasing, was charged with operation while impaired – drugs.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 9, 2024, in Kapuskasing. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

On July 20, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Brunelle Road North in Kapuskasing.

Upon speaking with the driver, police determined that they had been consuming an intoxicating substance. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing. The driver was also found to be breaching a previous release order, and a driver’s licence condition to have an ignition interlock device.

As a result of the investigation, James YAKOWENKO, 33 years of age of Kapuskasing, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – drugs

·        Operation while prohibited

·        Drive motor vehicle – not equipped with ignition interlock device

·        Fail to comply with release order (two counts)

·        Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

·        Use plates not authorized for vehicle

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 9, 2024, in Kapuskasing. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

Cameron RAFFAELE – Impaired Driving

(MUSKOKA LAKES TWP, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person with impaired operation of a vessel after responding to a boating collision in Georgian Bay Township.

On July 19, 2024, at 10:30 p.m. Bracebridge OPP officers along with Muskoka EMS and Georgian Bay Fire Department responded to reports of a boat that hit a floating dock and was circling out of control on Stewart Lake in Georgian Bay Township. Officers arrived and commenced an investigation and the operator was safely brought to shore. He was assessed by paramedics and released at the scene and the boat was brought under control. Police have charged 47-year-old Cameron RAFFAELE of Mactier, ON with the following offenses:

  • Operation While Impaired – Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(a)
  • Operating a Boat Underway with Open Container of Liquor
  • Operating Non-Human-Powered Pleasure Craft Without PFD

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 27, 2024 to answer to his charges. Vessel operators who are charged with impaired driving offenses suffer the same consequence as those operating motor vehicles, including an immediate 90 day drivers license suspension.

Stephen GOOD – Impaired Driving

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged another person with impaired driving offences after responding to a motor vehicle collision in Bracebridge, ON.

On July 21, 2024, at 8:40 a.m. Bracebridge OPP officers responded to reports of a vehicle that was in the ditch on Mattiasville Road in Bracebridge. Officers arrived and commenced an investigation into the cause of the collision and subsequently arrested and charged 28-year-old Stephen GOOD of Bracebridge, ON with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 27, 2024 to answer to his charges. Drivers who are charged with impaired driving offenses also suffer an immediate 90 day drivers license suspension and have their vehicle impounded.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged four individuals over the weekend with Impaired driving related offences.  

Between July 19, 2024, and July 22, 2024, officers from the Orillia detachment of the OPP were dispatched to multiple traffic complaints and conducted regular traffic patrols within the City of Orillia and surrounding townships. Members of the community called the provinces emergency service numbers and as a result, seventeen charges were laid over the weekend by responding officers. A total of four drivers were arrested and charged. Four vehicles were impounded, and the drivers’ licenses were suspended.

Motorists are asked to prioritize safety on our roads by slowing down, driving safely, cautiously, and never drive impaired.

As a result, Sebastian TUFFORD; 18-year-old, from Barrie has been subsequently charged with:

  • Operation while impaired by alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – 80 plus
  • Failure or refusal to comply with probation order

As a result, Naman KHATRI; 20-year-old, from Barrie has been subsequently charged with:

  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Public Mischief
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation while impaired by alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – 80 plus
  • Fail to properly wear seatbelt
  • Novice Driver – B.A.C. above zero
  • Driving while under suspension
  • G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver
  • Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor

As a result, Taylor Douglas EDWARDS; 26-year-old, from St. Catharines has been subsequently charged with:

  • Operation while impaired

As a result, Wesley Peter Charles TUZYK; 33-year-old, from Orillia has been subsequently charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Failure or refusal to comply with a demand

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two drivers with impaired operation within one night shift.

On July 18, 2024, just after 11:00 p.m., Caledon OPP received a report of a vehicle in a truck yard on George Bolton Parkway. Officers attended to investigate. Grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Gurpreet GILL, 49, of Caledon, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Shortly after, on July 19, 2024, just after midnight, officers on patrol on Highway 410 near Mayfield Road observed a vehicle being operated in a concerning manner. The vehicle was stopped, and officers met with the driver. Grounds were formed that the driver’s ability to operation a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Nimish MALHOTRA, 23, of Rexdale, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

Both accused are scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on August 8, 2024, to answer to the charges. The driver’s licences were also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicles impounded for seven.

Caledon OPP would like to take this opportunity to educate motorists on the rules and consequences for novice and young drivers when it comes to the consumption of alcohol or drugs:

1. Ontario drivers with the licence class of G1 or G2 are considered novice drivers.

2. Ontario drivers under the age of 22 are considered young drivers.

3. Young and novice drivers cannot consume any alcohol or drug before operating a motor vehicle. This means young and novice drivers must have zero traces of alcohol or drug when operating a vehicle.

There is a zero-tolerance policy for impaired drivers on our roads and the OPP is committed to ensuring all drivers understand the rules and consequences before getting behind the wheel.

If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, do not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it. Ian MONTGOMERY – Impaired Driving

(NORTH BAY, ON) – One person arrested for Impaired on All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV). 

On July 13, 2024, shortly before 5:00 p.m., the Powassan Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an ATV complaint on Genesee Lake Road, Powassan. 

Through investigation, Ian MONTGOMERY, 26 years-of-age of Powassan was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired, alcohol or drugs
  • Operation while impaired, blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. They are scheduled to appear at the North Bay Ontario Court of Justice on August 06, 2024.

Jean Anne WHIFFIN – Impaired Driving

(SOUTH PORCUPINE, ON) – One person has been charged with impaired while police were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) program.

On July 12, 2024, shortly after 10:30 p.m., members of the Iroquois Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE program at the intersection of Highway 101 and Municipal Road in German Township.

As a result, Jean Anne WHIFFIN, 63 years-old, of Oshawa was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – drugs.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and their vehicle was impounded

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 29, 2024, in Timmins.

The OPP remains committed to ensuring Ontario roads are safe from drug-impaired and alcohol-impaired drivers.

James BROOME Was Arrested

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Central Huron resident with several offences following a traffic stop south of Goderich on June 24th, 2024. 

At approximately 10:10 p.m. on Monday, June 24th, a Huron County OPP officer observed a vehicle travelling on Bluewater Highway and conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act violation. In speaking to the driver, the officer believed the driver had consumed alcohol prior to driving and demanded a breath sample. The driver provided a roadside breath sample, which resulted in a “failure”. The driver was then arrested for impaired operation and transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton for further breath tests.

The accused then refused to provide the further required breath samples once at detachment.  

James BROOME, 65 years-of-age from Central Huron has been charged with:

–      Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand.

The accused was additionally charged with offences found in the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA).

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused’ driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.

The accused was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 29th at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Corey GIBSON – Impaired Driving

(ORILLIA, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged two individuals. One investigation was conducted after a concerned citizen alerted police to an impaired driver and the second investigation was conducted through regular traffic patrols within the City of Orillia.

On July 16, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers from the Orillia detachment of the OPP were alerted by a concerned citizen to an individual that had been drinking and was attempting to drive a vehicle in an Orillia parking lot. Officers located the individual within the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, where they were arrested and charged with impaired related offences.  

As a result, Adam POULTON; 40-year-old, from Orillia has been subsequently charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with a demand

Later that same day at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers from the Orillia detachment of the OPP while conducting regular patrols observed a commercial vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop and were led into an impaired driving investigation. One individual was arrested and charged with impaired related offences.  

As a result, Corey GIBSON; 37-year-old, from North Bay has been subsequently charged with:

  • Adult operation while impaired

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges on August 27, 2024.

Sankeethan NAGARAJAH Was Arrested

(MUNICIPALITY OF BRIGHTON, ON) – Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with refusal following a traffic complaint.

On July 15, 2024, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Police responded to a traffic complaint regarding a motorist on Little Lake Road in the Municipality of Brighton. The complainant advised that the vehicle was swerving and travelling at a very slow rate of speed.

Officers located the described vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the driver, they were determined to be under the influence of alcohol. OPP made an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand of which the driver refused to comply.

Sankeethan NAGARAJAH, 21-years-old, of Colborne, has been arrested and charged with:

–      Failure or refusal to comply with demand

–      Novice driver refuse to provide breath sample

–      Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available.

The individual had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before then Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

The Northumberland OPP remind motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.

More Impaired Drivers

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The driver of a motor vehicle and a vessel operator are both facing impaired driving charges following separate investigations.

At approximately 5:51 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2024, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding a suspected impaired driver on Highway 3 in Woodhouse, Norfolk County.

Officers responding to the call located the vehicle on Highway 3, and after conducting a roadside sobriety assessment, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 38-year-old Amanda GREEN of Hamilton, Ontario:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

At approximately 11:21 p.m. that same day, marine officers from the Norfolk County OPP Detachment responded to a report of an overdue vessel on Lake Erie in Norfolk County.

With assistance from the Canadian Coast Guard, the vessel was recovered and brought back to shore.

Upon arriving at an address on Clubhouse Road in Turkey Point, Norfolk County, the vessel operator was evaluated for sobriety and was subsequently taken into custody without incident.

Charged with the following alleged offence is 49-year-old Clement BROWN of Toronto, Ontario:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Simcoe on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

Two Arrested On 401

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested two individuals in unrelated incidents on Highway 401.

On July 8, 2024, shortly before 2:00 a.m., an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 eastbound in the Municipality of Port Hope when a motor vehicle was observed travelling at 152 km/h in a posted 100 km/h limit. The vehicle briefly stopped for police before taking off and exiting the highway. An investigation commenced and July 12, 2024, OPP arrested an individual in relation to the incident.

Hamza HANIF, 28-years-old, from Milton, has been charged with:

–      Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed

–      Obstruct peace officer

–      Flight from peace officer

–      Dangerous Operation.

The accused is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date. The driver also had their licence suspended for 30 days.

On July 13, 2024, at approximately 5:55 p.m., while on patrol on Highway 401 westbound in the Township of Cramahe, police were alerted to a suspended driver by the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) in their cruiser. A traffic stop was conducted and following investigation, the driver was arrested.

Rohan NAVARATNARAJAH, 56-years-old, from Pickering, has been charged with:

–      Operation while prohibited.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date. The individual also had their vehicle impounded for 45 days.

The Northumberland Detachment would like to remind the public that drivers and other road users can significantly contribute to safer roads by avoiding taking unnecessary risks and complying with all traffic laws.

Crystal FEVREAU Was Arrested

(MUSKOKA LAKES TWP, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person with impaired driving offences after responding to reports of a collision in Muskoka Lakes Township.

On July 14, 2024, at 8:50 p.m. Bracebridge OPP officers along with Muskoka EMS and Muskoka Lakes Fire Department attended a collision scene on Muskoka Road 169 near Hamills Point Road after a single vehicle left the roadway and landed down a deep embankment. Members of the public tried to assist as the driver fled the scene and police located her at a nearby licensed establishment.

Police have arrested and charged 40-year-old Crystal FEVREAU of Bracebridge with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b). She will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 27, 2024, to answer to her charges. Drivers who are charged with impaired driving offenses also suffer an immediate 90-day drivers license suspension and have their vehicle impounded.

Martin Ariel LANDIZ OROZCO – Impaired Driving

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – Police were able to locate and arrest an impaired driver thanks to a traffic complaint received from the public.

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on Friday July 12, 2024, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oxford Detachment, were dispatched to Mount Elgin Road in Norwich Township to locate a vehicle that was the subject of a traffic complaint.

Police located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. After speaking to the driver, police observed further signs of impairment and made an arrest.

Martin Ariel LANDIZ OROZCO, 35 years-of-age of Leamington, was charged with the following Criminal Code offence:

·      Operation While Impaired

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, located in Woodstock, on August 13, 2024.

More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(KAPUSKASING, ON) – Two separate investigations from earlier this year have resulted in charges for impaired driving. 

On January 30, 2024, shortly after 6:00 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a collision between a vehicle and a moose, on Highway 11 in Fauquier-Strickland.

The involved driver was transported via ambulance to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Upon investigation, officers determined the driver had been consuming an intoxicating substance. Officers attended the hospital, and a blood sample was taken from the driver and sent away for analysis.

On June 16, 2024, as a result of the investigation, Veronik GOSSELIN-CHABOT, 31 years of age of Becanour, QC, was charged with the following:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·        Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration

·        Driving vehicle with cannabis readily available

·        Drive motor vehicle, no permit

·        Driver motor vehicle, no plates

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 15, 2024, in Kapuskasing.

On April 26, shortly after 5:30 p.m., the James Bay OPP responded to a report of an unconscious person in the driver’s seat of a moving pickup truck, on Government Road in Kapuskasing.

Police arrived on scene, and the vehicle had been stopped by bumper contact with another vehicle. The involved driver was transported via ambulance to hospital. Officers attended the hospital, determined the driver had been consuming an intoxicating substance, and a blood sample was taken and sent away for analysis.

On July 7, 2024, as a result of the investigation, Danielle DOSTIE, 34 years of age of Kapuskasing, was charged with the following:

·        Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration

·        Dangerous operation

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 9, 2024, in Kapuskasing.
