Darcy SMITH – Drunk Driving

(WEST PERTH, ON) – A driving complaint from the public leads to an impaired charge. 

On September 1, 2024, at approximately 11:19 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint involving a suspected impaired driver. Police located the vehicle and driver on Perth Line 24 near Perth Road 180, in the Municipality of West Perth. 

During the investigation, an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized on the driver.  The driver was arrested and transported to detachment where further tests were administered.

As a result, Darcy SMITH, a 55-year-old of Bluewater, has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

–      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on October 7, 2024 to speak to the charges.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

Andrew BURRELL – Drunk Driving

(PERTH SOUTH TWP, ON) – A driver is arrested and charged for impaired after a motor vehicle collision investigation.

At approximately 11:26 p.m. on August 31, 2024, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were investigating a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 7 near Line 26, Township of Perth South. 

Police located a pickup truck in the ditch on Highway 7. During the investigation, an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized on the driver. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment where further tests were administered. 

As a result, Andrew BURRELL, a 36-year-old of Stratford, has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

–      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

–      Novice driver – BAC above zero

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on October 7, 2024 to speak to the charges.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

Clive CAUSON – Drunk Driving

(PERTH EAST, ON) – A driver is facing an impaired driving charge as a result of an OPP RIDE check.

On August 30, 2024, at 9:10 p.m., members of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted in a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Perth Line 55 near Perth Road 131, in the Township of Perth East.

A vehicle entered the program at which time a traffic stop was initiated.

It was determined that the driver had previously consumed alcohol. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment where further tests were administered. 

As a result, Clive CAUSON, a 62-year-old of Wellesley, has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus). 

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on October 7, 2024 to speak to the charges.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

Anick Lachapelle – Drunk Driving

(EMBRUN, ON) – Members of the Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a motorist for impaired driving.

On August 31, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers in Embrun received a traffic complaint from a member of the public who stated following a black Chevy pickup truck that was swerving all over the road and hitting the curb. Officers located the vehicle shortly after and the driver was arrested for impaired operation.

The driver was transported to the Embrun OPP Detachment for further testing and failed with her blood alcohol concentration being nearly 5 times the legal limit.  

As a result of the investigation, Anick Lachapelle, from Embrun, was charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Adult novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero
  • Drive motor vehicle – no licence

The motorist received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension, and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on September 25, 2024.

Jeffery DOUGLAS – Drunk Driving

(WARWICK, ON) – A traffic stop led to one individual being arrested and charged for driving while impaired.

On September 1, 2024, at approximately 1:03 a.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Forest Road, Warwick Township.

As a result of the investigation, Jeffery DOUGLAS, 52-year-old of the Municipality of Lambton Shores, was charged under the Criminal Code with the following offence:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on October 7, 2024, in the City of Sarnia to speak to the charge.

Jill O’BRIEN – Drunk Driving

(LONDON, ON) – Driver facing impaired charge as a result of OPP RIDE Program.

On September 1, 2024, at 2:07 a.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police were engaged in a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program in the Westbound lanes of Highway 401 at Veterans Memorial Parkway in the City of London.

A vehicle entered the program at which time a traffic stop was initiated.

It was determined the driver had previously consumed alcohol. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to the Middlesex OPP detachment where further tests were administered.

As a result, Jill O’BRIEN, a 49-year-old of Whitby, has been charged under the Criminal Code and Liquor Licence Control Act with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on October 16, 2024.

Kevin MCCARTHY – Drunk Driving

(ST. CLAIR, ON) – The Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged an individual with impaired driving following a traffic stop.

On September 1, 2024, at approximately 12: 26 a.m., a member of Lambton County OPP conducted a traffic stop on Buckingham Road, St. Clair Township.

As a result of the investigation, Kevin MCCARTHY, 63-year-old of Wallaceburg, was charged under the Criminal Code with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on October 1, 2024, in the City of Sarnia to speak to the charges.

Kristopher R. MATTS – Drunk Driving

(CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) – On September 02, 2024, at approximately 2:45 p.m officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wellington County Detachment were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Orangeville Road, Fergus.

During the operation, a vehicle was stopped, and the driver was assessed for sobriety.  As a result of the investigation, Kristopher R. MATTS, 43-years-old of Centre Wellington, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Concentration 80 plus

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice – Guelph, at a later date.

Robin NOOTCHTAI – Drunk Driving

(ATIKAMEKSHENG FIRST NATION, ON) – One person was arrested and charged after a report of a possible impaired driver.

On August 31, 2024, at approximately 11:50 p.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service about a possible impaired driver on Reserve Road, Atikameksheng First Nation.

Police located the vehicle and arrested the driver for impaired driving, then transported the driver to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Robin NOOTCHTAI, 30 years-of-age, from Atikameksheng First Nation, was charged with, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and operation while impaired – alcohol

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on September 18, 2024, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Reginald Galbraith – Drunk Driving

(ATIKOKAN, ON) – A traffic complaint about a motorhome swerving on the road ended with the arrest of an impaired driver.

On September 2, 2024, at approximately 8:00 pm, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Atikokan responded to a report of a motorhome that was swerving all over the road. Officers located the vehicle on Highway 11 near Armis Lake and conducted a vehicle stop.

The responding officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol and conducted a roadside screening test. The driver failed the test and was arrested and transported to the Atikokan OPP detachment where additional breath testing was completed by demand.  

Reginald Galbraith, 72-years-old, from Thunder Bay is charged with one count of impaired operation blood alcohol concentration 80 mgs plus. The accused’s driver’s license was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The accused was released by police and is scheduled to appear in the Atikokan Ontario Court of Justice on October 24, 2024, to speak to the charge.

Fact about impaired driving, the offence of impaired operation doesn’t mean the vehicle or conveyance needs to be moving. In law, operation is presumed if a person is occupying the driver’s seat. The onus is on the accused to establish that they did not occupy that seat for the purpose of setting the conveyance in motion. Road safety is the shared responsibility of everyone. If you suspect an impaired driver, call 9-1-1.

Andrew MERAW – Drunk Driving

(KINCARDINE, ON) – Driver arrested for Impaired driving after South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attend motor vehicle collision.    

On September 2, 2024, at 10:06 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report for a single motor vehicle collision on Bruce Road 23 in the Municipality of Kincardine.

The uninjured driver was found to have been under the influence of alcohol. They were placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified breath technician.

Andrew MERAW 28-years-old, from the Municipality of Kincardine was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation over 80
  • Dangerous Driving

Scott KALAUZ – Drunk Driving

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – A single vehicle collision on Highway 11 that sent two people to hospital resulted in several charges for the alcohol impaired driver.

On August 30, 2024, at approximately 10:00 pm, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Fort Frances responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 11 approximately 40 km east of Fort Frances. The involved vehicle left the highway and collided with a rock cut. Both driver and passenger of the vehicle were transported by ambulance to the hospital in Fort Frances for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation into the collision determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and breath testing was completed by demand at the hospital.

Scott KALAUZ, 33-years-old from Winnipeg MB was arrested and charged with the following criminal offences:

–      Impaired operation alcohol and drug

–      Impaired operation blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

–      Dangerous operation

–      Utter threats death or bodily harm

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released by police and is scheduled to appear in the Fort Frances Ontario Court of Justice on October 7, 2024, to speak to the charges.  

Fact about impaired driving, breath testing equipment is portable. A Qualified Technician can conduct a breath test anywhere there is a power supply available. If you can’t provide a breath sample due to injury, police can make a blood sample demand that a medical practitioner can complete. If you plan to drink, do not plan to drive.

Anna AGGIO – Drunk Driving

(TINY TOWNSHIP,ON) – A number of driving complaints to the OPP Communication Centre at 9:20 p.m. August 29, 2024 led officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment. to attend the Balm Beach, Tiny Township beach front area to locate a vehicle being operated by a possibly impaired driver.

Attending officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle and the driver just north of the beach front and upon speaking with the driver, the officer entered into an impaired driving investigation.

As a result of this investigation, Anna AGGIO, 60 years of age of Tiny Township has been charged with the following criminal code driving offences.

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 12, 2024, was served a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Noel BOMBERRY- Drunk Driving

(BRANT, ON) – A Brantford resident is facing charges following a traffic stop on Colborne Street East.

On August 29, 2024, at approximately 8:20 a.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Brant Detachment, initiated a traffic stop with a passenger vehicle after it was found speeding on Colborne Street East, Brant County.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test was administered, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Haldimand Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Noel BOMBERRY, a 28-year-old from Brantford was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Speeding 1-49 km/h over posted limit
  • Novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 45-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on September 12, 2024.

Henry HAMM – Drunk Driving

(BAYHAM, ON) – The Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located and investigated a vehicle after a Good Samaritan reported a suspected impaired driver in the Municipality of Bayham.

On August 28, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m., members of the Elgin County OPP located the vehicle on Plank Road near Heritage Line, Municipality of Bayham.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test was administered, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Elgin OPP, St. Thomas Detachment, for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Henry HAMM, a 36-year-old from Norfolk County was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Driving while under suspension

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on October 22, 2024.

The OPP would like to take this opportunity to thank the individual who contacted police and reported this incident. As a direct result, officers were able to safely locate the vehicle and take the driver into custody.
