Douglas VROOM – Drunk Driving

(Orillia, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a driver with impaired operation related charges.

On March 27, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m, officers from Orillia OPP were conducting Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) on a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) on Bass Lake Side Road at Line 6 in Oro-Medonte. While screening all drivers that enter the RIDE, police encountered one driver that provided a Fail on a Approved Screening Device (ASD).

As a result, Douglas VROOM, 54-years-old, from Coldwater, ON has been charged with:

Operation while impaired-alcohol blood concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in April 2025. As a result of these charges, his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

Alisa ZAYNUTDINOVA – Drunk Driving

(HALIBURTON COUNTY, ON) – Members of the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver with an impaired operation related offence as the result of a traffic complaint.

On March 25, 2025, at approximately 11:16 p.m., Haliburton OPP officers were dispatched to a traffic complaint in the area of South Lake Road in Minden Hills Township. Officers arrived in the area and located the vehicle in question. The vehicle had entered the ditch. After a brief conversation, the officers were quickly led to an impaired driving investigation.

As a result, Alisa ZAYNUTDINOVA, a 24-year-old from Minden Hills Township has been charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden at a future date.

Alexsandra ARROWSMITH Was Arrested

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged another driver with impaired driving after a traffic stop on Highway 118 in Bracebridge.

At 8:00 p.m. on March 26, 2025 a Bracebridge OPP officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 118 East in Bracebridge and stopped a vehicle to investigate a traffic infraction. As a result of their investigation, officers arrested and charged 32-year-old Alexsandra ARROWSMITH, of Gravenhurst, ON, with Operation while Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b). She will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on April 29, 2025 to answer to her charges.

(HALIBURTON COUNTY, ON) – Members of the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver of a motor vehicle with impaired operation related offences as the result of a traffic complaint.

On March 27, 2025, at approximately 12:08 a.m. Haliburton Highlands OPP were dispatched to a traffic complaint in the area of highway 35 in Algonquin Highlands Township.  Officers patrolled the area and located the vehicle in question and conducted a traffic stop. After speaking with the driver, the officers were quickly led to an impaired driving investigation.

As a result, Kaleb MARPLE-HUGHES, a 22-year-old from Bobcaygeon has been charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·        Operation while impaired – blood concentration (80 plus)

·        Driving motor vehicle with open container of alcohol – (LLCA)

·        Novice Driver BAC above zero – (HTA)

In addition to the charges, the accused was issued a 90-day licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden at a future date.

Blair HOLLER – Hit & Run, Drunk Driving

(CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two individuals with impaired driving related charges in the same day.

On March 24, 2025, at approximately 1:20 p.m., Huronia West OPP officers were conducting stationary patrol in Clearview Township. Officers observed a vehicle strike a sign and continued southbound on Highway 26. Officers were able to locate the vehicle at a nearby parking lot and conducted a traffic stop. After speaking with the driver, officers noticed and odour of alcohol and conducted an impaired driving investigation. As a result of the investigation, Blair HOLLER, 36-year-old of Angus was arrested and has been charged with the following:

·      Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

·      Fail to Remain (HTA)

·      Fail to Report and Accident (HTA)

·      Novice Driver – BAC Above Zero (HTA)

·      Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor (LLCA)

On March 24, 2025, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Huronia West OPP officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. spot check on 27-28 Sideroad, Nottawasaga in Clearview Township. Officers spoke with a driver during the stop and noticed an odour of alcohol which led into an impaired driving investigation. As a result of the investigation, Aaryn VERRA, 26-year-old of Clearview Township, was arrested and has been charged with the following:

·      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

The accused are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Police Finally Crack Down On Drunk Driving In Wasaga Beach – 4 More Arrested

(WASAGA BEACH, SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged four individuals with impaired driving related charges over the course of one day.

On March 16, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Huronia West OPP officers responded to a single vehicle collision on County Road 90 west of George Johnson Road in Springwater Township. Officers located the vehicle and the driver at the address provided. After noticing an odour of alcohol, officers conducted an impaired driving investigation on the driver. As a result of the investigation, Isabel FARR, 19-year-old of Beeton New Tecumseth was arrested and has been charged with the following:

·      Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

On March 16, 2025, at approximately 3:43 a.m., Huronia West OPP officers responded to an individual driving an all-terrain vehicle on County Road 90 in Springwater Township. Officers located the vehicle and its driver at a nearby gas station. After speaking with the individual, officers noticed an odour of alcohol and conducted an impaired driving investigation. As a result of the investigation, Michael HUGHES, 40-year-old of Essa Township was arrested and has been charged with the following:

·      Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand

·      Two counts of Mischief Under $5000

·      Fail to Comply with Probation Order

On March 16, 2025, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Huronia West OPP officers were conducting general patrol on Queen Street East Road in Springwater Township. Officers were alerted to a possible suspended driver by the in car Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system and conducted a traffic stop. The driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee from police but was caught and arrested at the scene. As a result of the investigation, Matthew LABADIE, 28-year-old of Barrie was arrested and has been charged with the following:

·      Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Flight from Peace Officer

·      Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance

·      Driving while Under Suspension (HTA)

·      Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit (HTA)

On March 16, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Huronia West OPP officers responded to a possible impaired driver on Rose Valley Way in Wasaga Beach. Officers located the vehicle and spoke to the driver. After noticing an odour of alcohol, officers conducted an impaired driving investigation on the driver. As a result of the investigation, James SCHMIDT, 49-year-old of Wasaga Beach was arrested and has been charged with the following:

·      Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

·      Dangerous Operation

·      Failure to Comply with Release Order – other than to attend court

The accused are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Nigel KING Was Arrested

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with impaired operation following a collision.

On March 26, 2025, at around 10:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of a single vehicle collision in the area of Division Street in Roseneath.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Fire Department also responded to the incident along with police.

OPP arrived at the location and observed the vehicle which had collided with a tree. Upon speaking with the driver, police entered an impaired operation investigation. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made of which the motorist complied. With the result of ‘FAIL’, the individual was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further tests. Further investigation revealed that the person was suspended along with a number of other offences.

As a result, Nigel KING (age 44), from the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Driving while under suspension

–      Operate motor vehicle without insurance

–      Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

–      Fail to remain

–      Use plate not authorized for vehicle

–      Fail to notify change of address

–      Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner.

In addition to a future court date for the accused, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 9-1-1. In doing so, you may save a life. Whether you are impaired by alcohol or drugs, impaired is impaired and driving under the influence of either is a criminal offence. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture.

Elaine BAIRD – Drunk Driving

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – An individual has been charged as a result of an impaired driving incident in Port Dover.

At approximately 11:18 a.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025, a Norfolk County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer conducted a traffic stop and initiated an investigation on Thompson Drive in Port Dover, Norfolk County.

After completing a roadside sobriety test, the driver was taken into custody without incident.

58-year-old Elaine BAIRD from Norfolk County has been charged with the following alleged offences:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).,
  • Prohibited use of alternating beam headlights.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Christine SCHULTZ – Drunk Driving

(PEMBROKE, ON) – A Laurentian Valley Township resident is facing Criminal Code (CC) impaired driving charges after an incident in the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment area.

On the afternoon of March 21, 2025, members of the UOV OPP responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in the City of Pembroke. Police located the vehicle and driver on Pembroke Street West. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized, and the driver was transported to the detachment where readings in excess of two and a half times the legal blood alcohol limit were obtained.   

As a result of this incident 60-year-old Christine SCHULTZ has been charged with the following CC offences:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 14, 2025.

Milind RAVAL – Drunk Driving

(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) criminally charge a Kitchener resident, stemming from a two motor-vehicle collision.

On March 24, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m., members of the Wellington County OPP attended the scene of a two motor-vehicle collision on Wellington Road 31, within Guelph-Eramosa Township.

As a result of the investigation, Milind RAVAL, a 45-year-old of Kitchener is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

There were no injuries as a result of the collision.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Guelph on April 11, 2025.

Menno MARTIN Was Arrested

(BROCKTON, ON) – On March 25, 2025, at approximately 7:55 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single motor vehicle collision along Concession 6, Municipality of Brockton.

The investigating officer detected signs of impairment from the involved driver. The driver was placed under arrest and transported for further testing.

Menno MARTIN, 59-years-old, of the Municipality of Brockton, was charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), CC 320.14(1)(b)
  • Dangerous operation, CC 320.13(1)

The accused is set to appear at the Walkerton Court of Justice on May 7, 2025 to answer to the charges.

Karlee DEGAZIO – Drunk Driving

(TWEED, ON) – A traffic stop for speeding has resulted in impaired driving charges for a Belleville resident.

On Saturday, March 22, 2025, shortly before 3:00 p.m., an officer with the OPP TIME (Traffic Incident Management Enforcement) team was driving on Highway 37 near Tweed when he was passed by car travelling at more than 120-kilometres per hour in an 80 zone.

The car was stopped, and an approved roadside screening device was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to an OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Karlee DEGAZIO, age 24, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • Driving a vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Speeding
  • Fail to surrender driver’s licence
  • Fail to surrender insurance card

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on April 10, 2025.

The individual’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Myles ILLINGWORTH – Drunk Driving

(LEAMINGTON, ON) – One person has been charged following a traffic stop in Leamington.

On March 24, 2025, at approximately 7:15 p.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop in relation to the “Stay-Focused Distracted Driving Initiative” on County Road 33 in the Municipality of Leamington.

Myles ILLINGWORTH, 33-years-old of Essex, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act and Highway Traffic Act offences:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive – hand held communication device
  • Failure to surrender insurance card
  • Windshield obstructed

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice – Windsor on April 16, 2025, to answer to the charges.

Drunk Drivers Being Arrested 2 At A Time Now In Kincardine

(KINCARDINE, ON) – On March 22, 2025, at approximately 10:49 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a disturbance in the area of King Street, Municipality of Kincardine.

On arrival, police discovered that the subject of the complaint had been operating a motor vehicle. The investigating officer detected signs of impairment from the involved driver. While investigating the initial matter, a second vehicle approached the area, nearly striking a police cruiser. The investigating officer detected signs of impairment from the involved driver of the second vehicle. Both drivers were placed under arrest and transported for further testing.

David JEFFERY, 47-years-old, of New Brunswick, was charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), CC 320.14(1)(b)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance, CDSA 4(1)

Benjamin NOWAK, 49-years-old, of the Municipality of Kincardine, was charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), CC 320.14(1)(b)
  • Dangerous Operation, CC 320.13(1)

Both accused drivers are set to appear at the Walkerton Court of Justice at a later date to answer to the charges.

Yuliya LESYK – Drunk Driving

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a motorist for impaired driving after a collision on Highway 401.

On Saturday March 22, 2025, just after 6:00 p.m., Quinte West OPP was conducting radar enforcement on the eastbound 401, and an officer had stopped a vehicle for speeding. While the officer was speaking to the driver on the shoulder of the road, a second, unrelated vehicle stopped on the shoulder. That driver wanted to advise the officer of a suspected impaired driver.

Moments later, a vehicle (the one in which the driver was suspected to be impaired) drove into the back of the stopped vehicle, pushing it forward into the initial vehicle stopped by police. The impact pushed the officer into the ditch.

Other officers, Quinte West Fire and Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Service responded to the scene. There were no serious injuries were sustained.

The driver of the vehicle which collided with the others was arrested and transported to the Quinte West OPP Detachment for testing.

Yuliya LESYK, a 45-year-old resident of Oakville, has been charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Dangerous operation

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville, April 10,2025. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for seven days, and their licence was suspended for 90 days.

If you suspect that someone is driving or about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it. Provided as much detail about the vehicle and driver as possible. The quicker police receive the information, the quicker they can respond. You could save a life.

This incident also reflects the need for ALL drivers to slow down and move over when approaching stopped police, other emergency vehicles, or tow trucks, stopped at the side of the road.
