Christopher MAVENYENGWA & Felix MUTANDWA Were Arrested – Details Released

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – Police arrested two individuals after a member of the public called in a concern for a disabled vehicle.

At approximately 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2024, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oxford Detachment, were dispatched to a disabled vehicle, that was partially blocking a live lane, on Highway 401, in South-West Oxford.

After assessment at the scene and further investigation at detachment police arrested and charged two individuals.

Christopher MAVENYENGWA, a 48-year-old of Burlington, has been charged with the following Liquor Licence Act and Criminal Code offences:

·      Resist Peace Officer

·      Intoxicated in a Public Place

Felix MUTANDWA, a 42-year-old of Guelph, has been charged with the following Highway Traffic Act and Criminal Code offences:

·      Operation While Impaired

·      Operation While Impaired -Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·      Drive While Under Suspension

Both individuals have been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

·      Fraud Over $5000

·      Fraud Under $5000

·      Possession of Identification Documents

·      Possession of Forged Documents

·      Possession of Credit Cards

The accused individuals have been held for a bail hearing and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice located in Woodstock on April 5, 2024.

Head On Collision – WRPS Withholds Name Of DD – Do Your Drunk Driving In KW To Remain Anonymous

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police arrest driver for impaired after responding to collision in Waterloo.

On April 4, 2024, at approximately 7:20 p.m., police responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision in the area of King Street South and Union Street East.

The driver of a blue Cadillac was travelling east on Union Street East and sideswiped the driver of a black Chevrolet travelling west. The driver of the Cadillac then struck the driver of a gold BMW in a head-on-collision, then left the roadway, travelled over a sidewalk and struck a building.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged the driver of the Cadillac, a 21-year-old Waterloo male with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drug
  • Operation While Impaired Blood Alcohol Concentration
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available
  • Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit
  • Novice Driver – B.A.C. Above Zero
  • Novice Driver – Presence of Drug

The investigation remains ongoing by WRPS’ Traffic Services Unit.

Andrew Hepburn Was Arrested – Details Released

(TERRACE BAY, ON) – A traffic complaint has resulted in one individual facing multiple charges including both impaired and stunt driving.

On April 2, 2024, at approximately 11:30 a.m., members of the Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment received a traffic complaint regarding an erratic driver travelling along Highway 17 near Terrace Bay.

Officers observed the vehicle to be travelling at 146 Kilometers per hour in a posted 90 Kilometers per hour zone. A traffic stop was conducted. The driver failed a roadside test and was subsequently placed under arrest for impaired driving. The driver was also found to be a suspended driver.

The driver was brought back to the Schreiber OPP Detachment for further testing.

Andrew Hepburn, 27-years-old of Elliot Lake has been charged with:

·        Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·        Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

·        Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt

·        Driving While Under Suspension

The accused is now facing a 90-Day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-Day vehicle impoundment. The accused was released from custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on a later date.

Herbert VALERA Arrested For Drunk Driving

(BROCKTON, ON) – On April 3, 2024, at 8:32 p.m., a South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol stopped a vehicle along Highway 9 in Brockton.

The driver was found to have been drinking alcohol. They were placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified Breath Technician for breath tests.

Herbert VALERA, 42-years-old, from the Municipality of Brockton was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

One Airlifted, 3 Others Sent To Hospital – Keith Fowler – Drunk Driving

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) closed Hwy 35 for a serious collision involving a pickup truck and passenger vehicle. 

On November 05, 2023 at approximately 3:05 pm, officers responded, alongside with Kawartha Lakes Fire and EMS, to a motor vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and passenger vehicle.

Four patients were sent to Toronto Hospitals for treatment, one of which was airlifted.

The highway was closed from Powells Road to Country Lane Road for approximately 7 hours for the duration of an investigation with the OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Reconstructionists.          

On April 04, 2024 the driver and single occupant of the pick-up truck was arrested and charged with additional charges related to the investigation.

8 Drivers Arrested – Names Released

(Orillia, ON) – The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Rama Police Service have arrested and charged 8 individuals with impaired operation related charges in the past 6 days.

On March 29, 2024, at about 5:45 a.m., officers from Orillia OPP responded to a complaint of a noisy vehicle parked in the area of Walker ave in the City of Orillia. An Officer attended and discovered the vehicle to be running and an individual occupying the drivers seat. As a result of the investigation, it was determined the individual was impaired by alcohol. The individual was then arrested.

As a result, Trevor DASTOUS, 24-years-old, from Orillia has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Breach of Probation

On March 29, 2024, at about 11:59 p.m., officers from Orillia OPP were dispatched to a traffic complaint where it was reported that individual had left an Orillia establishment impaired and drove away in a vehicle. Information led officers to respond to a separate establishment where the vehicle and individual in question were located. The resulting investigation led police to determine the individual was operating the vehicle while impaired by alcohol.

As a result, Bryce FITZROY, 25-years-old, from Washago has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On March 31, 2024, at about 2:30 a.m., officers from Rama Police Service were conducting a RIDE program in the area of Rama Rd in Rama. During the RIDE program a vehicle was checked by officers and the driver spoken to. As a result of this interaction the individual operating the vehicle was found to be impaired by alcohol and arrested shortly after.

As a result, Austin BARTON, 21-years-old, from Oro-Medonte has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – cocaine

On April 1, 2024, at about 10:36 p.m., officers from Orillia OPP were dispatched to a report of a vehicle that had gone into the water at the end of West St S in the City of Orillia. Simcoe County Paramedics and Orillia Fire also responded. The uninjured driver of the vehicle was brought shore by paramedics and firefighters. Officers commenced their investigation and determined the driver was impaired by alcohol. This individual was then arrested.

As a result, Cory WILKINSON, 36-years-old, from Orillia has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On April 2, 2024, at about 3:25 a.m., officers from Orillia OPP were dispatched to a report of an impaired individual occupying a vehicle at an address in the City of Orillia. Officers responded to find the vehicle had departed. As the investigation continued the vehicle and individual were located at a separate address a short time later. It was determined the individual operating the vehicle was impaired and was subsequently arrested.

As a result a 19-year-old female, from Orillia has been charged with:

·      Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs

On April 3, 2024, at about 2:26 a.m., an officer from the Orillia OPP was conducting proactive traffic enforcement in the area of Highway 11 in the City of Orillia. During this proactive activity the officer conducted a traffic stop. During the traffic stop the officer determined the driver of the vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

As a result, Shane STILLWELL, 29-years-old, from Ramara has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

All persons in these unrelated investigations are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in April 2024. As a result of these charges each of their driver’s licences has been suspended for 90 days, and their vehicles impounded for a period of 7 days.

Orillia OPP also posted a news release on March 29 2024 in which two persons were arrested and charge for impaired driving offences. In the span of 6 days 8 individuals have been arrested for a total of 15 criminal charges in Orillia OPP and Rama Police Service detachment areas. Impaired driving comes with significant penalties for those arrested and potentially even worse consequences for those behind the wheel and other motorists on our highways. If you are drinking, don’t drive. If you are consuming drugs, don’t drive. Plan ahead:

  • have a designated driver,
  • call a taxi or;
  • stay the night.

Sarah EMONS – Drunk Driving

(SOUTHWOLD, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County (St. Thomas) Detachment has charged an individual following a collision investigation.

On April 4, 2024, at approximately 7:55 a.m., members of the Elgin County OPP (St. Thomas Detachment) initiated a single-vehicle collision investigation near Argyle Street and Lanark Street, Township of Southwold.

It was determined that sometime overnight a passenger vehicle travelling on Argyle Street, left the roadway, and entered a nearby creek. The driver of the vehicle left the location at the time of the collision but returned to the scene the following morning, operating another vehicle, and spoke with police.

While speaking to the driver, the investigating officer observed signs of intoxication and a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test was administered, registering a failure. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Elgin County Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Sarah EMONS, a 45-year-old from Southwold was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on April 30, 2024.

No injuries were reported.

Douglas MERRITT – Drunk Driving

(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a local person with impaired driving in Bracebridge, ON.

On April 1, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. Bracebridge OPP officers were flagged down by a member of the public in a parking lot on Wellington Street near Monck Road in Bracebridge. The witness described their concerns about the driving and then later behaviour of the driver of a vehicle in the parking lot.

Officers located the driver and subsequently arrested and charged 21-year-old Douglas MERRITT of Huntsville, ON with Impaired Operation by Drug CC 320.14(1)(a). He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on April 30, 2024 to answer to his charge.

Information from concerned and attentive members of the public is key in efforts to take impaired drivers off the road and create safer driving conditions for everyone. The consequences for impaired driving in the province of Ontario, beyond the criminal charge, includes a 90 day drivers license suspension and a 7 day vehicle impound.

OPP Detachment Gets 5 Drunk Drivers – Names Released #QuotaPassed

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged five different motorists with alcohol related offences between March 27and March 30, 2024.

On March 27, 2024, Caledon OPP officers were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot check near Highway 410 and Valleywood Boulevard, in the Town of Caledon. Just after 11:00 p.m., a vehicle entered the area and officers subsequently formed grounds that driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were arrested.

As a result, Harsis TIWANA, 32, of Mississauga, was charged with:

·        Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing, to answer to the charges.

On March 28, 2024, shortly after 10:30 p.m., officers located a two-vehicle collision on Highway 10, near The Grange Sideroad, in the Town of Caledon. No injuries were reported. During the course of the investigation, officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Karl TUBERA, 25, of Mississauga, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero

On March 29, 2024, just before 3:00 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop while patrolling the area of Charleston Sideroad and Airport Road, in the Town of Caledon. Officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Koree WAIT, 32, of Milton, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available

On March 29, 2024, just before 7:00 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop while patrolling the area of Mayfield Road and Chinguacousy Road, in the Town of Caledon. Officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Aleena ARSHAD, 34, of Brampton, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero

On March 30, 2024, just before 3:00 a.m., Caledon OPP received a report from a motorist expressing concern as to how a motor vehicle was being operated. Officers located the vehicle on Airport Road, near Old School Road, in the Town of Caledon. Officers formed grounds that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Andre BROWN, 29, of Hamilton, was charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Four of the five drivers have been scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 18, 2024, to answer to their charges. Additionally, all five drivers had their vehicles impounded for a period of seven days, and their driver’s licence suspended for a period of 90 days.

The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education. Drivers continue to take chances. It’s simply not worth the risk. Motorists are reminded that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.

Naveen JACOB Arrested – Details Released

(MARKSTAY-WARREN, ON) – One person was arrested and charged for impaired driving after police responded to a two-vehicle collision.

On March 31, 2024, shortly after 9:00 p.m., Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17, Markstay-Warren.

One driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported by ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Naveen JACOB, 34 years-of-age, from Sherbrooke, Quebec, was charged with, operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and dangerous operation.

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 1, 2024, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Dante ABOTOSSAWAY – Drunk Driving, Cocaine

(M’CHIGEENG FIRST NATION, ON) – One driver has been arrested and charged for impaired driving following a traffic complaint. 

On April 2, 2024, shortly after 10:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 540. Police patrolled the area and located the motor vehicle on Mnaawnkwad Drive in M’Chigeeng First Nation.

Police conducted a traffic stop and upon speaking with the driver, determined the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Dante ABOTOSSAWAY, 24-years-old from Little Current has been charged with:

  • Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Class G1 licence holder – accompanying driver B.A.C. .05 or above
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on May 21, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

James HAMMER – Drunk Driving

(NORTHEASTERN MANITOULIN AND THE ISLANDS, ON) – Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for erratic driving, which resulted in the arrest of the driver.

On March 31, 2024, shortly after 4:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting general patrol on Water Street in Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands. Police observed a motor vehicle driving in an erratic manner and conducted a traffic stop. 

Upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine the driver had consumed alcohol beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, James HAMMER, 36-years-old, from New Liskeard has been charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on April 16, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

2 Sent To Hospital Following Collision – One Arrested

(SOUTHWOLD, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County (St. Thomas) Detachment has charged an individual following a collision investigation.

On Aprill 3, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m., emergency services including members of the Elgin County OPP (St. Thomas Detachment) responded to a rear-end collision involving two passenger vehicles on Sunset Road near Talbotville Gore Road, Township of Southwold.

The investigating officer observed signs of impairment from the driver of the vehicle which collided with the rearend of the other vehicle. This individual was taken into custody without incident.

Both involved drivers were transported to a local hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Steven HEWITT, a 47-year-old from Iona was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on April 30, 2024.

(DUFFERIN COUNTY) – The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged four drivers with impaired operation related offences over the easter weekend.

On March 28, 2024, just after 1:00 p.m., officers from the Dufferin OPP were dispatched to attend a motor vehicle collision in the area of HWY 10 and Broadway in the Town of Orangeville. Officers located the vehicle and driver a short time later and were quickly led into an impaired operation investigation. 

Richardo MARTINEZ, a 24-year-old male, from Toronto has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

•      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

•      Failure to stop after accident

On March 29, 2024, just before 1:00 p.m., officers from the Dufferin OPP were conducting seatbelt enforcement in the area of HWY 89 and HWY 10 in the Town of Mono. Officers noticed a traffic violation and were quickly led into an impaired operation investigation. 

Graham REDSHAW, a 28-year-old male, from Oakville has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

On March 30, 2024, just after 7:00 p.m., officers from the Dufferin OPP were conducting mobile patrol when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on CTY RD 11 in the Township of Amaranth. Officers located the vehicle and driver a short time later after they had fled the scene and were quickly led into an impaired operation investigation. 

Shane FIZZARD, a 38-year-old male, from Grand Valley has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

•      Flight from peace officer

•      Dangerous operation

•      Traffick in Schedule I substance- Cocaine

•      Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed

•      Fail to remain

•      Speeding 50+ Km/h over posted limit

•      Red light – fail to stop

On March 31, 2024, just before 2:30 a.m., officers from the Dufferin OPP were conducting mobile patrol when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on HWY 89 in the Township of Melancthon. Officers conducted a traffic stop and were quickly led into an impaired operation investigation. 

Adam MANGAL, a 38-year-old male, from Niagara Falls has been charged with:

•      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

•      Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville to answer to the charges. Their driver’s licence was suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.

Suspended Drunk Driver Arrested

(ASSIGINACK, ON) – The Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Assiginack Township, which led to the arrest of the driver.

On March 28, 2024, shortly after 11:00 p.m., the Manitoulin OPP was conducting general patrol on Highway 6 in Assiginack Township. Police conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

Upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine that the driver had a suspended licence and had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Patrick SHEAN, 40-years-old, from Little Current has been charged with:

  • Driving while under suspension – two counts
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Fail to surrender insurance card
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on May 7, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
