Drunk Driver Takes Off From Police

(WEST PERTH, ON) – A resident of Mitchell is facing five criminal charges following an incident that took place in the Municipality of West Perth.   

On September 6, 2022, just after 6:30 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received reports of a possible Impaired Driver on Line 36 in West Perth.

An officer observed the vehicle travelling on Line 36 and proceeded to stop the motor vehicle when the vehicle fled. The officer was later flagged down by a resident on Cobourg Street West, reporting that the accused was at their residence.

During the investigation, it was apparent the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to a local operations centre for further testing.

As a result, Kyle FENWICK, 42, of Mitchell, has been charged with:

–      Flight from peace officer

–      Dangerous operation

–      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

–      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while Prohibited under the Criminal Code

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Michael BELL Arrested For Impaired Driving

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On September 3, 2022, at approximately 11:43 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped and investigated a motor vehicle that was speeding on Perth Line 88 in the Municipality of North Perth.

Upon speaking with a driver, the officer had reason to believe the driver was impaired by a drug. The driver was arrested and transported to a local operations centre for a Drug Recognition Evaluation.   

As a result, Michael BELL, 42, of Fordwich, has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Another Assault In Listowel

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On September 1, 2022, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an occurrence that took place at a Barber Avenue North residence in Listowel.

During the investigation, it was determined that one person assaulted the other. No injuries were reported.

As a result, a 34-year-old of North Perth, has been charged with:

–      Assault

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Life Threatening Injuries – Daniel PATON Arrested

 (RIPLEY, ON) – The South Bruce Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a serious assault that was reported in the Village of Ripley.

On September 4, 2022, at 11:46 p.m., the South Bruce OPP received a report of a serious assault at a residence along Jessie Street. Officers attended the scene with members of the Ripley-Huron Fire Department and Bruce County Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

A 57-year-old resident of Huron-Kinloss Township was transported to a London hospital where they are receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries.

Daniel PATON, 26-years-old of Huron-Kinloss Township has been charged with Aggravated Assault. The accused currently remains in custody.

The South Bruce OPP and the South Bruce OPP Crime Unit are continuing to investigate under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).

This is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.

Fatal Farm Incident

(GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – One person has died as a result of a farm-related incident.

On August 25, 2022, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an incident involving a farm tractor and a wagon at an address on 4th Concession B, Grey Highlands. The Grey Bruce OPP, the Flesherton Fire Service and the Grey Bruce Paramedic Services attended the scene.

Brian BETTS, 58-years-old of Grey Highlands was transported to a local hospital where they were later pronounced deceased. 

The Grey Bruce OPP are continuing to investigate the incident with the assistance of the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team. 

The Ministry of Labour was also notified.

Motorcycle Vs Truck Collision – One Airlifted

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – One person has been airlifted to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries as a result of a motor vehicle collision.  

On September 2, 2022, at approximately 5:50 p.m., the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle on Base Line, in the municipality of Central Huron. The Huron County OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and the Clinton Fire Department responded. 

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, and the driver of the motorcycle was transported by Air Ornge to a trauma centre with serious injuries. 

Base Line was closed in both directions between Summerhill Road and Dutch Line for several hours for the investigation

Stolen Good Recovered – DARROCH & KESSO Arrested

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges against two North Perth Residents after being stopped with stolen goods in their possession.

On August 28, 2022, just after 2:00 a.m., Perth OPP officers stopped two males on bicycles on Road 166 in the Municipality of North Perth. The one male was in possession of thick black wire with copper in the middle. Following some investigation police arrested the two suspects. A search incident to arrest revealed more rough-cut wires, Pliers, a hammer, and a hacksaw.

As a result of the investigation, Jeffery DARROCH, 43 and Gordon KESSO, 55, both residents of North Perth were charged with:

–      Possession Break in Instruments

–      Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000- in Canada

Both accused were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

James MERRITT Arrested Again

(KINCARDINE, ON) – The Grey Bruce Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) and the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made an arrest and recovered stolen property less than 13 hours after a break and enter was reported.

On August 30, 2022, at 7:14 a.m., The South Bruce OPP responded to a report of a break and enter to a local business on Queen Street in Kincardine.

Later in the afternoon, members from the Grey Bruce CSCU executed a search warrant at a property located on South Street in Kincardine. During the execution of the warrant, a quantity of property stolen from the break and enter was located and recovered.

At 7:32 p.m., the suspect in this matter was located in the downtown Kincardine core and they were placed under arrest.

The South Bruce OPP have charged James MERRITT, 27 years-of-age, from Kincardine with the following offences:

·        Break, enter a place – commit indictable offence

·        Failure to comply with undertaking

·        Theft over $5,000

·        Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 – in Canada

·        Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 – outside Canada

·        Fail to comply with probation order

The accused was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on August 31, 2022.

Fatal Collision

(ELDERSLIE TWP, ON) – One person has died after being involved in a motor vehicle collision that occurred along Bruce County Road 3, Elderslie Township, in June.

On June 15, 2022, at 10:54 p.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a collision involving two vehicles and livestock that were determined to be on the roadway at the time of the incident. The South Bruce OPP, Saugeen Shores Police Service and Bruce County Paramedic Services attended the scene.

One of the drivers was air lifted to a London area hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver, Sheldon MCKEE 37-years-old, of Saugeen Shores, was pronounced deceased on August 22, 2022.

The South Bruce OPP is continuing to investigate this collision with the assistance of the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME).

Fatal Collison – Name Of 19 Year Old Deceased Released

(PERTH EAST, ON) – One person has died after a collision in Perth East involving a cyclist and motor vehicle.

On August 26, 2022, just before 3:00 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County Paramedic Services, and the Perth East Fire Department responded to a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist on Line 34, in the Township of Perth East.

The cyclist was transported to a local hospital and then airlifted to a London area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The cyclist later died as a result of the injuries sustained in the collision.

The deceased cyclist has been identified as 19-year-old Reid ANDERSON of Perth East.

There are no charges expected in this incident.

Fatal Collision – 16 Year Old Deceased

(PALMERSTON, ON) – One person has died as a result of a motor vehicle collision that occurred in the town of Palmerston.  

On August 26, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Minto Road, Palmerston. The Wellington County OPP, Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services, and the Palmerston Fire Department attended the scene.

The driver, a 16-year-old from Harriston was pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the deceased is not being released at the request of the family.    

The Wellington County OPP are continuing the investigation with the assistance of the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME).

17 Year Old From ACW Charged In Death Of 18 Year Old From Goderich

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Following a recent fatal motor vehicle collision investigation conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team police have arrested and charged a 17-year-old driver. 

At approximately 11:50 p.m. on July 30, 2022, Huron County OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services and the Goderich Fire Department responded to a single motor vehicle collision located on Golf Course Road just west of Lucknow Line (Huron County #1).

Euan MUIR, 18 years of age from Goderich died because of injuries sustained in the crash. 

The driver, a 17-year-old youth from Central Huron, has been charged with Dangerous Operation Causing Death. The youth has been released from custody with an upcoming court date.

Search Warrant Executed In Meaford – 2 Arrested

(MEAFORD, ON) – On August 26, 2022, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), executed a search warrant on a property located in the Municipality of Meaford.

As a result of the investigation, the Grey Bruce OPP have arrested and charged Scott WEILER, 34 years-old, from the Municipality of Meaford with the following offences:

·        Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order (two counts)

·        Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (two counts)

The Grey Bruce OPP have also arrested and charged Anita COTURE, 45-years-old, from the Municipality of Meaford with the following offences:

·        Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (two counts)

A search of the property resulted in the recovery of stolen property and a quantity of ammunition.

Both accused individuals were released and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound at a later date.

27 Year Old Facing Drunk Driving Charge

(PERTH EAST, ON) – Another impaired driver was arrested in Perth County.

On August 25, 2022, just after 2:00 a.m. a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on general patrol was travelling on Line 56, in the Township of Perth East, when they conducted a traffic stop. During the investigation, the officer determined the driver was impaired. They were arrested and transported to a local operations centre for further testing.

Jakob HAID, 27, of Perth East, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Failure to comply with undertaking

–      Mischief- Domestic

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 30-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Don’t Send Pics Of Your Naughty Bits – Another Sextortion Case Reported

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On August 22, 2022, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of another “sextortion” scam. Sextortion is a form of extortion where a blackmailer uses the threat of publishing or sending intimate images or videos to contacts unless the victim meets their demands.

In this incident, the adult victim was communicating with an unknown person on a social media platform. The suspect sent the victim an intimate image and asked for one in return. The victim complied. The suspect then threatened to distribute the intimate images of the victim publicly if the victim did not send $500. The victim contacted police immediately, and no money was lost.

The Perth County OPP would like to remind residents to follow safe internet practices. Do not engage in conversations with strangers, and never share intimate images online.

If something similar should happen to you, immediately stop all communication with the person and do not comply with the threats. Contact police who can provide advice on the next steps to take. Also, take screenshots, and keep copies of the messages and information such as the username, social media account etc.
