Break & Enter – Copper Wire & Generator Stolen

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On August 23, 2022, just before 8:00 a.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a break, enter, and theft at a residence on Malcolm Crescent in the Municipality of North Perth.

Sometime between 7:00 p.m. on August 22, 2022, and 7:00 a.m. on August 23, 2022, unknown person(s) entered a new framed build and stole a generator and copper wires. There was also damage noted to some electrical wiring.

The public is asked to report suspicious activity immediately, and remember to lock doors to vehicles, houses, garages, and sheds. Do not leave keys with vehicles, including ATVs. Consider installing security features, such as increased lighting, cameras, or alarms.

Another Pedestrian Struck

(MEAFORD, ON) A pedestrian was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a motor vehicle.

On August 24, 2022, at approximately 7:26 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Meaford Fire Department, and Grey County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle in the area of Sideroad 4 and Foster Street in the Municipality of Meaford.

The pedestrian was transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The matter remains under investigation, and further updates will be provided as they become available.

35 Year Old Arrested

(MEAFORD, ON) An individual has been arrested and charged after a dispute in the Municipality of Meaford.

On August 20, 2022, at approximately 9:48 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a residence in the Municipality of Meaford for a report of a mischief

Officers arrived on scene and determined that a criminal offence had taken place. An individual was then located and placed under arrest.

Richard BLACHA, 35 years-of-age, from the Municipality of Meaford has been charged with the following offences:

·        Mischief

·        Resist Peace Officer

The accused was held pending a bail hearing where they were remanded into custody.

Arrest After Fiery Crash – Name Released

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A resident of Seaforth remains in custody on a pile of driving related charges following an investigation conducted by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) this past weekend.

On Friday, August 19, 2022 at approximately 10:40 p.m. Huron OPP officers responded to a collision that took place just east of Goderich on Highway 8. Upon arrival officers located a sedan that had caught fire after it collided with a shipping container parked off the highway. The driver was able to escape the fiery crash largely uninjured and he took off on foot. 

Officers also learned the driver of the sedan had veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle before it skidded off the roadway into the shipping container. Further, investigators learned that just minutes prior to this collision the driver caused another crash as the driver was attempting to pass another vehicle while travelling into Goderich.  

Officers quickly set up containment and began searching for the suspect driver. Shortly after Huron OPP officers located and arrested the accused. The accused was displaying signs of impairment so he was also arrested for Impaired Operation. He was later transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he subsequently provided two samples of breath to the Intoxilizer Technician. Both tests were found to be over the legal limit. 

Upon further investigation officers learned the driver was currently prohibited from driving, as well, he was failing to operate a motor vehicle with insurance.

Christopher FERGUSON, 32 years of age from Seaforth has been charged with: Dangerous Operation, Operation While Impaired, Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), Operation While Prohibited, Fail to Report Accident – two counts, Fail to Remain – two counts, Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle and Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance. 

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for today’s date at the Ontario Court of Justice -Goderich.

Vanastra Resident Arrested For Drunk Driving

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a resident of Vanastra with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus following a traffic stop that took place in Clinton earlier this month. 

On Sunday, August 14, 2022, at approximately 5:19 p.m. a Huron County OPP officer stopped a sedan that was travelling southbound on Albert Street to check on the licence status of the driver. Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer determined the driver was currently subject to a driver’s licence suspension. Additionally, the officer observed open alcohol in the vehicle and noted the driver had consumed some alcohol.

A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for further testing. Two samples of breath were supplied to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit. 

Michael PLETSCH, 31 years of age from Vanastra has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), Drive a Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Alcohol and Driving While Under Suspension.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for September 26, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Fatal Collision Update – Wayne FISCHER Deceased

(SOUTH BRUCE, ON) – One person has died as a result of a motor vehicle collision that occurred in the municipality of South Bruce.  

On August 16, 2022, at approximately 7:15 a.m., the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a collision involving a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and a motorcycle at the intersection of Concession Road 10 and Bruce Road 4. The South Bruce OPP, Bruce County Paramedic Services and South Bruce Fire attended the scene. 

The driver of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased. 

The deceased has been identified as Wayne FISCHER, 47-years-old, of Bluevale.

The South Bruce OPP are continuing to investigate with the assistance of the West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME).

Meaford Death Investigation

(MEAFORD, ON) – On August 14, 2022, at 1:58 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Meaford Fire Department, and Grey County Paramedic Services (PS), responded to a report of an individual who was in distress in the water just off Grant Avenue in the Municipality of Meaford.

The individual was removed from the water and pronounced deceased after life saving measures were unsuccessful. They have been identified as Dzenad ICAGIC, 51 years-of-age from Etobicoke.

The Grey Bruce OPP are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this death, it is considered nonsuspicious.

Citizen Arrested After Forcing Way Into Emergency Room

(GODERICH, ON) – A Huron County man remains in custody on over two dozen  charges following an incident that took place at the hospital in Goderich earlier this week. 

On Monday, August 22, 2022 at approximately 6:25 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to the hospital in Goderich after learning a suspect assaulted a security officer and screener and forced his way into the emergency department. The suspect then threatened harm to several staff members while carrying a weapon. 

The suspect vacated the premises prior to police arrival however police were able to identify the suspect and he was located shortly thereafter at his residence. Upon arrest the accused resisted and assaulted one of the arresting officers causing a minor injury to the officer.

David HELSDON, 63 years of age from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has been charged with:

  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Criminal Harassment – 2 counts
  • Uttering Threats – 7 counts
  • Assault – 2 counts
  • Assault with a Weapon – 5 counts
  • Assault a Peace Officer
  • Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon
  • Break & Enter Commit Indicatable Offence
  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose – 4 counts
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon – 2 counts

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for August 25, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Fatal Plane Crash

(PERTH EAST, ON) – On August 23, 2022, just after 9:00 a.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County EMS and Perth East Fire Department responded to a plane crash on Perth line 43 in the Township of Perth East.

A small double-engine airplane crashed into an open field just Northeast of the Stratford Municipal Airport.

The lone occupant of the plane was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating the cause of the crash. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Perth Line 43 was closed between Road 109 and Road 110 for the protection of emergency responders. It has since been re-opened to traffic.

BAILLIE Arrested

(WEST PERTH, ON) – Tips from the public assisted in locating an impaired driver, who was arrested in the Municipality of West Perth.

On August 19, 2022, just after 4:00 p.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a driver that departed a local business in Exeter heading towards Perth County. The driver was seen drinking alcohol in his vehicle while in the drive thru.

Officers later located the vehicle on Perth Road 180 in West Perth. The officer determined the driver was impaired. The driver was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further testing.

Darwin BAILLIE, 55, of Huron East, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Operation while impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Repeat Offender Arrested Again – Jeremy WELSH

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On August 12, 2022, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a theft of bicycle from a local business located on Wallace Avenue North in the Municipality of North Perth.  

It was reported that sometime on August 12, 2022, between 6:50 p.m. and 7:20 p.m., a male attended the store and removed the bicycle that was secured to a bike rack. The accused later returned the bicycle to the bike rack at the business. The bicycle was described as an Orange Hiland Mountain bike.

After reviewing video surveillance footage, officers identified the male.

On August 19, 2022, Jeremy WELSH, 24, of Listowel was located, arrested, and charged with:

–      Theft Under $5,000

–      Possession of Break in Instruments

–      Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Chatsworth Drowning Update – Name Of Deceased Released

(CHATSWORTH, ON) – On August 18, 2022, at 5:44 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatsworth Fire Department, and Grey County Paramedic Services (PS), responded to a report of a drowning in the Township of Chatsworth.

An individual was removed from the water and pronounced deceased after life saving measures were unsuccessful. They have been identified as 23-year-old Hellen NYABUTO from North York.

The incident remains under investigation, it is considered non-suspicious in nature.

26 Year Old Arrested

(WEST PERTH, ON) – On August 21, 2022, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted by a Good Samaritan reporting a motor vehicle collision. A male was observed laying under a vehicle with front end and driver’s side damage.

Officers arrived on scene and the driver was subsequently taken into custody with some resistance and transported to a local operations centre for further testing.

As a result, Kurtis TURNER, 26, of Kitchener, has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

–      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Resist Peace Officer

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

As a result, a 23-year-old of North Perth, has been charged with:

–      Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

–      Mischief Under $5,000

–      Fail to comply with Probation Order

The accused was arrested and held for Bail.

27 Year Old From Howick Arrested Again – Randi SHARPIN

(NORTH PERTH, ON) – On August 21, 2022, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a shoplifting incident after being called to a Mitchell Road South, North Perth address.

It was determined that a person attended the store and removed merchandise. Officers arrived on scene and subsequently took an individual into custody without incident.

As a result, Randi SHARPIN, 27, from Howick Township was charged with:

–      Theft Under $5000- SHOPLIFTING

–      Failure to comply with prohibition order

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.
